Author Note: Hello~
What's the best way to get over a writing slump? Start a new story! No, seriously. I've spent the last few days writing this story and I have chunks of it done.
Strap in, this one's going to be fun and slightly fashionable. XD
Summary:
Sakura manages to get famous fashion designer Naruto to design the dresses for her and Sasuke's wedding. But when Sasuke meets Naruto he learns what relationships are supposed to actually feel like (aka you're not supposed to settle).
Naruto on the other hand adores Sasuke's daughter and can't fathom how Sakura doesn't see how lucky she is when he sees how she treats the little girl (like her competitor).
Karin is ready to play matchmaker.
Notes: Sasuke/Sakura in the beginning but no smut. Sasuke and Karin have a kid but they're just friends so no smut or relationship between them. They will both top and bottom. Good dad Sasuke and Taka friendship. That's it for now!
It was a typical Sunday for Sasuke and Sakura. They were seated at one of the posh restaurants Sakura kept on rotation for Sunday brunch. He didn't really care about brunch, but the food was pretty good, and he had the day off so he couldn't complain.
She was impeccably dressed as always, wearing a baby pink romper with pearls and stiletto pumps. Sakura had insisted he wear an outfit of her choice and he hadn't wanted to argue. So here he was, wearing a light blue shirt and tight cream slacks. He felt fucking ridiculous. Like he belonged in some beachy drug lord film.
He was deep into reading a book while she scrolled through her phone when she let out a surprised gasp as she read the email on her phone.
The gasp made him look up and raise an eyebrow.
She giggled excitedly, "I got an appointment with Naruto Uzumaki."
Sasuke continued the blank look. He had no idea who that was.
She pressed, "The fashion designer I've been trying to get for the clothes for the wedding?"
He frowned, not understanding the excitement, they're just clothes. "And it was hard?"
"Yes! His designs have been worn by royalty. Like royal families, baby."
Okay, he guessed he could see how it was a big deal, "How did you do it?"
She took a big gulp of her mimosa, "His cousin is best friends with the husband of our wedding planner and the cousin owed them a favor."
Sasuke didn't particularly care about fashion. His family had money, sure, but he usually just went along with whatever his mother suggested for him. They were modest people, despite their wealth, and tended to keep to themselves but the woman knew her fashion. Though Mikoto did constantly make fun of Sakura's outfits when she was out of earshot. His mother wasn't particularly fond of his fiancé. Often calling her tacky-dressed and said that expensive clothes didn't mean they looked good.
He'd met their wedding planner only a few times, letting Sakura design most of the wedding at her insistence, "Our wedding planner Konan?"
"Yep!" She chirped. "I'm so happy! He's going to make me look so expensive."
Sasuke slowly nodded and thought the conversation was over until Sakura continued.
"Okay, so our appointment is in three weeks at – oh – this time!"
He shrugged, "As long as I don't have work."
"Sasuke! You need to put more effort into planning our wedding!" She chastised him like she was speaking to a disruptive child.
Sasuke was about to point out that he didn't really care about the wedding. Or particularly even getting married – but the food arrived just in time to interrupt him.
It wasn't that Sasuke didn't like Sakura and didn't want to spend time with her. Did he love her? Yeah, he supposed since they were together. She was smart and he could be around her when she wasn't so… conceited. He liked the intelligent side of her and she seemed to be kind to his daughter. They'd been dating for a year and figured that she would be the best to marry since she was what he thought a good partner was supposed to be. He didn't want to bother going back to dating.
Sasuke shared custody of his daughter with Karin and her husband Suigetsu. It had been a hard pill to swallow for Sakura when she realized the man of her dreams had a child with his best friend.
They'd shared a brief drunken night together a few years back when he was mourning the sudden death of his father. Honestly, he barely remembered the encounter. They'd both gagged at the realization of what happened, realizing they weren't attracted to each other at all and definitely were only best friends.
Weeks later Karin found out she was pregnant. She'd decided she wanted to keep the baby and Sasuke happily told her he'd be there in any way she needed him. Suigetsu and Juugo had excitedly called the baby their friendship baby.
During the pregnancy Suigetsu and Karin became closer and the next thing Sasuke knew, they were together. Sasuke trusted Suigetsu wholeheartedly and was thrilled to know that he would be a part of the baby's life too as an extra father figure if his baby wanted him to be.
The day he met his baby girl was the best day of his entire life. Ever.
The 3-year-old looked completely like Sasuke, much to Karin's dismay. Aiko was shy with people she didn't know but when she was surrounded by people she was comfortable with, she became fearless and outspoken. She was girly and Sasuke had to learn early on how to fix her hair in different hairstyles. By this point, he was a pro.
When he'd met Sakura a year and a half ago, the girl had been absolutely smitten. She had relentlessly pursued him and after a while, he started to see her as a potential partner. He'd told her upfront that he shared custody of Aiko and Sakura had accepted that they came as a pair.
