Long time no see...
Concerning the new movie and my opinion. It's complete and utter garbage. The writing was weak and there were a lot of stupid and unnecessary crap including Steve being pregnant. I hatted how it was ended and am thoroughly dissapointed with the downhill slope the story took after the first few episodes of wizards!
If you would like a more in depth analysis, I will post one to my bio in a few days! One of the reasons I am a fan fiction writer is to change the parts I don't like.
I'm still happy with how my story is turning out and this is one of my favorite chapters, as well as the hilarious bonus at the end.
Let The Chaos Ensue...
Chapter 6: Win Lose or Draal
The conversation about the bridge and changelings was fairly the same, and he hadn't pitched much in. him moving the tarp did nothing for the picture and as they were walking out of the pub, bumping into Draal on the way out.
"Well, if it isn't the piece of flesh I'll pound into pancakes tomorrow. I look forward to your pain, and I will drink to your death."
He walked over to Draal and stood by his side. Smiling at the panic that ensued.
"Death?! Wha… what is he talking about, I thought this was just a rematch." He spun on his heel and pointed an angry finger at his future self. "You said no one would die!"
Draal and the others turned to look at him, he only bent over laughing. "Has anyone ever told you how gullible you are? Blinkey, what is in chapter three of A Brief Recapitulation Of Troll Lore: Vol. 47?"
"Well, the main point of the chapter is to talk about a trolls honor, and how to challenge it can only end in death. Wait… you still haven't read the book." he glared at human Jim.
"Jim, what did I tell you during the gnome fiasco?" he asked himself.
"To study troll history," he mumbled.
"That's right. Now maybe you'll actually do the reading from now on," he smirked.
Draal bust out laughing. "That is clever, Dagen. Now, I insist this time. Come have a drink with me.
"Wait, wait, wait, hold on. This fight…" his younger self stopped when an obsidian and red blade buried itself in the stone directly next to Jim's head.
"Stop what you're saying right now, unless you want to anger him," troll Jim said in a low growl as he removed the glaive from the wall and 'put it back in his pocket'. "Learn respect for everyone, Jim."
Draal glared at the group of trollhunters. "Say goodbye to your loved ones, they will want an explanation as to your untimely demise," he said and marched off, troll Jim following.
They sat down at an empty table and Draal ordered for them both.
"Can I ask you a question, Draal?"
"But of course," he replied.
"Your father," he said slowly. "He was good friends with both Arg and Blinkey. I understand why you don't like the humans, being short sighted, weak and such in all their fleshbag glory," he laughed slowly.
Was he acting, no. Because this is how he'd began feeling after spending time as a troll. It probably wasn't the best mentality, but it was his. "But why are you so hard on Blinkey and Arg?"
He gave a low moan and waited a moment to answer until both had their glug. "My father… he was a great warrior. One of the greatest trollhunters to ever live. He pushed me away, he didn't want me in danger. But I rarely saw him over the decades that he was the Trollhunter. He spent more time with them than he did me." He sighed and took a long swig of glug.
The younger looked inside his mug, swirling the green liquid inside. After a thought he barked. "Draal the deadly, jealous of a historian and a pacifist."
"What? How dare you accuse me of such…" His eyes darted around. "Petty… a petty thing… fine, I'm jealous of the relationship they had with my father." He said it quickly, sounding so small for the giant he was.
"It's fine Draal, everyone is entitled to some amount of pettiness," he smiled. Once again staring at his mug.
"And I suppose, I can ask a question," Draal said.
"Go ahead."
"You told the fleshbag Jim that no one would die during our match, is it knowledge of the future, or were you really just poking at his lack of knowledge of our culture?"
He took a deep breath, looking into the eyes of his 'brother'. "You know, the more I'm here, the less certain the future seems. Some things are the way they should be, and others are starting to change. But I do know this, whatever happens tomorrow, I'll be there for you when it's over."
"Victor or pile of stone?" Draal laughed.
"And anything else you may wind up," he tilted his head down slightly in a nod.
"Dagen, you have not yet drank any of your glug," Draal noted.
"No, I guess I haven't."
"Why?"
"Well, I've never actually had it before," He smiled and looked up at the shocked face of his friend.
"Alright then, drink some," he commanded.
Jim took an uneasy glance at the mug before shrugging and taking a large gulp.
He didn't know what was in it, but it was good. Almost as good as it smelled. It had the tang of iron, like blood. And a slight salty taste, like old socks… yes they tasted good to him. He could taste several other things in this specific batch, and wondered how many ingredients Glug used in her brew. Didn't really matter though, because all he knew or cared about was that it was delicious.
He took another gulp and slammed the mug down. "Dang that's good stuff."
His tongue licked at his maw and he smiled widely, Draal laughing at his reaction.
"You are a strange troll, you know that?"
Jim rolled his eyes, but nodded, smile falling from his face. "Yeah, I know it."
