I was never really a huge fan of the whole school lunch thing. I really liked much human food, and when I hadn't fed in a while, the smell made my cravings even worse for blood. The cafeteria was huge, and it was quite obvious the dynamics of the school. Freshmen were closest to the food and squished onto the few available tables, next to them were sophomores, and here, the cliques based on outfits and a little invasive vamp hearing were very clear. Then the juniors, who much like the sophomores were split into cliques. Finally, the senior class, who was split basically into two groups, except for the Cullens, to who everyone basically gave a wide berth.
But Mel was right, one of the Cullens I had a very close resemblance to. Edward, I think his name was. His hair, nose and face shape was exactly like mine, and my eyes were just like my mothers. He didn't smell human and like all the other Cullens on his table, their food was untouched. VAMPIRES! VAMPIRES! MY DAD! my irrational brain kept chanting, but the rational part of my brain was scolding myself for being so naive and wistful. Besides, I know what could happen to dads family if mom and I ever went back to them. Mel and I had chosen two seats at the end of another group of sophomores who Mel already knew well. So while she continues being enwrapped in their group's conversation, I watched as the dark-haired little pixie-like girl had a glazed look wash over her face. Then Edwards's face contorts into shock, pain, and disbelief.
Slowly all the Cullens turned their head to face me, and eventually, the table I was sitting with began to notice the heavy eye contact being made across the room. I listened to the Cullens whispers, "Edward," the blond hissed, "is she really half and half."
Then the big body-builder spoke up, "I didn't know you and Bella got it on heavy before she left." BELLA! MY MOM? Oh my god. Could this actually be my dad? Suddenly the ground and table below me became soft like a sponge and my heartbeat accelerated to e pace that I could hear. Blood roared in my ears and eventually, darkness overtook me, and I lost consciousness.
--
My eyes take in every ray of light, a similar feeling to that of waking up in the morning to the ever so bright shine. The repetitive beeping sound only further irritates my pounding head and the air has an undertone of bleach. I'm in hospital. Once things become into focus, I groan. The room around me was a large space, with curtains separating other hospital beds. HOSPITAL! I can't be here. With my DNA, I can't risk that.
A blond-haired model stood in front of me. Was I in heaven. No, I couldn't be, you're immortal remember, I told myself. "I have to go," I said weekly to the man, who I could now distinguish as a doctor. A very young, very handsome doctor.
"You can't leave yet Renesmee, you fainted." My eyes keep being drawn to the blood back a few beds down, and the burn in my throat becomes nearly unbearable. I would do anything for mom to be here right now. "are you thirsty?" The doctor asked kindly.
Do you have any blood on hand? Then yes! I wanted to scream. "No thank you," was all I said instead.
"Not for water sweetheart," he said softly, endeeringly. This time I take a closer look at the doctor. He had the same animal-diet eye colour my mom had, as well as pale skin, and smelt like my mom as well. "You know I have a special diet?" I whispered.
"We both have special diets. I'm Dr Cullen." This all made sense. This might be my Grandfather.
At that moment, my mom came rushing through the doors, and a close to an inhuman pace, which was unusual for her, since she was always very 'tame' of her vampire side. "Mom," I wept in relief.
"Renesme!" she sighed and embraced me in a tight hug.
"I'm sorry Im in a hospital-we can leave right now and I-"
"Honey, if you were to ever end up in a hospital with any doctor, I want it t be Carlisle here." Okay? So my mom knew my doctor.
This time she directed her attention to him, "Hi Carlisle," she said a lot softer and remorseful.
"Bella," he beamed and signed in relief, taking my mom into a hug which she returned back fiercely.
"Does he know?" My mom asked quietly as if to keep me for hearing. Useless since I have enhanced hearing. But I think it was the principle of it anyway.
"He was the one that brought her to me."
My mom signed and for a moment, she too looked light headed.
"Who are you talking about?" I ask politely.
"Your dad," my mom says slowly.
