Sakura's POV
Calm down Sakura. This is just infatuation. You don't actually like Sasuke. You just like his company. Yeah, that's it. You just jumped to conclusions because you were tired last night. Yeah. That has to be it. All you have to do now is just get through the rest of the day.
"Sakura?" You and Sasuke are just friends. Nothing more. "Hey, Sakura?" What if it's not infatuation? What if I actually have feelings for him? "SAKURA!" I jump from the area where I was standing.
"What?" I ask to one of the cooks.
"The BLT meal is ready," he says in a monotone and bored voice. He definitely hates working here. He is always like that. Kind of reminds me of Sasuke.
"Sorry." I grab the dish and head out to the dining area. The place is pretty packed. Not completely full, but enough to keep you on your toes. Sasuke, Tenten, Sai and I all are serving today, and even with the four of us, we are still having trouble getting everyone's meals served on time. At least no one has caused any problems yet.
The table I need to give this meal to is near the corner. It would be safer for me to go around all the tables to get to the corner, but in order to make it there faster, I walk through the small and narrow halls between the tables.
On the way to the table, I get ready to pass by Sasuke who is taking orders from another. There isn't much space there but I think I can make it. Bad idea. As I step in between the tables and Sasuke, he steps backwards and bumps right into me, but before I fall and spill the BLT, Sasuke wraps his arm around my waist and stops me from falling, along with the meal.
I let out a big exhale, thanking Sasuke for his fast reflexes. "Woah, be careful Sakura." It was then that I noticed how close we are. Our faces are a couple inches away from each other. I then realize that Sasuke's hand is on my waist.
Out of reflex, I yank my face away from his, making him raise an eyebrow. "Are you okay," he asks.
"Y-y-yeah. I-I'm ok-kay." God dammit, when did I start to stutter. I sound like Hinata. Sasuke doesn't look very convinced, but releases me anyway and drags his feet to the kitchen.
I stare at his back as he walks away, and even when he is in the kitchen, I'm still staring in that direction. It takes a minute to realize that the table Sasuke was talking to is staring at me. I try my best to make it look like I'm not bothered, but that doesn't really go well.
Finally, lunch break. Well, more like dinner since it is 7:00 pm. After grabbing my lunch from my locker, I make my way to the table where Sasuke and I sat for lunch when he first started. I have leftover chicken teriyaki with rice and cooked veggies, along with my mystery novel. Today I am FINALLY gonna finish it, and nothing can stop me.
I shove the book in my face and continue where I left off, but not even thirty seconds later, someone drops their lunch on the table and takes the seat across from me. It's Sasuke. I stick my nose back into my book hoping that he doesn't notice how awkward I am acting. I don't think he does. He hasn't said anything. I glance up a bit so that only my eyes are noticeable to him, and he is silently eating his lunch.
I must have been looking at him for a long time because as time goes on, he eats slower. Then he moves his head up to me. "What?" Confusion is in my eyes.
"Nothing." I move my head back into the book. "I just thought you would speak to me."
"I thought you didn't want me to disturbed you during lunch because you wanted to finish your book."
"You're actually going to let me read?"
Sasuke strikes his non-existent beard. "Hmm," then smirks. "I was going to, but now I'm thinking no."
I tried my best to giggle quietly, but I think he heard me. Oh well, I can always finish the novel tonight. I close my book and place it to my side and start to eat my lunch.
Both of us chat and eat for a while, enjoying the small amount of peace we get before we have to work again. "How's Sarada?" I ask.
"Normal... oh speaking of Sarada, she keeps asking when you are gonna hang out with us again?" I chuckle at the memory of that little child.
"I still need to give her my old books." I take a sip of my tea.
"You could drop it off tonight." I choke a little after hearing that.
"Wh-at?!" I stutter.
Despite my crazy reaction, Sasuke seems calm and collected. "Why not? We only have an hour left of work, and it would be better to just get it done now rather than later."
The thought of going to Sasuke's house late at night makes me nervous, even though it is just for dropping off books. "Ye-ah, but, your daughter might be sleeping, and I don't wanna disturbed her."
"You wouldn't be at all. It'a movie night tonight for us. Plus, it's a Friday night."
I'm running out of excuses. I do want to go over there, but a part knows I shouldn't. I would only make a fool of myself. "I don't think my parents would be happy with me being out that late."
Sasuke raises an eyebrow. "Your parents are fine with you returning from the amusement park past midnight, but won't let you leave the house past nine?"
"Well this is different. I didn't leave the house at nine, I only came home late. I didn't leave late." Why am I even fighting this? I want to go, and my parents wouldn't care.
Sasuke takes a deep breath and sighs, almost as if he is disappointed. "Ok. You don't have to. We'll just do it another time." Is he pouting?
Stupid Sakura! What are you doing? Right here, there is a cute guy asking you to go over to his house, well only for dropping off books, but still! And you're turning him down? "Actually, I think my parents won't mind, and it would be better to get it done now rather than later."
Sasuke is trying his best not to grin, I can tell by how he is biting his cheek, but why? "Sounds good. I'll tell you my address before our shifts end." I give him a shy little smile and nod.
