There weren't many things Iphigenia loved, but winter was one of them. Winter, with its crisp air and perfect snowflakes. Winter, with the smells and sights that always accompanied the season. Winter, and of course, the woman that tended to accompany it; Gianna.
"Effie!" Gianna shouted, slamming open the door of the manor with an echoing bang that always managed to make everyone in the vicinity flinch at the sound. Iphigenia looked at her shut study door, hearing the loud footsteps of her succubus as she stomped through the manor. It was remarkable how loud Gianna always managed to be, especially when in a house full of vampires.
"Yes, Gianna?" Iphigenia greeted, timing it with Gianna's entrance into her study, an act that never failed to make the succubus beam.
"Iphigenia, you wouldn't believe the woman I met today!" Gianna crooned.
"Another helpless mortal?"
"Yes! No— maybe! Oh, Iphigenia, she has the clearest eyes, and she made the most hilarious sound when she saw my wings!" Gianna waxed, draping herself across Iphigenia's desk.
"Oh, of course, a clearsighted mortal, how delightful," Iphigenia agreed drily.
"No, Effie, you don't understand—" Gianna flung herself off the desk, standing with her hands held in front of her as if to emphasize a point. She looked ridiculous. "She is the kindest, most wonderful person I've ever met —excepting you, of course. She complimented me, and my wings, and told me I had the loveliest smile she'd ever seen. I was going to a candy shop, you know, the one you hate?"
"That doesn't narrow it down," Iphigenia pointed out, burying her smile with a raised eyebrow and perfectly skeptical expression. The last time she'd heard Gianna like this was when she talked about Iphigenia.
"Sweet on America," Gianna supplied.
"That one. Yes, that ones pretty horrifying," Iphigenia recalled, thinking of the eye-blinding colors and decorations, and the uniforms. Those poor workers.
"Right, well, she works there," Gianna said. "She just— oh, Effie, I can't tell you how nice she was, and how genuine and kind and wonderful… I've never met anyone so honestly loving like she is."
"You are telling me how nice and genuine and kind she is," Iphigenia pointed out.
"Shush, woman, let me talk—"
"That's all I ever do…"
"Iphigenia," Gianna said sharply, glaring as Iphigenia laughed. "I'm being honest. You should meet her, she's lovely. There's just something about her that, oh, I don't know. Apparently she's gotten to know an awful lot of 'mythical' beings— she's got a kid with a god, someone Greek, and she gets work on her car done at a cyclops mechanic. For a clearsighted mortal, she's terribly… nonbiased, I suppose. I guess that's likely to change, what with her demigod kid, but I can't see her ever not being nice."
"Mm-hm," Iphigenia agreed noncommitally.
"Effie, will you at least meet her before you write me off as an idiot?"
Iphigenia laughed again, grinning at her longtime friend. "Yes, Gianna, I'll go with you to meet her. My expectations are high, though."
"She'll meet them."
