The City That Time Overlooked pt 1
"Alright, Lisa. We're all here now," Lori said, standing among her fellow super family members inside the Royal Woods Heroes League's secret base. Lisa and Lana had called them all to their workshop, saying they had a big surprise for everyone. Taking up a majority of the cavernous room was something covered entirely with a tarp. "What's this big surprise of yours?"
"We shall get to that in just a moment. But first, allow me to make an inquiry of you all: As you know, we have been attempting to expand our reach of aid to not just all of Michigan, but to the country, and perhaps possibly the world as a whole. However, what has been one of the biggest sticking points to this endeavor?" LISA asked, getting a few annoyed looks from some of her older siblings and Lola.
"Uh...distance?" Lynn guessed with a shrug.
"Precisely. Few of us have practical travel abilities for that to be plausible. Only Glacial Gal and Mystic Mortician have the power to travel vast distances quickly," The Loud android explained.
"Hello...I can fly, can't I?" The oldest of the sisters interjected in irritation.
"Yeah. A lot of us can," Lana agreed. "But we can only go so quickly in the air. You and Deci-Belle are the fastest in the air, but it would take you a lot of time to go just from state to state."
"...that's a fair point, sis," Luna agreed, nodding slightly.
"Which is where our big surprise comes in. Family unit, allow us to introduce you…" Lisa gave her mechanically inclined sister a nod. She grinned as she pulled a remote from her overall pocket and pressed a button upon it. The tarp was lifted, revealing a copper orange jet, large enough to transport the entire family, and then some. Their collective mouths all hung open at the sight of this jet plane. "...to our newest method of transport."
"Is...is this what you and Lana were working on all this time, Leese?" Luna asked in awe, before a big smile appeared on her face. "Righteous!"
"Lisa...this is incredible," Her father said.
"You two have outdone yourselves this time," Lincoln commented, smiling at them.
"Thank you, family," The Loud android responded with a proud smile.
"I just have one question…" Mrs Loud said, with a strangely apologetic tone. "...who's going to fly it?" She hated to bring it up, since her family seemed pretty excited about it and the little ones sounded so proud of their work. However, it was a problem that needed to be addressed. Fortunately, Lisa seemed ready to address it.
"Presently, I have our aerial transport vehicle set up so that I can fly it remotely from our supercomputer, or even by uploading my consciousness into its own computer. However, I also pulled a few strings with certain government agencies. Those of us capable of earning driver's licenses in the state of Michigan can also take lessons in piloting in order to earn their pilot's licenses."
"Aw man…" Grappler groaned, while Lori, Leni and Luna all grinned broadly.
"With this baby, the sky's the limit as to what we can accomplish. Hahaha!" April Fool quipped with a soft laugh.
"Yes, that is correct," Lisa responded. Just then, an alert sounded over the League's central computer. "Computer, open comms channel."
"Good day, Royal Woods Heroes League. Brainwave here," Came the voice of the unseen Brainwave from the main computer. "I trust I find you well."
"We're doing well enough, Brainwave," Lynn Sr responded. "How are you and the Great Lake Guardians?"
"We're experiencing a spot of trouble, actually, on a city wide scale," He replied in a polite tone. "I was hoping we could request your aid in this dilemma."
"Of course, my friend. We'll be there as soon as we can," LISA answered with a nod.
"Splendid. We'll hold the fort until you arrive, as it were. Brainwave, out." With that, the communication line ended.
"Well, it looks like we're gonna get a chance to test this baby out," Luna said eagerly.
"Now, hold on. Not everyone can go," Iron Chef interjected sternly. "Some of us need to remain here just in case something happens."
"Dad's right, and I'll choose to remain behind," Chain Linc offered, getting surprised looks from all of his sisters.
"Well, I'll have to go," Miss Fix It said. "If the jet breaks down, I'll need to be there to repair it."
"I'll go too," Lori stated. "If something goes south, my strength will come in handy, and I'll have the least chance of getting hurt."
"Same here, only without the strength," Luan added.
