Last time in Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-VRAINS The Circuit Of Smiles, Yuya and Zuzu learned Zaizen's suspicions of them. However, after explaining the true reason for their unexpected rival, they've gained everyone's trust but feel Zaizen is still skeptical of them.

Meanwhile, Soulburner, a.k.a Theodore Hamilton, wanting to connect more with his new allies, challenges Ringmaster to a duel. Both duelists didn't hold anything back against one another. When Soulburner summoned his Pyro Phoenix, Ringmaster retaliated with his new Link Mobster, but Soulburner used Bye Bye Damage to end it in a draw? However, both duelists weren't upset that they didn't win, congratulated one another, and promised to duel again.

At Paradise City, in the Pendulum Dimension…

From the horizon of the glorious Maiami City, a bus was driving towards the city. Sitting in one of the passenger seats, a sixteen-to-seventeen-year-old boy with dark blue eyes and pitch-black hair was inside the bus. He wore a pair of glasses over his eyes (this is an act, as he can still see without them). A long-sleeved dark-brown shirt with a pocket near the left side of his chest and long, dark-brown pants and brown shoes.

Attention all passengers! We will be arriving shortly at Paradise City. I repeat we will be arriving shortly at Paradise City. All passengers heading for Paradise City, please prepare to disembark.

The announcement from the bus's intercom interrupted his train of thought.

"That's me, I guess."

The young man put on his backpack and waited patiently for the bus to stop. True enough, after a few minutes, the bus came to a halt, and passengers began heading towards the exit, with him following suit.

Waiting for them at the bus's door was a security officer who was verifying their identification. Overkill, in his opinion, but the city probably didn't want to take any chances after hearing what recently happened a few weeks ago.

When his turn came, he merely presented his ID card to the officer.

"Let's see here… Kurai Okabe, age 17, unaffiliated with any Duel School… What's your purpose for visiting Paradise City?"

"I have an old score to settle with someone."

Kurai responded, prompting the officer to look at him with some admiration in his eyes.

"In any case, everything seems to check out. Let me welcome you to Paradise City, and best of luck to whoever you're settling this so-called score with."

The man had such a pleasant attitude that Kurai couldn't help but let out an honest smile.

"Thank you very much for your support, but after all the training I've done, there's no way I'll lose again."

After that small exchange, Kurai left the station behind and began an aimless walk around the city. The cars roll on the streets. Kids were playing at some designated playgrounds. It was common, but that's. It is what made the town so special. Every building and billboard has so many advertisements for their Duel schools that run the entire town.

"Still true to its reputation, Paradise City is still one of the most highly advanced cities in the country," The boy said.

Paradise City's central roads gave off a sense of beauty and order one would be hard-pressed to find in other similar cities. The two rivers that crossed the city also contributed to this idyllic atmosphere.

A while later, Kurai found himself in front of the city's most distinguished landmark, a large tower that contained the headquarters of the Leo Corporation and the Leo Institute of Dueling, or LID for short, the most prestigious Duel School in the world. Since several students could be seen flocking outside at the moment, Kurai safely assumed that classes were over for the day.

"Guess it's time for me to my move and take back everything that was once mine," Kurai said as he walked towards the large building.

At Den City's Cafe Nom, in the Link Dimension…

Yuya walked out of the sealed room as he returned from LINK VRAINS after his duel with Soulburner. "Well, that was fun," Yuya said with a smile on his face.

"You can say that again." A voice said in agreement.

Yuya saw Zuzu seating down near one of the monitors, watching a video of his Duel against Soulburnerbefore she turned to look at him. "Welcome back, Yuya!'' Zuzu greeted him.

"Hey, Zuzu," he replied. "I take it that you saw the whole thing?"

"I did. And I must say that the duel was incredible!" Zuzu stated. "Both you weren't giving an inch against one another, and especially that last move Soulburner made where it caused it to end in a draw. I gotta say I didn't expect that."

"Me neither," Yuya admitted. "Nobody ever has been able to push me like that except Declan. But hopefully, I'll keep my promise to duel him again one day."

"Knowing you, Yuya, you will," Zuzu said, then he turned serious. "I heard Soulburner share about a haunting memory from his past, is that right?"

"He did," Yuya said. "The Lost Incident, he called it. Some scientists kidnapped him along with five other kids and performed harshed experiments on them."

"That sounds horrible," Zuzu noted. "Who you would do such a thing and why?"

"He didn't mention who or even why," Yuya answered. "Maybe we'll learn more about it someday, but for now, we have to focus on stopping the Arbiters and rescuing Declan's father."

"While you're right on the being our main focus, at the moment, we should be focusing on serving customers," Zuzu stated.

"Oh yeah. That's right. I almost forgot about that."

"Well, given that you just had a duel, why wouldn't you? Are you even up for it?"

"Just because I recently had a duel doesn't mean I'm exhausted enough to work."

"Alright then. Let's get ready to open."

"Right behind you."

Meanwhile, at an apartment in Den City…

The blue light surrounding Theodore's body disappeared as he logged out of Link VRAINS and exited his room. "That was one of the best duels I had in my life.'' He said with a smile on his face.

"I'm sure you did,'' A voice said in agreement.

Theodore saw Kiku in the kitchen, cooking breakfast and setting up the table before she turned to look at him. "Welcome back, Teddy!'' Kiku greeted as she got off the couch and gave a hug to Theodore, who hugged her back.

"Hey, Kiku. I'm surprised to see you up. I figured you still be in bed sleeping," Theodore replied to his friend, happy to see her face.

"I could say the same to you," Kiku stated. "I assume that your duel was fun?"

"It was more than fun. It was the best!" Theodore exclaimed.

"It was, huh? What about it was your favorite?

"Well, for starters. I learned that Ringmaster also knows how to Ritual Summon and Xyz Summon as well," He answered.

"Interesting. So Ringmaster knows all the summoning methods, including his famous Pendulum Summon," Kiku noted.

"Uh-huh. It felt like I was dueling Playmaker," Theodore stated. "I bet if he were still here, he definitely would want to duel Ringmaster."

"You still miss him, do you?" Kiku asked.

"Yes and no," he replied. "I understand his reasoning for leaving, but there are times I wished he still be here since I had fun being around him."

"I know you did, and I'm sure he felt the same about you."

"Thanks, Kiku. Now, how about we get started on devouring that delicious breakfast you cooked for us and enjoying our Sunday."

"Sure thing, Theo."

The two then sat at the table and started eating breakfast together.

Meanwhile, in LINK VRAINS, at the Hanoi Stronghold...

Faust, Dr. Genome, Baira, and Specter were looking at a video clip of Soulburner's and Ringmaster's duel. Suddenly, Varis materialized into the room.

"So, is this what you wanted to show me?" Varis asked.

"Yes, Master Varis," Specter replied as he and the other knights bowed.

"As you know, we've been tracking the network to find any traces of the Arbiters," Baira stated. "Around 30 minutes ago, we noticed Soulburner log into LINK VRAINS."

"We also saw him send a message to Ringmaster challenging him to a duel," Genome added.

"Right before Ringmaster arrived, we set up a Camera Drone to record the duel for you to view," Faust said.

"I must say, even though I knew Ringmaster was strong, in this duel, he has shown that he's stronger than we thought," Specter noted.

"How so?" Varis asked.

"Well, for starters, he's shown to know Ritual Summoning," Faust answered.

"Ritual summoning, huh?" Varis said, getting a little interested. While Ritual Summoning wasn't a summoning method that most duelists used anymore ever since the introduction of Extra Deck Monsters, there were still some Decks that specialized in them. "So Ringmaster knows five summoning methods?"

"Yes, Master." Genome answered. "I hate to say it, but his dueling skills may be on the same level as you and Playmaker.

"Was this necessary?" Baira asked rhetorically

"It was." Varis firmly stated. He turned to Baira. "Knowing that he's mastered all summoning methods just makes him even more interesting."

The Knights' faces widened in surprise. "It does?"

"Yes, Varis answered." As you know, every single duel I ever had with Playmaker, I managed to push him into a corner, but somehow he always found a way to make a comeback and attain victory."

"It's funny you should mention that because Ringmaster brought out a new Link Monster in his duel against Soulburner," Specter mentioned.

"He did?'

"Take a look at this."

Specter then changed the screen's image that showcased Ringmaster's new Link Monster, Decipher Paladin.

"Decipher Paladin?"

"He managed to bring it out on the last turn of the duel. Kinda similar to you and Playmaker's Storm Access Skill," Faust noted.

"Interesting. Looks like we should change our focus from the Arbiters to Ringmaster," Varis suggested.

"How come, Master Varis?" Baira asked.

"Three reasons why. One: Only a select few duelists use or have Cyberse cards so that we can narrow our search. Two: We're improving our search algorithms daily, if not hourly. And three: If all else fails, we'll just do what we did last time and lure him into LINK VRAINS."

"Quite observant, sir," Specter said, bowing low. "And I'd be happy to lead the search for Ringmaster and duel him. This time using my full strength."

"I don't think you're worthy of leading Specter." Genome countered. "Remember, you lost against Ringmaster."

"Not only that, but Ringmaster has acquired a new Link Monster who can negate card effects, which can be a real problem towards your Deck," Faust added.

"They're right," Varis said, getting everyone's attention. He looked at Specter. "Specter. While you are a good duelist, it's best to take precautions to keep things in order. Otherwise, my integrity as the leader of the Knights of Hanoi will be put into question. For now, you'll work with Faust, Baira, and Genome on tracking Ringmaster along with his associate Maestra and learn as much about them.

Specter's face turned into a confused look after hearing Varis. "Why Maestra?"

"Since she's an ally of Ringmaster and we have limited info on her, it's best to target her," Varis explained. "Also in her latest against Blue Maiden, she has shown to know Ritual and Xyz Summoning, so she maybe is also capable of knowing the other summoning methods just like Ringmaster. Plus, I have someone else in mind to take on Ringmaster.

"Who?"

"Why don't you come on out?"

A feminine figure was logging into the room wearing a jumpsuit with black legs and shoulders, a white chest, and grey arms and sides. She had black boots and gloves with gold tops and flared cuffs with gold stripes.

"Pandor?" Everyone said, surprised.

"Since Pandor can collect data on a duelist's skill faster than any AI, it'd be best for her to duel Maestra to test her strength as well," Varis said.

"But, Varis-," Specter said.

"Do I make myself clear?"

