I don't own Twilight.
The cafeteria wasn't big, but it was big enough for the students of Forks.
I made my way to one of the tables, not bothering to get any lunch, considering I already ate at home. After all, I only ate once a day.
I went to one of the farthest tables of the cafeteria, making sure to avoid everyone.
As I crossed the cafeteria, I noticed the table where Eric sat.
His table was full of jocks and girls. Two of the girls at his table looked like the type of girls I met in the previous schools I've attended. Those types of girls tend to laugh at others' misfortune or do something annoying. I only hope that I was mistaken because those girls tend to mess everything up for me.
The jocks at the table are the same ones that leered at me earlier. The two boys were having a fun time, but Mike held his forehead from time to time, touching it with the bandages covering it. He seemed to be telling a story to the two girls that only looked like trouble.
I saw Eric talking with three boys while holding a camera. The boys seemed interested in his talk. Eric seemed to enjoy his time with them until Mike started to take the camera from his hands.
Eric looked annoyed but plastered a fake grin on his face.
It was then a girl sat down next to him, putting a hand on his shoulder.
Unlike the other girls, she appeared to be kind. His purple glasses suited her eyes. Her long dark hair is in a ponytail. She comforted Eric as she spoke to Mike.
Before I turned away, I noticed how one of Eric's friends looked at the girl with longingness.
"Looks like she's got two admires."
Turning away from the table, I sat down in the empty one, ignoring everything around me. I debated on whether to pull out a book or listen to music on my mp3 player.
After some deliberation, I decided to listen to music with my headphones while reading the list Eric gave me earlier.
Anyone who plays a sport in this school is a jerk. The biggest ones are Mike Newton (The guy who threw the football at you) and his friend Tyler.
The cheerleading squad is like the girls you have seen in cliche high school movies but more evil and discreet.
AVOID LAUREN AND JESSICA (The blonde and brunette from my table.)
Lauren is the biggest asshole you'll ever meet. She already dislikes you. Jessica doesn't care about anything unless it involves gossip. She's the gossip queen of Forks. Be wary.
Finally, AVOID CULLENS, HALES, and DENALI'S.
Everyone calls them the Cullens. They're nothing like the jerks of this school, but you need to avoid them, or Rosalie will kill you with her glare. Nobody bothers them because of Rosalie Hale and Edward Cullen. There are 3 Cullens (Alice, Edward, and Emmett), 2 Hales (Jasper and Rosalie), and 2 Denali (Kate and Irina). Also, they have a new adoptive kid named Angela Webber. She's also one of the Cullens.
They shouldn't be a problem for you.
That's all the note said, which annoys me because I wanted more information.
"I guess this is good enough."
I looked up and glanced around the cafeteria, searching for Hale, but couldn't find the pale boy anywhere.
Sighing, I leaned back in my chair, putting my feet on the table. I closed my eyes and tried to plan how I'd get by the year without causing problems.
"Gran used to call me the danger magnet. I don't need to prove that name right by causing another incident. Might as well start picking up my old hobbies again."
I sighed.
"If it weren't for the promise to behave myself, I'd be an asshole to everyone around me."
I stayed like that for a few minutes, listening intently to the songs on my playlist until I felt a gentle breeze touching the side of my face.
I see a group of students coming from outside the double doors. I softly inhaled as I took in each of their appearances.
They looked nothing alike but had the same chalky skin with dark bags under their eyes. The only people that look alike are the Hales.
Each one of them seems so different and similar. It didn't make sense to me how it's possible. The inhuman-like charm sends a shiver down my spine, but it does nothing to prevent me from staring at the large group.
Something about Cullens presence sends a familiar feeling, a feeling that consumes my being.
"What's this feeling? Fear? No, after the incident, there is only one thing I fear."
The group walked gracefully to an empty table at the corner of the room.
I paid close attention to them, trying to find where I felt it before.
Then out of nowhere, as I stared at the female Hale, I started to have my flashes again.
I lay there, feeling my body spasm as my vision becomes blurry.
I felt a pair of arms circle around me as I cried in pain, feeling my heart beating frantically.
"Stay with me."
I glanced behind the figure to see the eyes of a creature. The dark, blurry thing hisses in anger as it begins to charge forward.
I winced as I grabbed my heart and put my head down on the table. I softly gasped, trying not to gain attention. As I tried to control my hyperventilation, I closed my eyes, attempting to shove everything in the back of my mind.
"Forget it already. You're in school. Don't make a scene on the first day!"
