Siren Island
Todoroki stared out the window. The ocean glittered with the sunlight as the plane sailed over head. Beside him Bakugo and Midoriya were in another argument. Though he didn't know over what since he was tuning them out. Instead he was going over what they had been told about this trip they were taking.
Yesterday police called UA to ask for assistance from the up and coming heroes. Apparently a small island was having trouble with a villain. It was a peaceful place most of the time so active heroes weren't needed all the time. And the active heroes were too busy. Since it seemed like an easy mission they were recruited to check things out and stop the villain.
So they packed their bags, enough for two weeks, and hopped on a plane the next morning. They had been flying for almost four hours now. In another hour they should land on the island and meet their connection there.
An hour later the plane landed.
"This place is bigger than I thought it was." Midoriya looked over the airport parking lot.
"What are you talking about, you nerd?!" Bakugo snapped. "This place isn't anywhere near as big as a normal airport!"
"I didn't mean that. I just meant it's bigger than I thought it would be," Midoriya said.
"Never mind that. We have to find our connection." Todoroki looked around, noting there were several families going into the airport while they were the only ones to come out. "There should be a red jeep."
Just then a red jeep, without a top, pulled up. A teenager with long dark blue hair held up a sign with their names on it.
"That's us." Todoroki stepped forward.
The girl nodded and placed the sign down. The boys climbed in and they were off.
"So are you related to Fuji Tanaka?" Midoriya asked. "We were told he was going to pick us up."
She nodded again.
"I'm Izuku Midoriya." Midoriya smiled from the back seat. "These are my friends and classmates. Shoto Todoroki and Katsuki Bakugo."
"I'm not your friend!" Bakugo turned around and snapped at Midoriya.
"Sorry." Midoriya ducked. "So what's your name?"
She didn't reply.
"It's rude not to offer your name once you know ours," Bakugo said.
The girl continued to stare straight ahead without answering.
Todoroki watched the girl's reflection in the rear view mirror. Her dark blue eyes never strayed from the road. For a second he wondered if she couldn't talk, but shot that down. If she couldn't then she could have said so at the airport with a note or sign language. Maybe this girl just wasn't friendly. Or maybe she had a grudge against heroes. Either way it didn't matter to him. They had a job to do and that's what they were going to do.
"Hey, you're our age, right?" Bakugo noted. "Then why are you driving? There's no way you can have a license." Silence met him. "Hey! I'm talking to you!"
"Well, it's a small island. Maybe their laws are more lax here," Midoriya said. "I've heard small towns were like that." His eyes drifted to a field they were passing. "Kids from small towns learn how to drive early."
"I didn't ask you! So shut up!"
Todoroki rubbed his forehead. This was going to be a long two weeks.
A few minutes later the girl pulled the jeep in front of a two story house. Butterflies flittered around the bushes that were placed at each corner of the house. A large tree stood tall in the backyard. A forest was a hundred yards behind the house.
As they were climbing out of the jeep a police car pulled up. A man with black hair crawled out with a bright smile. "Hi! Sorry I couldn't meet you all at the airport!"
"Fuji Tanaka?" Midoriya ventured.
Fuji nodded. "Please, call me Fuji." He shook all three of their hands then hooked his arm around the girl's neck. "I hope Kai here didn't give you too much of a cold shoulder."
Todoroki looked at the girl. So her name is Kai.
"She's not as bad as she seems. She's really a puppy at heart." Fuji's tone switched to one of a person talking to a dog. "Isn't that right? Yes it is! You're a good girl!"
With a growl Kai pushed his arm off her and headed inside of the house.
Fuji chuckled. "Really. She's a good kid. She's just not open to people. Come on in. I'll show you to your room." He lead them inside.
Todoroki took in the house. It was simple with little decoration. The open design let him see Kai was in the kitchen, cooking. His stomach rumbled. It was about lunch time.
They walked up the stairs. At the end of the hall was a bay window that looked over the backyard.
"This is my room." Fuji tapped the first door on his right, the one on his left, then the next one on his right. "This is the bathroom and this will be your room for the time you're here."
The boys walked in when Fuji opened the door. Three beds and a walk in closet were housed in the room.
"Don't worry about Kai and the bathroom. She has her own," Fuji said. "You're also welcome to help yourself to anything you need. I've made sure to stock up on food and anything else I thought you might need while you stay here."
"Thank you very much, Fuji." Midoriya sat his bag on his bed.
Fuji nodded.
"We should start looking over the evidence and everything else you have on this villain attacking the town." With the other two beds already claimed, Todoroki placed his bag next to the bed by the window.
"That's not necessary right now. You all rest and eat. Kai is cooking lunch right now. Though don't expect her to do it again. She's so stubborn. She's only doing it now because I asked her to do it. I knew you'd all be tired when you got here. I know flights wear me out like crazy!" Fuji laughed.
"He's a talker," Midoriya said.
"That's nice of you, but we really should get started as soon as possible," Todoroki said.
"Okay. But at least rest for a couple hours. After you eat you can go over the files I have here in the living room. Later today you can come down to the station for more information." Fuji rubbed his head. "Though it's not going to be much help. We still don't have a solid lead on who it is."
"Maybe some fresh eyes will help," Midoriya said.
"I sure hope so." Fuji sighed then left the room.