Specter was silent for a full minute as he was deep in thought. Finally, his face turned into one of resignation as he bowed and said, "Yes, Varis."

"I'm glad you understand," Varis replied.

Seeing that Specter was upset, Faust attempted to calm him down by walking towards him and placing a hand on his shoulder. "Do not be such a sourpuss," he said. "Think of it like this: If you fail along with me, Baira, and Genome, Master Varis will avenge us." Specters response was to smack his hand away from his shoulder.

"With that out of the way, I have new orders," Varis said, getting everyone's attention. "Faust, Genome. You will keep a lookout on the Arbiters to make sure they don't get to Ringmaster and Maestra first before us. Baira. Ensure that keep track of every log-in entry and evidence made and left by the entire Top 10. And if you see an opportunity involving Ringmaster and Maestra, alert me immediately."

"Yes, Master Varis!" The three Knights replied as they bowed to their leader. The three of them then logged out of the Hanoi Stronghold.

"Specter." Varis also said, getting his attention once again. "I understand that you don't like my decision. But it's for the best."

"Yes, Master Varis," Specter said as he then logged out, with Varis and Pandor following behind him.

Hours later…

"I still don't understand why you have to blindfold me and Jin just for going to lunch," Kolter said.

"I agree with Kolter, Yuji, and Ena," Jin added. "What's the point of all this?"

"We explained this to you five minutes ago," Yuji said as he was driving a medical van that belonged to Jin, who used it to help drive people to the hospital.

"The place we're going to is a surprise, which you'll see once we've arrived," Ena stated.

A few minutes later…

The four finally reached their destination.

"Alright, boys, you can take your blindfolds off," Ena said.

The brothers then took off their blindfolds as they noticed a building with the sign "McBurgertown" on it. As they approached the building, smiles formed on their faces.

"No way! McBurgertown!" Kolter exclaimed.

"This was our favorite restaurant growing up," Jin added. "How did you guys know about it?"

"We remember Kolter talking about it one shift, and luckily for us, I remembered it," Yuji answered.

"Well, I'm glad you did," Kolter said. "Let's head in and start filling up our stomachs!"

The four entered the building and noticed This woman had blonde, straight, waist-length hair with bangs. She wore blue denim jeans, a bright red shirt with an apron, purpler skates, and pink glasses. The woman approached the four as she grabbed a pen and paper from her apron pocket.

"Hello! My name is Tori Jones, and I'll be your server for today! How can I help you?"

"We'd made a reservation the other day," Ena said. "Name should be under Kolter."

The woman pulled out her tablet to look for the reservation.

"Ah yes. Reservation for Kolter is listed here. I assume table for 4?"

"Make it five."

The five of them turned around to see Skye Zaizen with Orion.

"Hey, Skye! Nice to see you,"

"You too, Ena," Skye replied. "Nice to see you too, Yuji.

"Likewise," Yuji replied. "What are you doing with Orion? Before I left my apartment, Mrs. Linetti, my neighbor, was called in for an emergency meeting and asked me to watch Orion until she got back."

"You just can't say no to that dog, can you?" Ena asked.

"Of course not," Skye answered. "So, what are you guys doing here?"

"They're here for me and my brother's return from our vacation by treating us to lunch," Kolter answered as he and Jin approached the three teens.

"Oh hey, Kolter! It's nice to see you. You too, Jin."

"You too, Skye," Jin replied. "Hate to break it to you, but I'm not sure if Orion is allowed in here."

"It's no problem. We have picnic tables outside, so if you'd like, we can have you guys eat out there, and we can bring a plate for your friend," Tori noted.

"That sounds great!" Thank you," Skye replied.

"You're welcome," Tori said before she took a look at Skye. "Wait a minute. You're Skye Zaizen, right?"

"Yes," Skye confirmed. "How do you know my name, though?"

"Your brother used to stop by to pick up burgers for board meetings," Tori replied. "Tell you what: just for you, and I'll put in a to-go order with Zaizen's favorite meal for you to take home to surprise him with. Sound good with you?"

"That would be very nice. Thank you." Skye said with a slight bow.

After the brief conversation, Skye and Ena ordered a Mega A Meal, Yuji ordered a Mega B Meal, and Kolter and Jin ordered a Mega C Meal. Once they paid for their orders, they headed outside with their server Tori and sat them at one of the picnic tables to eat before heading back inside work on their orders.

"You guys want to play with Orion while we wait for our food?" Skye asked everyone.

"Of course we do," Ena said, kneeling with Yuji and Jin. "Come here, Orion." Immediately, Orion headed towards the three teens, happy for them. They ended up giving him belly-rubs, which he liked very much.

"So, do you have any other plans for today?" Jin asked.

"No. Not really," Skye answered.

"I know. How you join us on our trip to the shelter?" Yuji asked. "It's only a te minute drive."

"Shelter?"

"Yuji! That was supposed to be kept secret!" Ena exclaimed.

"Oh right. Sorry."

"What's the big deal about a shelter?" Skye asked.

"Well, since Yuji ruined it, I'll tell you," Ena said. "After lunch, we were going to volunteer at the shelter Jin stayed at when he was a kid to get help after he was saved from the Lost Incident."

"The day after we worked our first shift, we noticed this Shelter on our way home, and the workers asked if we could help out since they were short on staff members," Yuji explained. We help down there in our free time so that kids who went through tragic events get back to the way they were," Yuji added.

"Well, that's very nice of you two to do. Wasn't it, Jin?"

Jin was silent for a minute before responding. "Thanks for the kind gesture. But I think we should do something else instead."

"How come?" Yuji asked.

"I just don't want to relive any bad memories," Jin explained. "It was hard for me to interact with other kids and adjust to normal life, and I don't want those memories coming back to haunt me."

" I think we should go, Jin," Kolter said as he approached the group.

"But Kolter-"

"No buts, Jin! Look, I understand that it is hard for you to return to your normal self. I did everything I could to make your recovery speed up faster. But thanks to a little miracle, you got better, and we went back to being good old brothers. So I think it's best if we go and help out at the shelter."

Jin was once again silent before answering Kolter. "Okay, big bro. We'll go and help out."

"Glad to hear it, little bro."

After a few minutes, Tori arrived and brought a tray with the burger and fries ordered earlier.

"Here you go, Miss Zaizen and Miss Yamashiro," Roxy said. "Two Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburgers with a side of fries. For you, Mr. Sugimuto, one Deluxe Chicken Sandwich with a large Coke and fries. And for you, Kolter and Jin, two orders of a plate of spaghetti with little pieces of hot dogs chopped up with fries and two large Sprites.

"Thank you very much, Ms. Jones."

Tori couldn't help but smile. "Please, call me Tori." Turning to Skye, she said, "I'll put in your brother's order for you to take home once you've finished eating."

As she started walking away, Yuji said before starting to eat his meal, "Hey Skye. I think you should bring Orion along with us so he can play with the kids.

"That's a great idea, Yuji!" Ena said. "I'm sure the kids would love that, as well as Orion.

"I'm sure he will, too," Skye said as she took another bite into her burger.

The gang continued eating their lunch, and right after they finished, they heard Tori's voice calling out.

"Hey, Skye, Your brother's order is all good to go!" Tori said while holding the bag of food. "I'm packed some extra fries in there for him as a little gift!"

"Coming!" Ske said as she got up from her seat. "Got what I need, and I'm all ready to go!"

"Us too, everyone said, as they entered Jin's van and left the restaurant."

"How about we invite Yuya and Zuzu?" Ena suggested.

"Good idea, Ena," Yuji said. "Knowing them, they'll say yes."

Yuji sent the text to the two immediately.

Elsewhere…

Yuya and Zuzu were happily greeting and serving customers by taking their orders and handing them food, as they showcased good manners with a smile.

"Thank you come again," Zuzu said.

"And have a nice day," Yuya added before noticing his phone going off before taking it out. "Looks like I got a text from Yuji."

"Really?" Zuzu asked. "What does it say?"

"It says here that they're going to a shelter that Jin you used to go to when he was younger to volunteer and asked us if he wanted to come and help," Yuya replied. "According to this map here, it's about fifteen minutes away from where we are. You up for it?

"Sounds like fun," Zuzu replied. "Let's clean up so we can head out."

"Yeah."

The two teens proceeded to clean up and locked up the truck as they headed towards the shelter.

Ten minutes later...

The drive to the Den City Shelter ended up just like what Yuji said: ten minutes. Except for Orion, everyone was silent for the drive there. After Kolter found a parking spot, the group walked to the Den City Shelter, where upon arrival, they found children playing near the entrance. One of the kids, a small boy, widened his eyes in realization upon seeing Yuji approach the building.

Turning to the other kids, he said, "Look, everyone! Yuji and Ena are here!" Immediately, there were shouts of "Yuji and Ena!" from the other kids as they headed towards him.

"We haven't seen you guys in a while!" Yuji said as the children gathered around him. "And guess what? We brought all of you a puppy!" Ena gestured to Orion to go forward and meet the children. Nervous, the cub took a few steps towards them, who greeted him with love.

"He's so cute!"

"I love him!"

"He's the best!"

It was said by many of the kids as they played with Orion. Skye couldn't help but chuckle at the kids welcoming the cub as one of their own and playing with him. She remembered how she welcomed Akira as a little kid. Skye would greet Akira with a smile, causing Akira to chuckle as he pats her head.

"Yo! Think fast!" a voice said as a basketball came out of nowhere towards Yuji. Before Skye could warn him, he turned to where the basketball was coming from and grabbed it with his left hand. Yuji then dribbled it in front of him a few times before the ball went through his legs and to his right arm and back.

"Kyle Samson," Yuji said, calling out to him. "I told you. You gotta think fast to be fast if you want to catch me by surprise." Kyle, a tan-skinned 14-year boy, appeared in his sight as he received the basketball back. He wore a black hoodie with a blue shirt underneath along with jeans. He also had average-length brown hair with thick eyebrows as well.

"I know, man. But I seriously thought I'd get you this time." Kyle said as he pulled Yuji in for a hug. "How've you been, man? It's been a while since we last saw each other."

"Everything's good these days," Yuji replied as he pulled away from the bro hug. "And you're right. It has been a while."

"Obviously. We've so much to catch up on!" Kyle said before noticing Ena. "Oh. Didn't notice you here, Ena. How's it going?"

"I'm doing good, Kyle," Ena replied. "Would you like to meet everyone else?"

"Sure."

