Now, let's get back to our story!

Dolly Messes Up

Gavin let out a laugh as he ran around the backyard, running away from some of the pups in a game of tag. He was having a lot of fun with them, and the pups were as well, laughing happily as they chased him.

The backyard of the house was quite large, with an orange brick wall with wooden fencing on the top of it, a small wooden trestle on it, tall wooden fences on the left and right sides with empty purple flower trays and a mirror on the left fence, a mirror and a string of lights on the right fence, a shrub in the far right corner, a trampoline and empty charcoal grill sitting on opposite sides of the lawn, a small stone patio connected to the house, and a tall oak tree with white planks sticking like platforms acting as steps for a large purple and white treehouse with a telescope sticking out of the roof towards the sky.

As he ran by Dolly, she let out a groan as she watched him get tackled by the pups into the green grass. 'Why didn't he leave today?!' She exclaimed in her head as he let out a loud laugh, the pups tickling him on the sweet-smelling grass. 'I dirtied his room yesterday and knocked his breakfast into his face yesterday and today. I even "accidentally" tripped him on the stairs earlier just a few minutes ago. Yet he's still here!' She let out another groan of frustration as she wracked her brain for ideas. 'What am I going to have to do to get him out of here?!'

Gavin chuckled again as he was eventually tackled to the ground by the pups, his nose filled with the sweet smell of the grass. This had been a bit surprising to him when he saw the lawn for the first time, since he knew the dogs used the backyard to do their business. He'd assumed it would smell pretty bad, and there would be multiple stains and piles of dog poop on the ground.

But there weren't any at all.

When he'd mentioned it to Dilyn, she'd revealed they used pooper-scoopers all the time, and it rained a lot, so it helped keep the yard clean. They also made sure to take the kids to the park and other places as well to do their business, so they could give the backyard a rest.

"So, what game do you all want to play next?" He asked as he sat up on the ground.

"How about keep-away?" Dimitri 1 suggested, winking at his brothers as he said so, a plan in mind.

"Hmm, keep-away isn't a bad idea," He said after thinking about it for a few seconds, prompting the Dimitri's to whisper to each other for several seconds. "I'm fine with that."

"Alright then, let's start-now!" Dimitri 2 said as he grabbed Gavin's necklace, which came undone from around his neck a bit easily, and started running with it.

"Woahwoahwoah!" He exclaimed, quickly getting up and running after him with a slightly panicked look. "Not the necklace!" Dimitri 2 soon came to a stop upon hearing the worry in his voice, and let Gavin take his necklace back.

"Sorry," Dimitri 2 said, his head drooping a little. "We thought it wouldn't be a big deal."

"Well, it kind of is," Gavin replied. "This necklace means a lot to me, so I'd rather we not use it in keep-away." He then saw that Dimitri 2's head drooped lower upon hearing that. "Look, I'm not mad at you if that's what you're thinking. Just, don't take my necklace. Alright?"

"Alright," Dimitri 2 answered, feeling a bit better knowing that Gavin wasn't mad at him.

"Okay then, why don't I get a ball to-Aack!" He was cut off as most of the pups tackled him while chanting "Ball" over and over again. 'Another trigger word to add to the list,' He thought as he began to extricate himself from the puppy pile.

Dolly watched him pull himself out and go into the house to grab a ball, and grinned evilly once he left. 'I have the perfect idea on how to get rid of him now!' She thought, her evil grin growing wider.

"Dolly, why are you grinning like that?" A pup asked her, prompting her to forcefully make her grin disappear as she looked at the pup.

"What are you talking about? I'm not grinning, see?" She said with a forced flat look on her face.

The pup just stared at her for a few seconds, before rolling their eyes as they walked away, deciding to just chalk it up to Dolly being Dolly and not worry about it.

Once she was certain the pup had gone away, her grin returned as she watched Gavin come back outside with a ball in hand. "Alright guys, let's play Keep-Away," He said, before tossing the ball to the pups. "I'll be the one you keep it away from."

As he began playing with the pups once more, Dolly continued to watch him, waiting for the right moment to act. Gavin ran around the lawn with the pups with a smile on his face as he tried to get the ball from them. He really had to make an effort to even get close to the ball, as the pups were constantly running around him. When a pup who had just caught the ball tripped over their feet and dropped the ball, he lunged at the ball and grabbed it, before holding it up in the air with a smile on his face, a small amount of sweat starting to drip down his face.

"Alright. Finally, it's my turn to not be 'it,'" He said with a smirk, before tossing it to the group of pups who were also not "it." "Game on!"

