Anna & Davis's Apartment, After the party

Davis was still beyond confused - his conversation with his brother had been cut abruptly short earlier, and he was still unsure about the real story regarding his new sister-in-law. Anna was feeding Carolina at the high-chair, looking like a natural, and Davis flashed back to when he and Anna had first found out about Carolina, the surprise, the fear, and absolute soul crushing realization that any plans they had made would be irrevocably altered by a child, coupled with the almost undetectable joy that had secretly accompanied the news.

"I think Lydia might be pregnant," Davis said off handedly, hoping his brother didn't mind the speculation,

"Why would you think that?" Anna asked, pausing the spoon of baby food mid-air to answer his sudden exclamation,

"They got married," Davis replied, "Lydia and Davis did, like a month ago."

"So because they got married, you think she's pregnant?" Anna repeated back to him what he had said and Davis nodded,

"I mean I asked him if that was why and he didn't deny it, he just walked away, so I don't know," Davis took a breath, "just a gut feeling I guess, I can't think of any other reason they would have gotten married."

"We didn't get married when you got me pregnant," Anna pointed out and Davis shrugged,

"We were 16, it's not like we really had that option," Davis answered, "Lydia and Jude are both 18 now, I mean barely but still."

"I don't think Jude would feel like he had to marry her if that was the case," Anna finished putting the bite of food into Carolina's mouth, "I mean we're unmarried, with a baby, and we're 18. It's not like there was a precedent."

Davis made his way over to sit next to her, putting his arm around her waist, "Annie you know I can't wait to marry you one day, when we can afford the perfect wedding you deserve and Carolina is old enough to be our flower girl."

Anna rolled her eyes, resting her head on his shoulder, "Davis I don't need a perfect wedding, as long as you're there," she reached out and booped her daughter on the nose, "and this cutie pie is there. That's all I need."

"I want to give you everything you've ever wanted," Davis breathed softly into her ear and Anna snuggled into him,

"You already have."

Tree Hill, The River Courts

Jamie was ecstatic about the future, knowing that he and Julia were going to welcome two beautiful babies into the world in the coming months, knowing that he had two healthy and kind sons who already made his world a better place, he was finally happy.

It was days like these though that he was extra thankful; he only had about 2 more months left of his season, Julia was about 6 months along, and the timing of his break and the birth seemed ideal. But today was one of his rare days off, before he had to hit the road again for Away games, and he was sat at the River Courts, watching Tyler and Jason run around the park that had been built alongside the water, with Julia resting her head on his shoulder. Madison was there as well, she had run to get the boys popsicles from the Ice Cream truck, after Jason and Tyler had pleaded with the 3 adults to please get them a treat. He had no idea how things had worked out so well. Julia and Madison seemed to get along really well, which he supposed shouldn't surprise him considering they were the two women he had loved more than anything in the world.

Madison stood in line waiting for the ice pops for her son and her son's half-brother, handing the ice cream man a few dollar bills in exchange for the cold desserts and as she turned to face the scene in front of her she was immediately brought back to the moment that had started it all.

*Flashback to Tree Hill High, Senior Year*

"Babe, you coming?" Jamie Scott hollered across the hall at his 18 year old fiance, Madison, who was taking a bit longer than usual at her locker,

"I'll be there in a minute Jamie, just save me a seat!" Madison called back, fiddling with the CVS bag she had stashed in her locker that morning and shoving it into her backpack. The school was having a convocation to celebrate the seniors and their impending graduation, but Madison was worried about an entirely different situation than her high school graduation. She had been engaged to Jamie for about 2 months, and although she loved him half to death, she wasn't sure if she was ready to get married, if that was the right decision for either of their futures.

Maybe that was why when Chuck, Jamie's best friend, had come over during reading week before finals she had slipped up and let him kiss her, and why she hadn't stopped him when he began undressing her and had tentatively entered her. It hadn't lasted longer than 5 minutes before she had realized exactly what she was doing and had pushed herself off of him and sent him home, but the fact of the matter was she had had sex with Chuck.