Ena and Kyle walked over to the rest of the group as they introduced themselves.

"I'm Skye Zaizen," Skye said, taking Kyle's hand and shaking it.

"I'm Kolter, and this is my brother Jin," Kolter said as he and Jin shook Kyle's hand.

"You know Yuji and Ena?" Jin asked.

"That's right!" Kyle confirmed. "I've known Yuji and Ena for a few years now." Turning to Yuji, he said, "Man. Do you know how long it's been since you last came?"

"Dunno. A few months?" Yuji replied

"Well!" Miles crossed his arms as though he were offended. "Dude, it's not just the kids who missed you, but everyone here as well."

"Miles is right, you know," a new voice said. "You shouldn't string children along who look up to you, Yuji."

Everyone turned to the voice source and saw Yuya and Zuzu walking out of the entrance to the shelter and towards the group.

"Hey, you guys! Glad you two could make it." Ena said.

"I know, Ena," Yuya said back.

"If we've gotten busy serving another customer, we might've never seen that text from you," Zuzu added.

The moment, however, was interrupted by an "Ahem!" from Miles. Yuya and Zuzu, who heard it, couldn't help but smile as they walked towards him.

"Sorry, we didn't mean to interrupt your conversation with Yuji and Ena," Yuya apologized as he held out his hand. "My name is Yuya, and this her is Zuzu. We're friends of Yuji and Ena."

"Samson. I'm Kyle Samson," Kyle said as he held his hand out and shook Yuya and Zuzu's.

"Nice to see all the helpers here." Everyone turned around to see a woman walking out of the entrance to the shelter and towards the group. The man wore a light-yellow and green dress shirt with a blue skirt. She also had middle-length red hair tied into a ponytail, along with pink hairclip and scrunchie. Her brown eyes surveyed the area until she found Yuji and Ena.

"You didn't think we'd come empty-handed, did you?" Yuji asked.

"We promised to bring volunteers, and we delivered," Ena added.

"I can see that," the woman said. "My name is Kierra Maxwell, and I'm in charge of this place. It's quite rare to have this many guests here, especially," she gestured towards the group, "I know Yuji and Ena, along with Jin. But who are you three?"

"I'm Skye Zaien," Skye answered.

"Zaizen? So you're related to the CEO of SOLTechnilogies, Akira Zaizen?" Kierra asked.

"Yes."

"Glad you could be here." And who are the two of you?"

"I'm Yuya," Yuya answered.

"And I'm Zuzu," Zuzu answered as well.

"Well, introduction out of the way, why don't we all go inside now?" Kierra gestured everyone to head inside the shelter.

"This way, everyone," Yuji said, with everyone nodding in response as they followed him inside.

"Today is Soul Food Sunday, so Kolter, do you mind cooking for the residents, correct?" Kierra asked Kolter.

"Don't worry, Kierra. I don't mind." Kolter responded.

"Good. I know you mostly cook with meat, so I bought some variety products for any of the senior residents that don't like it."

"I can help with that," Jin stated. "I make a lot of vegan meals for the patients down at the hospital so that I can handle that.

"Perfect," Kierra said before turning to Yuji, Ena, and Skye. "Yuji and Ena, could help Kolter with the meat, while Skye helps Jin with the vegetables?"

"Leave it to us!" The three teens said as they and the entire group entered the kitchen.

"So, Yuya and Zuzu," Kierra said as she turned to the two teens. "What do you plan on doing to help out?"

"Well, being a performer, I could do some magic tricks that my dad taught me for the children, and Zuzu could help me out," Yuya replied.

"That sounds like fun," she confirmed as she headed towards the fridge to grab the juices for the children. Pointing to the pantry, she added, "There are some cups in the pantry. I have my hands full at the moment, but could you give me a helping hand?"

"Of course." Yuya and Zuzu said as they grabbed the cups.

"So, how long have you been working here?" Zuzu asked.

"I've been working here ever since Jin was a little boy," she replied.

"A little boy, huh?" Zuzu said. "We heard from Kolter that Jin went through some tragic event that made it hard for him to connect with others, so were you the one who helped him get through it.

"Kind of," Kierra said as she grabbed a box of fruit from underneath the counter. "You mind helping me with this?"

Yuya and Zuzu help her carry the box over near the sink them over to a nearby sink. Afterward, the three of them started chopping up the fruits before cleaning them.

"Thanks, you two."

"No problem," Yuya said as he was chopping up the pineapple, he was cutting it into smaller pieces with a knife before cleaning them. "What was it you were saying earlier about Jin?"

Kierra thought for a minute before responding."Very well. Ten years ago, this event happened in none other than Den City. At the age of six, Jin was kidnapped by an unknown group of people and was tortured day and night, all for some science experiment." She spat out the last two words. "As a result of the event, he suffered aftereffects that he still experiences to this day."

As they listened to the story, Yuya and Zuzu slowly pieced the puzzle pieces together: kidnapped, by an unknown group of people, after effects, and tortured day and night? It made perfect sense…

"I was one of the social workers who helped get him and the other children out of that horrible place when it ended." Kierra continued. "When I brought him to the Den City Shelter, I hoped that interacting with the other kids would help lessen his burden, but I was wrong. Jin experienced no joy in the activities he participated in, suffered anxiety attacks, and experienced nightmares. I can't keep track of all the times I heard him screaming for dear life."

Zuzu was completely silent. Poor Jin, she thought. No wonder he mentioned he couldn't move on. From what he went through, the Lost Incident must have been that bad to scar him permanently.

"So, what happened afterwards?" Yuya asked.

"Well, as he got older, Jin was transferred to the local hospital where he continued getting the treatments he needed," she answered.

So it's true, Yuya thought. Jin was one of the people, along with Soulburner, to be a part of the Lost Incident.

"But for some reason, I knew I couldn't give up on him," Kierra said. "Even in the state Jin was in, I was determined to help him in any way I could. And I guess I partially succeeded in the end."

Both Yuya and Zuzu raised an eyebrow in hearing his last comment. "How?"

"With this," Kierra answered, pulling out Harpie Lady Sisters from her pocket. "I taught him how to play Duel Monsters, and as a result of the game, Jin was able to interact with the other kids there. While the anxiety attacks and nightmares were still around, he pretty much functioned as a normal kid."

"And then years later, he fixed his relationship with Kolter and returned to the way he was." Zuzu finished for Kierra.

"Correct. Kierra said as she left the kitchen while Yuya and Zuzu continued cutting up the fruits.

"Can't believe Jin was also involved in the Lost Incident with Soulburner," Yuya said.

"Wonder who the other four were?" Zuzu questioned.

"Who knows? But what I do is that it was nice that Kierra didn't give up on him. Whenever I wanted to give up something just because I thought it was hard, he always motivated me to keep trying."

"You know, hearing you say that makes me miss everyone back home," Zuzu said. "I wonder how they're doing?"

"I'm sure our friends are working their hardest to become stronger duelists, so when they arrive, they can help us stop the Arbiters and save Leo," Yuya replied as Zuzu nodded in response before they went back to chopping up the fruits.

Meanwhile, at the Leo Institue, in the Pendulum Dimension…

"Still no contact from Yuya and Zuzu?" Henrietta, holding baby Riley in her hands, addressed her son Declan standing next to her. He was looking out of the window, observing the city as something could happen at any moment.

"I'm afraid not. While we've received a bunch of data regarding the dimension from their Duel Disks, they haven't sent us anything regarding my father's whereabouts," Declan answered.

"Does that mean they have no leads on where he could be?"

"At the moment, no. But I believe Yuya and Zuzu will discover a major clue where it'll help provide us a lead."

Declan closed his eyes. It has been three weeks since Yuya and Zuzu departed to the Link Dimension, while the rest of the Lancers went to the other dimensions to train. First, he has lost his father. He hoped now he hadn't lost Yuya or Zuzu. Wherever they were and whatever they were doing, he only hoped for their safety and return.

Nakajima suddenly entered the room. "Mr. President, I've just received word from Moon Shadow that the Lancers have finished their training and are ready to return to depart for the Link Dimension."

Declan smiled before turning to Nakajima. "Thank you for informing me. Inform the Lancers that they can teleport back immediately and that I'm on my way to meet them."

Nakajima nodded and left the room. Henrietta resumed her conversation with Declan. "Looks like the Lancers are all set to help rescue your father."

"Indeed they are," Declan replied as he opened his desk drawer and grabbed his Duel Disk before placing it on his arm." So am I."

Declan proceeded towards the exit before receiving a call on his Duel Disk.

"What is it?"

"Sorry to bother you, Mr. President, but there's someone here who would like to see you," Nakajima said.

"Tell him that I have no time and that I'm busy."

"He said you say that and that he wanted me to tell you that his name is Kurai Okabe."

"Kurai Okabe, huh?" A smirk formed on Declan's face before replying. "Alright, set him up."

"Understood.

After a few minutes, the elevator to the top floor ding and exiting out from it was Kurai.

"Well, well, well. It's been a long time, hasn't it Declan," Kurai said.

"It sure has," Declan replied as he adjusted his glasses. "I believe the last time we saw each other was during the Senior Youth Division of the Arc League Championship almost three years ago. You remember?"

"Oh, I remember," Kurai replied. "How could I forget? It was the day you stole my dream of becoming a Pro Duelist."

"Say whatever you like. I won that duel fair and square, and as much as I would love to continue to reminiscence about old memories, I'm a little short on time at the moment, so if you would excuse me?"

"I do mind," Kurai stated. "For the last seven years, I've been training nonstop in isolation, waiting for the day to challenge you once again."

"Well, I don't know if you were aware that a duel was interrupted a few weeks by some unknown invaders from another dimension," Declan pointed out.

"Oh, I heard," Kurai replied. "But I wasn't going to let that stop me. Now I say this once again, duel me!"

"Listen here! My son says he has an important to attend to. So if you know what's best for you, you'll listen to him before I call security to escort you out of the building!" Henrietta exclaimed.

"Thanks for the help, mom, but I got this handle," Declan said. "Fine. I'll duel you. But first, follow me."

"Why?" Kurai asked.

"I suggest you do it unless you want that duel."

"Fine."

Kurai followed as they entered the elevator and left.

"I hope you know what you're doing, Declan," Henrietta said.

Elsewhere, in the Leo Corporation's basement…

"Bah! What's taking Declan so long?" Sylvio questioned. "Doesn't he know not to keep the Great Sylvio waiting?'