"And in a pinch, I can fly on my own," Deci-Belle said, pointing a thumb at herself.
"I think I'll accompany them as well," Iron Chef decided.
"Aw man...again…" Lynn Jr sighed, realizing she wasn't even going to get to fly in their new jet, much less fly it.
"Look on the bright side, Lynn. It means more of a chance for you to get some action on the field here in Royal Woods," Her brother said in an attempt to cheer her up.
"I guess…say, why were you so quick to volunteer to stay behind?" She asked him with an inquisitive look as the group quick changed and started to board the jet. "Fear of flying?"
"Considering how I swing across the city? No. It's just my turn for evening patrol," He explained, with the sound of someone not telling the whole story. His brawny sister just looked in a disbelieving manner at him with a smirk.
"Is that so?"
"Yeah, that's so," He replied, frowning at her. She just kept smirking at him, amused by the fact he was starting to sweat. He glanced around for a moment, seeing if anyone was in earshot, then sighed. "Alright...I'll tell you two...but only if you promise not to tell the others."
"Two?" Chain Linc pointed down at the ground, where a microphone at the end of a tail lay.
"...you're no fun…" Tattletail complained as she walked over with a pouty look. However, when she did reach her brother, she suddenly smiled expectedly. "Sooo, what's the secret?"
"Promise first. Secret after," He said firmly. Lynn just shrugged, but agreed, while Lola groaned in frustration. However, for the sake of getting her brother to talk, she promised.
"I promise not to say a word to any of our siblings," she said, holding one hand up and keeping her other hand where he could see it.
"Alright…" He leaned in closer to whisper to them. "Me going on night patrol is the key reason for me staying behind...but that's because...I'm meeting Incanta tonight." His sisters were about to squeal excitedly, but he quickly covered their mouths. "None of that! That will be a dead giveaway."
"Sorry," they both said, their apologies muffled by his hand.
"...but what about your patrol?" The little girl with super hearing inquired.
"I plan to catch two birds with one net. I'm taking her for a swing around the town," He explained to them.
"Clever, little bro," His super strong teen sister complimented with an approving nod. "Can do your job and show a gal a good time...all while holding her up close and personal."
"Lynn!" Lincoln snapped, blushing.
"What? I wasn't teasing. That was a legit compliment," The ponytailed brawler said defensively.
"...anyway, I didn't want Mom and Dad to know, or they might think I was slacking, and...well, you KNOW the reason I don't want the others to know…"
"I getcha bro. And don't worry. Not a single word about this will leave our lips," His older sister said, patting him on the back.
"All League members, clear the hanger!" LISA declared, which sent those remaining behind fleeing for the nearest exit. Once the way was clear, an opening creaked open in the workshop as the turbines in the jet engines roared to life. A few seconds later, the aircraft sped right out of the opening, screeching across the sky.
"That...was SO cool!" The wrestle themed heroine commented with a big smile.
"...remember, you two...not a peep," Lincoln whispered to them as the others dispersed to return to their own business.
"Don't worry, Linky. We won't say anything to the others," Lola reassured him with a big smile. The smile did little to build the one son's trust, but he had someplace to be: he was meeting his friends to watch the premiere of Rip Hardcore's new survival show. He split off from his sisters, Lynn looking at Lola as she casually pulled her phone out.
"So, you're really not going to tell the others?"
"Of course not," Tattletail said in an over sweet tone. "I promised my big brother I wouldn't SAY anything." She then proceeded to text the news to all of their sisters (except Lily, since she didn't have a phone).
"You've learned well," Grappler commented with a smirk, patting her on the back. Within seconds, the squeals of the Loud sisters could be heard from the headquarters, house, and even from their new jet.
"LOLA!" Lincoln yelled through the house, which made Lola and Lynn giggle mischievously.
"Hehe. Good for Linc," Lady Glori commented with a grin as she put her phone away. She and the rest of the away team were all buckled into their seats in the spacious cockpit of the jet.
"What was that?" Lynn Sr inquired.
