Chapter 18
The next morning, the four of us heading for Stockton. It had been years since I had seen Lenny. To say that I was nervous was an understatement. When we got to Stockton and got signed in, a guard showed me and Alex to the visitation room and to a table. We sat down and we waited. "Are you nervous?" I asked her.
"A little. I mean, I'm sure that I've met him…I just don't remember." Alex said.
"It'll be okay." I told her.
It was another few minutes before Lenny joined us. He was led to our table and he sat down across from us. "Little Kristin, how are you sweetheart?" Lenny asked me.
"I'm good, Uncle Lenny. I brought someone to see you." I said to him.
"I see that. You think I wouldn't know my own granddaughter." Lenny said.
Alex looked down at the table. "We need to ask you some questions." I said and Lenny nodded. I leaned over the table a little. "Why was Putlova after my parents?" I asked first.
Lenny leaned closer. "Your mother was half Russian. She was Putlova's goddaughter." Lenny told us. When she left the family, she found me. Told me that she refused to stick around and let me control her life. I introduced her to your father. When they went into WitPro, Putlova said that it was his responsibility to bring you back to the family. Raise you right." Lenny said.
"How does Alex fit in?" I asked Lenny.
"When Anya, your mother" He said to Alex, "took off leaving you with your father, she called me. Said that she was afraid for her life. At the time JT and Clay were just getting started with the Irish, she asked for help with getting out of the country. JT was heading to Belfast to set up the new charter so he took Anya with him to provide her a safe haven." Lenny told us.
"Wasn't that when he came back with Chibs?" I asked him.
Lenny nodded. "So Putlova wants the both of us?" I asked him.
"Yeah. My suggestion would be to stick as close to SAMCRO as possible." Lenny said.
"Thanks Uncle Lenny. I don't think that I need to say to keep this conversation between the three of us, do I?" I said.
"Your secret is safe with me, sweetheart. And thanks for bringing this one to see me." He said before he stood up.
Alex and I walked out of the visitation room and walked outside to meet the guys. "How'd it go?" Jax asked.
"Good. We got some answers." I told him.
"Let's go." Jax said as he handed me my helmet. I put it on and climbed on behind him.
When we got back to the Clubhouse, Clay forced everyone out of the clubhouse that wasn't needed so that we could talk. Once the Clubhouse was cleared, Alex and I told Clay and the guys everything that we'd discussed with Lenny. "Did you know that my mom was Russian?" I asked him and Gem.
They shared a look. "Yes." Clay said. "When Lenny brought your mom and Anya to the clubhouse, JT and I knew that we had to find a way to protect them. Putlova is known for trafficking women. So, JT took Anya with him to Ireland and we asked your father to protect your mother. We set her up with a new name and documentation. When JT came back from Ireland, he had Chibs with him. A week later, JT hit a semi." Clay told him.
"When my mother showed up, did you know about me?" Alex asked.
"No. We didn't know what kind of life she'd left behind. The only thing that we knew was that Putlova targeted her and Kris' mom." Clay said.
"So what do we do now?" I asked.
Clay ran a hand over his face. "Now, we keep watch. We wait for the trial. It's the only thing that we can do for now." Clay said. I turned and buried my face against Jax's chest. "Tomorrow…we're back on Lockdown." Clay said.
I pushed away from Jax and walked back towards the dorms. I walked in slamming the door shut behind me. I couldn't believe what was happening. Just when I thought that we were finally get a step ahead, we ended up three steps back.
