A/N Sorry it's been so long since I've updated. I know it's not as long or as interesting as the other chapters, but I've had a lot of writers block with this story and my unfinished stories list had grown longer stressing me and my classes just started yesterday. I promise the story will get better because there's a lot of excitement coming for our beloved characters. Till then please enjoy!
"You okay?" Eugene asks.
"I just want to stay like this forever. Why is the real world so scary? So confusing and- and disappointing?" I ask.
"Life isn't meant to be fair all the time like in stories. I mean, you were taken away from your family and that wasn't fair to you. My whole life after my mom died I thought my uncle was my father. I learned my father never wanted me or some older brother of mine. You know what I find fair though? I found you and we were able to live here together and one day we'll raise a family. For two people who lived unfair lives we get to live the rest of our lives pretty fair I'd think," Eugene tells me.
"What happened today wasn't fair," I pout.
"Life isn't meant to be fair all the time like in stories. Actually being locked in a tower for most your life is the most unfair thing that's ever happened to you. Zel, your dad only got mad you didn't listen because he cares about you. He's still learning who you are. He might not know who you are, but unlike my dad I bet he's thought about you everyday until you came home," Eugene tells me.
"He- I got the feeling he hates me," I tell him.
"No, he was just a little disappointed in what you did. The secret about your hair is still safe. As a matter of fact I don't think I know what really happened. Why it's back," he responds. I look into his soft chocolate brown eyes and he looks slightly hurt. I can understand why.
"I promised Cass I wouldn't tell. She's involved," I tell him looking away.
"What do you mean? Sunshine, we can't keep secrets like this. This morning I panicked when your mom came to the door, but this doesn't mean you should keep it a secret from everyone. What if it put you in danger?" Eugene asks sounding hurt.
"But I didn't! I promised Cassandra I wouldn't say anything. I'm not sure I should've even mentioned Cass being apart of it," I tell him. With that he leaves the subject alone. I feel a twinge of guilt coursing through me. I didn't like the idea of hurting his feelings by keeping secrets from him.
"Still want to stay like this forever?" Eugene finally asks.
"I'll tell you the secret before everyone else ever finds out. Whenever that is," I promise.
"I'm no longer concerned about the secret. You have your reasons and I respect that," Eugene answers. A knock at the door interrupts us.
"Princess Rapunzel? It's Cassandra, can you let me in?" the person on the other side of the door asks. I give Eugene one more kiss before getting up and answering the door. Cass slips into the room quickly and relocks the door.
"Remember what I told you yesterday? When- oh, he's still here," she begins.
"I didn't tell him, but he does deserve to know. He promised to be patient about this basically," I try to convince her.
"It just scares me my dad and I will be banished from the only place we've ever known. Gretchen was never as good of a friend as you've been so if I had to leave it'd kill me," Cass confesses.
"I may have met him three days before you, but I know he'd never do anything to cost you or your dad's jobs. To show you that, he should come to Old Corona with us to meet this friend of yours," I suggest.
"Fine! But this guy is just someone I know. I barely know him, but he's into science so he can help us figure out the secrets of your hair. I'd never take you to someone without reason after convincing you not to tell the love of your life," Cass explains.
"Thank you," I respond.
"I suggest you get ready then. You too Fitzherjerk," Cass announces before slipping back out. With that Eugene gets up and heads to the door.
"I won't let her leave without you," I promise.
"I know you'd never Sunshine," he says before kissing my head and exiting my room.
We listen to the others leave and stay close together for a couple minutes. It was nice.