Then, for the first time since the aftermath of the incident, I felt physical pain in my heart.
I winced but ignored it.
When my heart was calm, I straightened up.
I glanced around to see that no one had noticed me. I let out a sigh as I saw nobody was paying attention to me.
"I'm so lucky."
However, my luck was short-lived as I glanced at the table that's the farthest away from me.
All the Cullens are staring at me from a distance. Although they tried to be discreet about it, I can read their eyes perfectly. Those golden eyes that glance at me once in a while for an exact second.
They all tried to be discreet except for two of them.
The straight blonde-haired girl is wearing a smirk on her face like a predator looking at their next prey. There is a twinkle in her eyes that causes me to roll my own.
"I thought Eric said that they didn't socialize with others. Why is she giving me a look like that?"
I turned my attention to Hale as he gazed openly at me with a confused look on his face. He narrowed his eyes a bit in concentration but let out a frustrated sigh.
The pixie-like girl sitting next to him turned her head towards me without any hesitation. She openly stared at me then turned to whisper something to Hale.
I was able to see her eyes losing focus. They became blank, making me raise an eyebrow. By the time her eyes regained their concentration, she stares at me, perplexed.
After that, the constipated-looking one of the group looked annoyed as he tried the hardest to stare at me. He shook his head and continued to talk with the girl to his right with a smile.
I sighed as they stopped staring at me.
I pulled out my mp3 player and decided to choose a different song to calm me down a bit. I settled on listening to Coldplay's Speed of Sound.
"Relax, nobody will bother you if you don't bother them."
That has been the plan since I left California.
To keep Gran's promise, I needed to keep to myself and stay away from everyone. It's not going to be a problem since it's what I've tried to do since the incident, but there is always someone who tries their hardest to gain my attention. These people always ended up being viciously offended by me or physically injured by my rage.
It's rare for me to fight someone, but it tends to happen. That's why Gran always lets me transfer schools in the past.
I saw students start to stand, meaning the bell must have rung.
I put my mp3 player away and started to make my way to my AP Spanish class.
By the time I arrived, the teacher was standing in the doorway, accepting papers from students.
"Bella Higginbotham?"
I nodded to him.
"Your syllabus and textbook are on your table. Please take the time to read it before class begins. If you have any questions, meet me after school."
I nodded at him again and passed through the door without a problem.
When I sat in my seat, I noticed that the female Hale was sitting on my right.
Class started, making me focus on taking notes and listening to his lectures. I felt eyes boring into me as I focused on my studies. When I checked the time, I noticed that class was about to end.
When the bell had rung, I noticed it was the Fem Hale who was glaring at me.
I only rolled my eyes at the girl then left the classroom. I can feel her scowling at me from behind.
"One more class before I rush out of here."
The teacher of the last class directed me to sit next to the mammoth Cullen.
As the teacher explained the lesson, I was surprised that the large boy didn't start a conversation. Throughout the entire class, I remained silent and listened thoroughly to everything he was teaching.
However, during the last two minutes of class, Emmett began to speak.
"You know, I think I've seen you before," he says in a whisper.
"Really? Where?" I asked.
"The airport."
I hummed in acknowledgment.
"Maybe that's why all of the Cullens seem familiar to me. That still doesn't explain what happened when I looked at Fem Hale during lunch."
Before I could start contemplating, the mammoth interrupted my thoughts.
"So, a rumor has it that you're good at being the best in all your classes."
I narrowed my eyes at him, which caused him to let out a toothy grin.
"Never trust the rumors."
"I'm trusting this one," he said as his grin cracked wider.
I wanted to scowl at the dope but remained nonchalant.
"Whatever."
He didn't say another word after that.
It wasn't until the bell rang that I noticed a note on top of my desk.
Careful, Kate has her eyes on you.
-Emmett
I let out a deep sigh at the mention of his cousin.
"Hale, Fem Hale, Mammoth, and that annoying girl from lunch. There's also the American Boy and his table of jocks and gossip queens."
These are the people I knew I needed to either avoid or be nice to throughout the school year.
I quickly headed to my locker to get everything I needed before exiting the school.
My walking slowed as I saw three people leaning next to my locker.
The closer I got, the more I could make out the three figures.
"Oh, look. Bella is here," I managed to hear from the brunette. I detected the hesitance in her voice when she spoke, meaning that someone probably put her into doing this, or she wanted the new girl as a friend for attention.
I saw some people stare as I approached the three girls.
The brown-haired stood in front of me with a big fake smile plastered on her face.