"He's probably late because he knew he had to deal with you after hearing about your return," Gong sarcastically answered.

"Now come on, Sylvio and Gong. Let's night fight with one another," Dennis said.

"Dennis is right. Let's focus all that anger and hatred towards the Arbiters," Crow added.

"I don't Crow, Shay and I are enjoying the show. Isn't that right, Shay?" Sora asked.

"He's right. I am," Shay stated.

"Let's just be patient until Declan arrives," Moon Shadow said.

"Well, you all don't have to wait any longer.

They all turned as Declan Akaba, Nakajima, and a boy with dark blue eyes and pitch-black hair wearing a pair of glasses and a long-sleeved dark-brown shirt with a pocket near the left side of his chest and long, dark-brown pants and brown shoes.

Noticing everyone's gaze, Declan responded. "I'm glad you're all here. This is my old rival, Kurai Okabe."

"Old rival?" Sylvio said.

"You mean he's the duelist you beat to become a pro?" Gong asked.

"Correct," Declan answered.

"Is here to join us to help stop the Arbiters?" Dennis asked.

"Not exactly," Kurai answered. "I'm here to duel your leader here and reclaim what's rightfully mine."

"Look, buddy, Declan doesn't have time to duel you right now," Crow stated.

"Crow's right. We're about to depart for the Link Dimension," Shay added. "So you'll have to wait until he returns."

"Thanks for your input, gentlemen, but I've already accepted his challenge," Declan stated.

"But do you have to duel this guy?" Sawatari asked loudly. "If it's just to settle an old score, I'd be more than happy to take your place."

"I appreciate that Sylvio, but there's only one duelist that he'll face, and that duelist is me," Declan answered. "If all of you don't mind, follow me to the LDS Duel Court."

All the Lancers followed the three outside to the center court.

A few minutes later, in LDS's Center Court…

The entire group entered the court as the Lancers entered the stands, Nakajima went to the operations booth, and Declan and Kurai went straight to the field.

"Well, since we're here now, how about we get started on our duel?" Kurai said.

"It would be my pleasure," Declan said. "But before we begin, why don't we make things even?"

"Even? How so?"

"Seeing on how if you win this duel, you'll get my championship title, so I believe I should get something in return," Declan explained. "If I win, then you have to join the Lancers."

Kurai raised an eyebrow. "Join your Lancers?"

"Oi, Declan!" Sylvio protested. "This guy ruined our plans to departure to the Link Dimension! You want him on our team?"

"Yes, I do," Declan said, nodding. "After you see his skills in this duel, you'll see he be an incredible ally to have."

Kurai narrowed his eyes at Declan."Very well. If you win the duel, I'll tell you." After he said that, he narrowed his eyes towards Nakajima in the operations booth.

"Ready, Nakajima?"

"Yes, sir." Nakajima pressed a few buttons, then said, "Action Field On! Activating Field Spell: Erebus Plains!"

The ground beneath Kurai and Declan lit up, transforming the bare arena into an underground cavern filled with stalactites and stalagmites. Small rivers of lava also crisscrossed the ground, making the terrain even more dangerous. Finally, disembodied spirits could be seen floating around the sealing, adding up to the horrific atmosphere.

"Home sweet home…."

Kurai muttered under his breath. Erebus Plains was the Action Field he dueled Declan in three years ago.

"I hope you don't mind me choosing this field. Thought it would bring back some old memories," Declan informed.

"It does. And those memories will fuel my desire to defeat you!" Kurai exclaimed.

"Let us begin then!" Declan shouted. "Duelists locked in battle!"

"Kicking the earth and dancing in the air alongside their monsters!" Kurai continued.

"They storm through this field!"

"Behold! This is the newest and greatest evolution of Dueling!"

"Action—!" The Lancers yelled.

"Duel!"

Both Declan and Kurai shouted in unison as the Action Cards scattered around the field.

Declan Akaba: 4000 LP

Kurai Okabe: 4000 LP

"I'll take the first turn," Declan announced. "I activate two copies of the Continuous Spell Card: Dark Contract with the Gate. Once per turn, I can add a Level 4 or lower "D/D" monster from my Deck to my hand. But during my Standby Phase, I'll take 1000 points of damage."

"Declan used that card against his duel against Yuya," Gong remembered.

"Since he activated two of these, doesn't that mean he'll receive 2000 damage in his next turn?" Sylvio wondered. "What is he thinking?"

"Not sure," Dennis admitted. "However, it has to be part of his strategy."

"Using the effect of Dark Contract with the Gate, I add D/D Necro Slime and D/D Berfomet from my Deck to my hand." Declan continued. "Then, I activate the Continuous Spell Card: Dark Contract with the Swamp King. Like the other two Contracts, this will inflict 1000 damage to me during my Standby Phase. However, its effect allows me to perform a Fusion Summon without using a Fusion Spell Card."

A silhouette of a swamp monster was present on the field momentarily.

Kurai's eyes widened in shock. "What? You know how to Fusion Summon?"

"That's right," Declan smiled as he grabbed two cards, "The monsters I will fuse will be D/D Necro Slime and D/D Berfomet." Both monsters went into the colorful vortex.

"Arcane swirl that takes in all forms! Engulf the grotesque God, and now become one and give birth to a new king! I Fusion Summon! Be born! D/D/D Flame King Ghengis!"

An imposing warrior wreathed in flames and held a large crimson broadsword and shield appeared on Declan's field.

D/D/D Flame King Ghengis ATK 2000 DEF 1500 LVL: 6

Kurai looked at the monster in surprise, "He Fusion Summoned…." Declan didn't Fusion Summon the last time they had a duel together, so that means he's gotten stronger as well since they last met.

"Next, I summon the Tuner monster, D/D Nighthowl!"

A demonic monster that resembled a red mouth with eyes and jaws appeared on the field.

D/D Nighthowl ATK 300 DEF 600 LVL: 3

Kurai was surprised, "Tuner monster? Does that mean…?"

"Nighthowl's effect activates! When it is Normal Summoned, I can Special Summon a "D/D" monster from my Graveyard, but its attack and defense points become 0. Resurrect, D/D Berfomet!"

A fiend with feathery wings and two arms on one side of its body appeared next to Nighthowl.

D/D Berfomet ATK 1400 DEF 1800 LVL: 4

"I tune my Level 3 Night Howling with my Level 4 Berfomet!"

Night Howling turned into green energy rings that surrounded Berfomet.

"Howls that tear through the night with the swiftness of a gale give birth to a new king! I Synchro Summon! Be born! Level 7! D/D/D Gust King Alexander!"

A new monster wreathed in winds wearing silver armor wielding a large sword in its hands appeared onto the field next to Ghengis.

D/D/D Gust King Alexander ATK 2500 DEF 2000 LVL: 7

Kurai was surprised after seeing Declan's move. "You also know how to Synchro Summon?!"

Declan then held out his hand towards Ghengis, "Now I activate my Flame Kings special ability!" Ghengis raised its sword, "When a "D/D" monster besides this card is Special Summoned, I can Special Summon one "D/D" monster from my Graveyard! Be reborn, D/D Necro Slime!"

A putrid creature made out of purple slime wearing a skull appeared on Declan's field.

D/D Necro Slime ATK 300 DEF 300 LVL: 1

"Additionally, I activate Gust King Alexander's ability! When a "D/D" monster is Normal or Special Summoned, I can Special Summon one Level 4 or below "D/D" monster from my Graveyard! Be reborn once more, D/D Berfomet!"

Berfomet appeared back on the field alongside Necro Slime.

"I activate D/D Berfomet's effect! Once per turn, I can change the Level of another "D/D" monster to between 1 and 8. I change Necro Slime's Level to 4."

D/D/D Necro Slime LVL: 1→4

Kurai narrowed his eyes at them, "Two Level 4 monsters...Don't tell me…."

Declan raised his hand, "I overlay my Level 4 D/D Necro Slime and D/D Berfomet!"

Both monsters turned into purple energy and went into a dark portal.

"To subjugate all that resides in this world, now, descend onto the peak of the world! I Xyz Summon! Be born! Rank 4! D/D/D Wave King Caesar!"

A third monster clad in dark blue armor and holding a giant broadsword joined the other two kings.

D/D/D Wave King Caesar ATK 2400 DEF 1200 RNK: 4 OU: 2

Kurai narrowed his eyes a little, "So he can even use Xyz Monsters…."

"Declan performed a Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz Summoning on his very first turn," Moon Shadow noted. "Impressive as always."

Declan placed the last card in his hand into his Duel Disk, "I set a card and end my turn." He then looked at Kurai with both a curious and cautious look on his face. Normally, he would observe his opponent first by holding back a little and then counterattacking full force. Now, he's waiting to see how Kurai would respond.

However, to almost everyone's surprise, they all saw Kurai laughing a little while having his eyes closed. Declan was watching this with a serious expression but was also curious about what Kurai was doing.

After he stopped laughing, Kurai smirked at Declan, "Amazing, Declan. You're even better than before. Especially with three summoning methods in one turn." He raised his fist in excitement, "In case, I'll answer to you back with full force!"

Kurai placed his fingers on his Deck, "My turn, Draw!" He held a card up in his hand, "First, I summon Tour Guide From the Underworld!"

A red-haired woman wearing a blue suit and carrying a black purse with a skull-and-crossbones on it appeared.

Tour Guide From the Underworld ATK 1000 DEF 600 LVL: 3

"Tour Guide's monster effect! When it is Normal Summoned, I can Special Summon a Level 3 Fiend monster from my hand or Deck with its effects negated. From my Deck, I summon Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss!"

A draconian demon with black-and-red skin appeared in Attack Position.

Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss ATK 1000 DEF 1500 LVL: 3

"These monsters normally destroy themselves if I control a monster that is not a "Burning Abyss" monster," Kurai said. "But because Graff's effects are negated, it won't be destroyed," Kurai explained. "I now overlay my Level 3 Tour Guide with my Level 3 Graff!"

His monsters turned into streams of purple energy and entered the portal. A pillar of blue energy burst out of the spiral.

"The poet who traversed the infernal lands! Let your story reach a new generation! Xyz Summon! Rise, Rank 3! Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss!"

A dark-haired man in a red tunic over a black shirt with a small bag and sword on his body appeared on Kurai's field in Attack Position.

Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss ATK 1000 DEF 2500 RNK: 3 OU: 2

"So you know how to Xyz Summon as well?" Declan asked.

