Neither Kurt or Blaine was feeling well. They had spent most of the weekend together at Ms. Fairy's Daycare Family Picnic, and because Blaine's big brother had come down with a cold on Sunday, it stood to reason that, by lunch time on Monday, both Kurt and Blaine were feeling poorly, too. They were laying on a cot in Ms. Fairy's office, snuggled up, foreheads pressed together. Ms. Fairy had said she really should bring in another cot for them. That had been a while ago, though, and they didn't mind snuggling.
"Bwainers, how you is feelin'?" Kurt asked with a sniffle, his little voice sounding rather husky.
"No' so good," Blaine answered sadly, letting out his own sad little sniffle. "My head hurts, an' my nose feews all snuffy."
Kurt nodded a little. "Me, too. An 'm weally sweepy."
"Wish my mommy was here to sing me," Blaine whispered.
"'M sowwy, Bwainers," Kurt sympathized, rubbing at his back with his little hand. "Ms. Fairy sayed she is comin' soon, I fink. My daddy is comin' for me."
"My daddy goed on a twip today," Blaine explained. "He does dat sometimes. He bwings me pwesents when he comes back, too, sometimes. Yike yast time, he bwinged me a car dat yooked jus' yike his."
"Dat's cool."
"Uh-huh. An' he makeded some cool car noises when he driveded it wif me."
"My daddy does dat, too," Kurt told him. "I yike his car noises. An' when he 'tends to be a horsey."
They both giggled at that then went quiet for a minute, both of them feeling very tired. Their eyes were open, only barely, and they were staring at each other, though not really seeing one another. There was no noise except for the little fan Ms. Fairy always had running on her desk.
Kurt could feel Blaine tense up next to him, and he opened his eyes a little wider. Just as he was about to ask what was wrong, Blaine sneezed so loudly, it sent Kurt tumbling off the cot.
"AAAAAAAACHOO!"
For a moment, Kurt didn't know what to do. He was surprised by the explosive noise that had just come out of his friend, and he wasn't sure what to do with himself. He hadn't hit his head, but his bum had landed pretty hard against the floor, and that hurt. Still, he wanted to make sure Blaine was okay. He was about to crawl up next to his friend again when it happened once more.
"AAAAAAAACHOO!"
This time, Kurt didn't move; the force of the sneeze made Blaine's head wobble a little, however, and tears leaked out of the corner's of his eyes as he put his hand on his forehead, moaning, "It hurted…"
"Is you okay, Bwainers?" Kurt whispered, looking around for something to help his sad friend. He caught sight of a box of tissues on Ms. Fairy's desk, and he got up to get one, bringing it back to his friend. "You wanna wipe you nose?" he asked softly.
Blaine nodded, still crying, and took the tissue, swiping it a few times across his nose. He wasn't really sure if he got anything. That's what his mommy always did after a big sneeze, though, and it did help him feel a little bit better.
Kurt picked up the used tissue and tossed it into the trash can like his mommy told him was polite. Then, he looked around, wanting something more to help Blaine. His friend was still sad and not feeling well, and though Kurt didn't feel well either, he wanted to make Blaine feel better. A moment later, he saw a bucket of toys in the corner of the office. He climbed over Blaine and knelt by the bucket, digging through it until he found a little stuffed dog and a little stuffed cat. Grabbing them both, he came back over to the cot and laid down. "Wan' a puppy, Bwainers?" he asked, offering him the toy. "Or you can has dis nice kitty?"
"Puppy," Blaine replied, reaching out for it and snuggling it against his chest.
Snuggling back up until he was pressed against Blaine again, Kurt pulled the blanket Ms. Fairy had given them up under their chins and then gave Blaine's forehead a little kiss. He didn't know if he was 'posed to, but his mommy did it a lot when he felt sick. It always helped.
Blaine smiled at him. "Fank you, Kurt," he whispered. "You tell me story 'bout puppy an' kitty?"
"Otay," Kurt replied, thinking. "Once uppona time, dere was a yittle kitty who yived in a big, big house. An' he 'cided he wanted p'ay wif his bestest fwiend, Puppy. So, he goed to Puppy's house and knockeded onna door. He sayed, 'Puppy! Come ou'side and p'ay wif me.' So, Puppy did, an' him an' Kitty had a vewwy good time. Dey swingeded an' p'ayed inna sand an' eated a yummy snack. Den, Kitty goed home to sweep so him an' Puppy could p'ay again yater the tomowoah day. Da en'."
"Dat a good stowy, Kurt," Blaine said sleepily, yawning. Then, he grabbed Kurt's hand, holding on to it as tightly as he was holding the puppy, and a few moments later, he was asleep.
Kurt smiled, giving Blaine's forehead another little kiss since he'd liked the first one. His eyes were feeling heavy, too, and he wondered how much longer it would be before his daddy came for him. Deciding it didn't matter, he squeezed Blaine's hand a little tighter then let his eyes close, his other hand reaching out to rest on Blaine's hip.
That's how Ms. Fairy, Burt, and Pam found them when they all came into the office a half an hour later to pick them up.
"Aren't they just so sweet?" Ms. Fairy asked, smiling at the two parents.
"Yeah. They really are," Burt agreed, flashing Pam a grin.
"I think these boys might be a little closer than we think," Pam replied, pulling out her phone to take a quick picture before letting Burt scoop up Kurt to take him home.
Neither of the boys woke when their parents picked them up, but they did unconsciously reach for one another as they were parted, whimpering just a little before going back to sleep.
"I think you're right," Burt whispered to Pam as they climbed the stairs, headed back to their cars. "I think these boys just might be sweet on each other."
