Chapter 29: An Easter Celebration!

At the Phantomhive Manor…

Ciel and Celia sat down drinking some tea while checking the morning newspaper together that details the aftermath of the Campania incident and Viscount Druitt's miraculous survival.

Celia wore a gold dress made of silk shantung that looked mature with a black ribbon and tassels. Her gold headband was decorated with daffodils and ribbons while her bluish blue hair was in a loose straight style.

"Campania Sinks! The unprecedented accident at sea with 1000 casualties, sent shockwaves through all of Britain. All of the survivors spoke of the fear they experienced when faced with the mysterious monsters that appeared on deck. However, the truth of the matter sank to the bottom of the sea, along with the ship. The newspapers have been alive with speculative articles for days."

A scoff escaped the bluenette's mouth before drinking her cup of black tea which was flavored with hibiscus and mallow flowers.

"It's been several days since we got back and it's still the same old news."Celia commented in boredom.

Ciel sweat dropped when he caught sight of the Viscount Druitt on the newspaper.

"Not to mention this guy is really persistent."Ciel added.

"It was a rather terrible maiden voyage, wasn't it?"Sebastian remarked as he poured a cup tea for Ciel. "As I feared, by the time we returned to the mansion you were quite ill. It was rather rough, but it seems that life has returned to normal."

"Normal, huh?"Ciel said as he took a sip of his tea. "Now that you mention it, Sebastian. Exactly what about that is normal to you?"

Celia blinked at her twin brother's change of tone before noticing Sebastian wearing white long bunny ears on his head.

"Why are you wearing those bunny ears, Sebastian?"Celia questioned in confusion.

"Since today is Easter, we were all ordered to wear these by Lady Elizabeth."Sebastian exclaimed.

"I see."Ciel responded. "She's been noisy since this morning, but what exactly does she expect us to do today?"

Celia let out an excited gasp of hearing today was one of the holidays she loved celebrating when she and Ciel were small children.

"I nearly forgot that today is Easter!"Celia chuckled in delight. "This is going to be a fun day!"

"Yay."Ciel cheered in a quiet happy tone.

"Well then, if you both have finished breakfast, I was told to take you to the second floor."Sebastian exclaimed.

The Phantomhive twins stood up from their seats and followed Sebastian to the drawing room.

Ciel and Celia were greeted by the sights of Elizabeth, Edward, Soma, Agni, Nina, Doll, Snake, Mey-Rin, Bardroy, Finnian and Tanaka, who were all wearing bunny ears.

Elizabeth wore a mint green dress designed with cherry red ribbons, a few frills at the bottom, black bottoms on the white frilly chest, matching red cuffs on the wrists and low mint heeled shoes. There was a dark red choker around her neck and a small daffodil with a red ribbon laying on her bunny ears.

"Your finally here!"Elizabeth remarked.

"You are late, Ciel and Celia."Prince Soma stated.

Elizabeth rushed forward to hug Ciel and Celia.

"What are they doing here?!"Ciel demanded.

"I thought we could celebrate Easter altogether."Elizabeth exclaimed. "Though my brother came of his own accord."

Edward flinched in shock at Elizabeth's cold comment while Celia covered her mouth to lower her giggle.

Celia smiled. "Just like old times."

"We have a different faith, but we can celebrate with you."Agni stated.

"What is this Easter holiday?"Prince Soma questioned in curiosity.

"It's a holiday where we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, three days after he was crucified."Sebastian explained. "On this day we line the tables with food made with plenty of eggs, milk and butter. We also play games with coloured Easter eggs such as Egg Hunt and and Egg Tapping. Egg Hunt is a game which you find the Easter eggs. Egg Tapping is a game in which one taps hardboiled eggs together. The one that breaks first loses."

"There are games in this holiday?"Doll asked.

"Yes."Celia said with a nod. "It's also popular in exchanging cards that have Easter bunnies on them."

"And! And!"Elizabeth spoke up joyfully. "Easter is also a time when everyone gets dressed up in new clothes and hats."

"What?!"Prince Soma said and looked at his clothes. "I had no idea, so I came in my regular clothes."

A bright spark flashed in Nina's glasses before smiling confidently.

"That's my cue!"Nina declared dramatically. "Let's unveil the new spring collection of Nina Hopkins! The tailor that makes the season!"

Ciel, Edward, Prince Soma and Agni then changed into the new outfits Nina had prepared for them.