It had been only a few weeks before she noticed that she had skipped her period - and the realization hit her; there was a chance she was pregnant. She knew in her heart that it was likely Jamie's baby if she was pregnant, they had a very healthy sex life, and despite the lectures from their parents, they had never been particularly careful or safe. So she had rushed to the nearest CVS, handed the cashier a few crumpled bills, and tucked the test into her locker to take after school.

This was the moment of truth - she was either pregnant or not, and she had no idea what she was going to do. So as she waited the five minutes, pacing back and forth in the bathroom, she made up her mind. If she was pregnant, she was going to get out of town, it wasn't fair to Jamie to lock him in when it might not be his child, and even worse than having to tell him she was pregnant, having to tell him he might not be the father would crush him even more.

Her phone timer went off and she slowly turned the test over, and in big block letters, the word "PREGNANT" was spelled out. She swallowed back tears and bit her lip, throwing the test into her backpack and trying not to freak out. As she walked back towards the gym to join the rest of her class for convocation, she knew this was going to be the last time she would see Jamie. She slid into the seat next to him and he grinned at her, clearly unaware of her strife, and grabbed her hand, whispering in her ear,

"I'll love you forever Madison."

*End of Flashback*

Jason came barreling towards her, Tyler right behind him. They were clearly excited and Madison crouched down to their level,

"Okay boys, eat these slow or you'll get a brain freeze," she instructed and both the boys nodded, each grabbing a popsicle and skipping off. Madison let out a relaxed sigh, this had worked out, her son was happy.

The Baker Household, 2 weeks later

Jude woke up without his wife next to him in bed, perplexed, he got up and started walking towards the bathroom where he noticed the light was on, he was surprised to see Lydia sat on the bathroom floor, clearly not feeling well, in front of the toilet.

"Really playing up this fake pregnancy thing aren't you love?" Jude joked, sitting down next to her and pushing her hair out of her face,

"I think I just ate something bad, I wasn't trying to fake morning sickness, but I guess you're right," Lydia smiled softly, "can you get me a glass of water?"

Jude nodded, standing up and walking towards the kitchen. He noticed a dim light was on, and then he saw his dad was sat in the large armchair, with a book tucked into his hand,

"You're up early," Julian remarked and Jude smiled at his dad,

"Lyds doesn't feel well," he replied and Julian nodded understandingly,

"First trimester is the worst, your mom used to be inconsolable in the mornings when she was pregnant with you and your brother," Julian mused and Jude began pouring a glass of water, "how far along do you figure she is?"

"I mean," Jude paused, he had not prepared for this conversation, he had no idea what he was about to say, but he hoped it made sense, "it's not like we were using condoms ever, she has an IUD, so I guess it really could've happened any of those times. But the test she took I think she said only worked after 6 weeks? And that was a few weeks ago so I'm honestly not sure."

Julian absorbed the answer and nodded, " I think you're going to be a really good dad Jude, I mean obviously your mother and I wish you had waited, especially after watching Davis, but I'm proud of you for standing by her."

"She's my wife dad, I would never leave her on her own," Jude replied and Julian closed his book,

"Did you tell your coach yet?" Julian asked standing up as Jude put the Brita filter back into the fridge,

"I haven't no," Jude said softly, in his head he knew this was because it was a massive lie, but his dad seemed surprised,

"Well I think you should call him tomorrow and let him know - he needs to be aware of your new situation, with a baby and wife." Julian instructed his son and Jude nodded,

"Okay, I'll do it this afternoon."

