I was intending to do more with this story, but then I figured, "Nah, I think this amount is enough", so here's the final chapter of this story! For those who expected more, I apologize, but what you're reading is what you're getting. Besides, this isn't supposed to be a dramatic story that has 'muhahahaha' villains ruining the fun, it's supposed to be a sweet story about two unlikely kids connecting with each other and falling in love. Also, just a quick announcement.
I've been going around some Dexter's Laboratory videos on YouTube (ones that didn't get the 'For Kids Only' block on the comments yet) and I couldn't help but notice that my story got copied-pasted in a video's comments section by someone known as 'Marcelo Medeiros'... to that guy... screw you, dude! If you want to promote the story, recommend it to friends with a LINK to the story, don't go through the trouble of copying and pasting someone's hard work and putting it all down in the comments! It's rude, it's inconsiderate, and it downright craps on the person who actually wrote this! If you want to do a dramatic reading with riffs or review the story online, that's fine, I have no qualms with that... but to copy and paste a person's story in the comments section of someone's video is just... scummy!
That aside, let's move on to the final chapter of this story and see how well Dexter and Lee Lee get together! Anyway, enjoy!
It was a while later, as both Dexter and Lee Lee were walking right through the park, holding hands together, that the young girl finally spoke. "Dexter, why exactly are we going into the park at night fall? A bit dangerous and risky to go out and walk alone, don't you think?"
Dexter could only give a smirk. "You don't need to worry." In the corner of his eye, he spotted a couple of shady characters eying the area. Getting suspicious, he pulled out a small laser gun and shot it towards the two shady characters' directions, freezing them in place as only their eyes were moving. "I got the situation under control. Now come on, let's keep going. There's something I want you to see..."
Lee Lee paused in confusion, but played along with the notion as they kept walking through the park. After a few more steps, Dexter stopped, with Lee Lee nearly tripping into him, but the young boy could only catch her before she could fall directly on to the ground. The girl couldn't help but blush as she gave a giggle. "I bet you always wanted to have a girl fall into your arms, didn't you, Dex?"
Dexter blushed a bit. "Maybe. Now, if you can just turn to where I'm facing and look up..."
Lee Lee got up as she followed Dexter's line of sight as she slightly looked up at the starry sky. After a moment, she heard a whistling sound coming from above, followed by a crackling sound as red sparks started to fly. Following not too long after were more sparks of different colors, exploding and whistling abound as they decorated the skies.
"Fireworks..." Lee Lee's eyes sparkled in delight as she sat down next to the young boy.
Dexter could only smirk. "I studied a lot on the Japanese culture and learned about a very interesting history on fireworks... that they were used to ward evil spirits, but are now custom traditions for summer holidays."
"I knew there was a reason why I liked the Fourth of July." Lee Lee giggled.
"Actually, Lee Lee, the Fourth of July, though known well for fireworks, is more of an American holiday." Dexter said as another firework whistled up and exploded in the sky, this time, purple sparks coming up.
"Oh, I know. I'm just messing with you, Dexter." Lee Lee giggled as she ruffled up Dexter's hair with her hand.
The boy looked slightly annoyed, before giving a small sigh. "Anyway, these fireworks, or hanabi as it's called in Japan, were used in the mid-18th century to honor the dead that have passed due to poverty in those nations. It became more of a yearly tradition until today, when they held a firework festival known as the Sumida River Firework Festival."
Lee Lee was wowed by Dexter's history as she looked back towards the fireworks, another popping up, this time a winking face appearing in the form of fireworks that looked similar to hers popping out as the sparks flew off. Lee Lee continued to watch in amazement as Dexter pulled out a small CD player walkman out of his pocket and turned on the CD, playing the song "Hanabi" by Maiko Fujita. As the quiet serene grace of the song played with the singer belting out the Japanese lyrics, Lee Lee turned to Dexter as she raised an eyebrow, before the boy gave a small smile. "Uh, would you like this dance?"
Lee Lee could only return a smile as she gripped Dexter's hand. "Of course, Dexter. I'd love to..."
Silence fell afterwards as the two proceeded to dance the night away, only the music and the erupting fireworks sounding off in the background as both Dexter and Lee Lee twirled and tangoed together, before eventually evolving into a slow dance. Normally, Dexter was not a big fan of dancing, especially after experiencing his sister's... way of dancing, but he was willing to make an exception for Lee Lee. The young, Japanese girl giggled as she picked up Dexter as the two stared into each other's eyes...
It wasn't long before they leaned towards each other and kissed... as they did so, little did they know was that the fireworks that came out afterwards had a message spelled out, saying "I love you". Whether Dexter had arranged it himself or some other couple that was supposed to see it, it was a mystery, but it was that moment in their lives as both boy and girl were starting to feel different towards each other.