"I apologize, I didn't mean to offend…"
"It's fine Draal. I know I'm different," he moaned.
"Though, it is not a bad thing," Draal said. "I have never met another troll like you. Nor do I expect to. I'm glad to call you my friend, Dagen."
"Me too, Draal." He finished his glug and stood. "Now, I have to go make sure that the human isn't going to be an idiot."
"He challenged me, it's too late for that," Draal laughed. And Jim did the same.
"Alright then, I've got to make sure he's not being more of an idiot."
He wasn't necessarily going out to check on himself, he wanted to see his mom. But he never actually made it there.
On his way to the house, he ran into an awaiting Noumora.
"Hello child," she cooed.
"Nomura, what do you want?" he snarled.
"How do you know my name?" She hissed.
"I asked you first, I have things to be doing."
"I came to ask you a question," she said.
"Then ask."
"If you didn't want me to take the amulet from the human at the museum, the first time. Why did you let me actually attack him last night?" She looked genuinely confused, an odd color on her. "Don't think I didn't notice you, you're not as stealthy as you think," she gave a small laugh.
"I wasn't trying to be stealthy," Jim said flatly. "And as for the human… let's just say, I have an agenda I wish to keep. And as do you, you have a meeting with Strickler at the museum."
"What?" She said, surprised. Then her phone buzzed and she looked at the message from Strickler, asking to meet her at the museum. "How did you know?" Nomoura hissed.
He laughed and walking backward past her, spreading his arms wide and grinning. "You told me, of course," laughing darkly, he disappeared into the shadows.
Quickly, he made his way to his bedroom window. Peeking in to make sure everything was going right. According to plan, he was looking over the large book, using the amulet to translate it for him.
Great, now I'm bored.
Sleep sounded like a great idea
"So if we do get hit…"
"When, we get hit," he interrupted Aja.
"When we get hit, how do we get back?"
"Oh, it's simple. For me at least, I just cast a spell, and I come back. That's what happened last time I fought him, remember." Douxie said.
"Yeah, sure." Krell said. "But what about us?"
"Oh, well. It's a bit more complicated for you guys. You've got to…"
An explosion off in the distance went off, interrupting the emo wizard, and causing the group to disperse.
…
"Fight from your heart, Master Jim!"
That was something he heard. But what he hadn't heard.
"It's stronger than any rock, and certainly stronger than mine." He almost choked on his breath.
Always, he always knew Blinkey believed in him. But to this extent, from the very start. How did he not know?
He walked over to Blinkey, placing his hand on his shoulder and spoke. "Don't worry, no one dies today," he nodded reassuringly.
Blinkey looked at him, confused. "You said the same thing to him, but wasn't that a ploy to get him to study? Which worked, by the way."
"No ploy. It's the truth, even if I have to step in. No one dies today," the troll looked out on the arena as the platform raised.
The fight began, and Jim was thrown into the wall. Then, as Draal came barreling toward him after a bought of gloating, the human threw the sword at him. Effectively stopping him.
"I didn't teach him that. Did you?"
"He's a natural!"
The older self smiled and leaned against the gate with his arms and legs crossed. "Keep going, you've got this," he whispered.
He tried to throw the sword again, only for Draal to deflect it.
"And… there goes that move."
Troll Jim laughed to himself. He watched Jim run around screaming, and listened to Blinkey.
"Ten whole seconds, he's not dead. That's a fortuated sign."
"Don't jinx," Arg replied.
"The only thing that could jinx this is time, Arg," he said. Causing the other three to wonder what he meant while watching the match comece.
Jim formed his shield of energy, then got thrown to the platform once again. After getting kicked off, Draal stalked forward. He saw the worry his pack had for him at the time, and it just hurt him to see it now.
With worry and panic, Toby screamed. "He's getting killed, do something! Forget being a pacifist, save Jim."
"He cannot, this is his fight."
Draal came down, laughing. And came forward, preparing to end the fight.
The half troll watched calmly, right about now his younger human self would turn around and kick Draal in the gronk-nucks.
Right about now… now…
But Jim didn't.
He got tense, digging his claws into the large metal gate. Leaving deep, overly noticeable gashes in the ore.
Draal marched forward, Jim moaned and rolled onto his back, trying to get up too late. Only to face his seemingly impending doom. The son of the fallen Trollhunter placed his foot on Jim's chest and began pressing down. The human cried out in pain, the sound of his ribs breaking in the half troll's ears.
The older Jim snarled, and dashed forward as Toby had done minutes before. And Arg grabbed him by the scruff, pulling him back. He roared and rammed him in the chest, sending him back.
He marched with purpose outside the gate and stood in a wide stance, pulling his arm back as if to throw a frisbee and launched his shield. He put all his strength into the thow, and when it made contact with its target he stumbled back a few feet.
Also upon contact, he made it disappear, then let himself be dragged back into the confines of the tunnel by Blinkey.
