Notes:
Steve entered his house checking on his sister and niece. Once he knew they were okay, he then started to examine the wooden floor on the first floor of the house. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary at first. Then he pushed aside the throw rug. If he didn't know to look for it then he wouldn't have noticed the slight notch in the floorboard. He knelt down carefully lifting the piece of wood. It revealed a hole in the floor that was perfect for hiding things. The only thing in the hole was an old gray metal box. Steve picked it up looking it over. He put the floorboard back down and put the throw rug back over it. Standing up, he walked over and sat down on the couch. He took a breath then carefully opened the box. It contained a bunch of different papers including instructions on placing a car bomb which was dated a week before his mother was believed to have died. There was also a nearly empty glass vial along with a picture of Steve and Chelsea from when they were in Japan.
"What is all this?" Mary asked as she sat down beside her big brother.
He frowned moving to close the box. "Proof that mom drugged Chelsea and I. Also an explanation as to why she faked her death."
"What?" She looked at him in a mix of shock and confusion.
Steve sighed turning toward her. "Mom was recruited by the CIA."
"That's.. that's crazy. So she chose to fake her death instead of raising her children?"
He shook his head. "It seems that way, but I really don't know."
"Well does it say anywhere in there why she chose to drug you guys?" Mary frowned at him.
Steve softened a bit. "Not really, but I think I have a general idea. Mom was kind of hostile toward Catherine. She thought I was happy in Japan with Chelsea."
"Were you?" She gave him a curious look.
He rolled his eyes lightly at her. "Well yeah, but I was on leave. We were just having a good time."
"Alright so in her own twisted way, Mom was trying to rekindle your fling with Chelsea thinking you guys would fall for each other. Except she never took into account the fact that Chelsea is madly in love with Danny." The younger McGarrett sibling pointed out.
Steve nodded sighing softly. "Yeah exactly. Did Mom say anything to you when she went by your place?"
"She begged for my forgiveness. She said she didn't want to make the same mistakes with her grandchildren that she did with her children. That she wanted to make up for lost time. By then I already knew what happened to you guys so I slammed the door in her face and told her to never come back." Mary shrugged her shoulders.
He pressed a kiss to her head and smiled softly at her. "And that's perfectly alright. I support your decision to do that. Look I have to go over to the lab, but I'll be back as soon as I can."
Chelsea was beyond thrilled to finally be back home. As much as she adored her brother and Danny, their hovering over her now that she was home was driving her insane. Luckily Danny had to go into the office and Jackson was busy with something. Chelsea was on her own for a little bit and then Erin decided to pay her a visit.
"You look great! I mean, not that you didn't before, but the color is back in your skin. You look warm instead of pale." She smiled at her.
A slight laugh fell from her lips. "I know what you mean and thank you. I feel good. Not quite back to one hundred percent yet, but I'm getting there. Enough about me. You never told me how your date went."
"That's good to hear. Oh! Right. It went well. He's cute, funny, and somewhat charming. He's from the mainland, but he says he has family on the island." Erin smiled softly.
Chelsea nodded her head eyeing her friend skeptically. "But? I feel like there's a but."
"I don't know. I just get this vibe that he can be trouble, you know? Not like murderer trouble, but that he's the type that makes a lot of really bad decisions." She shrugged her shoulders.
She took a sip of her water giving Erin a look of understanding. "Well they can't all be winners, but at least you tried."
"Yeah." Erin trailed off as the doorbell rang and she excused herself to go answer it.
His blue eyes widened a bit when the door opened revealing Erin standing there. "Oh, uh, hey."
"Hey Steve. She's in the living room." She smiled softly at him.
Steve nodded his head as he stepped inside the house. "Thanks."
Chelsea couldn't help biting her lip when she saw him. "Hey. What's up?"
He sighed as he moved to sit down. "I just wanted to tell you in person that I found proof that Doris did indeed drug us."
"That's great news! I mean, terrible because she's your mom, but great that you guys at least know for sure who did it." Erin sighed in relief.
She was relieved as well to hear this news. "So what does this mean going forward? Will she be arrested?"
Steve rubbed at the back of his neck nervously. "Well we have enough to bring her back in and question her again. We can transfer her over to HPD custody afterward."
Chelsea sighed tucking her hair behind her ear. "Do what you guys have to do. I just want to move past this already and finish healing."
While the 5-0 focused on closing the case with Doris, Chelsea was fully focused on healing physically and mentally. It was Malia who helped her get in touch with a therapist who was highly recommended. Chelsea was nervous about talking to someone she didn't know about her life so it took a few sessions for her to feel comfortable.
"So you said you were visiting the doctor last week?" Dr. Erika Lee asked looking over at the young woman who was sitting across from her in a comfortable chair.
Chelsea nodded her head. "Yeah.. yes.. I did. I got a clean bill of health. Doctor said I'm healing well."
"That's great to hear. How are things with you and Danny?"
She shrugged her shoulders a bit. "Good. A little awkward. He's so patient with me and it's so sweet. I just feel so bad that I'm being so weird."
"What do you mean by weird?" Her brows raised at that.
Chelsea sighed. "I can't bring myself to have sex with him which is so stupid because I am ridiculously attracted to Danny. I think it's just guilt because last time I did it was with Steve."
"And how do you feel about Steve?"
She glanced over at the therapist. "Steve's a really good friend, but that's it. Danny is everything to me. I've been in love with Danny for as long as I can remember."
"That would certainly explain the feelings of guilt, but from what you told me, what happened with Steve wasn't your fault at all. When you get home, think of it as a fresh start for you and Danny. No one is saying you have to rush into sex again. Take your time. You'll know when you're ready again." Dr. Lee assured her.
Chelsea arrived home from her therapy session and smiled when she saw Danny's car in the driveway. There was a lily taped to the front door along with a note telling her to go upstairs to their room. She took the flower and walked inside following the note's instructions. On the bed was a dress. Chelsea freshened up changing into the dress then went back downstairs. Grace was there and she took her hand leading her through the house out to the back. There were fairy lights strung up and more lillies. Right in the middle of it in a suit on one knee was Danny. Chelsea gasped and smiled softly as he took her hand.
"I have loved you my entire life, Chelsea Walker. It's always been you. Honestly I should have done this a long time ago, but there's no going back now. I'm so in love with you. Jersey, will you marry me?" Danny gazed up at her.
Chelsea teared up nodding her head. "Yes!"
"Yes? She said yes!" Danny grinned slipping the ring onto her finger before standing up and kissing her.
She grinned kissing him back. "Of course I said yes."
"Yes!" Grace squealed and ran out hugging them both.
Chelsea smiled and hugged her now future stepdaughter. "Thank you, Gracie."
"Yeah thank you, monkey. She was a big help with the set up and picking out the ring." Danny smiled pressing a kiss to his daughter's head.
She grinned softly at that. "Really? I'm touched. That's so sweet."
"You're welcome. I'm really happy for you guys. Besides I get a really awesome stepmom out of the deal." Grace smiled at them.