As the day dragged on, Julian kept asking if Jude had made the call yet, so Jude finally bit the bullet - he could always explain it was a mix-up later on he supposed, so he dialed his coach's number and sat across from his parents,

"Hey Coach, its Jude Baker," Jude said awkwardly,

"Hey Baker, how are you doing?" his coach replied back and Jude took a deep breath,

"Well I have some news that I felt like I should probably share," Jude paused, "it won't affect my basketball commitment or the level of my game, but it feels like something pertinent to my life in general."

"Pulling out the big words already, what is it?" his coach asked and Jude scrunched his eyes shut, tipping his head back,

"I got married a couple months ago, to my girlfriend Lydia," Jude started and his coach chuckled on the other end of the phone,

"Not the first time one of my guys has gotten married Baker, that's no big deal," his coach said with a laugh and Jude took another deep breath, ready to spread the lie even further,

"Um there's a bit more," Jude paused and his coach's silence indicated that he should continue, "we're having a baby, probably right before school starts, we haven't gotten the exact due date yet, I'll have that next week."

His coach was left speechless, but after a few seconds of deafening silence, he found his words, "Well I suppose a congratulations are in order for you and your wife then son," his coach paused, "and we have support services available if either of you ever need help, especially during season if she feels overwhelmed, we can figure out something with our on campus daycare, just keep me posted okay?"

"Yes sir," Jude replied, "thank you. I'll do that."

"Alright Baker, have a great rest of your day," his coach said as he hung up and Jude let out a massive sigh, he hoped his coach wouldn't get too confused when he got a call in the next week saying no need for those sorts of services.

Durham NC, Logan's Apartment

Sawyer was freaking out - she knew news of what she had done with Jack would eventually get back to Logan, and even though they had attended the baby shower over the weekend with no problems or mentions of the event, she feared it would come out at the worst possible time, and her stomach was in literal knots. She felt awful about what she had done- the self-sabotage had always been her play, and she knew that's what this was. Things with Logan had been too stable, too predictable, and she had gone and decided that was a bad thing, instead of appreciating the wonderful life she had been living for the past year and a half.

Logan knew. He had known the night it happened - Jack had called him, half drunk, half apologetic, and spilled the entire event to him. Logan wished that he could say he was surprised, but he wasn't - he knew Sawyer's MO, he knew she needed excitement, and he hadn't ever been particularly great about being impromptu. He wanted her to tell her, mostly because he had already decided he would forgive her, but also because he wanted her to recognize her own patterns. Logan had only been cheated on once before, but he was much younger than, with a different approach to relationships and to life in general. He wasn't happy that it happened, it broke his heart to know that her inebriated brain had decided to kiss someone who wasn't him, but he also knew she was barely 20, and her decision making skills were not entirely functional.

Sawyer walked through the front door of their shared apartment, expecting to be alone, but instead she was met with a smell of Italian food cooking in their kitchen. And there, behind the counter, was Logan, feverishly stirring in a massive stove pot and a spread of ingredients covering the counters.

"Logan, what's this?" Sawyer asked quietly, trying not to disturb his process. Her boyfriend turned to her with a smile,

"I just feel bad because I've been gone so much recently," Logan's facial expression conveyed a hint of sadness that she couldn't quite shake, "and you mean so much to me, so I called your mom and got her recipe for your favorite pasta."

"You didn't have to do that," Sawyer said softly, feeling the guilt eat at her again,

"Well I love you, so I wanted to do it," Logan reached over the counter and kissed her on the cheek, "go take a shower and relax, I'll let you know when it's done."

Sawyer bit her lip and smiled at him, retreating to the back of the apartment, hoping she could gather the courage to break her perfect boyfriend's heart.

The rest of the night unfolded as most romantic evenings for them always had, they shared a dinner and picked a movie. And as the fading credits of Notting Hill played on their television screen, Logan scooped Sawyer up, wrapping her legs around his waist and kissing her neck, ushering her to the bedroom. Sawyer's stomach was downright ill, but she knew better than to try and ruin a perfect night, so she went along with it, pulling him into her like she had so many times before. For almost an hour the pair enjoyed one another, making up for lost time, but as they finally pulled apart and laid staring at the ceiling, Sawyer felt her heart jump, and before she could stop herself the words fell out of her mouth,

"I kissed Jack."