"Hi, I'm Jessica Stanley. These are my friends Lauren Mallory and Penelope Roux."
Mallory looked at her nails while Roux smiled brightly at me.
Lauren came off as the uncaring type, not concerned about anything involving this situation. The glare she had spoken levels of how much she didn't want to be present.
Roux looked like the kind of girl that almost made me wince. The way she stared at me was full of kindness and love, but what surprised me was the look in her eyes and her body language.
She was leaning forward slightly with her ears at attention. She flicked her hair a little and showed genuine interest in me. Her eyes weren't the same as that Kate girl from the cafeteria, but it held a promise of some kind.
"Is she hitting on me too?"
Finally, I stared at Stanley.
She wasn't bad like Malloy, but she did have the same standing as her friend. She didn't care much for me and probably wanted me around for attention. Other than that, the girl seemed like your typical school diva.
"Remember Gran's promise."
I nodded at them and promptly moved past Jessica towards my locker.
"Hey, aren't you going to introduce yourself?" she asked.
I only shook my head and let out a sigh.
When everything is secure, I immediately put my helmet on, intent on ignoring the three of them.
Stanley stood still as I walked past her until I heard her step forward a bit.
"Don't even think about it, Jessica. You saw how she acted. Let's go," said Malloy with a scoff.
As I walked out of the school, I noticed the two jocks from Eric's table waiting on the side of the school entrance.
"Hey, Bella," said the blonde boy.
I ignored him and passed him on the steps to the parking lot.
I felt a tug on my arm and turned around to see the boy holding it close.
"Hey, sorry, but I wanted to know if you'd want to have lunch with me," he said nervously. He looked nervous, but all I can see is a dog wanting to hump my leg.
I only jerked my arm away from the All American Boy then walked towards my bike.
As I mounted it, I groaned at seeing the blonde from lunch approach me. The girl wore an arrogant smirk as she lightly swayed her hips. When she's a foot away from me, she began to smile.
"So, your Bella Higginbotham," she said with a teasing voice, "You're more beautiful than I imagined."
I was taken off guard by her words.
"She was flirting with me after all. I thought she wait a bit before approaching me."
Kate's smile turned into a smirk as she stepped closer.
"You know, I heard that you're Jasper's partner for this year for Art 5. If you'd like, you can come over and spend time with us," she suggested.
I glanced behind her head to see Fem Hale seething while Hale, Mammoth, and Pixie looked worriedly at us.
I sighed and took off my helmet as I stared into the girl's eyes.
"God, her eyes are impish."
"No, thanks," I responded politely, "When it comes to the projects from our class, Hale and I will decide what to do. Alone."
She looked a little surprised at the remark, but her smirk never deterred.
"Hmm. Well, I'm pretty sure you'll be coming over soon enough. After all, Jasper's parents would want to meet the person who'd be helping him," she said with confidence.
"I'm not going to his house, so that won't be a problem. If anything, we'll work after school in the library or even in Port Angeles if he wants, but you're mistaken if you think I'd go to a random person's house."
"Why not?" she asked with a pout of some sort.
"Because I don't do well with people like you. I think it was Big Cullen that warned me about you, Denali," I said with a glare.
"Damn, this girl is trouble."
The girl only feigned hurt as she put a hand over her heart.
"Oh, Emmett warned you? I wonder what me means by that."
"He also said that you are a skank, so I'd talk with him if I were you. You wouldn't want Stanley to get more gossip fuel of the whore on campus," I said with earnest.
Kate still presented herself as smug, but her eyes showed anger at my words. If she kills Emmett for the little white lie about her being a skank, I wouldn't care.
I don't care if he even tried to help me by warning me about her because I'm not his friend. He's only the guy who sits next to me in Psychology class.
"He did?" she asked curiously.
"He did. I would show you the note he gave me, but it's in the trash," I said while turning on my motorcycle. I ignored the girl as I put on my helmet and revved my bike.
The noise caught the attention of half the people in the parking lot.
"Would you at least give me a ride? I don't feel like riding in the same car as Emmett," she said with a seductive look.
"Oh, she should eat her heart out. Seduction never works on someone like me."
I didn't respond as I started to exit the parking lot.
I glanced at the Cullens, who were staring at me with curiosity.
The mammoth, known as Emmett, started to look nervously between Kate and Fem Hale as I left.
"I would wish him luck, but it doesn't affect me."
The last thing I heard from them is Kate threatening Emmett in a high voice.
"Emmett, You are dead!"
I couldn't help but smirk at the twisted fate I left for the bulky boy.
