The next morning Rory woke up in Finn's arms, she just lay there looking at her ring and her fiance. She couldn't believe she was starting the year off engaged. It was going to be a busy year between helping Colin and Stephanie in the run up to their wedding, and starting to plan their own. Oh God Colin and Stephanie's wedding, and the HUntzbergers, and Emily and the Rose room. Rory's thoughts started to spiral rapidly.

"I can feel you thinking from over here, Kitten," Finn murmured sleepily.

"Finn, I wanted to talk to you about an idea." Rory asked hesitantly, propping herself on his chest.

"You have my full attention," he said, giving her forehead a kiss.

"You and Logan are both in Colin's wedding, you as groomsman, Logan as best man, and I'm one of Stephanie's bridesmaids. If our engagement is announced before that, Logan will freak, and could ruin the wedding with a big scene or tension. Colin has always wanted both of you involved, I don't want to ruin a decades old friendship on him. Would you be ok with us not doing an official announcement until after the wedding? We can tell family and still start to plan the wedding, or we can not tell anyone and start to plan the wedding so when we do tell family, we have made all the big decisions?" Rory rambled out.

"Wow, that's a lot of deep thinking for this early in the morning. Are you sure? That would mean keeping it quiet for months."

"Just until April. Just think, it means we could have everything planned, before we have to tell the grandparents and have them try to take over. It could work to our advantage."

"Do you want to discuss it with Colin and Stephanie first?"

"Might help to have someone in on the secret and to get their perspective?"

"Did anyone know you were planning on proposing?"

"My Mom and my sister, so probably my Dad too."

"Do you want to tell them? I'm okay with telling them, especially if you don't want them to think you have chickened out."

"Hey! It was probably the scariest thing I have ever done!" Finn exclaimed.

"Really? Why?"

"I wasn't sure if you would think it was too soon, what if you had said no, could we have survived that. I just had to hope I was right that we were both on the same page."

"We were, we are. I didn't think you would do it this early but I'm glad you did. I love you Finn, it was perfect." Rory said, kissing him.

"Good Morning Kitten, are we finished talking?"

"Do you want to be finished talking?" Rory asked, moving so she was above him.

"I can think of a lot of other ways to occupy my mouth right now."

"Why don't you show me?" And he did for the rest of the morning.

That evening was their last evening in Australia, they were flying home the next day. The plan was to have supper with Finn's family that night. As they were getting ready, Finn came out of the closet dressed to go and sat on the bed to watch Rory finish doing her makeup to leave.

"Rory?"

"Yes Finn?"

"How mad would you be if I said I had planned a two maybe three day detour for our way home?"

"It depends on whether by planned, you mean you told both of our assistants so our work won't be affected, or if you just mean you changed the plane tickets?"

"How about both?" he said tentatively.

"Then I'm in," she replied, walking over and pulling him up off the bed. "Come on Mr Morgan, it's time to tell your family about the new member to the Morgan crew."

"Mom, Dad, Olivia, We're here!" Finn shouted coming into their house.

"Finn, stop shouting, you would think one of the boarding schools would have taught him some manners!" Charlotte said, as she embraced Rory as a hello.

"Well Mom, then I think you will be glad to hear that I am now officially Rory's problem," Finn said, waving his fiance's hand in front of his Mom.

"Oh My God, FINNEGAN GET IN HERE! Oh My God, Rory I need another hug. Are you sure you want this guy? I think you might be too good for him," Charlotte said.

"I couldn't be more sure," Rory said, stepping back into the circle of Finn's arms.

"What's all the shouting about?" Olivia asked, walking into the room with her father.

"We are getting a new daughter," Charlotte opened with.

"He did it! Rory welcome to the family," Finnegan said, pulling her into his arms in a big bear hug.

"Are you sure you want my bonehead brother?" Olivia asked, "I want you as my sister but I think Finn's punching above his weight."

"Hey this isn't pick on Finn day!" Finn said with a pout.

"Of course it isn't sweetie," Rory said, giving him a kiss on the cheek, while rolling her eyes in Olivia's direction so she laughed.

"This is a cause for celebration, let's open the champagne, the tuna steak is almost finished on the grill." Finnegan said, leading them all out to the patio.

After supper talk turned towards engagement announcements, wedding planning and even moving plans.

"So have you thought about an engagement party or announcement?" Charlotte asked as they finished up dessert. Olivia had made a pavlova, which Rory was currently devouring her second slice of.

"We haven't fully decided. We are a little concerned about the knock on effect our announcement could have on Colin and Stephanie's wedding. Both of us and Logan are in the wedding parties. Logan has no idea that my girlfriend, well Fiancee is Rory. And we don't think he will take it well." Finn started.

"I ran into Logan and his wife before christmas at a function, and there were a lot of not so thinly veiled comments, and he interrogated my friend who accompanied me as to the nature of our relationship."

"We think we will discuss it with Colin and Steph, but we are considering starting planning but not telling anymore people about the engagement until after their wedding."

"It would reduce the Emily Gilmore meddling," Rory started, "but I don't know if I can take this gorgeous ring off."