As soon as they separated from the kiss, Dexter stammered a bit, before adjusting his glasses. "W-wow. That was just..."
Lee Lee licked her lips, before laughing happily. "I don't think I'll ever forget this moment..."
"Lee Lee, I..." Dexter smiled. "I think I'm beginning to understand you in my own way..."
"And I'm starting to understand you, my little Encyclopedia." Lee Lee giggled. Dexter raised an eyebrow as Lee Lee explained, "Because you love to explain things and you're always on the money at times. Thus, my Encyclopedia. It's my nickname for you."
Dexter couldn't help but smirk as he held Lee Lee close. "Then let me give you your own nickname... one I personally picked out for you..."
"What's that?" Lee Lee asked.
"Angel..." Dexter whispered as he leaned close to her ear. "Because you are like my guardian angel, in one form or another, understanding, but firm."
Lee Lee giggled as she once again gave Dexter a small kiss, with Dexter returning the kiss for a few seconds before separating. "You're a sweetie, Dexter. A genius and a sweetie."
The young boy genius could only blush as they stared into each other's eyes, the song coming to an end and the fireworks show about to draw to its close. All the while, the two shady characters were still frozen in their spot, not moving as they were internally screaming.
"Man, do I have to pee..." One of the shady characters thought to himself.
It wasn't until nine o'clock that Dexter had arrived back home, feeling refreshed and nice as he walked through the door. His parents, who were sitting in front of the TV, looked up as they turned to Dexter.
"Well, well, well, look who came home?" Dexter's dad could only give a grin.
"My little man..." Dexter's mom smiled happily before scooping him up in his arms and hugging him tightly before letting go.
"So, who's the lucky lady, Dexter?" Dexter's dad asked, making Dexter snap out of his funk as he looked up.
"Huh?" Dexter blinked.
"Oh, don't worry, Dexter. We figured you were leaving in such a hurry that you might have been seeing a girl. We don't judge." Dexter's mom smiled.
Dexter's dad could only give a laugh. "You don't have to tell us right away, son, but we would love to meet her."
"Well... I will say it's somebody you know..." Dexter said with a shy smile.
Dee Dee, who had been spying from the stairs, popped up and pointed to Dexter. "Ha ha! You WERE seeing someone! I knew it!"
The young boy genius could only yawn a bit as he looked up at the clock. "I'd love to talk about how my date went, but... I'm getting a little tired. If it's all the same with you, I think I'd like to go to bed."
"Well, it is a little after your bedtime, so, all right." Dexter's mom smiled as the young boy started to leave. "But we WOULD like to discuss that girl with you."
"I know, I know..." Dexter yawned as he walked up the stairs, past Dee Dee, who looked rather annoyed.
"Come on, Dexter, this is no fair! At least tell me her name!" Dee Dee complained.
Dexter stopped for a moment as he looked over at Dee Dee with tired eyes. For a moment, he thought about just saying the name of the girl he was seeing just to see the reaction she would have if she knew that he was dating Dee Dee's best friend. "You know what? I think I will tell you her name..."
Dee Dee's eyes lit up as Dexter opened up his bedroom door. "In the morning."
With that, Dexter slammed the door and locked it up, causing Dee Dee to still hold the expression she had, a large smile and her arms held out.
After a moment, Dee Dee slumped as she gave a groan. "Why did I not see that coming?"
As Dexter started to change into his pajamas to get ready for bed, he thought back to the small, but pretty fun date he had with Lee Lee. From the sushi restaurant, to the fireworks show, to dancing under the stars... and finally, the kiss. That kiss would be a scientific explanation that he figured was better left unexplained. He snuggled into his bed, dreaming not only of science... but also of the young woman that would eventually grow up in the future to be not only his beautiful lab assistant, but if things went right, his wife for many years to come...
Orange Ratchet Story
"That's All, Folks!"
An Orange-Ratchet Fanfiction
And that is that for this story! How did you guys like it? And now, final thoughts!
Okay, I know that this isn't the long story you all expected, and I know one of you wanted to see Mandark get involved, but that wasn't what the story is supposed to be about. Like I said, it's mainly about Dexter and Lee Lee having a small date and having a good time. Not all of Dexter's adventures have to be this epic science adventure that Dexter's normally known for. Don't get me wrong, I love those episodes, but it's nice to have a little slice-of-life story every once in a while, you know?
That being said, it was nice to write up a Dexter x Lee Lee story again, and even though it's just one date, I think I managed to capture how two opposites would eventually be attracted to each other. A nice little slice-of-life romance, with occasional comedy... that's what I like to write. Well, hope you guys enjoyed this short story as much as I did! Anyway, thank you all for reading, and have a very wonderful day!