Ciel wore a stylish tailcoat and half pants suit with black as the base and the flower hole near the neck had a daffodil while the accents were a golden braid and decorative buttons. His top hat was the style colour as his suit.

Edward wore a white sailor suit with a short matching hat and black shoes.

Prince Soma wore a houndstooth vest with a tie, striped pants and a jacket with accents while Agni was dressed in double breasted military style suit with houndstooth accents.

"Everyone's so cute!"Elizabeth squealed.

"And Edward looks handsome in a sailor suit."Celia thought dreamily.

"Excellent!"Nina complemented proudly. "The gentleman really should be extravagant as well!"

Elizabeth brought out bunny ears for Ciel and Celia to wear.

"The world's gentleman shouldn't be plain looking. Wear this, okay?"Elizabeth giggled as swapped Ciel's hat with a pair of bunny ears before placing one with small flowers on Celia's head. "You'll look cuter in this one, Cece."

Elizabeth then showed a basket that had colourful eggs decorated with ribbons, chicks and bunnies on them.

"Let's begin the Easter Egg Hunt!"Elizabeth remarked. "Today, I brought eggs my father specially made!"

"Wow!"Celia said in amazement, staring at the eggs. "Uncle Alexis did it again!"

Elizabeth picked up an flower designed egg from the basket to show it to Ciel.

"Look Ciel!"Elizabeth responded happily. "Isn't this flower pattern nostalgic?"

Ciel went out of his thoughts and looked at the egg in silence, not knowing what to say.

"Huh?"Ciel said in confusion.

"Huh?"Elizabeth repeated with a surprised look.

"Indeed, it is."Ciel replied quickly, turning away from her. "Well, I'll tell the servants to go and hide those."

Elizabeth was left dumbfounded at Ciel's response while Celia felt a bit hurt that her twin brother didn't remember their Easter tradition.

"That's right!"Elizabeth agreed with an recovered smile. "I thought of the same thing!"

Elizabeth took out a bright pink egg that had yellow red stripes, pearls and ribbons on it.

"I made this one! Isn't it cute?"Elizabeth asked. "Let's have the person who finds the egg hidden amongst all the others in the mansion be the winner!"

"Oh!"Prince Soma said in realisation. "So this Egg Hunt works like that?"

"But it wasn't meant to be a competition or anything."Ciel grumbled.

"We always played it that way when we were small, Ciel."Celia reminded with a small smile.

"That's right!"Elizabeth agreed before lovingly hugging Ciel. "Ciel was always the one who found my egg! So you have to make sure to be first this year too!"

"G-Got it."Ciel responded with a smile.

"Wait a minute!"Edward snapped in frustration. "I definitely won't let you have my sister's Easter Egg! It's on, Ciel!"

Ciel sweat dropped. "I am not the one who decides."

"My!"A familiar voice spoke up. "This looks interesting!"

The Phantomhive twins gasped as they spun around just in time to see Charles Grey come crashing through one of the windows while swinging on a rope.

"Earl Grey?!"Celia shouted in shock.

"Hello, gorgeous."Charles Grey greeted with a wink.

"It has been a while."Charles Phipps complemented as he popped his head through the broken window.

"Even Mr Phipps?!"Ciel exclaimed nervously. "Why are the Queen's Butlers here?"

Sebastian frowned seeing the window broken.

"The window…"Sebastian thought.

"A delivery from Her Majesty."Charles Phipps stated.

Charles Phipps held out a basket that showed beautifully decorated eggs in it.

"How cute!"Elizabeth remarked as she gushed over the handicraft. "Just as expected from the Queen!"

"No, I painted these."Charles Phipps admitted.

"So the Earl must be the first one to find his fiancée's Easter egg, is that right?"Charles Grey asked with a smirk. "Great! I'll be participating too."

"You weren't even invited, you jerk."Celia muttered sourly under her breath.

"There are no rules other than the one who gets the egg first wins, right?"Charles Grey reminded and licked his lips. "This will be fun."

"Please wait a second."Sebastian instructed, earning Grey's attention.

"Something you got to say butler who cheated death?"Charles Grey questioned.

Doll glanced at Celia with a puzzled expression.

"Cheated death?"Doll asked.

"I'll explain later."Celia whispered.