"I can get you a chain to wear it around your neck," Finn said, kissing his fiancee on the cheek.

His parents were watching the couple interact, studying all the changes in their son, how he had matured and grown into a great partner for Rory.

"We could help with some under the radar planning if you would like, if not we are also ok to just show up on the day and party," Finnegan said, while Charlotte nodded her agreement.

"What about living arrangements? I know your places are very close right now but would you want to move into just one of them or get somewhere new?" Charlotte asked.

"I think I'd like to buy somewhere new that we both picked in New York, if Finn agreed of course." Rory said, looking at him, questioningly.

"Really? I thought you loved your place."

"I do but it's my least favourite house, I like yours better but it's not large enough for both of us, so I just thought we could choose somewhere new together. Emily picked and decorated my New York Apartment."

"Then how about we work on finding a new place before we start all the wedding planning and getting somewhere ready to move into once we announce the engagement?" Finn asked.

"Sounds like you have it all planned out," Finnegan said. "We'd like to buy your first marital home as a present, if you both agree."

Rory and Finn simultaneously protested. "That is way too much, you don't need to do that, we have our own money."

"We know we don't, but Rory's side will probably insist on paying for the wedding and we would really like to do this." Charlotte stated.

"How about we think about it and get back to you," Rory stated diplomatically.

"Okay everyone, that's enough heavy talk," Olivia said, "are you going to have anyone hot for me in the wedding party?"

With that the tension was broken and they all laughed and joked for the rest of the evening.

The next day Finn and Rory departed Sydney in the Morgan Jet. Finn had made the crew agree to keep the flight plan a secret from Rory so that she wouldn't find out where they were heading until they arrived.

"How long is the flight, Finn?"

"Trying to use that to work out where we are going from that Kitten? It's less than the flight from Sydney to LA would be. That's all I'm telling you for now. Come on let's go watch a movie." he said, tugging her towards one of the bigger couches after the seatbelt light was switched off.

Nine hours later and they were stepping onto the tarmac in Tokyo.

"Tokyo Finn? Oh My God!" Rory jumped into his arms, "I've always wanted to come here."

"I'm glad, I was hoping you wouldn't be disappointed by this surprise. Come on, let's go check into our hotel and we can go explore for the evening."

They spent the evening wandering around Ginza, walking around the department stores, and more individual stores, the harajuku styles. They ate a late dinner of sushi and noodles. They were both mesmerized by the whole area.

The following morning they woke up and Finn told Rory to dress comfortably for the day. Once she was dressed, he dragged her down into the car he had hired to take them around for the day.

"First stop of the day, we are going to embrace your inner Lorelai," Finn said.

"What Finn? I don't understand."

"I think you will understand in two minutes," Finn said as the car stopped, and he pulled her out.

"Hello Kitty Land! Oh My God, I didn't even know this existed."

"Let's go! See how kitschy we can get." Finn took her by the hand as they walked into Hello Kitty Land. They got their pictures taken with Hello Kitty in multiple outfits, shopped for Lorelai a lot, wandered around the park and people watched which was as much of an experience as the rest.

That afternoon Finn had arranged for them to go on a Mario kart tour, where a tour guide leads you around tokyo in a go kart dressed as a Mario character. Finn dressed up as Yoshi, while Rory wanted to be Princess Peach.

"Oh My God Finn, this is so much fun," Rory exclaimed as they pulled up to a temple in their go karts.

"I shocked myself with this one, that I managed to find something this silly and fun, that also included the culture I knew you would want to see on our first trip to Japan."

"First trip?"

"Hell yeah, this place is awesome, we are coming back here." Finn said, as the go karts continued around the city.

Their third and final day, involved a trip to Disneyland Tokyo.

"I broke with tradition here, Kitten, I hired us a guide. We only have one day, and the language barrier, I thought it might be for the best."

"I'm okay with that Finn, I actually agree with you. I don't know much about this park except that they have Cinderella's Castle."

"In tradition let's get our ears on!" Rory said, dragging him into a store before they met their guide. Finn picked a headband that had Donald Duck's feet on it, so it was like Donalds butt. So Rory picked a pair of blue polka dot daisy duck ears to go with Finn's Donald.

The first thing that they got their guide to do was take their picture in front of the Cinderella castle, so they could add it to their collection. The guide made sure they managed to ride all the rides at least once, some similar to other parks and some that were exclusive to Tokyo. Finn's favourite continued to be space mountain, while Rory really liked the Winnie the Pooh Honey Pot ride.

Tokyo Disneyland had a light up night time parade which the guide meant they had a great spot to view it and afterwards as the fireworks went off, they continued their tradition of kissing while they went off. The difference was that this time, their guide managed to get a spectacular picture of them kissing in front of the castle while fireworks went off around them. For that alone Finn gave the guide a well earned giant tip.

"Thank you Finn, you are continuing to make my dreams come true," Rory said as she snuggled into his arms as their plane left Tokyo and headed back towards the US and reality.

A/N Mario kart tours are a real thing! I wanna try it!
