Lost

She looked back over her shoulder. The man with green hair and three swords at his hip had been following her but now had stopped. His eyes roamed around the mist that had rolled in a few minutes ago.

Did he lose sight of her? That was possible. The fog on this island could become so thick no one could see half an inch in front of their face. Which often lead them to walk right into a sinking mud pit or devoured by one of the many flesh eating beasts roaming the island.

She increased the glow around her. It bounced off the white fog, making her illuminate even brighter. Then she parted her lips and sang a soft song that came out in gentle chimes.

The man turned towards her and started walking again.

She moved forward herself. Getting this man lost was going to be the easiest task she had ever done. Not that getting humans lost was a hard part in the first place. They were always easy to lure into the bog. If they didn't follow her light they always came when she sang.

But she had to admit there was something different about this one. She felt it when she first saw him. Though she couldn't put her finger on what it was.

Floating backwards, she eyed him from head to toe. He seemed like any other human she had come across. He had a scar across his closed left eye. A larger scar was on his exposed chest. His clothing was dark green. A bandana tided around his left bicep. Human. Plain and simple.

Who was he?

He didn't strike her as an educated man. Educated types didn't wander far into this island. This guy did.

He didn't appear to be rich since he didn't wear any jewels. Well, all but for the three earrings in his left ear.

Her eyes fell to his swords. They were three too. Was there a reason for it? Surely there had to be.

The man cursed, bringing her out of her thoughts. His right leg was knee deep in black sludge. He cursed and tugged on his leg.

A smile tugged at her lips. She shook her head. No. She couldn't be interested in this human. He was going to be gone like all the rest in a while. She started singing again. The man gave one final tug to his leg. Now freed he started following her again.

As he followed she lead him deeper and deeper into the mist.

Suddenly her body was wrapped up in warm, rough fingers. Her body shivered as she was forced to turn around. Glancing up she found the man staring down at her.

She swallowed a hard lump. He had caught her.
