Introduction: A Friend Like Me
'Well Ali Baba had those Forty Thieves….'
(Interior - Batcave near the Supercomputer)
Bruce studied the cube in front of him. He had found it once he caught Edward Nigma. The Riddler had been strangely quiet until about a month ago. He had began to wonder if Nigma had actually turned over a new leaf, but a theft of advanced software, powerful hardware, and a riddle that connected him to the crime was more than enough to figure out that he hadn't completely left his criminal past in the past. Bruce had found him with this puzzle box trying to figure it out. There had been dozens upon dozens of scans of it on the computers, but for all of his attempts it appeared that Edward was no closer to figuring it out than he most likely had been at the beginning.
Bruce studied the little box and looked at the shapes on it. They appeared to be strange, but familiar. He moved a piece and saw how fluidly it moved. There was no hesitation in the movements, which meant that someone had taken a great deal of time to construct the little puzzle box. Slowly it began to take shape. It was almost as if his fingers seemed to know what to slide, when to slide, and where to slide. The closest thing he could think of was a Rubik's Cube, but that wasn't quite accurate.
Finally he looked at the cube and realized what the shapes had been. It had been the shape of a girl draped around the cube. He finally finished the last bit and once it was done the cube leaped from his hands. Bruce stumbled back from it cursing himself for foolishly sitting down and messing with it. It only made sense that it could be dangerous since he had found it with Riddler. He waited only to see a pink mist rise from the cube. It drifted toward him and stepped back. Each move he made the mist followed until finally it surrounded him.
There was a moment he couldn't quite explain as it entered his nostrils. It felt as if it filled his entire head and then he simply blacked out. When he awoke there was a woman standing there.
"Who are you, what are you doing here?!" he gruffly asked.
"I am here because you solved the puzzle box, but I cannot tell you my name because I don't have one. As your servant Jinn it is up to you to give me a name," she answered.
"Jinn?" he asked.
"Yes, I believe that you call them..." she began before he interrupted her.
"Genies. Believe me I know the myths. Magic, great," he said as he moved past her.
"Master, aren't you interested in hearing what awaits you?" she asked.
"Not interested," he replied.
She looked at him in complete shock. It wasn't supposed to be like this. The information the Master Jinn had given her said that masters would be happy to meet their servants. He had just blown her off.
"Isn't there anything that you want or desire?" she asked.
"The are rules to what you can and can't do right?" he asked.
"Of course, there are limitations to what I can grant," she answered.
"The first being that you can't grant any wish that I don't ask for," he replied.
"That is a basic rule, yes," she said.
"Then there is nothing else to talk about," he replied.
"Master, you don't seem to understand. I am your servant jinn. I am to obey your every command. Whatever you command of me I shall do. The moment you opened my vessel I became bound to you. I can keep you young, keep you in perfect health, and an infinite number of other things," she said.
"Sir, who is your guest?" Alfred asked as he walked down the stairs.
"Others can see you?" Bruce asked.
"Of course. I can become invisible to all except for you if you wish, but I became real when you opened my vessel," she said.
"Do I need to ask sir?" Alfred asked.
"Magic Alfred," Bruce answered.
"I assumed so. Shall we contact Ms Zatanna?" he asked.
"No, not yet anyway," he said.