He knew she hadn't been particularly thrilled, but she was insistent that it wasn't a big deal. He'd been in a couple of relationships in the past, though nothing serious, but this was the first one since Aiko was born. He'd been content with the occasional one-night stands before Sakura had entered his life.
Aiko wasn't too open with Sakura, but Sasuke hoped that Aiko would feel more comfortable around her with time. He hoped.
On the day of the meeting, Sasuke buckled in a cheerful Aiko. The little girl bubbled with giggles as Sasuke placed a kiss on her forehead. Sakura hopped into the car urging for them to hurry up or they'd be late.
During the drive, Sakura chatted excitedly about the design she had in mind. She wanted to keep the wedding dress design a secret from Sasuke, but she described the look she wanted for her bridesmaids.
She didn't have many friends. Sasuke chalked it up to girls not getting along with her well but Sakura just said she was selective. There were only 3 girls total and one got maid of honor. Which suited him just fine because he didn't want to have a large wedding. He didn't have a particular design in mind for his tuxedo. Itachi as his best man would be getting the tuxedos for himself, Suigetsu, and Juugo.
They exited the Porsche SUV and walked through the fashion house glass doors. It was absolutely breathtaking with a huge crystal chandelier at the center and a spiraling staircase tucked in a corner. It was decorated in jewel tones and was filled with life, very different from the other fashion stores he'd ever seen.
They let the representative at the front know that they were there for an appointment and decided to browse around as they waited.
The first floor displayed numerous dresses, some pieces from previous collections for the public to see, and the current collection. Sasuke touched the fabric, admiring the perfect stitching and embroidery. It was flawless. Like works of art that should be in a damn museum.
A gorgeous brunette with her hair pulled in a high bun and dangling pearls met them at the front. Sakura eyed the fitted lavender two-piece suit and wondered if her outfit was more expensive than the employees. She was quite fond of her pink Gucci GG monogram wool dress. It was Gucci for fucks sake!
"Hello! I'm Hinata. You're the Uchiha correct?"
Sakura shook her hand, "Yes! I'm Sakura and this is my fiancé Sasuke."
Hinata was about to ask about the little girl standing right there but changed her mind when she saw the annoyed glare Sasuke sent Sakura. It seemed he didn't like that she brushed over the girl either.
Instead she kept her professional smile, "What brings you in today?"
Sakura brought out her notebook from her Gucci purse, "We're looking for dresses and a tuxedo."
Hinata grabbed her measuring tape hanging around her neck and led them upstairs to the second floor, "Okay, I'll take your measurements and bring in some sample pieces so we can brainstorm."
Sakura clenched her jaw, "I thought we were meeting the designer?"
Hinata nodded, "Yes, I'll be starting with the basics and then he will come."
The second floor was equally as amazing, filled with pristine panes of glass, golden vine arches, and another incredible chandelier. Sasuke really liked the interior decorations.
30 minutes later after taking the measurements of the couple, Hinata waved over the designer who was jogging down the stairs.
A drop-dead gorgeous blonde with the most beautiful eyes Sasuke had ever seen waltzed into the room. He was wearing fitted high-waisted black slacks with one thin burnt orange stripe on each side, a black cashmere sweater tucked into the slacks and a burnt orange Hermès belt, sinching his waist perfectly, and burnt orange Prada loafers.
Sasuke had never seen someone wear orange so fucking perfectly. Such a horrendous color on anyone else looked impeccable on him.
Sakura on the other hand was impressed at the brands Naruto was wearing. Hermès was the epitome of expensive and had been insisting Sasuke buy her a Birkin for months.
He gave them all a welcoming grin and walked up to them, crouching down and greeting Aiko first, "Hello beautiful!"
The little girl beamed, "Hi! I'm Aiko."
His grin grew, "Are you sure you're not Princess Aiko?"
Aiko shrugged and tugged Sasuke's shirt, "Daddy says I am."
Naruto nodded in mock seriousness, "Well he's right!"
Sakura pointedly cleared her throat, "Hi, I'm Sakura, we're here for my dresses."
Naruto winked at Aiko then stood up and turned to the couple, "Nice to meet you. I'm Naruto Uzumaki."
Sapphire eyes looked at Sasuke expectantly and that's when Sasuke realized he'd been frozen for a while. He'd never seen Aiko sparkle like that with anyone besides her family.
"Sasuke Uchiha." He felt something swirl in his stomach as he took in the beauty in front of him. The orange eyeshadow and thin black eyeliner standing out against his hypnotizing eyes. His long golden hair in a ponytail with a braid running down the side and tucked into it.
He waved them over, "Follow me, we can go to my office." They went up the final spiral staircase and past the embroidered wooden door.
The office was a mess and so incredibly him with a luxurious desk at the center, a workspace on one side filled with numerous textiles, thread, and materials. A cozy amethyst-colored couch tucked in a corner with a contemporary asymmetrical glass table in the middle.
