Renesmee's pov
I winced, "sorry uncle Jasper."
Without inhaling anything, he smiled warmly at me, shaking his head like it was no big deal and he was fine, but I could tell he was anything but.
"Have you got it under control?" my mom urges again.
"I think so," I drew out the 'so' at the end.
She let out a breath that she was holding, and leaned further into dad.
"I didn't mean what I said earlier dad... but I also kind of already messed up and called Carlise Grandpa," I mumbled.
"It's okay sweetie," Aunt Rosalie assured me and put her hand on my shoulder. "God knows the number of times, we've messed up. Your dad once-"
"Okay, I think Renesmee should go back to her table, before the conversations inside become even more filled with the gossip of us outside," dad interrupted.
"But I want to hear Aunty Rose's story," I whined.
"Maybe in another millennium," mom whispered to me.
I groaned, "Nobody tells me anything."
She gave me a light shove on the shoulder in the direction of the cafeteria, while she and the rest of the family went in the other direction down the hall.
When I went back to my spot at the table, conversations were still loud and clear, but nearly every set of eyes landed on me. "You are definitely a Cullen," Mel said breaking the silence.
"Am not."
"Are too," she quipped back. "Seriously, Edward just picked you up effortlessly by his muscular arms and-"
"Eww nope. Don't want to hear this."
"What he's a junior. We're only a year younger. You can't tell me you've never pictured him shirtless-"
"Mel! I am begging you to please stop talking-"
"Like those powerful abs, and he probably has a magic di-"
"Eh, eh, eh!" I put my hands over my ears. "Hey, do you want to hang out this afternoon?" I asked, trying to get as far away from our current conversation as possible.
"Like at your place?" she whispered like it was some sacred church. "As in the Cullens?"
I didn't know if I was even allowed to invite people over. When it was just my mom and I, she would encourage it, and I always felt comfortable too. But this is Carlise's home we're talking about, not mine and I don't think it's okay. "Let me just check with my sister," I said and pulled out my phone. I tried calling mom, then dad, then even Rose and Alice, but none of them answered.
Then I called Grandma Esme, and she answered on the second ring, "Renesme darling, how is school? Are you alright, is everyone else?" her breathy, bell voice spoke lightly through the phone, a perfect metonym for her personality.
"Hi Esme, um I'm sorry to call you-"
"Nonsense, your grandfathers at the hospital right now and I'm just planning some renovations for a new project I want to start. I'm bored out of my mind."
I giggle, "I was trying to call," I looked up and realised Mel was looking at me intently for my answer, "My sister and the others, but they seem to be otherwise occupied."
This time it was her time to laugh, "Dear Renesmee, I'm so sorry for my children's behaviour. Anyway, how can I help you?"
"I was just wondering, um if I was allowed, and it's totally okay if I'm not because I'm a guest and all, but I was wondering if my friend from school could come over this afternoon and hang out?"
"Of course darling! It would be delightful if she came over, and sweetheart, your not a guest. This home, all the others, and your family, we are are all your's."
"Thanks, Grandma," I whisper so only her vamp hearing could hear. "I love you." Her breath seemed to catch when I said that, and I blushed.
"I love you too Renesmee." If vampires could cry, I think she would be.
--
When the afternoon came, Mel was bouncing all around me, beyond excited to see home. I found mom and dad after school, turns out that mom wanted to skip gym class (like always) and dad being dad went with her.
Uncle Emmet and Aunt Alices junior class' amalgamated with my class for the period, and we ended up playing dodgeball. Emmet was on my team, and Mel was crushing all over him. He dominated the game and only got progressively angrier when little Alice was able to foresee his shots and maneuver through them. He was actually very protective during the game, never letting me get hit, and throwing slightly too hard balls at Calum Tainer who whistled at me earlier.
As we left the locker rooms, Mel kept asking me about the Cullens we were going to leave with. Rosalie in her Ferrari, Alice, Jasper and Emmet in Alice's Porche, or Mom and Dad in dads Volvo. I haven't really seen my parents all day, and I would rather just curl up in the backseat and sleep, but I knew Mel would get the greatest kick out of the Ferrari or ridding with dad. She'd like the Porche too, but I wouldn't, couldn't put uncle jasper through that. Before I could even make up my decision, Aunt Rose chucked me her keys, "Try not to scratch her. Emmet got me it for our last anniversary."
"Are you kidding!" I squealed.
"No. But your- Edward and Bella going to kill me when we get home so, you better leave now before they stop you."
"Coolest person ever," I beam at her and kiss her cheek. Mel who was standing right next to me, had her eyes double in size and her mouth agape, looked as if she was about to launch herself into space with energy excitement levels.
I got behind the driver's seat and Mel goes into the passenger chair. I've driven a few times before, but nothing this cool or extravagant. So I press the button to start the engine, and the car purrs to life.