"Don't worry about it, Popstar," Luna told him with a chuckle. "I dunno about the rest of you, but I wanna check out the rest of this ride," She added as she unbuckled her seat and got to her feet.
"Go right ahead," Miss Fix It said, staying by the control panel. "I'm going to stay here and make sure everything stays optimal."
"That sounds like a good idea, Fix It," Iron Chef commented as he joined his daughters in standing up, following as Deci-Belle led the way into the next chamber.
"WHOA!" The family musician gasped in surprise, her family equally as amazed as they stared into the room. It was built like a fully loaded rec room: comfy looking seats complete with seat belts, a few computers, a wide array of books on shelves bolted to the wall, a flat screen television, a kitchenette with a fridge and mini freezer, even a game table in the very center. "Dudes, this is so cool!"
"We're glad you think so," LISA said through the sound systems. "We thought it would be nice to have a place to rest, or perhaps strategize, en route to our destinations. Granted, our ETA to Great Lakes City will be only about twenty minutes, so I would recommend not getting too comfortable."
"Twenty minutes?" April Fool asked in surprise.
"Well, we are flying at speeds considered safe for passenger aircraft, without the bother of traffic or needing to follow the roadways," The living AI explained to them. "We could stress test the afterburners-"
"Can we!? Please!?" Lana pleaded from the cockpit, sounding incredibly eager.
"-but I think for our maiden voyage, it would be wisest not to push the craft too hard."
"No, I wholeheartedly agree with you," their father said, which made Miss Fix It groan in annoyance.
"So, what do you think is up in the city?" Lady Glori inquired as she took a seat in one of the comfy chairs. "Gang activity? A super villain team?"
"You know, Brainwave never said, did he?" Deci-Belle as she plugged her phone into one of the sockets by the computers and turned on her playlist so they could listen to music on the way there.
"It must be pretty serious if he called for us…" Lynn Sr reasoned, looking pretty concerned.
"Yeah...but we should be alright. All of us with all of them, we can take anything," Lori commented as she pulled out her own phone to check her messages.
"I hope you're right…"
A couple minutes later, the team's new jet was quickly approaching the city. From a distance, everything looked pretty peaceful in the urban environment. The family had gathered back in the cockpit to get a good look at the city, which made Lori go all starry eyed at the sight. "The city...I've always wanted to live in the city," she gushed with a wistful sigh.
"Really?" Deci-Bella asked in surprise.
"Of course. The people, the culture, the shopping…" She started to list off excitedly. Just then, a large winged reptile with a long, beak like mouth swooped past their windshield, making her freeze mid sentence with eyes wide open.
"The pterodactyls…?" April Fool just looked on in confusion, leaning forward to get a better look in the direction the dinosaur had gone.
"That...is so cool!" Miss Fix It exclaimed, looking even more excited for the mission.
"Did...we just see that?" Luna asked in fright and awe.
"I think we did…" Her father responded, equally dumbstruck. Just then, an entire flock of fliers swarmed upon their jet, thinking it was prey. "...and they're attacking us!"
"Fix It, we have defenses on this thing, right!?" The musical heroine asked, the aircraft shuddering a bit under the biting and scratching reptiles.
"We sure do!" Lana said with a big grin as she pulled a lever on the dash. The craft hummed softly, but then sputtered loudly before all going silent. The mech genius' smile faded. "...we sure don't…"
"Actually, you were right the first time," Lady Glori said as she moved to the nearest door. She quickly threw it open before flying out to meet their reptilian assailants head on. A few punches was all it took to take down a few of the pterodactyls, but there was still a lot more of them. Half of them were converging on Lori, but the rest were still attacking the jet.
"Can we go any lower to get away from them?" Lynn Sr asked, the plane shaking even more now.
"We're too big," Miss Fix It informed them. "Maybe we overdid it a bit, LISA…"
"I will direct the craft to the nearest airport," The super smart synthetic sister said. "Radio ahead so we can get clearance to land."
