Summary: Naruto Uchiha. He was transported to Thedas for an unknown reason. All he knows is that this world is much like his where it is kill or be killed. Watch as he reforms his old organization from the ground up.
Chapter 1 Notes: This one might be choppy or jumpy but it gets better, I promise.
Notes: This story starts five years before the 6th Blight but pre Coryphaeus. I need to give Naruto some background.
Naruto Notes: Naruto is a mage because of chakra and copied spells. He is a Rogue because he's a shinobi. FormerANBU!Naruto, godlike!Naruto, EMS!Naruto.
Chapter 1: Captain of the ANBU
Naruto woke up with a groan. His chakra was almost gone and he had no energy to speak of. When he looked around, he noticed he was in a place that looked like Fire Country if it had more rocks and mountains. Odd. He thought. Fire Country had one mountain but no one used it for anything. Not even the ANBU. Nevertheless, he did an equipment check and followed the path that seemed to lead towards a place called the Hinterlands.
The Hinterlands. One of the most dangerous places in the world. It was ravaged ten years ago by the 5th Blight when darkspawn of all kinds erupted from caves in the storm coast. It ended last year. Now you must kill in order to have even the most basic items. The truly heartless lasted longer than most but were always cut down by someone like them sooner or later. Those who didn't have what it takes either died or ended up as slaves. The Hinterlands would never recover; not without a miracle. But they did get a miracle and his name is Naruto Uchiha.
Naruto walked through the slums of Redcliffe with a look of disgust on his face. Three people tried to mug him and ended up lying in a pool of their own blood. He was looking for work but no one had the money. His options were limited. His only specialty was assassination and other kinds of dirty work. But then he had an idea. Almost everyone in Ferelden is a criminal and has some sort of bounty on their heads. If he were to bring in their heads, he would make at least enough to get by.
Naruto walked into a bar and bribed the bartender for information about the local gang. Turns out they weren't much different from Fire Country. Drugs, weapons, human trafficing, murder, the works. There was a 1000 Gold reward for every member killed with the head cut off as proof. They were based out of the bar down the block but loved to come here to harass them for money. The most useful information Naruto's heard all day.
The next day, three bodybuilders with clubs kicked down the door. "Have you got your payment?" The leader demanded.
Naruto sat there like it was none of his business but he had a plan.
The leader sat next to him but Naruto chose to ignore him. "Hey, kid." He nudged Naruto. "Kid." Still nothing. "Answer me, punk!" He was about to punch Naruto but Naruto stabbed him in the gut and the back of the head and then bashed it into the counter; denting it.
Naruto put his demon fox ANBU mask back on. "Leave. And I will not follow." They charged him, thinking they could take him together but they were wrong. They ended up getting their heads bashed against the wall until they were unconditionally. "Would anyone else like their insides used as fresh paint? If so, please, step forward." No one moved. "Yeah, I thought so." Naruto cut their heads off and left the horrified bar.
One week later
A week had passed and Naruto's little stunt all people talked about was how he kicked the shit out of three enforcers from the Shadow Brothers as they were oh so adequately named. Regardless, the entire gang had a standing kill-on-sight order for him.
Let them come. He decided. There was no one strong enough to kill him. Only templars could challenge him in kenjutsu and only the best of mages could last longer than 15 minutes against him before their spells were copied and turned against them. They called him a copy cat and a cheat. A third rate hack. This didn't bother Naruto. If the underworld hates him because he was good at keeping them at bay, then he's doing something right.
It was but days later that a four man hit squad tried to kill him when he left the Gull and Lanteen in the middle of the night. No one knows what happened to them but they're presumed dead. Maker have mercy on their souls because Naruto did not.
Naruto walked into yet another bar in his ANBU gear and all heads turned towards him as he ordered a drink. "Ale. Nothing special." He gave them a blank stare through his mask, causing them to look away. Naruto fidgeted with $20. "I hear you have some information about the Shadow Brothers."
"That I do. For a price."
Naruto activated his eternal mongyko sharingan. "If you're not interested in money, I have other ways of getting information out of people. I can use them if you'd like."
The bartender put his hands up. "I'll take that 20." He took the money and sighed in relief. He leaned in close. "Word is, they've hired some Tevinter mercenaries. Venatori or something like that."
Naruto narrowed his eyes. He'd heard stories of them, but never came across anything solid. "Venatori? Anything I need to know?"
"Yeah. Don't let them cut you. They use blood magic and do insane rituals that almost never go well. I would tell you to get out of town but I'm sure you can handle it. They arrive tomorrow night." Naruto paid for his drink and left. "Hey! Where are you going?"
