I'm going to be calling time traveller Naruto Kozima now, to not get the two confused.
"Naruto?" Hiruzen questions, a tight look forming on his face. Kozima bit the inside of his cheek before speaking again. "My cousin, Naruto. Kushina's son."
The tensing of all the Anbu as well as Kakashi was immediately noticeable to Kozima. "There's no way Naruto is going out of Konoha, and so I've decided to come to Konoha. I'm sure Naruto has no family left.. that takes care of him" he didn't intentionally target anyone with the remark, though there were some twitches. "Make me a civilian, a Konoha shinobi- I don't mind. I just want to be here for Naruto."
Kozima's voice barley increased in volume, but there was a specific determination in his tone. Jiraya beside him looks surprised; not much, but there is a small sliver there.
Kakashi hasn't said anything at all, ever since he first laid his eyes on the redhead. Well, that's about to change. "You know of Naruto's mother." Kakashi states, and Kozima's eyes snap towards him. Bright blue innocent eyes, replicating exactly Naruto's. there's a small flicker of something in them, but it disappears so fast that Kakashi wonders if it was ever there in the first place. "Do you know of anything else?"
"Of course I do. I know of Naruto as much as Jiraya may do." The man still manages to sound so... unimposing and at the same time making it seem as if Kakashi has lost a few brain cells.
Setting up arrangements was all that was left, and that that's how Kakashi finally found out why he was wanted here. Turns out, he'll be Kozima's personal "guide". Or.. more like watcher, he finds out when it's only Jiraya, him and the Hokage left in the tower, the Anbu off with Kozima.
"We're not just allowing someone to join our village without any supervision, especially if it's to do with Naruto." Hiruzen says, taking a puff of his pipe.
"I know" Jiraya replies, "exactly why Kakashi is here. I think he would be the perfect person to watch over Kozima." Kakashi sighs. "me?"
"Yup!"
.great
It's really notable how he manages to get all this on such short notice, Kozima thinks as the Anbu supposedly 'leaves' him at the doorstep to his new home- small- but a home nevertheless. He turns the door handle of the plain brown door and steps in.
The home is really not special, it's nowhere near the size of his apartment that his younger self lives in, and he has to duck slightly to avoid the low hanging light. He's definitely going to change that. He walks straight to the bedroom and turns the door nob, pushing the door which opens with a slight creak.
Simple, again, with a bed pushed up against the wall, and window right above it. A closet, desk and shelves were the other things in the room. Kozima kept the light off, the dark room being no problem to navigate through. He walks over to the desk and in his hand, his backpack appears. He places it onto the desk, not bothering to unload the contents and promptly faceplants onto his bed.
It's been a stressful day, and seeing Jiraya, Kakashi and Hiruzen wore him out as much as he thought it would. It's not so easy to hide a storm of swirling thoughts inside his head while still keeping up his usual personality, but now he doesn't have to. Nobody knows his usual nature. No worried Sakura to make sure he doesn't over do himself and no nudges from Sasuke.
Then there's Jiraya's great idea of Kakashi being near him just because of his relationship with his teacher. However, it could do him some good with comfort and getting used to (should be) dead and familiar faces.
He can't fall asleep. He hasn't had a good rest for the past year and that's not going to change just because he finally has a bed to sleep on. Even so, he doesn't get up, simply rolling onto his back and kicking off his shinobi sandals off. He stares at the ceiling.
"Kushina had an older sister, Katsu, though she left Uzoshio when Kushina was too young. She met a man, moved in with him and ended up having Kozima. Kozima is nine years older than Naruto, and when he was 16, he was taken." Jiraya explains to Kakashi and Hiruzen who were both listening intently.
"Why?" Asks Kakashi. "Was it because he was an Uzumaki? I mean, Uzushio was destroyed by then."
"Partly" Jiraya scratches his chin. "Though there was a bigger reason. His capturers believed he held the nine-tails." He watches as Kakashi and Hiruzen absorb the information.
"Nine-tails? Why would they think that?" Hiruzen asks, staring intently and supposedly calmly. Kakashi on the other had was not calm. Nine-tails? Naruto was five at the time and the jinchuriki of the Kitsune. Maybe they thought Kozima was chosen over Naruto to become the nine-tails jinchuriki?
"Kozima does not have bright blue chakra like the ordinary person. His chakra is a deep, dark red, exactly like the nine-tails. But it doesn't just look like it. "
"Continue" Hiruzen says, looking mildly ruffled.
"it doesn't just look like the bijū's chakra, it is the bijū's chakra. Naruto isn't the only one who holds a part of the nine- tails". when Jirays finishes there was a silence.
"You're saying that Kozima is a jinchuriki, as well as Naruto? Kozima and Naruto both have a piece of the Bijū's chakra? " They're both rhetorical questions from Hiruzen but Jiraya answers them anyways, with a simple yes.
"but... how? " asks Kakashi in a hushed tone, disbelief at the edge of his tone.
"I'm not sure, though it's something I hope to find out. " Jiraya sighs.