He turned to Aiko, "If your parents are okay with it, you can color if you want."
Aiko huffed (which to Sasuke sounded exactly like Karin's), "Only daddy. She not mommy."
Naruto let out a silent oh and turned to Sasuke, "Is it okay?" Sasuke nodded in approval.
He led Aiko to the couch, "You can use my special markers but promise you'll put the cap on when you're done?"
Aiko nodded seriously, "Promise."
Naruto grinned, "Thank you."
Once Aiko got settled as was about to start coloring, Naruto whispered something to her then moved to his desk and took a seat.
He clapped his hands together, "So, what design are you looking for?"
Sakura pulled out her notebook and phone, "Hinata showed us the pieces you presented in Milan Fashion Week last year and I really liked these two. I wanted to add more flowers and this light pink color. Lots and lots of pink for the dresses."
Naruto diligently took notes already picturing the fabric and styles he felt would suit her measurements.
"And one tuxedo?"
Sasuke answered before Sakura could, "Yes for me."
Naruto nodded, "When's the wedding?"
Sakura giggled, "In three months."
During the entire talk, Sasuke couldn't take his eyes away from Naruto. The blond was mesmerizing. He spoke with such passion about his work. He was made for this.
This up-close Sasuke could see the curve of the plump lips when he spoke, the pearly white teeth of his smile. The long fingers twirling sketching marker and muscular forearms where he'd pulled back his sleeves. He was like a priceless chiseled Greek statue.
"I think I have everything but – ", he looked at his notes, "– what about Aiko?"
Sakura narrowed her jade eyes, "What about her?"
Naruto tilted his head to the side, "Is she not part of the wedding?"
Sasuke scoffed, "Yes, of course, she is."
Sakura pursed her lips and looked to her fiancé in distaste, "We never talked about it."
He snarled, "She's my daughter."
Sakura tightly smiled, "We can get her something from somewhere else. Naruto doesn't make gowns for kids."
Naruto interjected, "It's true I usually don't but I'd love to make her one. On the house." He gave Sasuke a dazzling smile.
Aiko was so damn precious in Naruto's eyes. She was so polite and sweet. She had the face of an angel with her long dark wavy hair, button nose, dimples, and big dark eyes with long eyelashes. She was wearing a white sundress! She might as well be an angel.
Naruto couldn't help but feel the spike of irritation at the way Sakura dismissed Aiko.
Naruto's biggest dream in life was to have kids. He'd always longed to have a big family and this here girl was acting like Aiko was an afterthought.
Sasuke felt his jaw drop. He would do that for them? "Really? Yes. Definitely. Thank you."
Naruto beamed, "Aiko. Come here."
Aiko ran over and held out her picture, "I made this for you!"
"This is incredible angel! Is this your favorite color?" He pointed to the various shades of purple flowers and butterflies all over the page. He'd had her draw a dress with her favorite colors and shapes. He was glad the idea came to him earlier since Sakura hadn't taken her into consideration when thinking of dress ideas.
She jumped in excitement, "Mhm!"
Naruto leaned forward, "Your daddy said I could make a special dress for you. Is that okay?"
Aiko looked at Sasuke with wide tear-brimmed eyes and whispered, "Really?" She looked shaken to her core and Naruto just wanted to pick her up and hold her against his chest. He stole a glance at Sakura, wondering about her reaction but she was uninterestedly scrolling through her phone.
Sasuke warmly smiled and poked her forehead, "Of course."
Aiko gasped and turned to Naruto, "Yes yes please mister!"
Naruto laughed, "You got it!" He turned towards the couple. "Hinata will contact you on fittings so everyone can come in and we can make alterations. Is this your contact number?"
They looked over the paperwork then signed.
"Great! Thanks for coming."
Aiko waved to Naruto, "Bye mister!"
"Bye, princess!"
As Sakura chatted away about the appointment during the drive, he couldn't help but think about the blonde. The way his eyes glimmered as he spoke about his designs, the soft smiles he sent to Aiko, the way he included her in everything.
He couldn't but feel a sting in his heart when he remembered that Sakura never really did that with Aiko. She wasn't rude to her by any means, but she just treated her as just being there. Like a houseplant, she needed to occasionally water.
Sasuke dropped Sakura off at her parent's home and felt a sigh of relief blossoming in his chest. Now he could just spend time with his daughter. Not worry about providing them equal attention so Sakura didn't feel upset that she didn't have his undivided attention.
"Daddy."
He looked through the rearview mirror and met Aiko's stare, "Yeah princess?"
"I liked Ruto, he was suuuuper nice!"
Sasuke chuckled, "I liked him too." It felt so damn nice to say that out loud.
"Can he come play with me?"
"I – don't know sweetheart. Probably not."
She pouted, "Oh. Okay."
He hated disappointing her, but he couldn't really find an excuse for them to see him outside of his design. No matter how much he really wanted to get to know Naruto.
