Villain Appearance
"Are you sure you want to go out searching tonight? Fuji asked.
"It's best if strangers patrol tonight." Midoriya adjusted his costume collar. "Locals will be easier to spot."
"That makes sense, but you don't know the island all that well yet." Fuji crossed his arms and leaned against the door's frame.
"We're not helpless!" Bakugo growled.
"We'll be fine. We downloaded maps of the island to our phones. And we have your number and the police station number," Midoriya said.
Fuji nodded. "Okay. It's my night off but do call if you need anything." He left.
The boys finished dressing and left the room. Todoroki paused to look at Kai's bedroom door. They hadn't seen her since she came home.
A cool breeze brushed across the boys' bare skin as they stepped outside. They looked around the house for any signs of disturbances, though Fuji had said the villain stayed close to town, before moving towards the town.
They stayed in the shadows as they looked around. A few windows were lit but most seemed to already be in bed. Though they knew a lot of people had already moved off the island.
"I don't get why a villain would attack here," Midoriya said. "There doesn't look to be anything of value to take. And nothing has been reported stolen. So what's the motive?"
"Perhaps this villain only wants to cause chaos," Todoroki said. "Some people are sick like that."
"Maybe. But if that was this person's goal then why pick on such a small town? Why not go to a bigger city?" Midoriya pondered.
"Perhaps that's just why. Bigger cities have more heroes to watch out for the people. Small islands like this don't have that. They might have one or two heroes," Todoroki said. He opened his mouth to speak again but stopped when he heard singing again.
Emptiness, it's all around me. I tried to catch my breath. I'm barely surviving. And I can't go on and I come undone. And there's nothing left in me. Hold on, don't turn and walk away. Save me. And I cried these words but nobody came.
"Do you guys hear that?" Todoroki paused and looked around.
"Hear what?" Midoriya asked as Bakugo kept walking.
"Someone singing."
Midoriya stayed quiet for a moment. "I don't hear anything."
"I hear it earlier today too." Todoroki closed his eyes, drinking in the song and the same feelings he felt before. "She so sad."
I'm all alone, running scared. Losing my way in the dark. I tried to get up, stand on a prayer. But I keep crashing down hard. This is my side of the story. Only my burden to bear. Nobody cares, nobody's there. No one will hear
"She?" Midoriya tilted his head. "What makes you think it's a girl singing?"
Todoroki licked his lips. Before he could answer Bakugo yelled at them. "Hey! What are you idiots doing?! We're suppose to be looking for a villain!"
"Yeah, we know." Midoriya sighed. "But I doubt we'll see anything tonight. The attacks are very random."
A loud boom sounded through the air. Smoke billowed up into the sky. A red glow appeared beyond the street lights.
"An attack?" Midoriya asked.
"About time!" Bakugo charged forward.
"Hey! Wait for us!" Midoriya ran after his friend with Todoroki following. Seconds later they made it to the fire. It was a house. "Todoroki, control the fire! Bakugo, let's see if anyone's inside!"
"Don't tell me what to do, Deku!" Bakugo dashed for the door.
Todoroki threw out his hand. Ice shot out, covering the roof. As he did the ice melt and dripped down on the fire. More smoke floated to the sky.
A few minutes later, Bakugo and Midoriya came back out with two adults and one child. They placed them on the ground across the street.
"There. Take it easy," Midoriya said. "Paramedics are on the way."
"Hey, there's someone over there." Bakugo pointed down the street. A person stood in the shadows, watching. The flames lapped, shining light on the person's green skin.
"Is it the villain?" Midoriya asked.
The person bolted.
"Come back here!" Bakugo chased after the shadow person.
"Wait!" Midoriya rushed after him.
Todoroki covered the house in ice and followed after his classmates.
They chased the shadow person through the town and out into a field. Todoroki growled. If only it was a full moon. Maybe they would be able to get a good look at this person. But it wasn't. Only a crescent moon hung in the sky. Though there was his fire. He shot out some ice, allowing himself to slid up to a higher level, then shot out a stream of fire.
Midoriya and Bakugo paused as the fire flew past them. The person ahead of them whipped around. They threw up their hands. Water shot out at the fire. The fire hissed and died out.
"Got you!" Bakugo set off a blast that sent him flying forward. Pulling back a fist, he readied another blast for the villain.
The villain shot out a water stream towards Bakugo, knocking the to be hero several yards back. Then they turned and ran.
"Bakugo, you okay?!" Midoriya ran up to him.
"Of course I'm okay! I'm going to kill that idiot!" Bakugo brushed water off his face and took off running.
This guy is good, Todoroki thought as they continued running after their target. They appear to have two quirks. No wonder the police here are having trouble with this person.
Bakugo's death threats continued as they ran. And ran. And ran. No matter how hard they ran they couldn't keep with this person. Before long they entered into the forest. The villain weaved in and out of the trees.
Todoroki knew if they didn't catch the villain soon they would lose him. And they did. The villain stepped around a tree.
As they started to round the same tree Kai appeared.
"Ah!" Midoriya skidded to a stop, lost his balance, and fell on his face. He sat up and rubbed his nose. "Ouch. Kai, what are you doing out here?"
Todoroki lit his hand and watched her face carefully. She showed no emotions to Midoriya's question or the fact they were all out there at night.
"Answer us! What are you doing out here?!" Bakugo screamed.
Kai turned up her nose and walked away.
"You shouldn't have yelled at her like that," Todoroki said.
"Why not?! She's not suppose to be out here!"
"It's her home."
"Shut up, Icy Hot!"
"Bakugo does have a point." Midoriya stood and brushed himself off. "Why is she out here? We all thought she was in her room. It's possible she might be the one we're looking for."
