It didn't help matters that Adalind was feeling self conscious and insecure due to recently giving birth.
Adalind had also had her own streak of jealousy her whole life. Being neglected, used, and abused could do that to a person.
Not receiving unconditional love until the last five years could also have an effect on a person's self esteem.
So when she saw the photos that were obviously taken at the bachelor party Nick was attending, she became consumed with rage.
Someone had decided to post images of the going on at the party all over social media.
Most of them depicted multiple men surrounding a woman wearing only a tiny thong and glitter all over her body.
In a lot of the images, she was laying on a table while the guys took turns drinking out of her belly button or licking something off of her nipples.
If Adalind had known this type of behavior would have been going on, she would have loudly objected to her husband attending the party.
But she had assured him she would be fine with the kids, and that he should go have fun with his coworkers. Something grimm work and family life rarely allowed him to do.
"I just gave birth to his daughter seven weeks ago, and he goes and …" Adalind felt on the verge of tears.
Adalind maintained self control only because she didn't want to wake the kids, who were all sleeping soundly. But every part of her wanted to destroy everything in sight. Especially everything that belonged to Nick.
Just as she was contemplating grabbing Nick's stuff and throwing them out of the window, the man in question walked through their front door.
He didn't look the least bit guilty.
"Photos of that bachelor party were posted online." Adalind told her husband. "I think it's disgusting what was going on."
"I agree. That's why I left early. I had no interest in risking my marriage."
Adalind was taken off guard by his words, allowing him the opportunity to pull her into his arms.
She realized that he didn't smell like another woman. He didn't even have the smell of alcohol on him. And if his face had been touching any part of the woman, he would have glitter on it. But there wasn't a speck to be seen.
"This is much better." Nick sighed, burying his face in Adalind hair, inhaling her scent. "I thought I was going to be sick. The way those guys were acting. Most of them are married. A few who aren't married are in serious relationships. I can't imagine risking the best thing to ever happen to be for the sake of a cheap thrill.
The more Nick explained the more Adalind realized she was upset over nothing.
Nick had not even been in any of the photos. Which on it's own would not have been proof, but the fact that he was home so early certainly was.
She should have more faith in the man she married.
Her only excuse for jumping to the wrong conclusion that she could give was that she was still dealing with post pregnancy hormones.
But Nick didn't seem to care about her little outburst. All he wanted was to hold his beloved wife. He loved her and would never put what they had in danger.
"How about we go to bed? I have a few ways to get rid of those horrible images from your mind."
The next day, Nick got home from work, greeted Adalind with a kiss to her cheek and announced,
"Jeff's fiancé called off the wedding. Her entire family saw the photos of his bachelor party and her dad is threatening to sue him for the cost of the wedding."
"Serves him right." Adalind was completely unsympathetic to the man's plight.
Nick nodded in agreement.
"Some of the married officers who were there and in the photos are in hot water with their wives. Two are relegated to the couch for the foreseeable future. One is staying with his parents. Apparently, more women came after I left. Women who offered more than just a show. Vows ended up getting broken. I know this because they asked if I could get you to help them out. They're all afraid a devorce is in their future."
"And what did you say to them?"
Nick gave a cheeky grin. "I told them you saw the photos, too. That if you offer your legal services to anybody, it would be their wives."
Adalind reached up and pecked Nick on the lips with her own. "Good boy. Looks like you'll be sleeping in a nice warm bed while they're all stuck in the doghouse."
"In more ways than one. Renard, the Chief of Police, the DA, and the Mayor are all upset about officer's of the law publicly engaged in vulgar behavior. It's not helping the image of the police department. And then for it to be revealed that they solicited sex. Internal affairs is conducting an investigation. If those who paid for sex don't get fired or suspended, they might end up demoted, transferred, or chained to a desk for the rest of their careers."
Nick shook his head as she wrapped his arms over his wife's form.
"Marriage and career are over because they couldn't keep their hands off of a stranger, just because they thought she was attractive. I will never understand people who always want something more, even when everything that makes their life perfect is waiting for them at home."
Adalind wrapped her arms around Nick's neck. "That's because you're a good man. Too many are greedy. They're willing to gamble it all for a chance to have just one more."
He tightened his hold on her. "There is nothing in existence that would be worth losing you."
Their lips met in a slow languid kiss that was all about enjoying the feel and taste of the other.
The only thing that was able to pull them away from one another was the sound of the other best thing to happen in their lives.
"Mommy? Daddy? What's for dinner? I'm hungry." Kelly walked in and asked.
"The pizza should be here soon, baby." Adalind told her and Nick's son.
"Pizza?" Nick asked in surprise.
"Yep, with extra pepperoni and extra sausage." She leaned up and whispered seductively in his ear. "I wanted to make up for jumping to the wrong conclusions. I should know that you're not the cheating kind."
"I thought you more than made up for it last night."
Though Nick certainly had no intention of objecting to any way his amazing wife wanted to show her appreciation of him.
Especially when she said, "I ordered some extra cannoli cream. There are a few spots I know you'll enjoy licking it from."
