Tony looked at his son and felt his tension slowly release. Peter was asleep curled into the blanket. One of the very few moments of peace, and Tony cherished it. But For Tony it was ruined when his husband walked in. The tension returned to Tony's shoulder and he couldn't help the glare that he gave.
"Tony, can we talk?"
Steve gave him a soft look and Tony couldn't help but to feel his heart break. His husband could always make him feel any type of emotion. Even when he didn't want to.
Tony walked out of the room, after kissing Peter on his forehead, and was followed by Steve. They arrived at an empty room and it was filled with an awkward silence which was quickly irritating Tony. This man wanted to talk and he's being silent?
"You wanted to talk so now talk"
"Tony… I- I am so sorry"
"Sorry for what Steve? Hooking up with Sam?-"
"It wasn't like that Tony"
"-or leaving me alone to deal with my kid while you go off on a Hydra hunt?"
"Our kid Tony"
"No my kid Steve!"
There was a silence while Tony tried to rein in his temper. He didn't plan to have this conversation so soon, he wanted to help his son first.
"He is my kid Steve. I made him so therefore he's my kid. Not Mary's, not May's, and not yours"
A tear fell from Tony's eye and Steve heard him sniff. He wanted to comfort him but he knew that it wouldn't be welcomed.
"That's not fair Tony, did I not raise him too? Did I not watch his first steps? Or hear his first words? Did I not celebrate when he called me pops for the first time and asked if it was okay with you? He is just as much as mine son as he is yours"
"No Steve, not anymore"
Steve's heart broke at the sentence. Who knew that the super soldier can get so hurt with that one sentence.
"I didn't leave you to deal with Peter alone, I was trying to get rid of Hydra before they can get him again"
"We were supposed to do that together Steven! We were supposed to be a team and do this together! But instead you wanted to play hero with Sam. You chose the fight over your family"
"This isn't Sam's fault-"
"No it's not, it's yours. Who do you think told me?"
"What?"
"Yea Sam at least had the balls to tell me instead of letting it stew on the back burner and hoping that I'll never find out"
"Tony I was gonna tell you"
"When? Huh when?"
The silence answered Tony's question which made Tony sighed. God what he would do for a drink right now.
"I'm sorry Tony! God I saw this big problem and I chose the answer that I thought was best! And because of that I made the biggest decision of my life! I just thought that you'll appreciate that me getting rid of Hydra, they pose the biggest threat to our son"
"I care about getting rid of Hydra as much as the next one, but I got a kid that doesn't even know who they are. You were there for Barnes so why aren't you here for Peter?"
"That's not fair, They were completely different situations Tony you know that"
"How so Steve? Torture to forget, captured by Hydra, conditioned to a soldier. Why were you there for Barnes but not Peter?"
Steve stayed quiet under the watchful eye of Tony. There was suddenly a knock on the door and Stephen poked his head in.
"Sorry to interrupt but I was hoping to talk to Tony about some ideas"
Steve watched Tony face Stephen and watched the soft smile on his mouth.
"Yea just give me a minute wizard"
Stephen rolled his eyes and closed the door leaving them to sit in the awkward silence once more.
"I can't believe you, you're such a hypocrite"
"What the hell are you talking about Steve?"
"You and Stephen! You're getting onto me about me and Sam when you're looking at the doctor like that!"
"How in the hell did this turn to me and Stephen! You cheated on me with Sam and I, like a love struck idiot, am still faithful to you my husband!"
Tony raises his hand to show the wedding right on his left ring finger. And out of anger took off the ring and threw it at the captain. Without another word Tony left to go with the doctor leaving the captain and the ring in that room.
"Ms. Potts can I get your signature right here"
Pepper obliged and quickly signed the piece of paper before walking away with one of her assistants. This time of year was always so busy with new release dates and press conferences. And thanks to Hydra, Pepper was all alone due to Tony focusing on Peter not that she'll complain about that. Tony still sends her his work even being as busy as he is.
"Pepper whenever you're ready just tell me when you're going on lunch"
Pepper smiled and rolled her eyes playfully. Happy will always be so protective. Through and through, she didn't blame him though since she knew that this was just to distract him from the May fiasco.
"I'm done Happy, we can go now"
As usual Happy escorted Pepper to the car before taking her to her favorite place for lunch. Happy had a gut feeling that something just wasn't right, and when he had a gut feeling he would most definitely listen to it especially in his line of work.
"Would you like anything Happy? I'm puttin it on Tony's card so go wild…."
As Pepper continued to talk, Happy looked around and observed his surroundings. As if on cue the building shook and a bomb went off a couple of blocks away from them. People started screaming and Happy instinctively grabbed Pepper and guided her to safety.
"What's happening?!"
"My guess? A crazy person is loose on the city"
Happy saw their car and saw the car explode before he could comprehend it. Their security team was with them before they knew it and was dragged to a different car and soon off to a safe location. But Happy wasn't an idiot. He may be no super genius or whatever but he knew that this was because of Peter. This must be a diversion for the Avengers to come over here. He has to warn Tony. But then the car beside them exploded and caused their car to roll, turn, and flip on their side.
"Sorry to keep you waiting doctor"
"It is no problem Tony"
Strange looked up from his tablet when the man entered the room and noticed the red puffy eyes and tears stained cheeks. He might have to place the captain in the falling dimension for maybe a few hours.
"So what's up doc?"
"I believe that to continue with our aid for Peter we must find out exactly what he went through, I mean the last experiment was a close call and who knows what else Hydra implanted in him"
"Yea but in case you forgot Peter is being very tight lipped"
"In case you forgot, you have the Sorcerer Supreme on your side and the Scarlet Witch. Last time I entered Peters mind my words were garbled up and talking was very difficult but with Wanda it'll go much smoothly"
Tony looked hesitant but nonetheless knew that this was their best bet. He didn't want to violate Peter's privacy but this was their best option.
"Thank you Strange, and I mean for everything that you are doing to help Peter"
Strange looked at the man and gave an honest smile.
"You're welcome-"
"Tony!"
Rhodey seemed to speed walk towards the man looking pale and worried. That was never a good sign.
"What's up platypus?"
"There was a bombing in New York, Pepper and Happy were in the middle of it"
"Are they okay?!"
"We have no idea there has been no contact from any of them but that's not all…"
"We'll don't hold back honey bear, what else is there?!"
"The UN has requested your presence immediately"
Dun dun dun!!! Hope you guys enjoy another chapter!! But I hate to admit that I had so much fuN writing the argument scene between Tony and Steve.
Next time: we'll dive into the UN meeting with Tony while Stephen and Wanda dive into Peter's head to see the horrors of Hydra. We'll also see what happened with Pepper and Happy.
