AUTHOR'S NOTE: Blaine is singing his own words to the tune of "Where, Oh, Where Has My Little Dog Gone?"
When Kurt gets home from rehearsal, it's late, almost 10 p.m. He can hear Blaine back in the cat's room, singing. They've let the cats out now, given them free reign to go wherever they'd like in the apartment. They still feed them in their room at night, though, and shut them in while they sleep. It works well and makes them all feel safe.
He tiptoes back to the cat's room, peeking in the door. There, he finds Blaine, lying on his back on the floor, Olive on his chest, her head resting between her paws as he pets the top of her head. Starlight and Lil are playing on the cat tree next to them.
Well, look at that. Olive, the cat that will never want snuggles. With a smile on his face, Kurt pulls out his phone and snaps a quick picture of Blaine and Olive, listening to what Blaine is singing to her.
"What, oh, what would I do without you? I love you, Olive, kitty. With your pretty gray fur and your adorable purr, I love you, Olive kitty."
Then, he turns his head, looking at Lil and Starlight, and begins to sing about them, too.
"What, oh, what would I do without you? I love you, Lil, my kitty. With your sparkly fur and your great big eyes, I love you, Lil, my kitty.
"What, oh, what would I do without you? I love you, my Starlight. With your star-dusty fur and your mischievous face, I love you, my Starlight."
When he starts in again, Kurt can't help but take a quick video, just to catch his verse about Olive. Then, he heads into the bedroom to change, delighted to see Blaine feeling a bit better. Fall is hard for him with all the cloudy days and pressure changes, and it makes Kurt happy to see his husband able to move around their apartment and play with his cats.
Just as he's about to send the video to his dad and Carole, he gets a Skype call from them.
"Hey, kid. What are you doing?"
"Just got home from rehearsal and finished changing."
"Lucky timing then," Burt says.
"Very."
They chat for a few minutes about nothing before Carole, who has come to sit right by Burt, asks, "So, where's your crazy husband? Working on his book?"
Kurt shakes his head. "Probably doing crazy things." He smiles and pauses, realizing Blaine's singing has stopped. "No. Actually, he's playing with the cats and being super cute. I'll send you the video I took. Hold on." He taps around on his phone for a minute. "There. You should have it now."
"They should have what?" Blaine asks, coming in just then with Starlight in his arms.
"I took a video of you singing to the cats," Kurt admits with a blush. "It was so cute. I had to."
"I didn't even know you heard that." Blaine sits down beside him and lets Starlight curl up in his favorite spot on his shoulder, purring loudly. "I do that all the time, sing to them."
"I think it's adorable. I think you're adorable."
"Me, too," Carole piped up. "You obviously love them, Blaine. It's sweet."
"They make my days so much more tolerable," Blaine admits. "Best birthday gifts ever."
"I'm so glad you love them," Kurt says, leaning over to give his husband a kiss. "Feeling better today?"
"Yeah. Better than yesterday. My legs are just kinda heavy feeling today."
"That's good."
"Well, kid," Burt says, "I don't want to keep you long, but Carole and I had some news we wanted to share."
"Okay. What is it?" Kurt asks with one final kiss to his husband's cheek and a soft, "I love you."
"There's two things. First, Carole and I got a cat of our own."
Carole, who had disappeared, sneaks into frame, holding up a little orange fluff ball. "Her name is Goldie. Short for Goldielocks. She's a rescue, just like your fur babies."
"Ever since Carole saw pictures of your three, she's wanted one," Burt says. "So, we filled out an application and brought her home yesterday. She's been tons of fun."
"She's cute," Blaine says. "I'm glad you get to share in the kitten love."
"Me, too. What's your other news?" Kurt asks.
"Well, what would you think about Carole and me moving to New York?"