"I'd expect there would be injuries if we didn't have any rules between these members."Sebastian explained and held up an egg. "Why don't we establish some more rules involving these? We'll divide everyone up into teams of two and have one of them carry a raw egg in a ladle during the Egg Hunt. One can freely exchange the Egg through use of the ladles. A team is disqualified if, for whatever reason, the raw Egg breaks."

"I see."Charles Phipps said with a small frown. "You added rules like those in Egg Tapping to the Egg Hunt."

"Because Egg Tapping is also a traditional Easter Game."Sebastian remarked.

"Tch, boring!"Charles Grey scoffed in boredom.

"Well then, let's decide the Teams!"Sebastian insisted.

"We'll definitely find the egg first."Ciel commented.

"Yes, my lord."Sebastian responded.

Celia smiled at Doll.

"None of us are planning to lose to anyone, right Doll?"Celia asked.

"Right, Jewel."Doll agreed.

"Well, whose egg will we break first?"Charles Grey asked, licking his lips.

"I would like that egg as a model."Charles Phipps admitted.

"Agni, let's win in the name of the Goddess, Kali!"Prince Soma insisted.

"Jo agya!"Agni replied.

"I'm a pro at finding food stuffs!"Bardroy sneered.

"I know many places they could have been hidden in."Mey-Rin complemented.

"Let's do our best!"Finnian cheered.

"It'll be an easy victory with our sense of smell!"Snake translated. "Says Wordsmith."

Nina became angry and loudly objects to being paired up with Edward.

"Why am I with a man?!"Nina demanded.

Sebastian ignores Nina's protests as he explained another rule to the groups.

"As a General Rule, you are not allowed to aim for something other than the raw eggs."Sebastian explained. "To win you must find Lady Elizabeth's Easter Egg and take it to her."

"Let's get started!"Elizabeth announced. "Ready? Bang!"

The Egg Hunt Race starts causing all the groups to run out to find Elizabeth's Easter Egg.

Edward glanced at Nina when he notice she wasn't running.

"Let's go!"Edward insisted. "We shouldn't be delayed!"

"There's no helping it then."Nina commented.

Nina abruptly ripped off her skirt, revealing a more exposed outfit underneath with garters causing Edward to blush furiously.

"What are you wearing?!"Edward shouted in shock. "Know some shame as a woman!"

"You're basically saying that girls have to follow stereotypes?"Nina pouted. "That's inexcusable!"

"Waaah!"Edward shouted as he dropped on the ground with his eyes shut. "Don't come any closer!"

"As a future Marquis, don't you think you should be a bit more open minded?"Nina questioned.

"Fine already!"Edward complained. "Just cover your legs!"

Unknown to Edward and Nina, Mey-Rin was hiding around a corner with Bardroy and then shoots their egg with a slingshot.

Team Edward and Nina: Disqualified.

Edward and Nina became shocked seeing their egg destroyed.

"You lose if you let your guard down once the starting sign's been given."Mey-Rin admitted smugly.

Edward and Nina dropped on the ground, weeping for being disqualified from the race.

"Elizabeth!"Edward cried.

"And here I was thinking I'd make her wear this and that when I'd have won!"Nina sobbed.

Bardoy snickered as he and Mey-Rin dashed off to look for the egg he had hidden underneath a chest.

"Easy win!"Bardroy sneered.

"Look!"Mey-Rin gasped, looking at the chest. "There's an Easter Egg hidden under that chest!"

"Let's see..."Bardroy started.

BANG!

Sebastian and Ciel jolt at the sound of an explosion and rush into the hall to find both Bardroy and Mey-Rin looking completely dishevelled.

"I'm not sure I want to know, but I'll ask anyway."Sebastian said with a calm look. "Why did you make them so they could explode?"

"I forgot I also hid some specially made Easter Eggs."Bardroy replied.

Team Mey-Rin and Bardroy: Disqualified

Outside…

Finnian and Snake were outside the manor to search for eggs whilst being guided by the scents picked up by Snake's snakes.

"The smell of eggs are coming from over there!"Snake declared. "Says Wilde."

"Okay, I'll get them!"Finnian remarked.

Snake suddenly stopped running when Wilde got a scent.

"Who is it?!"Snake demanded. "Says Wilde."

Snake followed Wilde's gaze and saw Charles Grey discretely following them.

"So you found me."Charles Grey said with a smirk as he stepped out from around a corner of the manor. "I thought I'd be more efficient if I just stole the eggs that others already found."

"I won't give you the eggs."Snake replied with a frown. "Says Wilde."