"That's right, Declan. You're not the only one who has a few tricks up his sleeve," Kurai replied.

"Can't wait to see what they are."

"Oh, you will. But first, I activate Dante's effect! By detaching an Overlay Unit, I can send up to three cards from the top of my Deck to the Graveyard, and for each sent card, Dante gains 500 attack points. I send three cards to the Graveyard."

Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss OU: 2→1

Kurai took the cards and saw their names – Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and Powerful Rebirth – before he sent them to the Graveyard.

Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss ATK 1000→2500

"The effects of the detached Graff and the sent Calcab now activate! First, thanks to Calcab's effect, I can return a Set Spell or Trap Card to the hand. I'll return your only Set card!

A blast of light erupted from Kurai's Graveyard straight towards Declan's set card.

"I don't think so," Declan said before he gestured to his field. "I activate the Trap Card: Contract Laundering!" Kurai blinked at his move. With this card, all "Dark Contract" cards in my Spell and Trap Zone are destroyed!" As soon as he said that, all three of Declan's Continuous Spells were destroyed by Contract Laundering.

Kurai narrowed his eyes at Reiji, knowing he did that so he wouldn't take damage during his next turn.

Dennis was a little surprised, "He got rid of his "Contract" cards."

Crow was a little amazed, "That's why he was willing to risk using those cards, so he can use their effects and destroy them afterward not to pay any life points."

Declan looked at Kurai, "Due to Contract Laundering's effect, I get to draw a card for every "Dark Contract" card that was destroyed by this effect, and then I gain 1000 LP for every card I draw."

Declan drew three cards from his Deck as he gained life points.

Declan: 4000→7000 LP

Persephone gritted her teeth. "You may have got past that, but I still have Graff's effect. I can now Special Summon a "Burning Abyss" monster from my Deck. Serve me, Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss!"

A muscular demon resembling a bull with grey-blue skin and broken blue horns snorted upon being summoned to Kurai's field.

Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss ATK: 1600 DEF: 1200 LV: 3

"Wait a minute. I thought Graff's effects were negated when it summoned through Tour Guide's effect?" Sylvio questioned.

"That's only when it's on the field," Gong pointed out. "When Kurai sent Graff to the Graveyard, it became no longer affected by Tour Guide."

"I knew that. I was just testing you to see if you knew."

"Right," Sora said.

"As I control no Spell or Trap Cards, I can Special Summon Barbar, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss!"

A horned, bearded elderly man wielding a spike ball on a chain appeared.

Barbar, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss ATK 1700 DEF 1000 LVL: 3

"I once again build the Overlay Network with Cir and Barbar!"

Both the demons turned into streams of purple energy as they entered the portal.

"I Xyz Summon! Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss!"

The same Xyz Monster appeared next to the first one.

Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss ATK 1000 DEF 2500 RNK: 3 OU: 2

"He summoned another one?" Shay questioned.

"Maybe it's a part of his strategy," Moon Shadow deduced.

"I use my second Dante's effect to mill up to three more cards from the top of my Deck, and for each card sent, Dante gains 500 attack points until the end of the turn."

Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss OU: 2→1

"I send three cards to the Graveyard." Kurai took the cards and placed them in her Graveyard. "The cards I sent to the Graveyard were Revenge Soul, Return of the Doomed, and Tour Bus From the Underworld. When Tour Bus is sent to the Graveyard, I can shuffle a monster back into the Deck from my Graveyard. I send Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the Graveyard and return Tour Guide to my Deck."

He pointed to her field. "Cir's effect activates! When sent to the Graveyard, I can Special Summon a 'Burning Abyss' monster from my Graveyard. Resurrect, Graff!"

The draconian fiend reappeared in Defense Position.

Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss ATK 1000 DEF 1500 LVL: 3

"And like Barbar, since I control no Spell or Trap Cards, I can Special Summon Draghig, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss!"

A black-skinned humanoid dragon with violet spikes above its fists appeared in Attack Position.

Draghig, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss ATK 1100 DEF 900 LVL: 3

"And for the third time, I'll Xyz Summon using Draghig and Graff!"

The two demons turned into purple streams of energy as they entered the portal.

"I Xyz Summon! Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss!"

Appearing on Kurai's field was a third Dante.

Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss ATK 1000 DEF 2500 RNK: 3 OU: 2

"I'll now use my third Dante's effect to send the up to three cards of my Deck to the Graveyard to have it gain 500 attack points for each one."

"I send three cards to the Graveyard." Kurai took the cards and placed them in her Graveyard. "The cards I sent to the Graveyard were Breakthrough Skill, Offerings to the Doomed, and Sangan."

Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss ATK 1000→2500

"Now each of my three Dantes has 2500 ATK," Kurai stated.

"It doesn't matter how many of those things you summons," Declan said. "They may have enough attack points to beat two of my kings, but not Alexander."

"Not until I activate the Equip Spell Card: Chthonian Alliance! The monster this card is equipped to gains 800 attack points for every monster on the field with the same name as it." The Dante Soldier on Kurai's left growled as it was covered in dark energy and grew three times its normal size.

Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss ATK 2500→4900

The spectators gasped at the power Dante was giving off.

"Now they're all strong enough to take out Declan's monsters!" Sylvio stated.

"Battle! Dante attacks Flame King Ghengis!"

Dante charged forward, pulled out his sword, and slashed the Fusion Monster in two, turning it into particles.

Declan Akaba: 7000→6500 LP

"Since Dante attacked, I must change him to Defense Position," Kurai added as Dante returned to his field. "I'll now have my second Dante attack Wave King Caesar!"

The second Dante charged forward towards the Xyz Monster.

"I'll use Wave King Caesar's effect to detach an Overlay Unit to return all destroyed "D/D" monsters during my next turn at the cost of 1000 Life Points for each one revived," Declan stated.

I won't let that happen!" Kurai declared. "I banish Breakthrough Skill from my Graveyard to use its effects to negate Caesar's effect."

A blast of light emerged from Kurai's Graveyard once again as it struck Caesar and a grey aura surrounded it, robbing it of its abilities before being destroyed by Dante.

Declan Akaba: 6500→6400 LP

"When Wave King Caesar is sent from the field to the Graveyard, I can add one "Dark Contract" card from my Deck to my hand," Declan said as he added a card to his hand.

"Well, Dante's effect switches him into Defense Position," Kurai said. "Finally, I'll have my third and final Dante attacks your Gust King Alexander!"

Like the other two Dantes, the third one charged at Alexander and sliced it with its sword, destroying it.

Declan Akaba: 6400→4000 LP

"And just like before, he'll go from offense to defense," The third Dante then took a defensive stance like the others. "I'll now place three cards face-down and end my turn. During the End Phase, all my three Dante's attack points return to normal."

Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss ATK 2500→1000

Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss ATK 2500→1000

"But I still have another effect to activate! During the End Phase, Scarm was sent to the Graveyard this turn, which means I can add a Level 3 Dark Fiend monster from my Deck to my hand. I'll add Farfa to my hand."

"He used a lot of effects there," Crow said.

"His monsters' effects activate whenever they are sent to the Graveyard," Sora said. "Hmm.

Then I suppose it would be best to remove them from the field by ways other than destroying them?" Dennis asked.

"Exactly," Moon Shadow said.

Declan looked out over Kurai's field. "A very impressive display," he said. "And powerful." He looked over Kurai's monsters one by one. "You summoned multiple Dantes and used their effects to power themselves up as well as using the effects of your monsters from your Graveyard to give you an advantage while putting me at a disadvantage."

"I am aware of my monsters' effects," Kurai said. "Why are you talking about them?"

"I am simply praising your dueling skills," Kurai replied. "You Special Summoned three monsters from the Extra Deck on the same turn and arranged them in such a way to take maximum advantage of their effects. Even most pro duelists wouldn't be able to do what you've done. But…" Declan narrowed his eyes. "Do you think this is enough?"

Kurai's expression didn't change. "I would be disappointed if it was."

Declan smirked at Kurai's words. "Good. Then you won't mind if I break your formation. My turn! Draw!"

"Break Kurai's formation?" Gong repeated. "Can he do that?"

Declan looked at his card and then immediately played it. "I activate the Spell Card Graceful Charity! It allows me to draw three cards, at the cost of discarding two."

He drew his three cards, then discarded another copy D/D Berfomet and D/D Pandora. "I now activate the Continous Spell Card: Dark Contract with the Infinite Pendulum. The card showed a pendulum pendant, similar to Yuya's but red instead of blue and two demonic wings. The pendant was swinging back and forth above a sheet of old paper with an unknown language written on it.

"I can activate this card while I have no cards on my field, and once per turn, if I have no cards in both my Pendulum Zones, I can add two "D/D" Pendulum Monsters from my Deck to my hand."

As the Spell Card started glowing, two cards ejected from Declan's Deck, and he placed them in his hand.

"Now, with the Scale 1 D/D/D Knowledge King Tomb Conquistador and the Scale 6 D/D Savant Thomas, I set the Pendulum Scale!"

As Declan swiped the two cards on either side of his energy blade, the word Pendulum flashed on his blade. Two pillars of blue lights formed on his field as two monsters hovered in them. One contained a massive gold and purple-colored fiend with an exposed brain, and the other contained a gold statue with a face inside its container powered by electricity.

D/D Knowledge King Tomb Conquistador Scale: 1

"With this, I can summon Level 2 to 5 monsters all at once."

Kurai's eyes widened. "So this is the infamous Pendulum Summon I heard about."

"The energies of the universe swing between the forces of darkness and light. I shall now harness the power of this eternal osculation. I Pendulum Summon and call upon my two monsters to emerge!"

As Declan finished his chant, a giant portal opened between his Pendulum Scales as two rays of purple lights shot out of it.

"D/D Brownie!"

"And D/D Ammit!"

Emerging onto Declan's field was a small demon with a bat-like wing taking the place of its right hand and two wings extending from the left side of its back, and a Monster with the head of a crocodile, the torso of a lion, and the lower body of a hippopotamus.

"Fierce demons that subjugate the infinite dimensions! Become one now within the vortex of light and give birth to the almighty king ruling over the four corners of the earth! I Fusion Summon! Come forth! D/D/D Dusk King Cyrus!"

Appearing on Declan's field was a humanoid giant, clad from head to toe in golden armor with black parts on his chest, abdominals, upper arms, thigh, hands, and feet, making it seem he was wearing gloves and shoes. He points at Dante on the left. "I target your Dante equipped with Chthonian Alliance and Dawn King Atilla!"