"To make sure the Venatori never get within a mile of this place."
The next night
Naruto stood behind a tree as 30 Venatori cultists marched towards the village. He needed to do this as quietly as possible lest he attract unwanted attention. Naruto snuck behind the last man and cut his throat with a kunai while putting a hand on his mouth to keep him quiet. Unfortunately, they heard him attack and went to fight back.
Naruto drew his ANBU addition sword and cut the first one in half at the waist. He dropped like a rock. He needed to end this fast so he charged back. He stabbed, slashed, sliced, and diced his way through the Venatori until they were all dead with large stab and slash wounds. But Naruto didn't feel right. Like something was missing.
"Is this enough blood for you?!" A Venatori mage. "It must be! Come forth, demon of pride, and kill this heretic! Feast on his-ak!" The Pride Demon formed from all the blood of the now dead Venatori merc squad and it was the biggest thing he'd ever seen since Madara's Susanoo'.
"Well, shit." Naruto jumped to the side to avoid being a stain on the ground. "So much for keeping quiet." It roared and then laughed evilly as lightning raced between its hands. Nevertheless, Naruto proved why he was captain of the ANBU when he hacked and slashed at the demon's legs faster than the demon could move, let alone hit him. However, he wasn't doing much damage. His ANBU katana wasn't long enough to cut through anything vital other than the neck and even that was a maybe. However, all ANBU blades are chakra conductive.
Naruto was able to cut the left foot clean off with a small application of wind chakra and the wound gushed purple goo. The demon fell face first into the pile of bloodless bodies; down, but nowhere near out. Naruto used this chance to put two high yield explosive tags on the back of its head. Unfortunately, they had a ten second timer. Long enough for the demon to rise onto one knee and aim a lightning ball at him. Naruto didn't panic though. Wind trumps lightning and one slash of his wind sword, the lightning ball was no more. Naruto smirked and held up three fingers. "Three...two...oneā¦" The demon's head was vaporized and everything else above the waist was turned to purple goo and splattered all over the ground. The corpse dissipated into green crystals but the blood remained. Naruto looked down at his pants and cringed. "That's going to take forever to come out.
"What is going on here?!"
Naruto had his mask on so no one could see his face. He answered with an edge to his voice. "Take a guess, mayor. I think the Venatori uniforms and the purple goo should give you a pretty good idea. If you would be so kind as to let me get back to my room so I can bathe, that would be great." Naruto walked past him and his guards before they could say anything. "And someone please clean that up."
The mayor surveyed the carnage before him with narrowed eyes. "He's right. These were Venatori and it looks like they summoned a Pride Demon."
One of his guards didn't understand. "How do you know?"
"Only the Venatori dress in silver and yellow and wear that style of armor. And you see that purple stuff?" The guard nodded and the mayor continued. "Only Pride Demons have purple blood. But for it to come out in the form of goo means that our man was either really skilled and/or unnecessarily vicious." He inspected the dean Venatori and began to think out loud. "No, the cuts are too clean, too lethal. Most of them were dead before or soon after they hit the ground." He pointed to one of the Venatori with a neck wound. "Both arteries in the neck were severed and he was dead in less than 15 seconds."
His other guard sighed and frowned. "What do you think we're dealing with?"
The mayor sighed warily. "Either a demon in human form or the best thing that's happened in Ferelden in a long, long, time."
One week later later
One week later, word had spread about how 30 Venatori tried to kill him in the dead of night but were killed quickly and efficiently. And how they summoned a Pride Demon but even that wasn't enough. The bodies were connected to Naruto once more but this one was special. It got him a spot in the Fereldan Blacklist as a B-rank. They called him Pride's Folly for how he killed 30 Venatori zealots and their demon.
Naruto scoffed at that. 'B-rank? Either their expectations are way too high or the people in charge aren't willing to acknowledge that Venatori almost infiltrated the capital of Ferelden..' He smirked. 'Then I guess I'll just have to do something they'll have to acknowledge.'
He already had a few ideas. Apostate hunting, rogue templar hunting, hunting rogue darkspawn, the works. That thought gave way to another realization. He needed some sort of signature. A way to say, I did this without actually saying it and the above average number of corpses didn't count. He had a hard time deciding as his options were rather limited. Explosives were too lethal and might kill or maim someone who he can't afford to have as an enemy but custom knives were too subtle.
'Knives.' That gave him an idea. Whenever he killed someone from an organization, he would slash their symbol with a kunai. That would be his calling card until the day he died.