"Good idea," Iron Chef said as he grabbed the radio transceiver. "Great Lakes International Airport, this is Iron Chef of the Royal Woods Heroes League. Requesting permission to land on your tarmac, over."
"Negative, Iron Chef…" Was the response he received. "We're currently experiencing an infestation on the runway and cannot allow any aircraft to land."
"An infestation? Of what?" Lynn Sr asked.
"Of T Rexes!" Luan yelled pointing down at the terror of thunderlizards currently menacing the airport.
"Looks like we better clear the way…" Deci-Belle said seriously, rushing over to the open door. She conjured her flying energy guitar and jumped on, with April Fool hopping behind her. Once they were clear, Iron Chef ran to the opening.
"Miss Fix It, stay here for the moment. Keep in touch with Air Traffic Control,"
"Roger that, super pop," Lana responded as her metal plated father flew right out of the jet, leaving a smoky trail behind him. Seeing the three of them leaving, the flying reptiles abandoned the aircraft in order to pursue an easier meal (or so they thought).
"Miss Fix It, is it?" A calm, sophisticated voice said inside her head.
"Huh? Who said that?"
"Do not fret, miss. I am speaking to you via telepathy," The voice said. "Follow my directions, and I will lead you to our headquarters. You can land there and return to aid your family."
"Uh...ok. LISA, a voice in my head just told me they can lead me to someplace to land."
"That must be Brainwave. Relay his instructions to me and I will send our craft there."
"If you say so…" Lana replied before she started to speak out the directions she was being mentally given.
On the runway, the tyrannosaurs were tearing apart the passenger planes with their sharp teeth and crushing the various carts and trucks used by the airport staff. Fortunately, all citizens were huddled in the airport building. Unfortunately, a few of the thunder lizards had turned their attention to them. The giant, bipedal lizards leered down into the skylight, seeing the people inside like they were human popcorn.
The tyrannosaurus slammed its head against the skylight, sending shards of glass down on the frightened travellers below. Before the massive lizard could make a move to devour them, however, it was struck in the side of its face with a burst of sonic energy. The short tempered thunder lizard growled as he turned to face Deci-Belle and the April Fool. He let loose a mighty roar, but neither were intimidated. April Fool sprang from the musical construct, stretching her arms and legs out and trapping the carnivorous reptile's mouth shut.
"I got him, sis! Now let's wrap this up!" Luan jested before giggling to herself. The musical superheroine nodded, but before she could attempt to subdue the giant lizard, she was rammed from behind by one of the pterodactyls. The impact nearly sent her off her construct, but it did knock her guitar from her hand. She watched in horror as it shattered upon hitting the tarmac below, but she didn't have time to mourn her shattered axe. She was surrounded by a flock of flying dinosaurs, scratching and biting at her. Further up the runway, her father was having similar issues, needing to use bursts of flame to keep the aerial and ground predators at bay.
The rocker heroine was forced to fight against the pterosaurs with her ipod, which left April Fool alone against the T-Rex she was currently trying to keep restrained. Fortunately, its tiny arms couldn't reach her to get her off its face. Unfortunately, the T-Rex had friends, and they were converging on the two of them. With their help and some effort, the toonish super being was pulled from the maw of the beast. She looked up nervously as she was being stretched between two of the thunder lizards, with the first looking at her with wrathful, hungry eyes.
"Eep! I know I look sweet and stretchy, but I'm not a piece of laffy taffy!" She cried out before chuckling to herself. Before any of them could snack on her, one of the dinosaurs holding her felt a tap on its back.
"Might I cut in?" The apex predator blinked and turned his head just in time to get a large fist to the face. The strike caused the dinosaur to let go of April Fool, causing her to snap forward and strike the other tyrannosaurus right in the eye, making it let her go as well. When the first carnivore recovered, it glared at its attacker: a giant sized, bald african american young man. He was wearing a brick red and yellow full bodysuit with a skyscraper emblem on its chest, yellow steel gauntlets on his hands, and large yellow boots on his feet. Over his eyes was a red face mask with sunglasses like lens over the eyes.