"Oh no!" Kurai gasped.

"Battle! I attack your Dante on the right with Dusk King Cyrus! Shadow Sword Strike!"

At that moment of the command, Cyrus charged towards Dante with his sword ready.

"Dusk King Cyrus's additional effect activates! When it attacks, all your monsters are forced into Attack Position!" Declan stated as all of Kurai's monsters switch from a defensive stance to an offensive stance.

"I activate the Trap Card: Damage Diet! Until the End Phase, all damage I take is cut in half!"

Cyrus slashed Dante with his sword, destroying it and forcing Kurai to skid backwards a bit.

"Dantes effect activates!" Kurai declared. "When Dante goes to the Graveyard, I'm allowed to add any "Burning Abyss" card from my Grave to my hand. With Dante's effect, I'll add Cir to my hand."

"Since you control one less Dante, the one equipped with Chthonian Alliance loses 800 attack points," Decla pointed out.

Darius swung its mace around and around before throwing it at Dante, destroying him and making Kurai wince in pain.

"Dante's effect activates again! I'll add Graff back to my hand."

"But once again, your equipped monster loses another 800 points."

"But even if you attack, I'll still have Life Points left," Kurai stated.

"I'm afraid to say that you're wrong," Declan rebutted, confusing Kurai and everyone else. "You see, if I control another "D/D/D" monster while Attila is on my field, then all battle damage you take from attacks involving from him is doubled."

"It is?" Kurai said.

"It is! Battle! Dawn King Attila attacks your third and final Dante! Shining Slash!"

Attila's sword started to glow brightly as it charged towards Kurai's Xyz Monster.

"Deceitful Contract's effect activates! Robbing your monster of 1000 ATK and giving it to my monster!"

"With the effect of Damage Diet still in play, he will take 1650 from this attack," Sora noted.

"But thanks to Declan's Synchro Monster, the damage will double back to 3300, winning him the game," Moon Shadow added.

The warrior slashed Dante with its sword, destroying him in a massive explosion covering Kurai's field.

"Looks like Declan won," Gong said.

"I'm not surprised," Sylvio said.

"Poor Kurai," Dennis said.

"There's always next time," Crow said.

"Now, hold on a minute, don't go deciding things until after the smoke has cleared," Shay stated.

"I have to say, Kurai, I'm a bit disappointed that you couldn't last long, but I'm afraid to say this duel is over," Declan said. "Better luck next time."

"Celebrating so soon? Because this duel isn't done."

"Much to everyone's shock, Kurai was still standing.

Kurai: 2250→2950 LP

"You can't get rid of me that easily," Kurai said.

"It appears so," Declan stated. "How did you survive?"

"Before your attack connected, I activated my Trap Card: Nutrient Z. When I'm about to take 2000 or more points of battle damage, this card gives me 4000 life points before damage calculation, meaning my Life Points increased to 6250, giving me enough to survive your attack."

"Looks like this duel will continue after all," Declan said. "Since it is the end of the Battle Phase, the effect of War Deity ends."

D/D/D Dawn King Attila ATK 4100→3100

"You're not the only one who can activate an effect," Kurai stated. "Dante's effect lets me add Scarm back to my hand, and since Barbar was sent to the Graveyard, its effect lets banish up to three "Burning Abyss" cards from my Graveyard and inflict 300 points of damage to you for each one. I banish Barbar, Draghig, and one of my Dantes to inflict 900 points of damage!"

Declan winced as a red glow briefly appeared around him.

Declan: 4000→3100 LP

Shay chuckled. "I told you guys not to underestimate Kurai."

"As unexpected as that was, it was a clever move," Sora said.

"So, Declan, are done with your turn?" Kurai asked.

"I will be after I set this card face-down," Declan replied as a set card appeared on his field.

Kurai smirked as he looked at Declan. "You're skilled, but I'll prove to you that I'm better! My turn! Draw! I activate the Spell Card: Spellbook Inside the Pot, which allows the both of us to draw three cards!"

Kurai and Declan both drew their cards and added them to their hands.

Kurai looked at the cards he drew and smiled. "I activate the Spell Card: Pre-Preparation of Rites! This card lets me add one Ritual Spell Card from my Deck to my hand. Then, I can add a Ritual Monster listed on a Ritual Spell Card from my Deck or Graveyard to my hand. From my Deck, I add Good & Evil in the Burning Abyss and Malacoda, Netherlord of the Burning Abyss to my hand."

"What!?" Declan blinked and gasped, as did everyone else in the arena.

"I activate the Ritual Spell card, Good and Evil in the Burning Abyss! This card lets me tribute monsters from my hand or field whose combined levels equal or exceed that of the stated Ritual Monster, and then summon it from my hand." Kurai explained as he smiled. "I'll tribute the Level 3 Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and the Level 3 Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from my hand."

Both monsters were on the field before a temple-like structure appeared behind Kurai. They turned into blue flames, which surrounded the temple, and the door to it opened, making a monster appear.

"The demon that guards the underworld! Inherits these two souls and serve your ruler! I Ritual Summon! Rise, Malacoda, Netherlord of the Burning Abyss!"

A large red-skinned demon with blue armor had appeared. It had large dark blue wings, a tail that ended in a dragon's head, and carried two swords – one blue and one red.

Declan looked impressed while looking at Kurai's new monster, "Amazing...He knows Ritual Summoning as well."

However, Kurai wasn't done as he gestured his hand to his field. "At this point, the effects of your, Graff and Farfa, both activate! When Farfa is sent to the Graveyard, one monster is banished until the End Phase! I select Dusk King Cyrus!"

Cyrus disappeared from Declan's field, leaving him only with Attila and Darius.

"Since I no longer control Cyrus, all my monsters lose 800 ATK," Declan pointed out.

Both monsters went into the air as Rubic became an energy that surrounded Libic.

"The poet's guide to purgatory! Ascend to the earth and perform once more! I Synchro Summon! Appear, Level 6! Virgil, Rock Star of the Burning Abyss!"

"What?" Declan said in surprise.

"I discard Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to return Deceitful Dark Contract with the War Deity to your Deck! Purgatorio Symphony!"

Virgil strummed more chords and blasted the Continuous Spell with blue fire, disintegrating it.

"Now Declan can no longer power up his monsters while weakening his opponents at the same time!" Sylvio exclaimed.

"Declan's in a tough situation now," Moon Shadow noted.

Battle! Malacoda attacks Dawn King Attila! Abyssal Slash!"

Malacoda's swords lit on fire. It charged and bisected Attila, making Declan wince as it exploded.

Declan: 3100→2700 LP

"Before I make my next attack, I'll activate my set card. The Continuous Trap Card: Fiendish Chain!" Kurai declared. "One monster on the field has its effects negated and cannot attack!"

Declan gasped as numerous chains appeared and bound Stone King Darius.

"Gah! He chained Declan's monster!" Dennis shouted.

"Now, Virgil attacks Stone King Darius! Purgatorio Rhapsody!" Virgil strummed his guitar and blasted Darius with blue flames, destroying it as the embers from its attack struck Declan as he grunted in pain.

"Finally, Cir attacks you directly!"

The muscular demon charged towards Declan with its claws ready. In response, Declan started running towards an Action Card.

"Hope Declan gets that Action Card, or else he'll have less than 1000 Life Points," Crow stated.

Cir was getting closer to Declan as he sped up and grabbed it before gesturing to his field.

"I activate the Trap Card: D/D/D Life Insurance!" The card showed a stack of papers with a purple hand holding a quill writing on the top paper. A small cup of blue liquid was in the corner. "As I control no monsters, I can discard one card, Like my D/D Scylla." He said as he discarded the card. "Then, I can target a "D/D/D" monster that is in my Graveyard or Extra Deck that was destroyed and sent there this turn. I target my Dawn King Attila!"

A spectral form of Dawn King Attila appeared behind Declan and glowed with light green energy. "I gain Life Points equal to half of Dawn King Attila's attack points, and for every interval of 1000 attack points, I draw one card."

"Dawn King Attila has 2300 attack points," Shay said.

"So Declan gains 1150 Life Points and draws two cards," Sora said as Declan drew before being attacked by Cir.

"You may have got a few new cards and some extra Life Points, but at the moment, I hold the advantage, and I intend to keep it," Kurai said. "I end my turn. Declan then took a card from his hand. "I activate the Action Spell Card: Acceleration! Through its effect, the effect damage I take is reduced to zero!"

"I'd figure you had something up your sleeve to save yourself from your Spell," Kurai said.

"You're right, and I'm far from done," Declan said. I activate the Spell Card: Bubble Burst! With this, I can destroy one face-up Spell or Trap I control, like my Infinite Pendulum to draw two extra cards."

The Continuous Spell exploded into particles as Declan drew again.

"I activate the Spell Card: Dark Eruption! I can add a Dark monster with 1500 or fewer attack points from my Graveyard to my hand. I'll add D/D Nighthowl back to my hand."

"Nighthowl?" Kurai wondered. "Are you planning on Synchro Summoning?"

"Ruler of wind, merge with the ruler of waves to give birth to the new king! I Fusion Summon! Be reborn, the new flame king! D/D/D Flame High King Ghenghis!"

The new flame king is bigger than the predecessor with four massive arms, two of them carrying two flame-shaped swords while the other two hold a giant sword and a shield. "Tch," Sylvio said. "Declan was so close!"

Kurai stood up and steadied his breathing.

Declan smiled and looked at Kurai. You've become more tenacious since the last time we saw each other. "I banish D/D Rebirth from my Graveyard to send D/D Dullahan from my Deck to the Graveyard," Declan continued. "Finally, I place two cards face-down and end my turn."

"Well, you can thank yourself for that," Kurai addressed. "If it weren't for that loss back then, I wouldn't work so hard to be the duelist than I am today."

"What is it with this guy that he wants to beat Declan so bad?"

"If you like, I can tell you."

Everyone turned around to see the mystery voice came from none other than Henrietta.

"Chairwoman Henrietta?" Sylvio said, surprised.

"So what do you know about this Kurai Okabe who's so obsessed with Declan?" Shay asked.

Henrietta just stared at Shay for a few seconds before sighing at his persistence. She then turned to everyone else. All of them were curious as well.

Henrietta sighed as he looked at the ceiling a little, "It was around seven years ago, back when Declan competed in his very first tournament."

