I just wanted to say a quick thank you for the kind comments and take the chance to respond to them as I posted before checking before and apologize for initially missing them. To be honest I was not expecting any.
InfiniteCringeMaster: Always nice to see another Alpha Legion fan and I do think people underrate how great they can be in a crossover fanfic. I do plan to have his gear spread out across the world just so he does not have an easy time with what's ahead. Though because of that a few other things from the ship are likely to be around somewhere.
But now we shall move onwards to the story!
Emilia was not sure what to expect when the giant took off his helmet but it was not this. He looked a bit odd for what few giants she had seen. With his very smooth looking pale skin outlined with a strange tattoo of a many headed serpent covering most of the right side of his face. The lack of hair only seemed to his slightly furrowed black brows and piercing brown eyes. These same eyes narrowed at her ever so slightly after the prolonged silence.
"Is something wrong, don't tell me I managed to offend you with my face alone." He asked with a frown on his face but a small glint in his eye threw off the idea he was actually upset.
"N-no, what are you saying you dunderhead!" She exclaimed as her cheeks flushed red for a moment. "I just have never seen… marks like yours." She gestured over to the tattoo while avoiding his eyes.
"I would be surprised if you did, it is just a mark among brothers. Don't worry too much about it." He said as he let out a deep chuckle. "Now I recommend you go get your little Insignia back. It is what we got involved in this whole mess for."
As Emilia walked over to Felt Reinhardt gave Naris an appraising look. "I am surprised, your skill is impressive for someone who I have never heard of. Holding off the Bowel Hunter is no small feat."
Naris gave a small scoff. "Says the one who sent her packing so easily and without even drawing your own blade."
Reinhardt gave an apologetic smile. "Sadly this blade only allows me to wield it against worthy opponents and she was not one." He said as the two approached Emilia and Felt just in time for Reinhardt to see the gem glow.
After some quick questioning Reinhardt declared he would be taking Felt with him for the time being and left Emilia and Naris alone.
"With all that's going on I don't suppose you would mind accompanying me to the Mathers Manor Naris? At the moment Roswaal is my main supporter and to get a reward for you it would probably go through him anyways." Emilia said before she let out a soft yawn.
The mind of the Marine before he entered overdrive all at once. From what limited knowledge he had gained the current royals of the country had died and with that an election was being held. Unfortunately his source of information expired before he could find out their names. On the off chance that by supporter that this Abhuman was in fact one of the candidates with this Lord Mathers supporting her, having her favor just became a higher priority. After all, unification of this world was required to boost them up to space flight, maybe then they would be a world worthy of the Imperium. Or perhaps even better as a secret place for the Alpha Legion to resupply and rest, something had to be hiding this place from the wider galaxy to be missed for so long.
His mind made up, Naris gave a slight smirk. "But of course if that is what you would prefer. Forgive me I was not aware you were at such a high status Lady Emilia." He bowed his head ever so slightly with a small glint in the marines eye.
Once again flushing Emilia shook her head. "No just call me Emilia please, it is the least I can do. Now come this way please."
The two retired for the night at a nearby Inn Emilia had been resting. At her insistence Naris took a room as the one next to hers but remained awake. Sitting calmly close to the wall as he listened in for anything being amiss.
Though the night was long and lacking in any action the Alpha Legionnaire took the opportunity to go over the many things he still needed to overcome in this world. While the low gothic dialect allowed him easy communication with the locals the writing system appears to be different to what he was used to.
While supporting an Abhuman candidate would not have been his first choice she was easily manipulated and more than that only had two obstacles he needed to overcome to be her closest ally. Roswaal was a nobleman from what he gathered and was likely an important one to hold a position capable of helping someone ascend the throne. In all likelihood he would need to learn the goals of the man before determining if they could work together or if he would have to be disposed of. The Daemon Puck was of more concern. It appeared close to her and likely had been with her for a long time. The nature of the creature was hard to identify but if Naris was forced to pick he would suspect an agent of the Changer of Ways was at work. He would need to shut down the creature's schemes wherever they appeared and either make it reveal its nature or find a way to banish it. Patching up relations between Emilia and himself would be difficult if it was the later option but he had little choice.
After a long and quiet night the odd duo boarded the carriage that would take them to the Mather Mansion. Naris gave a curious look at the creature that would be pulling it. He had seen many creatures humanity had domesticated throughout the ages but the creature seemed very unassuming for the strength no doubt needed to draw the carriage.
