Surprised to see a new Doug story up? Yeah, I decided to expand on a little bit of an idea I had in an earlier story I wrote called 'An Accidental Kiss', so in a way, it's a semi-sequel, but at the same time, it's sort of its own story. And yes, it'll no doubt be a Doug x Connie story, to a degree. And just so we're clear, only the first and final chapters will take place in Bluffington, the meat of the story will be a Quailman story! With that, take a seat and relax! Anyway, enjoy!

Another hot day, another moment in the life of Bluffington. Even in this town, the summer heat can prove too much for even the most sanest of people. Fortunately, people have found a few ways to beat the heat, and at the current moment, staying in a well air-conditioned home, humming to herself as she was practicing her guitar was a heavy-set green skinned girl with purple hair, singing to herself as she paused, before writing down some musical notes on a sheet. She gave a small nod as she strummed along with the notes... before wincing when she got to the last note. She erased the note and moved it up a space on the sheet music. She tried again, this time, feeling satisfied with the result.

"Gee, this is going to be a good one for sure..." Connie Benge said to herself as she gave a small smile, before hearing a knock on the door. Her face immediately perked up as she put her guitar aside and started to head out of her room and towards the door. "Coming, coming!"

As soon as Connie reached the door, she peeked outside, just in time to see Doug Funnie standing by the door, waiting patiently as he crossed his arms, wearing a light blue backpack. Her heart skipping twice, she looked at herself in the side mirror before adjusting her hair a bit. Giving a nod, she opened the door, a small, simple smile on her face. "Doug, hey!"

The young boy returned the smile with his own as he gave a small blush. "Hey, Connie. Are you ready?"

"With you, of course." Connie smiled as she grabbed the boy's hand. "How's everything gone down with the family?"

"Well, you know Judy." Doug said as he rolled his eyes, both of them walking off before closing the door. "Always being so melodramatic... but she likes the idea that I'm shifting my interests."

"Awww, how sweet." The heavy-set girl giggled as she pulled Doug close.

Doug couldn't help but give a small sigh. It had been quite a long while since Doug and Connie had gotten together after the school dance near the end of the year, and the change of relationship was actually for the better. That accidental kiss back in the music room proved to be a good thing, not only for Connie, who had the largest crush on Doug the moment she laid eyes on him, but for Doug, who had started to see Connie in a rather new light. The more they started to hang out and got to know each other, the more they felt closer together. Even Roger Klotz, the residential bully, had no choice but to back off and admit that Funnie and Benge were pretty cute... though he still makes snide remarks when they weren't around.

Doug had just recently came back from his summer trip and the first thing he did when he got back was to call Connie and ask her out to a small date, which she of course, agreed to in a heartbeat. As they walked, Connie talked about how her summer went on extremely well, with her telling her parents that she was proud of the way she looked, even if she can admit to being chubby. It took guts on her end, but she managed to convince her parents pretty well. She did, of course, agree to cut back on the sugar, as a fair compromise.

And of course, Doug told her about his family trip as Connie raised an eyebrow, looking rather interested.

"No way! Your dad ACTUALLY ran the car into the mud?" The green heavy-set girl gave a gasp.

Doug nodded. "To be fair, part of it was me and Judy, for being selfish with our stops. But it all worked out the same, because we did pull the car out on our own, and we did manage to get to the Great Painted Gorge on time for the sunrise. I did learn a good lesson that day."

"Yeah, don't read every billboard you come across and beg to go to those stops." Connie smirked.

The green wearing boy looked over to his girlfriend with a frown. "I was going to say that even the simplest things can bring us closer together as a family, but I suppose your idea works."

Connie giggled as she and Doug had arrived at their destination, Lucky Duck Lake. The two looked at each other, giving small smiles and silent nods to each other.

Both of them sat near the edge of the lake, their socks and shoes off as they tapped their feet in the lake, giving small sighs of relaxation.

"It feels so good to soak your feet after walking in them for a while, isn't it, Doug?" Connie asked, turning to her boyfriend.

"I guess you can say that..." Doug smiled as he looked around the area, seemingly in thought.