Flashback: Seven years ago, in Paradise City Dueling Arena…

"Back then, Declan was a beginner that recently got his Deck. Both his father and I taught him the basics at first, and then Declan wanted to try out dueling against other people, and he wanted to duel in his first tournament. Not many people know about this cause we did it secretly, and it wasn't an official tournament. It was more like a practice bracket where you get a small prize, and since it was not an official tournament, nobody talked about it much online or in public."

Declan, who was ten years old at the time, pointed at one of his monsters, "I attack you directly with D/D Cerberus!" A three demon creature charged towards Declan's opponent and landed its attack.

Declan jumped up and down in joy over his victory, "Alright, I won!" He was honestly happy he won the duel.

The announcer was excited, "And the winner is Declan Akaba! This young kid will be heading to the quarter-finals!"

Henrietta was watching in the stands to see her son duel and see how well he was. She looked at Declan with a happy and impressed look on his face and was clapping for him.

Then, as hours passed, Declan kept beating his opponents left and right, although some of them weren't exactly easy. Eventually, he won enough to make it to the finals of the tournament.

"I have to admit, even though Declan was a beginner, he was really good for a ten-year-old duelist. Even I was surprised by how much he was progressing, and, in a way, he's somewhat of a dueling genius.

Soon after, Yuya was walking towards the inside of the arena, excited for his final match. He entered the stadium and went to the dueling field.

The announcer spoke as he saw both duelists approaching each other, "It is now time for the final match of the tournament! Give it up for the Dueling Genius, Declan Akaba!" The crowd began to cheer for Declan as he finally got to his side of the arena.

"And from the other side, we have somebody very important in the duelist industry! He's never lost before and showed us the skills of a pro as well as a king! Give it up for the son of Pro Duelist Darius Okabe, Kurai Akaba!" On the other side, Declan could see a boy that looked a little older than him.

"Wat. Isn't Darius Okabe an old Pro Duelist?" Sylvio asked.

"Correct," Henrietta answered. Darius used to be a Pro Duelist before he and his wife had Kurai, and ever since he was born, he taught Kurai everything he knew about dueling and wanted him to continue his legacy.

"And if I remember, his ideology of dueling was Survival of the Fittest," Moon Shadow added.

"Whether it was destiny or not, Kurai ended up being Declan's final opponent, and they both gave it everything they got from what I saw. But in the end, Declan won."

Reiji pointed at his monster, "Supreme King Kaiser attacks you directly!" Kaiser slashed his sword at Yuya, who kneeled as he took the damage.

The crowd was cheering as they saw Declan's victory and confetti flew everywhere. The announcer was excited again, "And the winner is Declan Akaba!"

While satisfied that he won the duel, Declan was relieved as Kurai almost won the duel a couple of times, so it wasn't easy beating him. He then walked over to the crouching Kurai, curious about how he was taking this loss.

"Are you okay?" Declan asked as he held out his hand.

"Get away from me!" Kurai yelled as he smacked away Declan's hand. "Do you have any idea what you've done? I lost the most important match of my life, and I'll never forgive!"

Kurai ran towards the exit as Declan left the field and accepted his trophy.

Flashback End: Present Day…

"And that's what happened. That is how both Declan and Reiji met each other." Henrietta had her eyes closed as he finished his story. Everyone was surprised by the story. Neither one of them had any idea this happened except for Declan, who smiled at the memory, and Kurai, who didn't show any emotion to hearing it.

Gong looked at Henrietta, "I had no idea." Who knew that Declan had such a history with such a person? It honestly amazed him a little bit.

Crow was processing the information, "So Declan got to duel this guy way before all of this?"

"What happened with that guy and his father?" Sora asked.

"From what I heard, Darius disowned Kurai, and he ran away from home to train so he can return one day to beat Declan and win his father's respect back, Henrietta answered.

"That's sad to hear," Dennis said.

"Well, let's see if all that training paid off," Shay said.

"My turn! Draw!" Kurai frowned at his card before turning to look at Declan's field. I can't beat Alexander, who has 6000 attack points, he thought. So I'll have to go with an effect. She smiled as a plan came to her mind. You should be honored, Declan; I didn't think I would have to bring out this monster!

"I'll start by playing the Quick-Play Spell Card: Reload! It allows me to shuffle my hand back to my Deck and draw the same number of cards that I shuffled!"

Kurai added back Graff and Farfa into his Deck as it then shuffled before placing his fingers on the top of it. With just one swipe, Kurai drew two new cards.

"Time to turn things around with this. I set one card face-down and activate the Spell Card: Card of Demise! It lets me draw five new cards as long as I discard my entire hand in five turns. But I can say that this duel will be over before then.

"We'll see," Declan rebutted.

"Yes, we will. From my hand, I activate the Quick-Play Spell Card: Forbidden Chalice! Not only does it give your Caesar 400 extra attack points, but it also loses its effects.

"Even so, Barbar's effect continues!" Kurai pointed out.

Declan was then knocked back several feet by the three fireballs.

Declan: 1050→150 LP

"Declan managed to survive," Moon Shadow.

"But that doesn't mean he's safe," Shay addressed.

"Battle!" Kurai declared. "Dante attacks you directly! Paradise's Enlightenment!"

The man's staff shone with golden light, which he blasted at Declan.

"I activate the effect of D/D Dullahan in my Graveyard!" Declan exclaimed. "When I'm about to receive a direct attack, I can Special Summon it! Revive, D/D Dullahan in defense mode!"

A portal appeared on the ground, with a headless armored knight surrounded by blue flames that held its severed head in its left hand appeared on Reiji's field.

"Futile resistance…" Kurai growled. "In that case, Dante will destroy your D/D Dullahan!"

Dante released a blast from its staff once again, this time ar Dullahan, destroying it.

"Due to its effect, D/D Dullahan is banished," Declan said.

"It looks like you managed to survive yet again," Kurai said. "However, I'm afraid you won't be so lucky next time. I activate the Spell Card: Pot of Avarice! This lets me shuffle five monsters in my Graveyard back into the Deck and draw two cards. I target Graff, Scarm, Farfa, Rubic, and Tour Guide in my Graveyard to shuffle them back into my Decks." Kurai took and shuffled the cards from his Graveyard into his Deck, then drew. "I set two cards and end my turn. Meaning your Alexander returns to your field."

The humanoid giant in golden armor reappeared on Declan's field.

Sora looked at Declan, "With only 150 Life Points left, Declan will lose, won't he?"

Henrietta was still looking at her son, "...Maybe. Although it depends on what he draws on his next turn."

Declan was looking at the situation he was in and sighed, "This is it. Unless I can make a big move on my next turn, I'll lose this duel." He looked at his current hand and then his Deck, "I'll just have to do what Yuya does and believe in my Deck and, in hope, it believes in me."

He placed his fingers on his Deck. "My turn! Draw! During my Standby Phase, Eternal Spell treated as Dark Contract with the Swamp King would inflict 1000 points of damage to me."

Declan gestured to the side of his field. "Knowledge King Tomb Conquistador's Pendulum Effect! If I would take damage from the effect of my "Dark Contract" card, I gain that same amount of Life Points instead!"

Kurai's eyes widened. "What?"

Declan: 150→1150 LP

He turned the card around to see the card he drew and smiled happily, "Perfect!"

"I activate the Trap Card: Intrigue Shield!" Kurai declared. "When this card is activated, it becomes an Equip Card to one of my monsters. The equipped monster cannot be destroyed in battle once per turn, and I don't take any battle damage when the equipped monster battles."

A gold and black shield appeared in Dante's hand.

"Meaning it'll make things more difficult for him," Moon Shadow added.

And if you manage to get rid of Intrigue Shield or declare another attack, Kurai thought, my Ghost of a Grudge Trap Card will lower your monster's attack points to zero. It doesn't matter what you play this turn. You'll lose!

"You know what you are, Kurai? Naive"

"I am…naive, you say?" Kurai frowned. "How so?"

"A duel isn't finished until the other player's Life Points drop to zero," Declan stated. "Advantage's can be easily overturned with a single draw. Kurai, your approach to Dueling is way too straightforward and inflexible, just like back then. In a Duel, just like in life, you have to be able to adapt to any unexpected circumstances if you wish to triumph."

"Foolishness." Kurai scoffed at Declan's words. "You of all people should know that without a well-thought-out strategy, you cannot possibly attain victory in a Duel."

"You're right about that," Declan admitted. But at this moment, I'll prove to you that you're wrong!"

"Those are some pretty big words from someone who only has a single card in his hand," Kurai said. "However, I respect your will to keep on fighting despite the impossible odds stacked up against you. If you believe my way of dueling to be mistaken, then, by all means, prove your point by defeating me…if you can, that is."

"I'll accept this challenge!" Declan grinned. "I activate the Spell Card: Monster Recovery! This card shuffles all the cards on my field and in my hand back into my Deck to draw five new cards!"

Kurai was stunned a bit that Declan is willing to gamble the duel on doing a stupid act like this, even telling him. ''You're willing to risk everything for such a pathetic move?''

Declan closes his eyes, ignoring Okabe. "That's one of the many factors that make duels so exhilarating. Plus—you should know that those who are strong enough determine their luck, Kurai! Let's do this!"

Following Declan's words, all his cards were shuffled back into his Deck as he then proceeded to draws his five cards. ''DRAW!''

Declan, eyeing the cards he drew, smiled after seeing them. "Here I go! I first activate the Continuous Spell Card: Forbidden Dark Contract with the Swamp King! During my Standby Phase, I'll take 2000 points of damage, but in exchange, I can summon a "D/D/D" monster from my hand by negating its special abilities. Come forth, D/D Proud Ogre!"

An eyeless, black-armored demon with red lining across its body and red belt stripes and gauntlets appeared on Declan's field.

"Next, I summon D/D Swirl Slime!"

A spiky blue, one red-eye creature with slime around the parts of the eye with one wingless wing and an armless and legless appeared next to Proud Ogre.

"Those two monsters aren't strong enough to go against Kurai's Dante," Crow stated.

"Perhaps, he's going to use his Spell to Fusion Summon?" Sora said.

Declan narrowed his eyes atKurai. "I think it's time for me to show you something unexpected, Okabe."

What do you mean?" Yuya asked.

"I mean this!" Declan declared as he activated a program from his Duel Disk.

"Master Rule Override activated."