"Sorry Sir Naris, I don't think there is enough room in the carriage to fit you.. do you mind sitting up front?" Emilia asked as she looked between the giant and the carriage that would undoubtedly not fit him through its door alone.
Naris gave a slight sigh as he stared at the carriage's rather small interior before giving the Abhuman a small nod before he tried to pull himself up the side. Though he shook the entire carriage with his climb the Alpha Legionnaire was pleasantly surprised that it actually held his weight. Either superior construction was at work or more likely the local sorcery.
The journey was not a particularly long one as the ground dragon as he learned the beast was called seemed to be enhanced with more sorcery while pulling the carriage.
After a few days passed they finally passed through the small village before the mansion. Naris eyed the locals critically as they seemed to not be in a state of discontent but neither overly joyful at the sight of their Lord's carriage. Though indifference was not the worst state for them to be in, he made sure to make a note of it.
As the carriage pulled up to the mansion as it was illuminated with the last light of the day, Naris found himself rather impressed by what limited places he had seen in the world. While still a place of lower technology than he was used to, the Mather Mansion was without a doubt a grand piece of architecture. Waiting near the entrance he could easily discern the two maids, twins by the look of them along with what could only be Lord Mather himself. The man's extensive make up and heteromorphic eyes made him catch eyes easily and while at first Naris would have suspected gene treatments to gain such eyes the suspicion of a follower of the changer or ways did not leave his mind.
As the carriage came to a halt Naris knew the part he would play. He got off the carriage as gently as possible so as not to rock it quite as much as the marine did initially before walking over to the carriage's door and opening it for Emilia.
With graceful steps the Abhuman walked out of the door with a refreshing smile on her face.
"It is good to see you again Raswaal." She said with a friendly tone. Naris was glad for his helmet as his brows furrowed at how well regarded this nobleman was.
"It is aaaaalways a pleasure to haaaave you here Emilia." Raswaal said with a smile in turn. His accent was strange even to the marine who had walked many worlds but truly nobility will try to make themselves ever more bizarre. The nobleman turned to regard the giant critically for a moment before speaking again.
"And whooo is this other gueeeest to my abode you have brought with youuuu?" He asked with a brow ever so slightly raised.
"This is Sir Naris, he helped retrieve my Insignia when it was stolen. I did promise a reward of some sort but we were trying to figure out something fitting. Do you mind letting him stay here for a bit while we sort this out Raswaal?" Emilia asked with a hopeful look in her eyes.
"Ah a wonderful gueeest to have then. Take aaas much time aaaas you need Sir Narrrrris." The clown like noble said. "I am sure you might juuuust find something worthwhile withiiiiin my Manor."
"Your offer is gracious and I accept." Narris replied as he inclined his head. The more Raswaal spoke the less he trusted the man. Letting him stay indefinitely as well as assuring him he would find something of worth only set him more on guard.
"In faaact I may know juuust the thing. Ram make ready the mooost recent addition to my sword collection fooor our guest later." Raswaal said as he gestured towards the mansion. "Now come you aaaaall have had such a loooong journey. Getting some rest seeeems to be important foooor the start of another graaaand day."
When Emilia let out a yawn and swiftly retired at the offer Raswaal glanced over at his maids. "Rem, do show our gueeeest to his roooom for the night."
With a swift nod Rem eyed the giant distrustfully. He smelled of the Witch of Envy, as if he had been bathed in it. "Right this way Sir Naris, Rem will bring you to your room if you would follow me." She said as politely as she could while guiding the giant through the mansion.
Naris followed after the maid at a calm pace. Content with the silence the two shared as it left him to his own thoughts. Truly Raswaal either underestimated him, or wanted him on his side was the obvious signs being given. Yet he could not shake the feeling that there was something more to the nobles planning. His line of thought was interrupted when the maid turned and bowed slightly.
"This will be your room for the night, Rem will come along in the morning to bring you to a bath before you join breakfast." She said in the same polite tone as before.
"Very well then my gratitude Rem." As he watched the retreating figure of the maid he listened intently and heard no one else. He had noticed no other staff other than the Maids throughout the entire mansion. Even if they had arrived so late in the evening it was an odd sight to see such a large place contain so little. Banishing such thoughts to be collected later he pulled the door to his room open.
There will sadly come some times where I can't post as frequently but I will do my best to get a reasonable number of chapters out. None the less I hope you all enjoyed the story thus far! Feel free to leave any comments or questions and I will try to get to them as fast as I can.
