Silence filled the halls of the Emperor's castle as it's guards escorted a small figure to the throne room

A small boy, with black curly hair, blue eyes, arms and legs cuffed and shackled, tattered clothes , pale white skin covered in dirt, a tail the same color as his skin that moved around restlessly and fangs visible even with his mouth closed

they entered the throne room silently, and the members of the coven kneeled to the emperor

The child twitched in fear at the sight of the emperor

The emperor was leaning his head unto his fist, he stood up after a few seconds and spoke

"Unshackle him and leave" he command calmly

The coven members who escorted the boy did as they were ordered

"Hello, Child" said Belos calmly

The boy didn't reply, he just shivered as he looked at the emperor silently as his forked tongue (snake tongue) went out and back into his mouth many many times in a short period

This infuriated the Emperor's aide, but before she could act, Belos raised his arm calmly, signaling her to stop

Then he approached the boy

"I apologize for the way we had to bring you in, you weren't exactly the easiest to find" said Belos calmly

Everytime Belos took a step forward, the boy took a step back, his tongue constantly going out and back into his mouth

"Don't be afraid, child, unlike the demon hunters who are after your life, I don't intend to hurt you" said Belos calmly, making the boy a bit less vigilant

Seeing that, Belos walked back and sat on his throne

"I want you to be part of the Emperor's coven" said Belos calmly "you can refuse of course, and the Emperor's coven won't follow you anymore, but if you accept, you won't have to live in fear of being hunted down"

Belos heard a whisper come from the boy

"Hm?"

"W-why...me?" Asked the boy in a low hoarse voice

"A very good question, child" said Belos a little more enthusiastically since the boy spoke "you, the child of a witch and a basilisk who fell in love, a creature that shouldn't exist, yet here we are"

Belos noticed the child tearing up at what he said

"My condolences" said Belos calmly "Willbert Elapid, your father, was a brilliant potion maker, putting even the potions coven head to shame"

The child's tears only grew more at the word of the emperor

"In his earlier days, he wanted nothing more than to join my coven, but in the end, it was only one spot and it was decided with a duel" said Belos calmly "he lost"

The boy's tears barely stopped

"But you, you can fulfill his dream" said Belos calmly "he'd be proud to know his son did what he couldn't"

The look on the boy's face was that of confusion, why go through all this trouble just for this?

"Why...why are you doing so much for me?" Asked the boy in a hoarse voice

"...It's the Titan's will, child" replied Belos calmly "and I can only agree, you've shown immense potential for your age during the time you eluded the grasp of my coven, your hiding and tracking skills, crafting potions, swimming in boiling water, an ability I don't recall basilisks having"

There was a short moment of silence before the boy spoke

"... My mom had me learn a lot of ways to hide from people" said the boy in a sad tone

Belos nodded and continued

"And lastly, your ability to absorb spells, and using them to cast magic despite not having any magic of your own." said Belos calmly "so, will you join my coven? You can refuse of course and go back to your old life, I hope you consider my offer, it would've made your parents proud"

The boy stood silently for a few seconds that felt like a few hours

"...Would... would it really?" Asked the boy, his forked tongue constantly going in and out of his mouth and his

"It's what they would've wanted" said Belos calmly

And after another few silent seconds, the boy spoke again

"...I...accept" said the boy his tongue no longer going in and out of his mouth

"Splendid, the titan will be pleased and I'm sure your parents would be too" said Belos before snapping his fingers making prepared clean clothes appear in the hands of the boy "now get yourself cleaned up, a coven member will show around, and be ready, tomorrow is going to be a long day"

The boy nodded and a coven member walked towards the boy and signaled for the boy to follow him

The boy did so, but before they could leave the throne room, Belos spoke

"Oh, and one last thing" said Belos signaling for the boy to come to him, after the boy stood right in front of the him, he whispered in a voice unheard by anyone but the boy "I haven't caught your name yet"