The trolls watching, didn't actually know what had happened. One moment, they saw Draal about to kill the Trollhunter. The next, a red flash knocked him back. Though Vendal was much more observant.
"What were you thinking?! Did you not hear what I told Tobias not two minutes ago?" Blinkey scolded. Just like a father.
Jim snarled back. "And did you not hear what I told you. Nobody dies today."
He turned back to the fight. After he hit Draal with the shield, Jim implemented rule number three and the rest played out as he remembered.
…
"Hey Blink, you might want to go stop him from spilling everything," he said. Pushing him toward the arena. When he tried to ask about what he only shook his head. "The idiot doesn't get that us trolls are stubborn in our ways."
"And what are you going to do here?"
"Make sure my friend is ok," he nodded reassuringly.
Blinkey smiled. "I don't know about you, but for some reason, I feel we are not deserving of you."
He only smiled and nodded, because what could he say to that?
Draal came lumbering forward, and he walked with him in silence to the gyre station.
"You knew," was all he said.
"I did."
"But you attacked me? Don't think I didn't see it."
"I did."
"Why?"
He took a deep breath, pulling on his horn, thinking of a way he could put it without telling him everything.
"Time is a difficult thing to control. And when someone messes with time. They screw it up. Things aren't playing out as they should, and I'm making sure they do."
"What role do you play in this?" Draal asked.
"Before? I was the center of this. Now, I'm just trying to get home."
Draal chose not to comment on his friend's words, and instead asked a different question. "If you know of the future, tell me. Where do I go from here?"
He smiled. "I was hoping you'd ask that. You need to make your way to Jim's house. I won't tell you why, but that is where you need to go."
Draal looked annoyed, but nodded. "If you say that is were I must go. Then I will trust you. I will see you again, won't I?"
Troll Jim nodded. "Sooner than you think."
He let Draal leave by his own means and left himself to get tacos with Toby. He headed straight for his home and waited. As he expected, Nomura's car was out front, though unexpectedly, she was not in the house.
His ears twitched and in a split second, he spun around and had his daggers at the changelings throat. "Noumora," he growled her name as if it was the third time he told a child not to do something.
"Nuisance," she cooed back in her human form.
He glared and let his glaives dissipate, slightly shocking her.
"What do you want?"
"I wanted to let you know, I'm going to kill the Trollhunter tonight." She grinned as if her taunts could make him bend.
"Good for you," he said while rolling his eyes.
"What? You're not going to stop me?"
"No, why should I?" He shrugged with a simple smile.
Nomoura blinked, once, twice. "You confuse me."
"I confuse everyone here, don't feel special. Now, go carry out whatever sadistic plan you had in place. And stop bugging me," he gave a slight snarl.
She rolled her eyes and walked away, Jim hid on the roof of the house across the street to watch. And wondered how the hell, none of his neighbors ever noticed what went on at his house. In hindsight, they didn't hide it well from people out of direct personal relations.
Jim came home, Noumora attacked. Draal threw her into the middle of the woods and settled into the basement. When the human went up to his room after cleaning up the mess, he found the strange troll waiting.
"You knew."
"I know a lot, you'll have to be more specific."
"You knew I wouldn't kill him, and you knew I'd win. That's why you said no one would die during our match."
He nodded and smiled. "Yeah, but it got you to read the book. And the information in the book helped you win, didn't it?"
"I guess, but still. You also saved me, didn't you? That flash of red?" Jim sat down on his bed and shrugged off his jacket.
"I did. You didn't get up soon enough so I had to give you the time to improvise."
"Alright, but you're Draal's friend. But you protect me, only sometimes. Turn on Toby and I at random moments, and let a changeling attack me and my mom," blue human eyes glared at the hybrid's. "I don't get it. Do you want me dead or alive?"
"I have your best interest at heart, more than you know. Trust me," his eyes were so familiar to his younger self.
"But how can I trust someone, who I know nothing about. Not even your name."
He walked over to the window and slipped halfway out. "Call me Dagen." He disappeared wearing the kind of smile that could make the devil sell his soul. And began a quick patrol of the woods and Arcadia.
…
Bonus:
While doing a quick scan of the forest, he found a disgruntled, bloodied, and bruised Nomura. As she walked passed he stood and leaned against a tree, resting the flat of one foot against it with arms crossed across his chest.
Smiling, and eyes twinkling as she walked passed.
"How did killing the trollhunter go?" he asked calmly.
She turned and glared at him, though it had no effect.
The fact that it had no effect only made her more angry and frustrated.
"I hate Draal, I hate the trollhunter, and I hate you."
"Well, if I'm lucky. Maybe then you'll stay away from me." He walked forward, crossing his arms behind his waist and stalking around her. "If I'm lucky," he said. "But I'm never lucky, so… see you later."
He then jumped back into the trees and disappeared from her sight. Leaving her to herself.
