Wrapping Up
"So they want to turn them into an anime?" Bou-san remarked as he plugged the camera in and turned it on.
"Apparently. Who knew it would be so popular?" Mai smiled, moving to adjust the angle of the camera per the instructions coming over the headphones.
"Are they going to base it off of the books directly or the manga that they published?" he asked, standing up.
"Probably the manga. I provided a couple of short stories for the adaptation so it will give them more to work with. I've also already approved of the artwork for Aiya and the group for the manga so it does make sense."
"I suppose," the monk agreed before reading off the temperature for Mai to mark down on the clipboard.
"Regardless, the extra income will be nice. Who knew being an author would help me fund SPR one day?"
"I'm sure Naru-bou appreciates it."
"Excuse me, Shibuya-san?"
Mai looked over to the middle-school girl in the doorway, daughter of the client. "Yes, Haru-chan?"
"Um, that series you were talking about, it is the ghost hunting one, right?"
"Yes."
"Did…did you write it?"
"Oh, yes," Mai replied, slightly startled. "Well, the original books anyway."
"Oh my! That is amazing! I am such a big fan! But, I thought your name was Taniyama-sensei?"
"That was my name before I married. I still publish under it so people don't get confused."
"Wait, does that mean that Shibuya-san, your husband I mean, is the basis for Ichiya?"
"How did you come to that conclusion?" Bou-san laughed.
"Well, um, I noticed when I saw his business card that the kanji was the same as Ichiya's and I just….."
"She really is a fan if she noticed that," he laughed heading out of the room ahead of Mai, no doubt to tell the others.
"I really am! I can't believe that you are actually here! Does this mean our house might be in one of your stories one day?"
"Well, I am glad that you like my books. However, I hope that your house isn't in one of them because usually those are bad cases and I wouldn't want anything to happen to you or your family, Haru-chan."
Mai smiled at the thoughtful look on the girl's face. "I guess so. But, um, can I ask you for a favor?"
"What is it?"
"Can, um, can you sign one of my books?"
Laughing, Mai nodded. "Sure. I am just about to head back to base. Why don't you bring it there and you can have everyone sign it. After all, they are all in those books one way or the other."
The look of delight as the girl rushed away kept a grin on Mai's face as she entered the base.
"Finding fame at last?" Naru commented dryly, not even bothering to look away from what he was reading.
"Well, it's nice to have someone appreciate me," she responded, sticking her tongue out at him.
At that, Naru rolled his eyes and put the file down as he stood up. "Fishing for compliments is never attractive, Mai." He walked over to her smoothly and leaned down to whisper in her ear. "Especially when you know exactly how appreciative of you I am."
Unable to prevent her blush as she met the eyes of their coworkers, Mai laughed, happy to turn and meet her young fan at the door. For something she had started on a whim, they had done a lot for her and Mai couldn't help but grin as she signed the worn copy of the very book that had brought everything full circle again.
Author's Note:
Well, I've never actually written smut before. This was kind of a challenge to myself, both to see if I could do it and because my husband wanted to see what I would produce. Hopefully it is okay. I've been meaning to try my hand at it for over a decade. (In fact, it is part of why I started writing for Hellsing ironically.)
Still, this little plot bunny just came up one night and I thought it would be fun to write out. Hopefully you enjoyed reading it!
I also, for once, enjoyed writing the chapter titles. Normally, I hate coming up with them. This is why I like Ghost Hunt so much, I think. I can just use dates or Day 1, Day 2 etc. Glorious.
I am currently drowning in educational stupidity so I have not had time to write anything for a while (this has been done for weeks). However, after next week, I should start seeing more breathing room so hopefully I can start posting the next story in my main series, Abusement Park (because I do love coming up with story names).
Til next time!