The angered rex lunged at him, the monster sized teen raising his arm in front of him to let the dino bite onto his gauntlet. His two fellow prehistoric monsters started to stomp toward him, but the rear most reptile was struck in the side of the maw with a gas filled whoopie cushion. When it turned to glare at the tiny yellow and black jester, it got a snout full of the gas, which made it get all drowsy, and then collapse onto the ground. This left the super sized superhero against only two t-rexes...and he seemed just fine with those odds.
He grabbed the thunder lizard biting his armored hand and, with his great strength, swung it at its ally. The impact knocked it prone, but he wasn't done yet. He then lifted his initial attacker and slammed it down hard on the other. The strike was more than enough to knock them both out cold.
Meanwhile, Luna was lashing out at the flock around her with a whip made of sonic energy. Every so often, the whip would strike, and shock, one of the pterodactyls. However, there were still a lot more of them than there were of her, and all around her. She was starting to sweat from the effort of trying to keep them away from her, snapping her weapon in almost every direction. However, she couldn't look everywhere at once. She was blindsided by a long beaked flyer from behind, which bit into her arm.
"Agh!" She cried out in pain, punching the winged reptile right in the eye. This made that one release her, but the rest of the group was now swooping in all at once. Before they could touch her, a spray of water shot from seemingly nowhere, knocking two of them out of the sky and sending the rest scattering. Soaring up beside Deci-Belle was a raven haired young asian girl in a deep blue scuba suit and fins, and a pair of diving goggles flanked with wing like fins. Set onto the chest was a large HP in cursive writing in the form of a stream of water. She was riding atop a platform made entirely of water, like it was a flying wave.
"Are you alright?" She asked the super rock star beside her, unleashing a new torrent of water from her hands to spray down the winged dinosaurs still threatening them.
"Not gonna lie...I've been better," Deci-Belle admitted, looking down at her bleeding arm.
"I'll get that if you'll cover me," The super powered child offered. Luna wasn't sure what she meant by that, but she didn't really have any room to argue, so she started cracking her whip at the remaining pterodactyls to give her room and time to work. The water themed heroine raised a hand over her wounded arm, which caused little raindrops to fall from her palm onto the injury. The third oldest Loud felt a tingling sensation on her arm as the wound stopped bleeding, and then started to heal. Within seconds, the bite marks were gone, as if they were never there to begin with.
"Dude...that's awesome!" She said with a big smile. "Thanks loads."
"Welcome. Now let's clear the rest of these winged rats." Deci-Belle smirked and nodded as she fiddled with her ipod, turning the whip into a large, studded mace. All healed and now with back up, she went onto the offensive, while the water manipulating heroine sniped pterodactyls from a distance. Within seconds, the remaining flying dinosaurs that weren't knocked out were sent fleeing for their lives.
With the flyers cleared off, she turned her attention back to her sister and father. To her surprise, they were just mopping up the last of the dinosaurs on their end of the tarmac: The giant sized hero had pinned the last T-Rex to the ground, where April Fool smashed it in the head with her mallet, and Iron Chef had scared away the last of the pterosaurs with pepper shots from his hands. By the end of it, the runway was clear, save for a stack of unconscious tyrannosauruses.
Some distance away, Lady Glori seemed to have bitten off more than she could chew. The pterodactyls couldn't deal any lasting damage to her, but there were more than enough of them to be a pain in the neck. She was able to down a half dozen of them with her pure strength alone before they could incapacitate her, with a flying carnivore holding each arm and leg in their sharp teeth and trying to pull her apart. Her durability protected her, but she couldn't pull herself free from this position.
Before the pterodactyls could carry her away, however, she heard someone shout "Hey!" from far below. Within a second, one of the flying dinos was bashed from below with...the word Hey!? Strange, but it knocked out one of the pesky fliers holding her legs. Lori wasn't complaining. It gave her an opening to kick the only pteranodon chomping her other leg.