Sasuke's POV
Come on vacuum, WORK! I need to clean this place before Sakura arrives. The vacuum won't turn on. Looks like I'm going to have to fix this the best way. I grab onto the handle roughly, and start kicking it to get it to work. That normally fixes things. And it does. The obnoxious noise is heard through the apartment. "Papa?" My raven haired daughter appears from the hallway wearing her batman onesie, and her hair in two tiny pigtails.
"Yes sweetie?"
"Why are you vacuuming?"
I told Sarada that Sakura is going to stop by, but I didn't tell her I was going to clean our apartment like a maniac for her. "Can't a guy clean his apartment?"
"You can, but it's kinda late, you might anger the neighbors."
"Don't worry. I'll be quick, and if the neighbors come by, I'll deal with them." Sarada doesn't look convinced, but she doesn't question me anymore.
After ten minutes of vacuuming, I wipe down the coffee table again for the one hundredth time, just to be sure I didn't miss anything. Do I smell okay? I took a shower, but still. Does my hair look okay? It hasn't dried completely... I can't believe I'm actually worrying about my appearance. When was the last time that happened?
Sarada walks back into the room and turns on the TV. "What should we watch tonight Papa?"
"I don't know. Pick something you like." A sudden knock on the door is heard. She's here.
"Sakura's here!" Sarada shouts. I calmly make my way to the door and grab the knob. I take a big inhale and open the door, revealing the short pink haired cutie holding a huge cardboard box in her hands.
Sakura's POV
As soon as I see Sasuke I can feel my cheeks heating up. "Hey Sasuke," I say quietly.
"Hey yourself. Come in." Sasuke opens the door all the way for me to enter. After I do he grabs my box from my hands and holds onto it. "Wow, I didn't think there would be this many books. Why didn't you text me when you got here? I could have helped you get this up the stairs."
I slid off the jacket I was wearing. "It wasn't that bad. I'm a strong girl." Sasuke takes my coat from me and leads me to the living room.
Under his breath I can hear him say, "Oh I know," in a sarcastic way.
"Sakura!" The little Uchiha shouts to me and gives me her big smile. "What took you so long to get here?"
"Well once I got home from work I had to shower and change out of my work clothes." That was only part of it. I wanted to look more pretty to Sasuke so I retouched my makeup and even straightened my hair. Though I didn't put much thought into my clothes. I only put on a T-shirt with a zip up sweatshirt and leggings.
I turn my head back to where I came from and see that Sasuke is nowhere to be found. He must have gone to put the books away. "I hope those books keep you busy."
Sarada smiles at me again. "Yes! Thank you."
Lights I see from the side of my head change color. I realize that's the TV. "You guys have movie night tonight right? What are you guys going to watch?"
"Shrek 2," she says in a certain and confident voice. A wave of nostalgia courses through me.
A big smile creeps on my face. "Oh I loved that movie when I was young!"
"I showed Sarada the first movie not too long ago," A masculine voice behind me speaks. "She loved it too."
"I think you are going to love this one even more," I say. "The second one is better in my opinion."
"I agree." Sasuke made his way next to me when he said that. "You should watch with us."
"Oh no, I couldn't!" I start to wave my arms around like a lunatic.
"Yeah! Watch it with us, Sakura!"
"I... I don't know." The more I talk the quieter it gets.
"You're already here. Mind as well stay for a little," Sasuke says.
Okay, let's contemplate this Sakura. Should I stay here and risk getting in trouble with my parents? Or do I go and lose a chance to hang out with Sasuke outside of work? "Well... maybe just for half of it."
"Yes!" Sarada shouts. "Come! Sit down Saku!" I follow her command slowly.
"I'll get us some tea," Sasuke walks to their kitchen.
"I'll make the popcorn!" Sarada shouts. Both of them leave the living room area, leaving me sitting uncomfortably.
Sarada speed walks back a few minutes later with a bowl of popcorn and a mug with a ladybug on it. She then places the bowl on the coffee table and drinks her tea. Sasuke walks around the couch and hands me a plain, white mug with herbal tea in it. "Thank you."
Sasuke then takes a seat a little bit too close to me, and Sarada places her mug on the coffee table and lays on the other side of Sasuke and rests her head on Sasuke's left thigh. "Shall we start the movie?" Sasuke asks.
"Yeah, before I fall asleep," Sarada responds. Sasuke then grabs the remote and clicks play.
About forty minutes into the movie, I start to feel sleepy. I have an urge to place my head on Sasuke's shoulder, but I know I shouldn't. At least, that's what I think. Sasuke doesn't feel the same. Without looking at my hand, I can feel another warm hand on top of it. Sasuke's hand. I start to shake a little and I keep my eyes glued to the TV, avoiding eye contact.
Is Sasuke just tired, so he's not thinking straight? Does he not realize his hand is on top of mine? No, he has to know. In order for him not to move his hand quickly, I very slowly turn my hand over so both of our palms are touching. I start to feel Sasuke's fingers intertwined with mine. Trying my best not to grin, I intertwine with him, so now we are both holding hands.
The movie continues on, but I can't focus on it. The only thing I can focus on is the strong, large, and warm hand that is holding mine, and before I know it, sleep starts to take over me.
