Chapter 6
Thanks for the reviews! Starting writing this one durning my observation period for my first Pfizer shot. Finished it under the blankets at 3 am waiting for the pain meds to kick in argh. Pandemics suck.
Bella couldn't breath. She couldn't stand. She couldn't sit either. So Bella sorta crouched awkwardly on the tacky maud colored carpet, clutching the phone so tightly it made a squeaking noise against her damp sweaty hand.
"Al..Alice," Bella whispered.
"Bella, breath, okay. I'm sorry to call you like this after all this time. It's an awful way to do this, but there just wasn't enough time to get to you in person. Bella, we are coming though. Please, please just wait in the motel for us. Your mother will make it through the weekend for sure, I can tell you that much now. I know you want to see her, Bella, but it is so so important that you wait for us. We will be there in 12 hours. I have ordered food to be delivered to your doorstep. Please trust me, Bella. Please wait for us," Alice begged.
Bella curled into herself more and shuddered. Robot mode was well and truly shattered now, even though she was trying desperately to stay detached from her emotions, it was a hopeless task when it came to the Cullens. Though the emotion that was taking root was a shock to Bella.
Rage. Red hot rage bubbles inside her veins at the sound of her former best friends voice.
"How dare you," Bella seethed down the line, ignoring the churning of her bowels.
"I know, Bella. You have every right to be mad at me. Be mad. It's ok. I'm mad at myself too. I've missed you, Bella. For every sleepless second of every day since we left, I've missed you."
"Don't. You don't have the right."
"I know, I know. Just, hear me out. We won't do anything you don't want us to. We would love to make amends and be back in your life for good, but that isn't why I'm calling you, Bella. I truly mean it when I say you can't leave that room right now. Bella you could already be contagious. You mom, she can't... she can't cope with Covid and her accident. She barely has a chance at survival now according to Carlisle. I can't tell you if she will survive this yet, but I know if you go to visit her right now she won't."
Bella finally sat down on the floor, hanging her head between her knees. The room was starting to spin a little.
"The airplane. Shit. I've caught it?" Bella asked her voice catching, "of course I have. You couldn't of called me before I got on THAT plane? Or, before my FATHER DIED ALONE in the hospital without a capable doctor like Carlisle. Why? Why now Alice? Why do you suddenly give a shit now?"
"Oh Bella there is so much to say. Please, please wait for us," Alice cried.
"Well who the fuck is us? Who all is coming, Alice?"
"Everyone," she replied firmly.
"Everyone?" Bella asked meekly.
"Yes."
"Well, then why is it you calling me?" Bella asked, unable to say Edwards name out loud but aware Alice would understand.
"Because, Bella this is the only way I foresaw any chance of you staying on the phone long enough or waiting for us to arrive. He's here, Bella. He's coming, but I swear to you, I will make him stay away from you entirely if that's what you want. You never have to see him again. The choice is yours as it always should of been," Alice stayed, talking over an outburst in the background that could only be Edward banging something apart again.
Bella's anger annoyingly dipped. She'd take any chance to see him again no matter how much it would hurt her in the end. When it came to Edward Cullen Bella had no self preservation. "I'll be here. Bring him," Bella sighed.
"We are on the way."
