Covid moon chapter 9
Another quick chapter for move this story along! Thanks for all the comments. It's boiling hot here and my baby daughter is super grumpy about it so thus one was typed out while sitting in a paddling pool lol.
Alice laughed. Esme gasped. Jasper attempted to not let Bella's anger infect him. Bella Swan had certainly grown up.
Inside the motel, Bella and Edward remained locked in a silent stare as Bella's welcome message reverberated around everyone's mind. Bella sat pushed against the wall, her arms crosse over her chest as she refused to say another word until Edward explained himself. Edward remained crouched at the foot of the bed entirely unsure what to do or say.
Edward, say something you idiot, Alice screamed at him in her mind. Start with something simple like I'm sorry. I'm an idiot, it's not a soul I lack but a good damn brain.
"I'm sorry. I'm an idiot, Bella. I'm… so so sorry."
Bella rolled her eyes. "Yeah, sorry that you have found yourself having to deal with me again, I bet. You don't, you know. You don't have to be here. I'm a big girl Edward if I'm sick, I'm sick so what? Why does it matter to you?"
"Bella, how do you not understand this?" Edward asked, inching his way closer. "You are all that matters."
"Oh, I'm sorry Edward. I suppose my puny human brain just doesn't comprehend. You see, my young dumb mind says when someone leaves you in the middle of the woods unprotected from pissed off rampagy scorned vampires, heartbroken to the point of being self destructive, when someone leaves you with out a word for 8 years, 8 years! of sadness and human tragedy after human tragedy, when some one does that, then my brain says that you most certainly don't matter to that someone at all," Bella rambled "My brain asks why now? Why after all the times I've nearly died since you left and all the times I simply wished I would die do you care now?"
Bella was sweating and shaking by the time she stopped her rant to catch her breath.
Edward was somehow both heartbroken and proud. "Bella… everything you said was right. I left you."
Because you're a self-absorbed martyr who thinks he always knows what's best, Alice screamed at him from the parking lot.
"I left you , Bella not because I don't love you, but because I'm a self-absorbed martyr who thinks I always know what's best," Edward repeated.
Outside Emmett roared with laughter, which soon had Bella laughing too. It was a laugh that quickly turned uncontrollable and eventually evolved into full on sobbing. Bella's emotions were all over the place and impossible to contain at the moment. Edward desperately wanted to hold her, but he no longer pretended to know what was best, so he asked for Esme instead.
In a flash, Esme had a sobbing Bella cradled in her arms as four other vampires crowded around in the much too small motel room. At first Bella half-heartily pushed Esme away, mumbling about how she had left her too and how she had needed a mother close by so badly. Yet, when Esme tried to pull back as Bella requested, Bella clung to her harder.
There simply was no stopping the flood gates once they had been opened. It had been a good 5 years since Bella had allowed herself to cry about anything and now she could not stop. Snot and tears dripped all over Esme's shoulder as the others stood silently watching, Emmett blocking the door purposely in case Edward wanted to run.
You deserve to sit through this as you've caused it, he warned to Edward silently. Edward agreed though. As much as this hurt, nothing in that world apart from Bella herself would ever get him to walk away again.
Eventually, Bella's body ran out of tears and she fell asleep in Esme's arms. It wasn't long before Bella started talking in her sleep, asking for Edward by name.
You have to fix this son, Esme thought to Edward.
Edward nodded solemnly though he really had no idea how he could ever possibly make things right again. For now, all he could do was take Esme's place as hold Bella as she slept. The minute he had her in his arms, Bella's restless sleep stopped and she fell into a peaceful deep slumber. So deep that Bella didn't even wake as the Cullens moved her from her crappy motel room into a 5 star penthouse hotel. Bella was going to be shocked when she eventually woke up.