Just then, one of the winged reptiles holding one of her arms was forcibly pulled to the ground. Lady Glori blinked, but then smirked as she clenched her free hand into a fist. However, before she could punch the last pterodactyl, she noticed some tentacle like hair grabbing it by the legs and pulling it downward as well. A little confused, she turned her gaze downward to see a small, tan skinned boy with a big round nose and large, fluffy brown hair holding the flying meat eater down with his hair, while a tall, pale blonde girl had bashed it in the head with the word WHAM!.
The smaller boy was wearing pale blue, metallic body armor with matching metal gloves, black pants and boots, with his eyes and some of his face covered with a greenish visor. Set onto his chest was an emblem of a comb. Once the pterodactyl was rendered unconscious, his hair let go of it and returned to its original, puffy state. His taller cohort gave him the thumbs up. She was wearing a baby blue tank top and black tights, with white knee high boots and fingerless white gloves, as well as a simple blue mask over her eyes. On the stomach of her shirt was a speech bubble that exclaimed "Smack Talk!" on it, as if a comic book character had screamed it. She then turned her attention up to the eldest Loud sister. "Hey! Are you alright up there?"
"Uh...yeah. I'm fine, thanks," She responded as she floated down to meet with them. "I guess you're the Great Lakes Guardians?"
"Yep. And I'm willing to bet you're from the Royal Woods League, right?" The boy with the big hair asked with a smile.
"I am. The name's Lady Glori," She responded, holding a hand out to shake their hands.
"Delighted," The blonde haired girl replied as she and her ally shook hands with her, the word appearing over her head for a moment after she said it. "Introductions will have to wait, though. Brain Wave is waiting for us back at HQ."
"Well, he's going to have to wait a bit longer. I need to make sure my family is safe," Lori said, turning her head in the direction she saw the league's new jet fly away. "They headed for the airport, still being dogged by those dinosaurs…"
"Well, let's get a move on then," The short young man said just as several strands of his hair stretched out and formed into spider-like legs, lifting him up. He started to skitter away, leaping up onto the side of the nearest building as he moved. Lori winced a bit at the sight; handy as it looked, it kind of weirded her out.
"Would you mind giving me a lift?"
"Huh? Oh, sure thing," Lady Glori said, snapping out of her momentary daze. "Climb aboard." The tall, thin girl nodded and climbed onto her back before the two of them flew off toward the airport.
When they arrived, the rest of their respective hero organizations were already clearing the unconscious dinosaurs from the runway, leaving it clear for passenger planes once again. After a moment of the Louds making sure one another was alright, their new friends from the Great Lakes Guardians escorted them to their headquarters. It was a large, penthouse-like building atop a skyscraper, shaped kind of like a ufo, with windows circling it completely. The top of their base of operation was flat, and currently housed the Royal Woods League's newest aircraft. The area all around the headquarters was infested with even more dinosaurs: on the streets, on the sidewalks, on the roofs, everywhere. However, they were just standing there, staring off into space. None moving so much as an inch.
As they approached the roof of the Great Lake Guardian's nerve center, they saw the little machinist standing near their jet, waving to them. Not far from her, sitting in a strange, hovering chair, was a small, somewhat bulky young boy wearing a yellow robe and a large red helmet with only a thin gap to see through. His headgear covered the entire upper half of his face and his hair. His mouth was set into a kind of dull frown. From what little they could see of his face and his hands, he seemed to have tanned skin. "Ah. Honored friends from Royal Woods," A soft, young male voice sounded inside of each of their heads. "Welcome to Great Lakes City."
"W...where is that coming from?" April Fool inquired, looking around for the source.
"Down here. The boy in the chair," The voice explained. "My apologies if this is unorthodox for you, but I prefer to speak exclusively through telepathy. It makes things so much easier."
"No need to worry about that. I believe you're Brainwave?" Iron Chef asked as his family came to land on the rooftop landing pad, the tall blonde teen getting off of Lori's back. Shortly after, the little boy with the large hair had managed to climb his way up, and the giant among them shrank himself back down to his normal size (roughly Lincoln's height).
