Covid moon chapter 14
Life is busy as always but here's the next chapter of my imagination using Stephanie's characters thanks!!
It is 3,248 miles to drive from Orlando to Forks Washington. Most humans can make that drive in about 4 days by only stopping to eat and sleep. A speeding vampire that can read minds and spot a cop from miles away can do it in about 24 hours. The Cullens we're moving a lot slower then they normally could though. For this trip they rented an RV, which wasn't a particularly fast mode of transportation. It was slow and required more fuel stops, but it was a more suitable way to travel with a symptomatic Covid positive human.
The speed drove most of the Cullens in the RV nuts, but Bella had a self contained toilet, a bed, and food. And, Carlisle had space for medical supplies to help look after her on the long journey.
Not all of the Cullens went in the RV though. Rose, Emmett, and Esme went ahead to Forks to open up the house and make contact with the wolves. It wasn't a job Carlisle was happy about leaving to Esme, but as his wife, the tribe did recognise her as the person in the Cullens with second authority after him. Carlisle didn't want to be away from an ever-sickening Bella in case she quickly took a turn for the worse.
Bella was feeling like utter crap physically as was expected, but mentally she appeared to be way better than Jasper or Carlisle would of expected after all the loss she had suffered. Bella's mind was so well practiced at shielding herself from major trauma though. Or at least She was a pro at not broadcasting to the outside world what it was really feeling. And what she was really feeling was an overwhelming sense of guilt.
Guilt over not being sad enough about her mother.
Guilt over having caught Covid.
Guilt over what Alice went through and over making Edward feel suicidal. And guilt over the oddest feeling she kept finding deep within her congested chest, hope. Bella had the sparks of hope and excitement buried deep down within yet that very fact royal pissed her off. She was excited she may actually get to become a vampire and that Edward, however completely fucked up he is, may actually still love her as much as she loves him.
Jasper, Edward, and Bella had yet to have their sit down talk though. Bella had simply been too tired to face it. They were halfway through their drive home now, putting mile after mile between Bella and her mothers corpse. There sadly just wasn't enough time for a funeral. Instead Carlisle donated 10,000 dollars to Phils parents to help pay for the arrangements. Bella was ok with that. Charlie's funeral had been all on zoom and Bella probably wouldn't get a funeral at all. Times had changed.
The crew pulled in to a small gas station somewhere in rural Oklahoma just after 11 pm. Bella took the opportunity to use the bathroom onboard, not trusting clumsy self not to fall over and crack her head open if she tried to go while in motion. Edward, who had forced himself to remain either in the passenger or drivers seat in order to stay away from Bella was starting to reach his breaking point. He wanted to give her the space she requested. He wanted to wait until she asked for him to go to her. But he was starting to lose the will. Each time one of her coughs ripped through the cabin Edward would nearly break the steering wheel. It didn't help that Bella had made some sort of peace with Alice and the rest of his family. Edward was glad for her, but knowing that Bella now knew his plans for killing himself 8 years ago was a hard pill to swallow.
In the tiny RV bathroom, despite the stillness, Bella managed to slip and bump her head quite hard on the door frame. Edward could wait no more.
"Bella, Love are you ok?" Edward asked from outside the door.
"I'm… still alive, Edward," Bella whispered.
"Can.. can we talk?"
"About what? How you were willing to Jill yourself to prevent me from becoming a vampire? Don't worry, Edward I won't let them change me. If Covid is going to kill me I guess I'm going to die," Bella said through the door.
Edward tore the door off the hinges on accident. Bella didn't even flinch. She sat wedged between the toilet and the door looking almost as pale as a vampire already.
"Hi," Bella simply said.
"Hi. Your head looks sore," Edward sighed.
"It's all sore. Dying isn't nearly as glamorous as movies depict."
"You can't die, Bella I just got you back," Edward whispered, reaching down to ever so gently pick her up.
"Well I can't change either. Not if it's going to make you go all Romeo and Juliette again. What. Where. You. Thinking?" Bella growled.
"Bella, love thinking back then wasn't my strong suit. I was feeling things I had never felt before in over 100 years. Powerful emotions. The need to protect your soul far outweighed the need for my own life," Edward explained as he walked the two of them back towards the RV's master bedroom.
"And what have you for my soul now?" Bella wheezed.
"Now? Bella now I am resisting the urge to bite you this instant…"
"You want me to be one of you?" Bella stammered.
"I want you, Bella. If the choice of vampire Bella or…" Edward stopped unable to say the words.
"Dead Bella," Bella finished for him.
"Then I choose vampire. I choose life for you every time however it can come. Maybe I'm just being selfish but I choose you I want you forever, but this isn't my choice. I have at least learned that through all of this," Edward sighed.
"Then bite me Dracula," Bella smiled in between gasps of breath.