Gavin continued to play Keep-Away with the pups for a while, before they decided they wanted to play British Bulldogs instead, which he didn't mind. He played with the pups for a couple of hours, before deciding to call it quits, feeling a bit worn out. "Alright, I think I've played enough," He said to the pups, who all whined with dismay, some even saying "Aw man!"

After getting up from the ground he had just been on, he realized that frankly, he could use a shower. There were dirt stains on his clothes, and he was sweating a good amount. "And I need to shower," He added, turning to go inside. "I'll be back in about 15 minutes."

As he went inside, Dolly grinned. Now was her chance!

She waited a couple minutes before getting off the ground and started heading towards the house.

"Dolly, where are you going?" Dilyn asked her, causing her to freeze in place as she quickly racked her mind for an excuse.

"Oh! Uhh, I'm gonna go hang out with Fia," She replied, mentally patting herself on the back for coming up with the good excuse. "See ya later!" She added before darting into the house

"Dolly! Wai-and she's gone," Dilyn said with a sigh upon seeing that she had left. 'Guess I'll confront her when she gets back,' She thought as she turned her attention back to the pups.

Dolly could hear the sound of running water coming from upstairs after entering the house, letting her know Gavin was already in the shower. 'Perfect!' She thought as she sneaked upstairs, grabbing her skateboard and helmet on the way up and putting her helmet on. Her helmet was black in color with a couple scuffs and scrapes on the sides and some random stickers on it, such as a red circle and green rectangle. Her skateboard was light blue in color, with a black tip at the back separated from the blue by three stripes, one yellow, one red, and one pink. It also had pink wheels with light blue centers.

She soon reached his bedroom and, after leaving her skateboard outside and entering it, saw that the bathroom door was shut. Seeing this, she grinned. Things seemed to be in favor for her. She slowly and carefully tiptoed across the floor towards the bed, not wanting to let Gavin know she was in the room. She then spotted her target sitting on the nightstand, and grinned. 'There you are!' She thought as she jumped up and grabbed the necklace before landing on her feet. She then put on top of her head underneath her helmet, hiding it from sight, before quickly tiptoeing out the room. She then grabbed her skateboard and quickly ran down the stairs.

Upon reaching the door, she put her paw on the paw scanner, and when the door was unlocked, pushed the door open before running outside, slamming the door shut behind her. She then hopped onto her skateboard and rolled off to the park with a grin.

As she got closer to the park, she frowned as she felt the necklace pressing into her head due to her helmet. 'As soon as I get to the park, I'm getting it off my head,' She thought as she maneuvered the board around some humans walking on the sidewalk, making them gasp with surprise as she passed them.

After a couple more minutes, she reached the park gates, and rolled on over to a trash can and took off her helmet, pulling off the necklace before placing her helmet back on. "Ah, that feels much better," She said as she looked at the necklace in her hand, the sunlight hitting it and making it glimmer. 'Huh, it's kind of…pretty,' She thought. 'I wonder if it would look good on me?' She then put the necklace on, tying it in a simple knot on her neck with some difficulty before hopping onto her skateboard and rolling over to the fountain.

When she got there, she looked down at her reflection in the water. "Hey, I look pretty good," Dolly said after looking at her reflection for several seconds, a smile growing on her face as she admired herself.

She then heard a familiar voice call out "Yo Dolly! How's it going?" Upon turning to see who had spoken, she smiled.

"Hey Fia! I'm doing fine," She said to the female fox. "How bout you?"

"Eh, I'm fine," Fia replied. She then spotted the necklace. "Yo Dolly, where'd you get that fine necklace?" She asked her.

"Oh! This thing?" Dolly answered her while mentally panicking. "I, uh, found it on the street on my way over here!" She lied, causing Fia to arch an eyebrow. "Yeah, I found it on the ground. Guess some rich human didn't want it anymore."

The Irish fox continued to stare at her for several seconds, making her feel increasingly more nervous. 'Crap! She doesn't believe me,' Dolly thought with worry. 'She knows I didn't find it there.'

"Well I must say, a very nice find Dolly!" Fia replied, causing Dolly to inwardly sigh with relief. "I can't believe a human would throw away such a beautiful necklace. It looks pretty expensive."

"I-I know, right?" Dolly answered her.

"You know, me and my friends have found some expensive stuff in the garbage before," Fia told her. "Big Fee found a gold ring one time, and part of a pearl necklace another."

"Wow, really?" Dolly asked as she began rolling over to the skate park, Fia walking alongside her as they went. "What'd she do with them?

"She kept the ring, but pawned the necklace," Fia replied. "Gave her enough cash to buy some food for us."

"Oh," Dolly said. "Speaking of which, do you think this looks good on me?" She asked her, gesturing to the necklace with a paw.