One week later, Gull and Lanteen
As usual, Naruto drank alone in the back of the room through his ANBU mask and tried not to be noticed. In a shady tavern like this, no one would bother him unless they either had a death wish or needed him for a job. He already got the information he needed so there was no point in sticking around but his gut told him to hang around for a while.
Listening to his instincts paid off when a young woman nervously approached him. "E-e-excuse me?"
His interest peaked but he didn't show it. "May I help you?"
"W-w-we need help dealing with some unruly customers. We can pay you if need be."
"I see. Anyone in particular?"
"He's not here yet. He usually arrives in about five minutes."
"I see. I will kill these unruly customers and in exchange, you must spread the word that I'm looking for a job Deal?"
The woman nodded. "I will. Thank you."
"Of course."
True enough, three ugly thugs walked in and demanded service. By law, the poor waitresses had to refuse him and tell them to wait. Instead of waiting they grabbed their wrists. "Come on lasses. All we want is a little taste."
The girls slapped the thugs and they got really angry. The leader reached to grab the woman but a shuriken cut his wrist clean open. Naruto slowly walked over for intimidation. "That's a pretty bad cut there. And in a bad spot too." Naruto grabbed the bleeding wrist. "The Ulnar vein. You have three minutes before you pass out and five minutes before you die of blood loss. There's a hospital two minutes away if you run and put pressure on it. So I suggest you get moving." This only served to anger the man but when he tried to take Naruto's mask off, he got his throat slashed with a kunai before anyone could blink. "I severed his jugular. He'll bleed out in 20 seconds or less."
Naruto pointed the weapon at the other two. "Leave. Now. And do not return." Like the idiots they were, they tried to draw their swords but they got their throats cut as well. Naruto looked at his clothes in annoyance. They were soaked in blood. "Come on. I just got the demon blood of yesterday." He looked at the three dead bodies on the ground. "Will someone please clean this up?" He left behind a very stunned and very bloody tavern.
Two months later, Haven's Chantry
Three women sat around a giant table with a world map and argued over the latest problem in Thedas. Naruto Uchiha or Pride's Folly as his Blacklist entry states. They were the Divine and her Left and Right Hands.
Her right hand was particularly vocal. "This man is a threat, Lady Justinia."
"First of all; why? Second of all; isn't he just a B-Rank?" Asked Divine Justinia V.
Lilliana, the Left hand frowned and sighed sadly. "He was upgraded to A-Rank when left the bodies of three rogue templars and four mage abominations turned up at the morgue a few days ago."
Cassandra, the Right Hand, scoffed. "All of them had deep sword wounds and their symbols and banners slashed through as well. " She hit the table. "This man is a threat that needs to be eliminated!"
Lilliana looked at her like she was stupid. "And what would you have us do? Send an army after him? That man is a ghost. The only way to find him is to say that you're looking for him. And even then, he checks to see if the job's legit."
"And if it's not?" Asked the Divine.
"We have yet to find out. Either because he's really careful or no one has tried to trap him yet."
"What do we do, then? Give him a legitimate job and hope he doesn't tell anyone?!" Yelled Cassandra.
Justinia and Lilliana narrowed their eyes but Lilliana spoke first. "That's...not a terrible idea. And I wouldn't worry about him ratting us out. If this man can get out of abomination rat holes and rogue templar encampments without anyone knowing anything after killing someone important, then he can easily get into the Chantry. If he wanted to make all of us look weak, he would have done so."
Justinia nodded. "That makes sense. Lilliana, you will track down an enemy of the Chantry and then advertise that we'll pay 20,000 Gold for whoever brings us the man's head."
"You want to unite our enemies, allies, and potential allies as well." Lilliana smirked. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Very clever my lady." She looked at the map. "While those two factions are busy killing each other, what will we do?"
"Monitor them. We are the "neutral party" in this. When this is over, give him the money so we don't have the most skilled assassin since Lilliana's mother kicking down our door." She looked her Left Hand in the eyes. "This cannot come back to us. Let the people come up with their own conclusions but don't let any solid evidence slip through the cracks."
"Understood."
"Cassandra. Do not provoke him. We cannot afford to have him leak something we don't want him to.
Cassandra's eyes burned with rage. "Then what about all the mages and templars he's killed?!"
"Targets. He's a hired assassin. It's what they do" Cassandra tried to say more but Justinia stopped her. "That'll be all, Seeker. Dismissed." They left the room to prepare for the risk they were about to take.
Much better than the first one. Tell me what you think in the review section. I know it's choppy but I'm not good at getting stories started. I promise it'll get better soon. As in chapter three at the latest.
