Renesmee pov
I enter the school parking lot emerging from the nearby trees. Thanks to my vampire speed, I was able to leave home ten minutes before school started and get here with five minutes to spare.
After getting my schedule for me and my mom - sister - I head off to my locker, dumping some of my books in my locker.
This was my second time repeating high school, so at least I knew what I was expecting. I was going into grade 10 and was actually more excited the second time around. I know I can't really join any school sports, but my mom wasn't exactly here, so I ended up signing up for cheerleading teams tryouts in 4 days. I had Chemistry first, then Legal studies, and then Modern History, then lunch, then into Precalculus, Biology and Gym.
In my first class, I made a friend called Meliah. I never really made any friends, in fact, through all of high school last year I only ever made one semi-friend. Who my mom suggested I invite her over, but then I never saw her again. I swear it was like some biological imperative people had to not befriend me. Like, "BEWARE, STAY AWAY," or something like that was written in bold on my forehead. Meliah was in all my classes except biology and PE. So I got to get to know her quite well. And what she lacked in intelligence, she made up for in personality. She was funny and charismatic, and she had an opinion about everything. She was perceptive that for sure. Yet she wasn't bitchy or a gossip, but perceptive. Yes. Definity.
In Modern History, the teacher dosed off while we watched the first half of Romeo and Juliet, something I watched in eleventh grade at my last school. So Mel took it as a time to delve into the social dynamics of the school. "As sophomores, we are pretty much overlooked, but at least we can boss the Freshmen around. Then there's the sports juniors, musical juniors and then the people that kind of blend in, most of the seniors really just have their head down in books, aside from a few clowns that everyone likes and the sporty guys that most of us take fancy too."
"So it's a pretty normal school?" I ask.
"Well, then there's the others."
"The others?" I ask like she's talking about Regina George.
"Yeah, totally gorgeous freaks. The Cullens-"
"That's my last name!" I cut in excited. Of course, I was just a bogus name my mom put on our papers. We switched between Swan and Cullen as last names, to remain inconspicuous. But it's still kind of funny.
"Huh, no way! You could actually be one of them, you kind of look like them anyway. In that flawless kind of way. Anyway, the Cullens are basically high school royalty. People either want to be them or have sex with them, but that's basically impossible because they're all like together together."
"Their sibling though right?"
She tilted her head side to side like she was deliberating what she would say next. How could a yes or no answer be so complicated? "Well, no, not technically. Dr Cullen is like this Foster dad slash matchmaker. His wife had her nieces and nephews Emmet, Alice and Edward come live when them once their parents died, and Dr Cullen adopted the Hale twins Jasper and Rosalie. But Rosalie and Emmet are like a thing. their kid will be drop-dead gorgeous but like, it's weird...they live together. Then Alice and Jasper are the two weird but still gorgeous ones that are also together. Nut my personal favourite is Edward. He's single and while still the most reclused, he's got this hotter than the sun vibe, but also dark and mysterious. Nobody sits with them because there, the bee's knees for a lack of a better term, but they're absolutely top tier at this school."
"You're making them sound like Royalty," I scoffed.
"They might as well be!" she exclaimed right back.
"Alright, I believe you," I placed my hands up in mock surrender.
She produced a satisfied smile and we headed off to lunch.