"I think it looks quite fine on you Dolly," Fia replied with a smile. "Very nice indeed."

"Great!" Dolly said with a grin. They then arrived at the skate park, and she began to perform some skateboard tricks.

First trick she did was a version of the classic "Kickflip." She pushed herself and the skateboard over the edge while thinking 'Oh yeah!' Once she got enough speed, she jumped up and slid her front feet off the skateboard diagonally forward and towards the tip of the board. She then yelled out "Oh yeah!" as she landed back on the board, stopping its spinning and completing the trick.

Another trick she did was the "kickturn." For this trick, she pressed one of her back paws on the tail of the board to raise the nose, before turning the board in a different direction.

She continued to skate at the park for the next hour, performing various tricks during that time. Eventually though, she stopped to take a break, and her stomach growled.

"Well Fia, I better head home," She said to the fox, who had been taking a nap. "See ya later."

"Later Dolly," Fia replied before curling up once more to nap, while Dolly got on her skateboard and rolled out of the park, making sure to hide the necklace under her helmet.

When she got back home, she could hear and smell kibble being dispensed for lunch time, making her stomach growl even more with hunger. "Man I'm hungry," She said as she ran upstairs and put away her helmet and skateboard, before turning to her bed, which was located on a mantle. She lifted up the red and pink checkered soft blanket that made up the mattress, and put the necklace underneath it, before setting the mattress back down.

Once she was done, she leapt off the mantle down to the floor, and made her way to the dining room, where she saw that many pups were already eating. She quickly made her way over to where she normally sat at, and once the bowl before her was filled, began to eat.

As she ate, Dizzy and Dee Dee, who had finished eating a few minutes earlier, came up to her.

"Dolly," Dizzy began.

"Do you know where Gavin's necklace is?" Dee Dee continued, causing Dolly's eyes to widen slightly and her heart to begin racing.

"Uh, no," Dolly replied as she stuffed her mouth with more food, trying to keep herself from talking as little as possible.

"Oh, that's too bad," Dee Dee said with a sad look on her face.

"It sure is Dee Dee," Dizzy added with a similar look. "Gavin won't be happy. See ya later Dolly."

As the two pups left the room, Dolly thought over what she had just heard. 'Gavin's not happy about his necklace being gone? Good. Maybe he'll leave,' She thought happily as she continued to eat, happy her plan was apparently working.

After a few minutes had passed, she'd finished eating, and started heading towards the stairs, wanting to see just how upset Gavin was.

When she arrived at his room, she peeked her head into the room, and saw that it was a mess. All the books from the bookshelf were on the floor, while video games and movies lay in front of the entertainment center. His sheets were off the bed, and all drawers had been emptied of their contents.

'Wow,' Dolly thought as she stared at the room with slight surprise on her face. 'I don't know what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting this.'

Then, Gavin stepped out of the bathroom. And he looked like he had been crying.

"Oh, hey Dolly," he said, his voice sounding a bit emotional. "I'm guessing you heard the news about my necklace?"

Dolly nodded, not speaking as she was afraid her nerves would get the better of her and make him suspicious.

"Yeah, I don't know how I lost it," He replied as he stood there, a sad look on his face. "But I did. And I've spent the whole day searching for it."

"You have?" Dolly said, surprise in her voice. "But it's just a stupid necklace. Why not just go out and get a new one?" Dolly continued with a roll of her eyes, causing Gavin to stiffen upon hearing her. 'Or leave the house forever,' She thought to herself.

He stood there for several seconds, Dolly's words echoing in his mind. 'It's just a stupid necklace?' He thought with shock. He soon managed to find his voice, and shakily replied, "B-because I got it from my family. It's the only thing I have left of them."

Dolly's eyes went very wide at that. "W-what?" She said with shock, having not expected to hear that.

Gavin sighed, his sad look on his face getting worse. "When I was found at New Beginnings Orphanage around the age of 10 months, the people there found two things on me: my necklace, and a letter left by whoever had brought me there," he explained. "The letter had my birthday and name in it, and told them that I had no living family. It also said that the necklace was a gift from my parents before they died. That's why it's so important to me."

It was dead silent at this point.

"Do you know how hard it was to grow up, not having any living relatives to come take care of you?" He asked her. She didn't respond, not sure she could even speak, she was so surprised. "It sucked."

"And I thought having dozens of siblings was hard. I couldn't see it from your point of view," Dolly said after several seconds had passed.

"Well, try to," he replied. "What you have with your family, I wanted so much when I was little. I had to wait for nine years to get adopted. That's three years longer than any kid at that orphanage had to wait."

"Oh," was all Dolly could say. This had not been what she had expected to happen after taking the necklace.

Not at all.

