[A/N: I will make Levi use Japanese honorifics from now on because they sound cute and I WILL clarify how he knows them later. I might also edit the previous chapters to make him use them there as well. I barely know any Japanese but I've tried my best to be as accurate as possible and I'm completely open to criticism!]
Chapter 31: Some x Brother x Trouble
January 21, 1999
"Hmm... this is just too big of a place... I'm totally lost... there should be signs around here somewhere, right..." Levi tilted his head to the side.
He had been wandering through the hotel for a seemingly endless amount of time. Yet, he could neither find the infirmary, nor any person. Until...
"Uh... kid?"
It was a random staff member.
"Oh hello! Do you know the way out of this maze?"
"Who... are you?" The lady pursed her lips. "This place has been reserved for a very important event. Where is your guardian? What are you doing here?"
"Uh... do you know where the infirmary is? My friend got injured in his match and-"
"Ohh! You must be one of the remaining participants then. Alright, you're actually very close. The infirmary is-" She pointed to a pair of doors at the end of a hallway, "-that way."
"Oh! Thank you!" Levi beamed at her and ran to the doors.
The lady stood there in confusion for a moment, finding it hard to believe for a little kid to reach the final phase of the hunter exam, before walking away to finish an errand.
Levi popped his head inside. The bed was empty. His eyes scanned the room. There was no sign of Gon, or anyone else for that matter.
"Aww!" He whined. "Maybe, the orientation has already started... I have been spending a lot of time wandering around. Awww! I'm gonna have to find the orientation room now."
Levi stood there for a while, puffing his cheeks in indignation, before he decided to give up and just go outside.
"Everyone's bound to leave sometime in the near future." He told himself.
Fortunately, finding a way outside wasn't too hard. Instead of spending another endless hour mindlessly searching, he simply jumped out the open window next to the bed.
It was only on the second floor so Levi had no trouble managing a perfect landing.
Once down, he gasped. Everyone was scattered in the garden below. He ran to the nearest group of people-- Phinks and Nobunaga.
"Where the hell were you? You missed the orientation." Nobunaga raised an eyebrow.
Phinks snorted. "And some very entertaining moments."
"Hmm?"
"Oh, you'll find out soon enough!" Nobunaga smirked.
"Huuuuh? Come on!"
"Can you guess who lost, little idiot?" Phinks asked while Nobunaga tried not to laugh.
"Hmm... Bodoro-san?"
"Nope."
"Uh... Leorio-san?"
"Nuh-uh"
"Huuuh? Gitarrackur-san?"
"You're a bad guesser."
"Awww! Hisoka-san?!" Levi asked sceptically.
"Hint: it's one of your friends."
Levi frowned. "Huh? Hmm... wait... K- killua?"
"Bingo."
"How?" Levi's voice was barely above a whisper.
After Phinks and Nobunaga filled him in, from Killua's match to Gon's outburst, Levi's face had lost all colour.
"... Where is Killua now?" He murmured.
"Kukuroo mountain. At least, that's what his brother told your little hotheaded friend." Nobunaga replied.
"Kukuroo... mountain..." Levi repeated. Slowly, his eyes lit up. "... Kukuroo... mountain..." He suddenly gasped.
His eyebrows knitted in a frown, he jerked his head up and looked around. He spotted the long black-haired man and sprinted towards him.
"Illumi-san, you bastard!" He yelled.
Behind him, Phinks whistled, amused.
Thwack!
Levi launched his right leg in the air and kicked him across the face. Illumi didn't bother to dodge as he knew that would only serve to further enrage the boy.
"What's up with you getting injured by little kids today?" Hisoka chuckled.
"ILLUMI-SAN!" Levi leapt up to punch him square in the jaw when-
Illumi caught his angry little right fist. "Levi, calm down."
The boy's blood lust engulfed him whole, yet the expression on his face didn't budge.
"Why didn't you tell me you were taking the hunter exam too!"
"I didn't deem it necessary."
"Well... fair enough." Levi stopped kicking around and Illumi let go of him.
"So... about Killua..."
Levi tensed. "I didn't know he was your brother. "
"Hmm? Don't we look similar enough?"
"He doesn't have alien fish eyes like you." Levi pouted.
Hisoka chuckled again.
"Alright... but you know what to do now. I may let Killua hang out with you when he's older but, right now, he's simply too naive."
Levi clenched his fists and frowned. His aura darkened back up but his voice softened. "... You're... wrong..."
"Wrong?" Illumi asked, as if daring him to repeat that.
Levi tightened his fists until they turned white. "...yeah..."
Illumi let his blood lust slither out. "I don't approve of you interacting with him at this stage of his life. If you insist, I'll kill you."
"I know you won't do that."
"Then, you don't know me."
"I'll go to Kukuroo mountain and get him back."
"Best of luck." Illumi retracted his bloodlust and walked away.
Levi blinked and returned to his usual self.
Hisoka snickered. "You know, you should do this more often~"
"Huh? Do what?"
Hisoka simply winked.
Someone cleared their throat. It was Nobunaga, with Phinks standing behind him.
"So, kiddo... how do you know Illumi?" He narrowed his eyes.
"We're in a relationship."
The two shared a look.
"What?"
"Nobunaga-san, don't you know what that is?" Levi asked, sounding a bit annoyed.
The two shared another look.
"What are you implying, kiddo?"
"We're in a business relationship."
Phinks sighed. "You're an absolute idiot."
Levi simply puffed his cheeks in indignation and walked away.
Nobunaga chuckled. "Seriously though, that kid is the literal embodiment of childish."
Levi walked up to a lavender-haired man.
"Satotz-san!"
"Huh? Oh! Levi, I believe you're here for your card?"
"Mhm."
"Very well." Satotz took out a folder from the inner pocket of his suit and handed it to him. "There you go, Levi. Take good care of it."
Levi opened the folder. Inside, his hunter license proudly shined.
"Will do, Satotz-san. Thank you!"
With that, Levi left to find his way to Kukuroo mountain in order to get Killua back-
"Hey!" A voice called him as he ran towards the exit of the hotel.
"Huh?" He turned around to find a smiling Shalnark.
Levi blanched as he recalled a certain incident from the fourth phase.
"Are you going to Kukuro mountain?" Shalnark's smile doesn't falter.
Levi silently thanked Shalnark for his niceness, and nodded.
"Uh... well... you can't." His smile faltered.
Levi frowned. "Why not?"
"We have a mission coming up and Danchou wants you to participate."
[A/N: Yeaa I know it's kinda shorter than usual but I'm super happy to finally finish the hunter exam arc and just wanted to seperate out the the next arc. This whole arc was really fun to write and I hope y'all enjoyed it too!]
