Theresa Rubel, whom everyone called Trubel, was nervous as she made her way to Portland.

She had some news for the people she considered family, and she really hoped they took it well.

The person whose opinion she valued most was Nick, and while he had always proven to be an open minded person, she still couldn't help but worry.

"Trubel's here!" Kelly called out, running up and hugging the female grimm.

The rest of the family came up to greet her, Nick taking her bags from her to carry them to her designated room.

Just like every time before, she was surrounded by love. The entire family made it very obvious they were happy to have her there.

As much as Trubel appreciated it, this time it made her scared.

She worried it would be the last time she would be accepted by the family.

Trubel's favorite meal was made but she could barely eat it.

"Trubel, what's wrong?" Adalind asked in her concerned mom voice.

The younger grimm met the eyes of her mentor and he seemed to understand.

"Trubel, I want to show you something I've been working on in my shed. Would you like to see it?" Nick offered.

Trubel nodded, grateful, and followed him out. It seemed that all of the emotional moments happened in a garage of some kind.

When they got to his workshop, Nick didn't say a thing, he just looked at his protégé expectantly.

Taking a deep breath, Trubel confessed what had been haunting her for a while.

"I've met someone. It's really serious. I think I'm in love. With a wesen. Just like you." Tears were beginning to form in Trubel's eyes as she worked up the nerve to confess the rest of it.

Her stomach felt like it had twisted itself in knots.

She felt like she had a whole mountain on her chest, making it hard to breathe.

She inhaled deeply, bracing herself for the worst.

"So what's her name?"

And just like that, Nick once again made the damn burst.

Tears flowed freely from Trubel's eyes and she launched herself at Nick, who wrapped her tightly in his arms.

"Her name's Sonja. She's a seltenvogel. I saved her from some guys who were trying to take her to make her grow a gold egg."

"I look forward to meeting her."

Her head was still buried in his shoulder, so she couldn't see Nick's smile, but she could hear it in his voice.

He held her as the tears ran their course. Once she had regained her composure, he loosened his hold as she pulled away.

"I guess now I need to tell Adalind. And then everybody else." Trubel said with a watery laugh.

"Well, don't get yourself worked up again. There's really no need."

She looked at him with a puzzled expression, but all Nick would do was smile and guide her back into the house.

Adalind looked up expectantly when the two grimms entered. She and Nick must have communicated through their eyes because she immediately relaxed with a smile on her face.

"Do you want me to heat up your plate for you?"

"No, there's something I need to tell you first."

Trubel looked at the kids, then looked at Nick, a question on her face.

"Go ahead. This is not something that needs to be hidden from kids. The world is diverse. Adalind and I have been teaching them that since day one."

Nick's statement fully confirmed to Adalind what she had been suspecting. The hexenbiest jumped out of her chair, ran to Trubel, putting her arms around her tightly and said with a delighted voice, "You've met someone! Oh, that's wonderful! What's her name?! What is she like?! Is she wesen?!"

Surprised at the reaction, Trubel couldn't help but blurt out, "Sonja. She's wonderful. She's a seltenvogel."

Something in Trubel's voice must have clued the hexenbiest into the anxiety she had been feeling. Because she pulled away with wide eyes and said,

"Oh, honey, were you worried? I'm sorry, I must have never mentioned it before. I have been a strong advocate for equal rights since I was a teenager. As a lawyer I have fought to end discrimination. And I have had quite a few friends are are non cis."

After the two women had hugged for a while, Nick asked, "So, has your appetite returned or are you still worried about how Monroe, Rosalee, Hank, and Wu might react?"

"Nick, don't stress the poor girl out more." Adalind scolded her husband.

With the smiles Nick and Adalind were exchanging, Trubel realized that everything was going to be alright.

Sure enough, When Nick sent out a group message that Trubel had some big news to share, the replies revealed what Trubel should have known.

The entire grimm gang was very perceptive.

"Did she finally come out?" Was Monroe's reply. "You would have thought she would have found Narnia for how long she was in there."

Rosalee's message was a little more tactful. "Tell her we love and support her. That we fully accept her for who she is and look forward to meeting anyone she deems fit to bring home.

Hank's response was an offering of help. "If she needs to know where to meet nice women, I know a few places and can take her."

When Nick told everyone that Trubel was already dating someone, Wu asked, "Is she wesen?"

Trubel got onto the chat and confirmed she was dating a seltenvogel. And explained she was a bird wesen with golden yellow feathers.

Monroe and Rosalee were amazed that Trubel had not only met the rare wesen, but that she was also dating one.

"Trubel is really following in Nick's footsteps. Dating a wesen. And it's a type of union that seemed really impossible." Wu commented.

Trubel could not smile any wider as her entire family let her know that they loved and accepted her. She felt on the brink of tears again, from the joy, relief and the feeling of overwhelming support.

"Well, now that you know we all love and accept you for all that you are, do you want to finally eat?" Nick asked.

Trubel nodded and sat back down at her place at the table. Adalind waved her hand and the food was instantly warmed.

Now that her news was finally revealed and she knew everything would be alright, Trubel's appetite came back in full force.

Nick chuckled. "Seriously, you were that worried about not being accepted? You falling in love with a woman is not even on the list of the strangest things to happen in this family. Proof of which, my wife just heated up your dinner with her magic. Obviously, normal means something very different for this family."

Trubel was too busy shoveling food into her mouth to reply.