"You are quite correct, Iron Chef," Brainwave responded with a nod. "I am indeed Brainwave, mentalist and leader of the Great Lakes Guardians. And these are my fellow heroes, associates, and good friends…" He gestured to the small group of young heroes and heroines as they gathered around him.
"They call me High Rise," The bald young man responded with a confident smile. "I always rise to the occasion!" He added before he grew several feet to demonstrate his power.
"I am Smack Talk!" Responded the tall girl in the blue tank top, the words appearing behind her in grand fashion. She reached back to pluck them out of the air and swung them around like they were a pair of swords. "My words always hurt evil doers!"
"My name is The Coif," The boy with the big nose and bigger hair introduced himself, his do forming into several large tendrils which he used to whip and lash into the air. "Every day is a bad hair day for criminals."
"And they call me Hydroplane!" The raven haired water manipulator explained, hopping back around her aquatic platform and raising her hands, causing jets of water to shoot up, "I may be a little wet behind the ears when it comes to crime fighting, but with me around, crime will be all washed up."
"Delighted to meet you all," Lady Glori said with a small smile before she looked down at the dino packed streets. "So...how exactly did Great Lakes City suddenly become the dinosaur capital of the world?"
"It all started about two weeks ago," Brainwave started to explain as he pointed out into the distance. The super family turned to look at what seemed like a rainforest growing just within the city limits. "We noticed that unusual vegetation had started growing outside of the city. Vegetation that is usually associated with jungles, or perhaps the rainforest."
"Stuff like that does tend to stand out," April Fool said with a soft chuckle.
"Indeed. At the time, it wasn't causing any harm, and the mayor actually liked it. Thought it would look good to tourists to have their own rainforest nearby, so he told us to not bother with it. But then the dinosaurs started appearing."
"At first, it was just little ones," High Rise expanded upon. "Those annoying little compys, the feathered, bird like dinos, and the odd duck bill dinosaur. Nothing especially threatening, but weird as all get out."
"As the jungle expanded, however, so grew the saurean threat," The young mentalist continued. "By the time it had breached the city limits, we were starting to see tyrannosauruses, velociraptors, pteranodons, angry triceratops, etc."
"It wasn't so bad when it was just one or two," Smack Talk said with a frown. "But lately, they've been coming in large packs."
"There just isn't enough of us to handle them all, and go investigate the cause at the same time," The Coif added.
"That does sound rough, dudes…" Deci-Belle commented with a frown.
"It is indeed. Which is why we called for you, my friends," Brainwave said telepathically. "With your assistance, we should be able to stop the dinosaurs from attacking the city long enough for us to seek out the source of these prehistoric creatures and put an end to it."
"Why don't you do what you're doing to stop the ones around your base?" Miss Fix It asked with a raised eyebrow, jabbing a thumb toward the dinosaurs currently sitting like many bumps on a log.
"If only it were that simple, Miss Fix It," The somewhat round young boy responded with a mental sigh. "My mental powers are great, yes. Great enough to hold dinosaurs in the local area in place, due to the lesser wills often seen in wild dinosaurs. However, my powers cannot reach the entirety of the city...at least with my helmet on."
"Then why don't-oh, wait. Secret identity?"
"That is half the equation, yes. The second is the fact my helmet acts as an inhibitor. I...confess that I still have trouble controlling my powers without it. If I were to remove my helmet, I could possibly and seriously hurt myself or others…"
"Oh...sorry about that…" Lana said, giving him a sympathetic look.
"Think nothing of it, Fix It. You had no way of knowing," The young man said, his chair floating over so he could pat her on the shoulder. "However, there is a way we could still pull it off if you're willing to help."
"Really? What do you need me to do?" With that, Brainwave smiled a little.
"I will allow Smack Talk to explain. It was her idea, after all," He said, giving her the floor.
"Hehe. Well, it was an idea inspired by something I saw in a comic once, but I digress. What I was thinking was we could build a device that could send out a powerful wave of the same psychic energy Brain Wave is using to stop these dinosaurs through the whole city."