This did not go unnoticed by the green skinned heavyset girl. "Something on your mind, sweetheart?"

Doug blushed a bit at the pet name. "I was just examining the area, thinking about ideas for my next story..."

"Oh yes, you did say you were writing one of your little superhero comic stories. How's it turning out so far?" Connie asked.

Doug paused as he couldn't help but give a small blush. "You're curious?"

Connie giggled. "Why wouldn't I be, Doug? Skeeter tells me that you've made this little superhero named Quailman."

The young man made eye contact with his girlfriend as he gave a smile, "Well... you know me. When you have an idea for a character, you can put them in many scenarios..."

"I can see..." Connie giggled as she noted the backpack. "So, any reason you have that backpack on you? I don't suppose you have a copy of one of your comics?"

Doug yelped, before giving a blush. "Well... I have, but... uh..."

"Well, come on, then. Let me see." Connie opened her hand and motioned for Doug to open the backpack.

Doug stammered for a moment, trying to find a good situation, acting nervous, but the cute looking eyes belonging to Connie convinced him otherwise. He gave a small sigh as he took off the backpack and unzipped it before pulling out the comic and handing it to the girl. "This is still a work in progress, but leaf through it and tell me what you-"

Connie had opened the page, only to stop short as she raised an eyebrow. She then started to read the first panel's words...

"When last we left Quailman and his sidekick, Quaildog, they were in the midst of stopping the evil Dr. Klotzenstein from changing the minds of the people to make him ruler of the universe. But on the way, Quailman meets up with the lady superhero of his life, a girl who can stop crime and flirt with the Quailman, making his heart a flutter..." Connie squinted a bit. "The Bovine Beauty?"

"Oh no..." Doug slapped his forehead in embarrassment as Connie looked at the panel with a picture of the aforementioned 'Bovine Beauty', a girl who was similar to Connie herself, but wearing a cowboy hat, a vest and shirt combo with a skirt that seemed to be decorated in dots, along with cowboy boots. It hasn't been colored in yet, but Connie didn't care as she raised an eyebrow.

"Did... did you put me in the story?" Connie asked in bewilderment.

Doug bit his lip. "It sort of happened during the time I was arguing with my feelings... it came to me in a dream, I swear!"

Connie said nothing, but continued to look at the picture, before giving a giggle. "Man, am I good-looking as a super-heroine." She gave a whistle. "So, she's Quailman's superhero super-hot girlfriend?"

Doug blushed a bit in embarrassment. "Well, technically, she comes in and helps Quailman with a problem he can't fix sometimes, she flirts with him, and then disappears without another word. I established in my universe that Quailman has a crush on the Bovine Beauty, but I haven't gotten that far into development yet."

Connie giggled as she leaned over and kissed Doug on the cheek. "You're a sweetie, Doug Funnie. Never change who you are."

The boy looked rather surprised as he turned to the giggling girl. Just hearing that giggle alone made him relaxed as Connie handed Doug the comic. "So, what's the backstory on Bovine Beauty? Who exactly is she?"

"Uh... well... I haven't actually... got that far with the character, admittingly. I know she's a superhero, and I know Quailman likes her... but beyond that..." Doug paused as he looked nervous.

"So, haven't thought of a decent backstory for her, huh?" Connie paused, as she gave a grin. "Hey... why don't I help you provide a good backstory for Bovine Beauty?"

Doug shook his head in shock. "Really?"

"Why not?" Connie shrugged. "After all, how hard can thinking up a backstory for a character be? Let's give Bovine Beauty a little character! You got some drawing paper on you?"

The boy paused before pulling out of his backpack some paper and a pencil as he gave a nod. "Got it right here."

"Then prepare to write something down, because I want to see what I can do to give the origin story... of Bovine Beauty... the girlfriend of Quailman." Connie giggled as she looked up, Doug starting to write as he listened to his girlfriend's beautiful voice. "The story begins with the birth of our heroine, which goes without saying..."

And that's the first chapter done! How did you guys like it? Next time, we'll be going straight into the origin story of Bovine Beauty! Anyway, read, review, criticize and suggest, folks!