Tree Hill OBGYN, a week later

Lydia sat in the waiting room of her OBGYN, nervously tapping her foot on the ground; she knew her and Jude's lie was about to surface, and she was sick thinking about what her parents might do if they figured out that she and him had made a master plan to get time with one another. She stared at the form in her hands, she needed to put down her last period, and she quite frankly couldn't figure out what to put down. She had no idea when her last period would had to have happened for her to be as far along as her parents believed she was, she tried to crunch the numbers in her head, and quickly wrote down about 12 weeks prior - maybe that would suffice.

Jude was sat next to her, his nerves also at an all time high; the looks he was receiving in the waiting room were quite embarrassing, as if Tree Hill had never seen a teen couple before, and he was genuinely uncomfortable. He thought about all the jokes he had made, and how he had thought Lydia getting pregnant wouldn't really be that bad or weird, but as he sat in the manufactured reality, he realized immediately that he had been wrong before. Even though he knew they were lying, the questions he had answered for his parents, his grandparents, his cousins, his coaches, his teammates, his friends - they had all been awful, and he had felt embarrassed every single time someone said they had heard the news.

He finally understood why Davis had been so awkward about it when Anna and him had Carolina, everyone had an opinion on what they should do or where they should go for care, and it was so much for his mind to take. He was relieved that at the end of this appointment he could go back to his normal life, and people would know that it had simply been a "bad test".

"Lydia Baker?" the nurse called out, and Lydia grabbed Jude's hand as the couple walked into the back office, her mom following closely behind them.

The nurse handed Lydia a cup and explained that they needed a urine sample, as well as a blood sample so they could determine how far along she was, Lydia nodded, her lips tight with worry - her mom was going to kill her for lying. An excruciating period of time, that felt like hours, passed as the three sat in the stiff office awaiting the results. Although both Lydia and Jude knew it would come back negative, they still held their breath, worried about Haley's response.

The nurse eventually walked back in, looking a bit confused,

"So Lydia, you've had your IUD for how long?" she asked,

"Over a year." Lydia replied, a bit confused about where this was going,

"And on this sheet you indicated that your last period was over 12 weeks ago?" the nurse followed up her first question with another,

"I mean I honestly don't get them very often, it was more of a guess," Lydia answered and the nurse nodded,

"Okay well, we ran both the urine and blood tests and they did come back positive," the nurse started and Lydia's stomach flipped - what the hell did she just say?

"But it's really indicating more of about 5 to 6 weeks along, which is very early, and if you took a positive test over 7 weeks ago then I am not sure how that would have worked - unless it was just a bad test which we do see every so often with store bought at home kits"

Lydia took a beat to breathe - she was pregnant? Like actually fully really with child? It made no sense to her; she literally had an IUD, she had done everything she was supposed to do to avoid this exact situation - and to be honest, she certainly did not want to be pregnant.

Lydia glanced over at Jude who had an equally as shocked expression on his face; he had expected the nurse to use the word "negative", but he, along with everyone else in the small room had heard the "positive" loud and clear - he squeezed Lydia's shoulder and pressed a kiss to the top of her head - he had no clue what they were going to do next.

"So let me just get this clear," Haley paused, looking at the nurse, "she is pregnant?"

"Yes."

"But only 6 weeks along?" Haley asked,

"Correct" the nurse replied, "let me give you all some time to talk this over; I'll come back in five minutes and we can decide whether we want to proceed with an ultrasound or discuss options."

The word "options" made Lydia sick to her stomach; she was still recovering from finding out she actually WAS pregnant, when it had all been an elaborate lie, and hearing the nurse remind her that it was early enough for her to consider terminating the pregnancy stressed her out even more - she had never been good at making decisions.