"Huh...that...sounds like a tall order…" The team machinist said with a slight frown before pulling out her communicator. "LISA, did you catch that?"
"Indeed, Fix It," The sentient AI concurred. "And I agree it will be a challenge, and will no doubt only work temporarily, but it is doable."
"That will do," Hydroplane interjected with a big smile. "If it gets these crazy dinosaurs off our backs long enough for us to put a stop to all of this, then I say we go for it."
"Very well. I'll send a list of materials we'll need to procure to create such an emitter shortly. I trust you can take it from there, Miss Fix It?"
"You got it, cyber sis," Lana exclaimed with a big grin.
"In the meantime, we can do what we can to keep the invading dinosaurs in check long enough for you to build it," Iron Chef offered, gesturing to the city at large.
"That would be most appreciative," Brain Wave said with a nod.
"Before we go, though, what do we know about this whole invasion? Like, were there any demands made? Messages from someone? Anything?" Deci-Belle inquired.
"Strangely, no," The raven haired water bender admitted with a shake of her head. "At least, not that we know of. No ransom notes. No threats. Just suddenly jungle and suddenly dinosaurs."
"We do have one clue, though. After some coaxing, we were able to get the mayor to admit that there was a government science facility in the rough neighborhood of where the rainforest began," The bald teen boy explained. "But, unfortunately, we didn't have the clearance to really investigate it. Seems there's some big, hush hush stuff that usually goes on in there."
"Is that a fact?" LISA interjected, the sound of knuckles being cracked being heard from Lana's communicator. "I'll see about that."
"Wait...can she do that?" The tall blonde teen whose words manifested as weapons asked in surprise.
"LISA has a lot of connections of her own, even before we got superpowers," Lady Glori replied with a grin.
"Quite so. I will look into this facility, and see if I can grant the Great Lake Guardian's sufficient clearance to investigate it and other facilities in the future," The super genius said, before muttering under her breath, "Why they don't have it already would be worth investigating as well…"
"Alright then...looks like we have our work cut out for us," The Loud patriarch said, a serious look in his eyes. "Miss Fix It, you go get what we need to build that emitter."
"Got it, Chef!" The tool savvy superheroine responded with a salute.
"Meanwhile, the rest of us will scour the city, clearing out any problematic prehistoric pests along the way."
"Sounds like a plan, man," The smallest boy of the group said, his hair forming a thumbs up.
"I'm afraid I must remain here, or else my hold on these dinosaurs will weaken and they will be free to attack again," Brainwave said, regret clear in his mental voice.
"And I think I'll go pay the mayor a visit," April Fool said with a smirk. "I'd like to ask him a few questions about what's going on."
"Hmmm. Not a bad idea, April Fool," Lady Glori said after considering it for a moment.
"Very well then. I wish you all the best, my friends," The chair bound mentalist said as the heroes of both the Heroes League and the Guardians went off in different directions to put their plan into action. "And please, be safe…"
AN: Casey is High Rise, with the power to grow to giant size. When he grows, his strength and durability multiply to match his new size.
Nikki is Smack Talk. When she speaks, her words manifest around her and can be used as melee weapons and launched through the air as projectiles. They can also be used as a shield in a pinch. Her words don't need to be heard or understood to work, she just needs to speak them.
Sameer is The Coif, with a head full of weaponized hair. He can control his hairdo to form whatever he wants: extra legs for maneuverability, tendrils for restraining, weapons, a shield, etc. If damaged or destroyed, his hair can regenerate quite quickly, even if he ends up bald (not shown here).
Sid Chang is Hydroplane. She can control water with just a thought. As long as there is a source of water nearby, or even sufficient moisture in the air, she can create jets of water, a wave for her to fly on, or even make it rain. Her water can even have a healing effect on those who are injured. She can also breath underwater (not shown here).
I will do a profile on Brainwave at the end of this story arc, since I will reveal his identity at that point. The villain of this arc will be revealed next chapter.