The night went past slowly, and Kozima listened to any sound that happened outside his window which was a lot, his ears picking up almost anything: even the trained anbu's breathing.
Morning came and Kozima, having not slept at all, got up from his bed slowly, his joints getting a stretch as he did so.
Walking over to his backpack, he picks it up before unloading the continents onto the desk. All the empty scrolls get tucked in the corner of the room on the ground standing upwards, Money is sealed away and some blank notebooks and papers sat on a shelf, but most of them just got placed on the desk and one sealed. His ink pot and brushes also get sealed away, ready for use.
He's got nothing to fill his closet with, only getting one set of clothes before he met with Jiraya.
He puts his sandals back on, and exits his room into the rest of his empty and bland one - story house. It's not filled with anything and Kozima won't make it a goal for him to do so.
He steps outside into the warm morning air and he off-handedly notices that the anbu have moved along with him.
He decides to let his feet take him wherever and unsurprisingly he reaches Ichiraku's. He ducks in, hands behind his back and fidgeting anxiously. Teuchi, as if he has some super sense for new customers, immediately appeared behind the counter, eyes closed and smiling. When Kozima gets closer, he reciprocates the smile. It's slightly smaller, but still conveys the same message.
"Are you knew to Konoha? I'm Teuchi!" Teuchi greets him amaiably. Kozima simply nods smiling, not trusting himself enough to speak. "Would you like anything?" Kozima's eyes lighten up. "One miso ramen, please." His voice came out quiet, and that always seems to surprise him every time. He's not used to being so quiet, so introverted.
"Coming right up!" Teuchi heads back to the kitchen and Kozima sits down on a stool. There aren't many people around, just a few dotted around on stools. He doesn't expect anyone to sit next to him, but alas, he inwardly sighs and braces himself when he feels Kakashi's chakra signature heading straight for Ichiraku's.
He keeps his eyes on his folded hands on the table, staying that way even when Kakashi sits on the stool to his right, reading his orange book. Neither of them said anything, both of them looking in front of them: Kozima at his hands and Kakashi at his book. A good -bad- minute of silence passed between them before Kakashi broke it, eyes never leaving his book.
"You can tell me more about yourself, if you want."
This caught Kozima off guard as soon as he said the sentence. Kakashi is not much of a sociable person and not one to start conversations by asking about someone else. He guesses that it's because that he's an Uzumaki, knows of Naruto and Kushina and claims to know as much as Jiraya on Naruto's case. There are plenty of reasons to make Kakashi both suspicious and curious to ask, but it still baffles him slightly. It reminds him slightly of the Kakashi from his own timeline.
Kozima doesn't respond, just turning his head so he can look at Kakashi directly, and blinking in surprise. Kakashi's eyes flicker away from his book and he meets Kozima's gaze.
"You don't talk much?... neither. "
Well, that's one similarity they have.
".. what do you want me to say? " Kozima asks, a red eye brow raised at the copy-nin. Kakashi responds with a shrug, turning a page on his book.
Kozima scratches the back of his head, turning his eyes and face to the table once again. "well... you already know my names Kozima and uh.. my favourite colour is orange..?" The last word had a tilt in pitch to it, making it sound uncertain and Kozima cringes. He's lost his way of being able to have a conversation and it's really hitting him hard.
"... What about you, Kakashi?"
Kakashi shrugs in return. "I'm a sensei, I guess. I got my three genin's a few days ago. "
Ah. so that's what the time period is.
"Genin's? I wouldn't have thought you to be the type to teach, even after only meeting you briefly." Okay, he's starting to talk more now. Screw him, He's missed talking to his sensei. Past, present or future.
"You'd think." He gives a small signature eye smile before carrying on reading his book. Kozima, not wanting the conversation to end- yes, screw him now a lot, he doesn't seem so introverted anymore- said that first thing, and worst thing, that came to mind.
"What's your book about?"
.. goddammit Naruto.
Once again, ramen saves all. Kozima thinks as Ayame arrives with a bowl of Miso ramen for him before Kakashi could even open his mouth to speak, or Kozima could smash his head on the table. He accepts the ramen with a smile, breaks apart the chopsticks and starts to slurp his noodles down- rather slowly compared to his usual speed- and Kakashi slightly marvels at how he seems- and looks- so similar to Kushina and Naruto.
After a few minutes- very much different to his usual seconds- he places his chopstick down, feeling throughly satisfied. He hasn't had food like this for a while, and though it doesn't show too much- Kurama's chakra keeping him stable- it still shows slightly.
"Kakashi"
Kakashi turns his head and raises a single eyebrow in question. "Don't you have to meet with your genin?"
"I'm meeting them earlier in the day, we're starting D-ranks."
"Oh." ..."You're supposed to be keeping watch of me. Does that mean I have to come too?"
Kakashi pauses for a second, thinking, and then sighs. "I guess so."
Well, looks like he's meeting them much sooner than predicted.
Authors note: I hope your enjoying so far! Any suggestions can go in the comments, I'd love to read them!