The nurse closed the door behind her and turned to face her daughter and son-in-law;

"Care to explain?" Haley asked, she was as caught off guard as both of the kids in the room - she had expected Lydia to have no way out, and now hearing that she was overwhelmingly less along than they had thought confused her.

Lydia took a deep breath - she knew she wasn't about to tell the truth to her mom, that they had all made it up and it had been a lie; "I swear mom when I took that test I had been feeling horrible for a few days, but it must have been a false positive - I only took one because I've literally never heard of people getting false positives, just false negatives."

Jude nodded backing her up, but Haley looked perplexed still;

"And you both were sexually active during that time when we were keeping you apart?"

The couple nodded; Jude was looking anxiously at Lydia, his heart exploding and his stomach sinking - what the hell were they going to do? He knew Lydia was pro-choice, he also knew that she didn't want to have a baby anytime soon - and now they could make that decision. He had no idea what he wanted; on one hand, he loved Lydia, she was his wife and they were a family - but on the other, they were 18, just starting college and ready to move out of the small town and away from the drama of Tree Hill; they were supposed to escape scott-free.

The drive home was silent; all three of them got out of the car at the Baker's house, and Lydia made a beeline for the back bedroom - knowing her mom would explain the whole ordeal to Brooke and Julian, and not in the mood to answer questions. Jude walked behind her, slowly closing the door as he stepped in. She sat down on the bed and started playing with the sheets;

"Jude, what are we supposed to do?" she asked, her voice shaking and he sat down next to her and put his hand on her back,

"Lydia I am by you no matter what. You know how I feel about us as a couple, I think we could do this and probably not mess up too badly. But I also know that it's your body, and I know we're up against a lot of things if we have this baby. I think we need to make the choice that is going to be the best for us in the long run," Jude answered quietly and she leaned her head against his shoulder -

"Can we sleep on it? We still have a few weeks she said before we have to make any decisions." Lydia almost whispered and Jude nodded and smiled at her,

"Why don't you get some sleep? I'll get you a glass of water," Jude looked on as his wife curled into bed and he pulled a blanket over her, kissing her on the temple and venturing out to the kitchen.

The kitchen was filled with hushed discussion, which stopped as soon as Jude walked into the room -

"Is Lydia okay?" Haley asked and Jude looked up at her as he poured a glass of water,

"I think just surprised, she didn't think she was going to have the choice to make a decision. All a little overwhelming," Jude placed the brita back in the fridge and smiled at his mother-in-law, "we'll figure it out though, we always do."

The next week passed in a haze, neither of them liked choices, and no matter how they proceeded they knew they would have regrets, it was just a matter of which regret would hurt worse. And then, about a week and a half after the initial appointment, Jude woke up to a panicked cry from Lydia in the middle of the night.

"Jude, something is wrong," she squeaked out, almost instinctively his hand flew to meet hers on her abdomen, "no no Jude," Lydia shook her head, "I think I think I'm bleeding"

Jude flicked the light from their nightstand on and Lydia pulled the comforter away - she was bleeding, an abnormal amount.

"I think we need to go to the hospital," Jude said quickly, sitting up and pulling a shirt on as Lydia struggled to stand up; Jude propped her up and the couple walked to the car as fast as they could.

It only took about a half hour for the doctor to confirm what Lydia had concluded was happening - she had miscarried; evidently a common experience for IUD pregnancies especially in younger women. Lydia didn't know how to feel, she just felt numb - like her body had been entirely out of her control and she had no say. Although she has made up her mind the night before that she was going to go through with an abortion, something about it not ending on her terms made her whole heart ache. Jude was supportive, slowly rubbing Lydia's back and assuring her that it was all going to be alright. He took care of breaking the news, calling his parents and then calling her mom for her, who offered to come pick them up, but Jude assured her that the two of them would be able to get home alone. At this point, there wasn't much that could be done to make it any better.
