Basil was running away, he didn't know what he was running away from, but he had get away, it was a monster in the darkness he couldn't make out
He saw fire in the distance , that meant people were there, DANGER was there
He changed directions quickly, but he noticed the fire was following him, he ran faster on all fours
Soon he saw a group of people in white in front of him and abruptly stopped in his tracks
how didn't he feel them?!
He changed directions immediately, but then he saw the ones who were the source of the fire, he knew them all too well
He stopped and tried to change directions again, but was met with the monster
He was surrounded, and they slowly got closer and closer
Basil's hands grew claws, then he swung them as he hard as he could
Then he woke up in a sitting position, shaking, panting and sweating, wearing the black tunic the emperor gave him
He looked around him and saw a claw mark on the wall, HIS claw mark
Then he saw the Emperor's aide on the ground, terrified half to death, part of her clothes that covered her mouth was ripped
"Y-you nearly killed m-me" said the aide in fear
Basil quickly calmed down knowing there's no danger, he took a deep breath and retracted his claws before replying
"Yes, because sneaking up on someone with a severe fear of people is a great idea" deadpanned Basil
"...Fair point" said the Emperor's aide pulling herself back together "Today we begin your training as a part of the coven, but your will be different from the training of other members because of your... circumstances" she said as she stared at the claw marks
Basil just nodded
"Follow me" said the aide calmly as she walked
Basil did so and followed her, and after a few seconds of silence, Basil spoke
"I haven't heard your name yet" said Basil calmly
"Kikimora" Replied Kikimora
"Kiki then?" Asked Basil tilting his head
"Very well" said Kiki calmly
Then Basil noticed some coven members moving a cauldron, a box of empty vials, and more tools used for crafting potions, Kiki noticed him staring at the items and spoke
"Those are for you, your skills in potion craft are one of the reasons it took us so long to catch you" said Kiki calmly "but we can't ccomplain since you're with us now"
During the next few moments of silence, Kiki noticed Basil's tongue going in and out of his mouth again
"If it's not too troubling, may I ask why you keep doing that with your tongue?" Asked Kiki curiously
"Oh..this, i can smell things using my tongue and another organ on the roof of my mouth, it's really accurate, so i use it as a second set of eyes" said Basil calmly, omitting many many things
"Hmm..I see, but I don't recall basilisks having such an ability" said Kiki curiously "that's also the case with your ability to swim in boiling water"
"I...come from..a line of weird basilisks" replied Basil frowning sadly "They knew they'd die out if they didn't adapt and change, so they did everything they could to survive away from the eyes of witches, the swimming, the tongue and the sharp claws are a part of that, they still ate magic, but they kept things more...under wraps, and ate other things to make up for it"
"I see" said Kiki nodding before noticing that they made it to their destination "we're here"
Then they entered room and saw that many stored weapons
"Due to your inability to use magic on your own, we ha_" said Kiki calmly before noticing that Basil was climbing the wall with his claws from before "what're you doing?"
"Grabbing a scythe" said Basil as he took a scythe the was hanging on the wall
"I haven't even finishe_" said Kiki but Basil cut her off
"If I decided to wait every time someone wanted to tell me something, I'd be dead" said Basil frowning as he spun the scythe around "and you'll say that I need a weapon to defend myself better since I don't have magic of my own"
"But...why a scythe?" Asked Kiki tiredly
"My...my dad used to teach me how to use one...he always said 'a scythe is a potion crafter's best friend' " said Basil in a sad tone " 'why? Because that one *hic* rare ingredient you need for that special potion is always *hic* just barely out of your arm's reach, b-but not out o-of a scythe's and yeah i-it's also a *hic* a cool looking weapon' "
Basil was on the verge of crying, some tears falling from his eyes down his cheeks, but before Kiki could say anything he stopped her
"It's fine...i-i'm fine" said Basil wiping his tears and taking deep breaths "let's just start already"
"Very well" said Kiki calmly "let's get going"

Years later and now Basil is 16
And now known as the black guard, his identity as Basil Elapid was erased, only known to the emperor, Kiki and his friend, the golden guard, anyone else only knew how he entered the coven
(His clothes are the same as the the golden guard but..well, black, everything is pitch black, the mask, the cloak, and even the tunic under the cloak, but the triangle on the front of thr cloak is the same color, and the mask instead of an obtuse angled "V" looking Vision slot, it's like it but a "Y" because he needs it for his tongue, also he has a side bag)
He was now the Emperor's...left hand man
Goldie always stands to the right of the emperor
And right now was one of the times he had to stand next to the emperor during a meeting
Lilith faced her sister at a convention recently, and lost
And now she kneeled in front of the emperor, and unnoticed to everyone, the black guard suddenly stopped using his tongue to smell
"I'm at your service, Emperor Belos" said Lilith calmly
"It seems you faced the owl lady at a convention recently" said Belos calmly
"Yes, but I couldn't... capture her"
"Yes, Kiki told me all about it, you let your temper get the best of you" said Belos calmly
"It's just that, I haven't seen her in so long, i_"
"It's understandable Lilith, but remember what I promised you" said Belos calmly "you have to bring the owl lady to me, understood?"
"I understand" said Lilith
Then, all of a sudden, a coven member ran into the throne room nervously
"Sire! A wild witch named Darkwood is building an army of beasts to fight the coven!...um...is this a bad time?"
All eyes focused on the coven member
"No" replied Belos calmly "continue"
"Uh, well, me and my group were ambushed by this guy, and he told us to tell you about him and where he'd like to duel you after he beat us up with his beasts, then he left"
"Emperor Belos, allow me to_" said Lilith but the Emperor cut her off
"No, you already have a different task at hand" said Belos before looking towards the black guard and nodding "this situation is all under control"
The Black guard nodded and left the throne room
And when he finally left the presence of Lilith, he began using his tongue to smell again
Then he opened his palm and a filled in black circle appeared, then out of that circle, he pulled his black scythe that had a blue gem on the top end and a black wing opposite the blade, like the Emperor and the golden guard's staffs
He sat on his scythe like it's a bench and flew using it towards Darkwood like a staff

"Hahahahahaha! You fool! You fell right into my trap!" Said Darkwood maniacally "I wanted the emperor but you'll do for now"
The Black guard was now surrounded by beasts from all corners
"Wow, A trap, I expected a birthday party" deadpanned Basil sarcastically
"How exactly did you expect that?" Asked Darkwood curiously
"*sigh* you must have a LOT of friends" deadpanned Basil sarcastically as he pulled a potion from his side bag
"No, i don't" said Darkwood in confusion
"I can see why" said Basil tiredly as he popped the vial open
Then out of the potion, a gas rose and enveloped the land they were standing in
The gas only affected the beasts, griffons and more began doing weird things, laying on their backs before they began to pedal, lightly ramming into trees
Darkwood quickly realized what was happening
"Oh...you were being sarcastic"
Basil hit him on the head with the scythe's bottom end, knocking him out
Basil called for the emperor's coven to clean up, knowing that the potion effects will wear out in a short time
He flew away back to the castle and into the room where the golden guard was
"Am i late Goldie?" Asked Basil raising a brow
"Blackie! Nope, right on time" said the golden guard who was wearing a normal shirt, pants and socks, not the usual guard outfit, he still wore the mask
"Still need to change" said Basil quickly taking off just his cloak and boots "good enough"
"Want a soda?" Asked Goldie extending a hand holding a soda to Basil
"Sure" said Basil tiredly as layed down belly first before sipping the soda
They watched a cartoon on a glass orb while eating cookies and drinking soda
They didn't take off the masks for some reason
