The next chapter is up and ready to go! Please enjoy and review because I love reviews!
"Say it," he whispered and their eyes met.
"I'm afraid," she confessed and he stared at her.
She nodded.
"I'm just afraid," she breathed and he held her tighter to him.
The Next Morning…Odiha…
They had made it to Odiha and were servicing the plane. Annie had stood on the boat with Kiyomi and the kids. The rest of the squad would get on the plane and rush to get ahead of Eren. Things were going well, until a bullet flew by Greer's face.
"Take cover!" someone screamed and Levi grabbed Greer, pulling her behind the plane as another bullet rang out.
After a moment, things fell quiet and they all emerged to see Floch bleeding out on the ground. Greer watched as the squad surrounded him, but she didn't follow. Something else caught her attention. Something worse.
"No, no, no," she whispered seeing the plane leaking fuel. Hange's subordinate Onyan-Kopon rushed over to her panicked.
"Bullet must have hit the tank. Shit!" he cursed.
Then they heard it. A rumbling.
"We're out of time," Armin said, staring with the others as the Rumbling approached the dock.
Silence.
Silence.
Greer's mind was racing as she stared at the colossal titans approaching. She took a step forward, but a hand on her shoulder stopped her. She was surprised to see Reiner standing there.
"I'll go. I can hold them back while you patch up the plane," he said and Greer stared at him.
"We need you for the final fight with Eren. It can't be you," she whispered.
Silence.
Silence.
"Greer's right. So, I'll go!" Hange said grinning and all eyes widened.
Before anyone could say anything, she continued.
"Armin Alert, you are now the Commander of the Survey Corps. Lead well," she said and Armin stared at her in shock.
She chuckled.
"You'll do fine. You already have what it takes to do it. You never give up. And now you have the power to boss Levi around. Use that well!"
Silence.
Silence.
"Well…bye," she mused and turned right into Greer.
"There is no way I'm letting you—"
Hange hugged her tightly, stopping her from speaking.
"You don't get a say in this one. Sorry, Greer," she whispered and pulled back, staring at her.
"Don't make this harder. Just make sure you tell my story to the little one, okay? Make her remember me," she grinned and tears fell from Greer's eyes.
"Be serious, Hange."
"A wise old friend once said serious doesn't suit me," she smirked and Greer let a sob escape her throat.
Hange wiped her tears away.
"Here, give her this to remember me," Hange said, handing Greer her old goggles.
Greer shook her head.
"I'll go with you. Maybe if we b-both went at them; we could make it—"
"—you know that's not true."
Silence.
"I have to go, Greer. It's my time. Don't deny me my rest," she smiled and Greer went to stop her when Mikasa grabbed her arm.
Greer stared at the younger woman, but no words needed to be spoken. Hange gave Greer one last pat and headed off. Only to be confronted by Levi. Greer watched them exchange words and then Hange was off. Greer stepped forward, but Mikasa tugged her to the plane, and she reluctantly followed.
They boarded the plane and she sat down, refusing to watch her best friend die out the window. She watched the others break down crying and closed her eyes tightly. She felt a hand cover hers and opened her eyes to see Levi with his eyes also closed, holding her hand tightly within his.
Silence.
Silence.
"We need a plan," Jean said, after a beat, and Armin nodded, kneeling down.
He began to relay the next steps when they all felt as if a switch had been turned on in their minds. And suddenly they were no longer on the plane, but in the path with Eren and Ymir.
"Eren!" Mikasa and Armin called for him and they all ran over to him.
Except Greer.
She sat down right where she was and stared at the ground as they spoke to him. And then, after a few minutes, they were gone. Greer blinked and stood up quickly. Eren stared at her.
"Where did they go?" she demanded.
"I sent them back," he replied.
"Send me back now," she snapped and he shook his head.
"Not until we talk," he said and she sighed.
Silence.
Silence.
"Do you want me to make you forget?" he asked and their eyes met.
Silence.
He nodded.
"I can make you forget all of this. You can start over with a clean slate. I can do that for you," he said and she wiped at her eyes.
"I don't want that," she said and he rubbed his eyes.
"Then tell me how to help you. I never wanted to hurt you, Greer. I'm sorry about Hange. I—"
"—Eren, please."
Silence.
Silence.
Silence.
"Did you know I have a little girl?" she asked and his eyes widened.
"What?"
Greer nodded.
"When you left, I was pregnant. She's a cute kid, you'd like her. She has a lot of personality."
Silence.
"Why are you here, Greer?! You should be at home with her! Why would you come all this way?!" he snapped upset.
Silence.
Silence.
"For you. Because I promised I was with you," she said shrugging and his eyes widened.
Silence.
Silence.
Greer shook her head.
"But I can't stand with you anymore. You understand? I can't," she said and tears fell from her eyes.
"I wanted to, so badly. I really did. But I can't follow you anymore. This has to end and if you won't end it, then we will. And I need you to know that I don't want that. I didn't want any of this. I wish I could take you home and introduce you to my daughter. We should be at the beach right now. I should be scolding you for teaching her how to break rules and be loud! This wasn't supposed to happen, you idiot!" she yelled at him and he hugged her.
She tried to pull away, but his hug tightened and she cried hysterically into his shoulder. She felt his tears dampen her shirt and cried harder.
"Come back, Eren. Just come back! Please!" she yelled into his shoulder, finally returning the hug.
"We can fix this! We can, I promise, I'll protect you! I will! Just come home!"
Their grips were back breaking, but they didn't let each other go.
"Come home," she whispered and felt him kiss the side of her head.
"Goodbye Greer," he whispered.
Greer's eyes snapped open and the squad filled her vision. They were staring at her wide eyed. She blinked and wiped the tears from her cheeks, but more came.
Silence.
Silence.
"I thought maybe if I begged, he'd wake up and come home," she tried to muse, but it died on her lips.
Silence.
She buried her face in her hands and before Levi could do anything to comfort her, Mikasa walked up to her and hugged her tightly. Then Armin walked over, followed by Jean and Connie. Even Reiner stood close by, extending his hand and placing it on his former friend's shoulder. Levi watched his rag tag group of soldiers and smiled weakly.
Short, but sweet. Two more chapters left in this fic and I hope you enjoy every last minute! Please let me know your thoughts by reviewing!