"What the heck?!" Kurai yelled out as he noticed the changes on his duel disk. There suddenly were two new spaces in between his and Declan's Monster Zones, as well, noticing Declan's Pendulum Zones have been moved to his far-left and far-right Spell/Trap Zone.

"What did you do?"

"I just activated a little program known as Master Rule Override, which changes the set of Master Rules," Declan explained. "Those two zones you see are the Extra Monster Zones, and they limit the both of us from Special Summoning more than one monster from the Extra Deck at a time.

"No way!" Kurai shouted.

"And your so-called Pendulum Zones are no more." Declan continued. "Since Pendulums become spells when in the Pendulum Zone, the program not only gets rid of it and transfers them to your Spell/Trap Zone, but also limits the number of Spell and Traps you can play!"

"How and where did you get this?"

"When those invaders arrived, one of my Lancers named Yuya Sakaki dueled one of them who used this program, and taking the opportunity, I copy the program's data to use it as our own," Declan answered. "Now feast your eyes on this, Kurai Okabe!"

Declan gestured to the air above his head. "Appear! The circuit that rules over reality!'' As his hand glowed blue, the Link portal appeared above him, shocking Kurai.

"What the-? What is that!?" he asked.

"Link Arrows Authorized!" Declan chanted. "The summoning conditions are 2 "D/D" monsters. I set my Swirl Slime and Proud Ogre in the Link Arrows!''

Declan's monsters flew into the portal, transforming into dark hurricanes and fly into the Bottom-Left and Bottom-Right Link Arrows.

''Link the Circuit!'' Declan shouted as the Link Portal glowed, and a figure slowly formed within the darkness.

''King that desires strength and who'll consume everything! Lead the way to this world and assist me!'' Declan chants as the darkness expand and pull itself to become a figure within the portal. He then calls it out, pointing forward. ''I Link Summon! Be born! Link-2! D/D/D Abyss King Gilgamesh!''

A mouthless dark blue demon wearing black, golden outline armor emerges from the portal wielding multiple golden, black colored weapons from swords, axes, spears. It has soft pink eyes while wearing a sharp horned crown and sharp ended black cape.

"Link Summon?!" Kurai said in shock.

Everyone else gasped in surprise.

Declan adjusted his glasses as he explained his new monster's ability. ''Gilgamesh's effect activates! When it's Special Summoned, I can place 2 D/D Pendulum Monsters with different names into my Pendulum Scales.''

Gilgamesh lifts his massive sword releasing a burst of dark lightning from it, striking both sides of Declan's field. The lightning becomes the blue energy barrier like Pendulum Scales as two cards pop out from Declan's Deck.

''With the Scale 3 D/D Orthros and the Scale 10 D/D Savant Kepler, I Set the Pendulum Scale!'' Declan declared placing both cards in his Pendulum Zones, creating the Pendulum Scales.

Two pillars of light rose on either end of Declan's field. One contained twin headed silver-haired beast wrapped in blue armor, and the other contained a blue, white, and golden statue with orbs on its body.

D/D Orthros Scale: 3

D/D Savant Kepler Scale: 10

''Then I take 1000 points of damage,'' Declan stated as he was suddenly electrocuted.

Declan: 1150→150 LP

"I now activate Orthros's Pendulum Effect! By destroying my Forbidden Dark Contract with the Swamp King, I can destroy another Spell or Trap on the field. I choose your set card!"

Orthros let out a loud howl that resonated across the field, destroying Declan's Spell and Kurai's set card.

"Great. Looks like I can't use my backup plan," Kurai muttered in disappointment as he couldn't use his set card and had a feeling Declan wasn't done yet.

"I now activate Savant Galilei's effect from my hand," Declan continued. "By sending it to the Graveyard, I get to return D/D Orthros to my hand."

Orthros changed back to its card form as it then returned itself to Declan's hand.

"What was the point of doing that?" Sylvio asked.

"The point was so that Declan can use its Pendulum Effect again," Gong answered.

"I'll now reset the Pendulum Scale with Orthros and use its Pendulum Effect to destroy Kepler and Intrigue Shield."

Orthros let out another howl that destroyed Kepler and Intrigue Shield.

"Now Declan's free to destroy Dante and deal Kurai damage," Shay said.

"But Declan's monster is still weaker than Kurai's," Henrietta pointed out.

"It's time for a face-to-face meeting with despair, Kurai Okabe! This monster in my hand can be Special Summoned by releasing a "D/D/D" monster on my field! I choose to release Abyss King Gilgamesh!"

Following Declan's words, Gilgamesh was absorbed inside a black hole. Immediately afterwards, a storm of energy erupted from it, engulfing the entire field.

"What on Earth is happening!?" Sylvio cried out in alarm. "What sort of monster is going to emerge!?"

"The inexorable decrees of fate will awaken the Demon of Causality!" Declan began chanting. "Descend now before us, the almighty god-king who reigns over destiny itself! D/D/D Destiny King Zero Laplace!"

A dark mist enveloped Declan's field, and emerging out from it was a monster with a skull-shaped face, an elongated body, four arms, and numerous tentacles sprouting from its back. In other words, it had the appearance of a bonafide demon. Furthermore, it was exuding a terrifying aura that gave even Kurai pause.

"I-I'm getting some seriously bad vibes from that monster…." Dennis said with a trembling voice.

"But it has zero attack point." Crow pointed out. "How dangerous can it be?"

"It might have zero attack points, but it's also Level 10." Shay pointed out in return. "Its effect must be quite powerful."

"Definitely." Sora agreed with Shay's assessment. "Kurai might be in serious trouble here."

"Battle!" Declan announced. "D/D/D Destiny King Zero Laplace, attack Dante, Pilgrim of the Burning Abyss!"

"Are you insane? Dante has way more attack points than your Laplace!" Kurai pointed out. "Looks like I'm going to win after all."

"Is that what you think?" Declan smiled coldly. "Zero Laplace's effect activates! This card's attack becomes double the attack of the opponent's monster it battles!" Declan added. "Which means Destiny King's ATK becomes 5600!"

The destiny king's orb glows in bright pink, powering the monster to become stronger than Dante.

"Do it, Zero Laplace! Destroy Dante, Pilgrim of the Burning Abyss! The End of Fate!"

Following Declan's command, Zero Laplace generated a large energy sphere between its four hands and launched it at Dark Anthelion, obliterating him and causing an explosion as Kurai was sent tumbling onto his back.

"Yes!" Sylvio cheered. "Declan won!"

Declan walked across the stadium as the Action Field dispersed. He came up to Kurai, who had pushed himself into a sitting position.

"It's been a long time since I've had a challenging duel like that," Declan said.

"…Same here," Kurai said. "But just because you beat me today doesn't mean that I'm going to give up."

"Is that so? Then I'm glad you have that fire because you're going to need it when we leave for the Link Dimension tomorrow."

"Tomorrow? I thought you guys were leaving today?"

"Originally yes," Declan said. "While everyone was training, I was busy studying the data on the Link Dimension and Link Monsters and seeing that you're a new member of the Lancers, you'll need one as well."

"Hmm. Alright then, Declan. I look forward to working with you and your Lancers," Kurai said as he stood up.

"As do I," Declan replied as he turned to everyone in the stands. Thank you, everyone, for attending and watching this duel. Lancers, I'll see you tomorrow when we depart." With that, Declan turned and left, with Nakajima trailing behind him.

The following day…

Kurai walked towards the entrance of one the topmost floors of the LDS tower, where the rest of the Lancers were waiting. Thanks to Declan, he had his Duel Disk was modified to now be capable of activating an Action Field and letting him travel to other dimensions. He then entered the room.

"Well, look who's finally decided to show up." Sylvio sniffed at Yukio. "Don't you have any awareness of your position, Okabe? Arriving just in the nick of time is unacceptable. As a member of the most elite Duel group in the world, your conduct should be impeccable."

"If this is a gathering of the most elite Duelists, then what are you doing here, Sylvio?" Kurai grinned. "Sightseeing?"

"You dare mock me, you barbarian!?" Sylvio sounded irritated. "Why, I should—!"

"Now, now, calm down." Dennis made a placating gesture. "It's not good to fight amongst ourselves."

"Hey, who asked you for your input?"

"I see you've all gathered."

The one who had spoken was Reiji, who Nakajima accompanied as they walked down a glass staircase.

"So Mr. President shows up last," Sylvio commented.

Declan stepped off the staircase as Dennis saluted him. "All nine members of the Lancers have been gathered if I'm correct, Captain!" he reported.

"You are," Reiji said. "As you all know, your Duel Disks have been installed with the Master Rule Override Program, but since we lack the technology here to create Link Monsters, development on them has been put on hold until we arrive and I can get a hold of their technological resources."

"Well that's a bummer," Gong said.

"And I was really forward on taking those Arbiter thugs with a taste of their own medicine," Crow said.

"But this sure does bring back memories when we left for the Synchro Dimension," Shay noted.

"The only difference is that Crow and I are here. And Dennis is not a double-agent," Sora stated.

"And there's no risk of us getting carded," Moon Shadow added.

"While I love to reminisce of old times, let's focus on the matter at hand," Declan said. "Now, please prepare the cards that were distributed to you."

Everybody raised the Spell Card: Dimensionizer Declan had given them.

"We've inputted the Link Dimension's coordinates in them. Set them on your Duel Disks and activate them at my signal."

Everyone placed the card in their Duel Disks, making their screens glow.

"All right, Lancers. Let's go help out Yuya and Zuzu and get my father back!"

The Lancers nodded as the entire room was enveloped in a bright blue glow. The glow grew brighter and brighter, and when it finally blinked out, the Lancers were gone.

And that is Chapter 16. Bold are OC's. Thanks to SakushiRyu for Dusk King Cyrus and Dawn King Attila and DivadX for the title and the creation of Kurai Okabe. To let you know, he's also allowed me to use his Burning Abyss OC's from his fanfic Yugioh Vrains Obscured Truth, but they also include Link Monsters which I couldn't include in this chapter but will be used in a future chapter. Also, to Guest: I don't think Sol Tech will create Pendulum Cards, but that might change and to the other Guest. I don't plan on making more chapters with duels between the other Duel Club Members, but I can and might be able to write one between Den City High's Duel Club and a Rival School like they did in GX. Also, to Panda39 and DuelMonkey, I would like to hear your thoughts on Chapter 16. As always, like and review. Follow and favorite as well. Hope you enjoyed the chapter and see you next week