Gavin then sighed. "Just…go," He said to her, gesturing to the door. "I need to be alone." He then walked over to the recliner and sat down, not even waiting for her to leave.

Dolly stared at him for a few seconds, before doing so, slowly shutting the door behind her.

Dolly slowly walked away from the shut door, her head down and ears and tail drooped. 'I had no idea it was that important to him,' She thought as she headed down the hallway. 'I just thought the necklace was a flashy gift.'

She eventually arrived back at her room, and climbed up to where her bed was, before pulling out the necklace from under it. 'What am I going to do?' She thought as she stared at it.

"Dolly!"

"Gah!" She let out a cry of surprise as she jumped and looked at the door, seeing Dilyn standing there with a frown on her face, having quietly shut the door behind her.

"I can't believe it!" Dilyn said as she quickly walked over to the fireplace and sat down, looking up at her with her frown growing larger. "You took Gavin's necklace!"

Dolly opened her mouth to deny it, but nothing came out. She instead let out a heavy sigh, and looked down sadly at the necklace. "Yeah, I did," She replied.

"Did you really think that you taking the necklace was going to make him leave?" Dilyn asked her with a raised eyebrow. "How, exactly, would that work?"

Dolly sighed again. "I don't know," She confessed. "I didn't think that far ahead."

"Clearly you didn't," Dilyn said, putting her paws on her hips. "And now, you're going to fix this by bringing Gavin his necklace and apologizing for stealing it and dirtying his room yesterday."

"No, Dilyn, I can't do that!" Dolly replied as she jumped down and grabbed her by the shoulders, necklace dangling in one paw. "He'll hate me forever if I do that!"

"No he won't Dolly," Dilyn said with a shake of her head. "Sure he'll be upset for a while, but eventually he will forgive you."

"No, Dilyn, he won't!" Dolly snapped with a quick shake of her head. "It's not just a necklace to him. It's the only thing he has left of his birth family!"

Dilyn's eyes went wide upon hearing that. "Ohhh my doooggg!" She exclaimed upon hearing that. "This is not good. Not good at all!"

"I know!" Dolly replied, tears forming in her eyes. "I don't know what to do Dilyn! I don't *sniff* want him *sniff* to hate me forever!" She then began crying, hugging Dilyn hard as she did so.

As she cried, she felt Dilyn hug her back and began to pat her on the back. "Calm down Dolly," She said, having instantly broken out of her panicked state with Dolly's crying. "We'll think of something."

"Yeah, *sniff* but what?" She replied with a shaky voice as they let go of each other and she began rubbing the tears from her eyes.

"Hmmm," Dilyn hummed as she put a paw to her chin in thought. She did this for several seconds, before she smiled. "I got an idea."

Several minutes later…

Gavin sighed as he sat there in his recliner. 'Where could my necklace have gone?' He thought as he rocked the recliner. 'I've looked everywhere.' His eyes threatened to spill more tears as he sat there, fearing he might have lost his necklace forever.

*Knock! Knock!*

"I would like to be alone please," He called out.

*Knock! Knock! Knock! Knock! Knock!*

He sighed as the knocking continued for several more seconds, and got up from the chair. "Alright, alright. I'm coming," He said as he got to the door and opened it. "What do you wa…." He trailed off upon seeing what was sitting at his feet.

There, sitting neatly on top of a folded piece of white paper, was his necklace.

He instantly looked down the hallway to see who had left the necklace, but saw that there was no one there. Looking back at his necklace, his eyes began to tear up again, and he reached down to pick it and the piece of paper up, before heading back into his room, shutting the door behind him.

"It's back," he whispered happily as he sat down in the chair, holding the necklace in his hands tightly. "It's back." He then began to cry, tears of happiness pouring down his cheeks. He cried for several minutes, before he turned his attention to the folded paper in his lap. He slowly opened it, and saw that it was, in fact, a note.

It read:

Dear Gavin,

I'm sorry for taking your necklace. I didn't know it meant so much to you. I won't touch it again. I'm also sorry for dirtying your room. I won't do that ever again.

He sighed upon reading the note. "Well at least they apologized," he said to himself as he reread the note. "Wish I knew who it was though." He then turned his attention back to his necklace, and put it on his neck, right where it belonged, while smiling, happy to have his necklace back.

What he didn't realize was that Dilyn and Dolly had been listening in on him, and were now walking away towards the stairs, smiles on their faces.

As they reached the stairs and began going down them, Dolly thought, 'I won't ever take his necklace again.'

Well, this has been an interesting chapter!

Can't wait to write more!

Thought of one more possibility to add to harem: Portia Poodle, a goth like Dante, but a bit darker. What do you think?
