A/N: It's been a very, very long time since I've written anything, I can even feel how slow my fingers are at typing compared to how fast I used to be. Anywho, welcome! My name is FatBuddha, formerly known as NeutralPanda123. I'm not going to take too much of your time with this author's note, just wanted to give a quick few bits of information.
1. This story will be updated whenever I have the time and will to write and upload another chapter. I have no set schedule and am currently very, very busy trying to get a job, seeing as I've been depressed and unemployed for a great portion of the COVID-19 epidemic.
2. This is my first attempt at writing in YEARS. I would be very grateful for any real criticism I can receive while writing out these chapters, and if I get to the point of actually updating this story more than I expect, I might look for a beta reader. Please let me know if I make any mistakes story-wise that I need to correct, or if you have any ideas for future chapters.
Overall, that's pretty much all there is to know, I'm not too sure about the premise of this so we'll see how it works out. This first chapter is just going to be an introduction to see what kind of feedback I receive and what direction I would like to move in.
I'm finally done so I'll let the chapter speak for itself, thanks for stopping by!

Introduction
Lain to Rest
The day started off as normal as any other. It was a nice spring day, the sky a clear, bright blue, and there was nary a cloud in sight. Even still, Ruby woke up this morning with a horrible feeling settling in her stomach.
"Urghhhh." she groaned as she sat up from her sleeping position in her share of the bunk bed. Taking a quick peek at her scroll, the clock on the lock screen read 09:36 am, Sunday.
Holding her aching stomach, the cause of her waking, she muttered to herself "I should've left that third plate of cookies alone" and made her way to the dorm restroom, where she would proceed to do her morning business.
After stepping out of the restroom, she rubbed the tiredness from her eyes and silently noted that only Yang was still present, although she was still fiercely sleeping, her snores vibrating the walls.
'Only makes sense Weiss and Blake are gone, they're both early risers, even on the weekends.' she mused. 'They must be in the library, Blake reading her dirty books and Weiss studying as always.'
As quietly as possible, the teenage reaper began to disrobe from her pajamas and get her proper clothes on for the day. 'Hehe, since it's a weekend I don't have to wear that stuffy uniform!" she giggled quietly to herself as she slipped out of the door and closed it behind her.
Quickly making her way to the Library, she spotted her teammates at the same desk, sat across from each other. Weiss, studious as ever, had four textbooks piled next to her on the desk as she skimmed another, writing down notes with a high quality, fancy looking pen. Blake, across from the W in their team's namesake, was reading Vol. 6 of Ninjas of Love, stealthily hidden behind a textbook on 'Dust Theory: The Applications of Dust; Vol. 3'.
'Not sneaky enough if I can tell what she's reading from across the library.' she snickered, watching as some of the other students passing by her saw the title and blushed as they walked past her seat.
Approaching her bestie and cat-girl teammates, she shouted "Good morning my fabulous teammates~" before she was promptly "SHUSH!"'ed by the librarian.
"Hi Ruby/Ruby." she got respectively from each of her teammates, each one giving her a nod of acknowledgement that they heard her greeting, they were just too busy to care. Ruby proceeded to take a seat next to Weiss and across from Blake so that she could take a cheeky look at her partners' notes (and maybe get a copy of her own to boot~).
"How are my fabulous teammates doing this wonderful morning?" she asked, neither of them bothering to answer their boredom stricken leader.
After waiting a moment and not receiving an answer, Ruby took the hint, let out a huff, and left with an "Ughhhh, the both of you are so boring!", stretching out the end to get her point across.
"Bet you 20 lien she forgot JNPR was coming back today." Blake shot towards the heiress. "I'm not taking a bet that predictable." Weiss sounded off and continued with her studies.
As Ruby continued on her path towards the cafeteria to; hopefully, if there was still some left; get some tasty breakfast, she got a notification from her scroll signalling that JNPR's location was getting nearer to where her team was located. 'OMG I totally forgot that they were coming back from their mission today! This tracking app really comes in handy. I need to head to the bullhead dock ASAP!' she thought as she activated her semblance, dissolving into a pile of rose petals and hurrying towards the dock.
What she would find when she got there, however, would not be a joyful, happy, after-mission reunion with her sister-team. It would be a painful reminder of her career choice, for when she arrived at the docks, she would not only find Jaune injured, missing one arm and looking half dead. No.
She would find him alone.

A/N: Well take a look at that, my first work in years. Please keep in mind that I know this is amateur work, and I know it's very short, it's the intro. If I do receive enough good feedback on this to continue, I do plan on making following chapters longer.
Anyways, this is FatBuddha, signing off.
Chap. Finished on June 25, 2021