The former snake charmer of the Noah's Ark Circus launches his snakes at a frightened Grey to snatch his egg instead.

"Gah!"Charles Grey panicked, trying to get away from the snakes. "Get these snakes away from me!"

Suddenly there was an instrumental sound causing Snake and Charles Grey to look up.

Charles Phipps was on the roof playing a snake-charming flute.

"That flute!"Snake gasped. "Says Oscar!"

The older Charles jumped off the roof and looked at Snake.

"A first rate butler should be able to play a snake manipulating flute."Charles Phipps declared.

Charles Phipps continued to play the flute which caused Snake to have a dizzy spell as he listened to the instrument.

Later, Finnian returns with some eggs and also found a strange one which blew up on him.

"Mr Snake, I found a lot!"Finnian admitted. "Though for some reason, one blew on me-"

The gardener gets greeted by the sight of Snake passed out on the floor, which meant they were disqualified from the Egg Hunt.

"Mr Snake!"Finnian said in shock.

Team Finnian and Snake: Disqualified.

Inside Phantomhive Manor…

Celia and Doll walked around a guest room to look for Elizabeth's egg.

"Did you find anything?"Doll asked.

"Nope."Celia answered while checking underneath a desk. "Still no sign of the egg. What about you?"

Doll checked underneath the bed, but saw nothing under it.

"Nothing either."Doll sighed as she stood up. "Since the egg is so small, is gonna be hard to find it around the manor."

An idea suddenly came to Celia's face causing a smirk to grew on her face.

"I think I might have an idea where it could be."Celia admitted.

In Another Room…

Sebastian was checking insides a drawer and found a plain egg while Ciel stood in the hall in case the egg discovered to be one of Bardroy's.

"How is it?"Ciel asked.

"Not the right one."Sebastian responded before glancing at the Earl. "By the way, young master. Why are you so far away?"

"What if it was one of Bardroy's eggs?"Ciel asked nervously. "I don't want to be caught up in that."

"You remember that I was hurt a few days ago?"Sebastian reminded. "Well, no matter. Let's…"

Sebastian suddenly sees a shadow moving swiftly behind Ciel and quickly hastens to his young master's side, parrying an attack from behind by Agni.

"For you to notice my presence when I'm completely focused is impressive."Agni declared with a smirk.

Sebastian smirked. "Since you'd be able to hide your presence to such an extent, I'll give you a well done."

Prince Soma laughed as he from around the corner behind Sebastian and Ciel.

"Hahaha! You fell for it!"Prince Soma laughed and rushed up to Ciel. "Your egg is mine, Ciel!"

Ciel suddenly started coughing a lot, alarming Prince Soma, Agni and Sebastian.

"Ciel! Are you okay?!"Prince Soma asked worriedly, rushing over to Ciel. "Are you having another attack?!"

Seeing the opportunity, Ciel breaks Prince Soma's egg in his lowered defences.

"Aaah!"Prince Soma sobbed as he dropped on the ground.

"Hahaha!"Ciel laughed in triumph. "What idiot would fool for that?!"

"Ciel…"Prince Soma whimpered.

"I'll take any measure to win."Ciel declared proudly.

Prince Soma and Agni suddenly spring upon Ciel, crying in joy and relief that he was not ill again as Sebastian watched the sight with an amused smile.

"I am so happy!"Prince Soma cried. "I thought you were sick again for real!"

"Master Ciel!"Agni remarked. "You are alright!"

Team Prince Soma and Agni: Disqualified

Meanwhile...

Celia and Doll continued their search for Elizabeth's Easter Egg in a large ballroom.

"Are you sure this is the room, Jewel?"Doll asked.

"I am sure of it, Doll."Celia assured as she scanned the room. "The others would believe Lizzy wouldn't put her egg in her challenging place. But I know better."

"So you are the egg is-"Doll started.

"Up there."Celia responded.

Doll followed Celia's index finger and saw Elizabeth's Easter Egg perched on the chandelier causing the former circus tightrope walker to become shocked.

"How the hell was she able to put it up there?!"Doll demanded in disbelief.

Celia simply chuckled as she remembered Elizabeth's superb sword-wielding skills.

"She probably has hidden amazing skills that we don't know."Celia complemented.

"Okay."Doll said, looking at the bluenette. "I guess all we need now is a tightrope and we win the race."

"Hang on."Celia instructed.

The Lady of Phantomhive suddenly rushed and walked over to one of the cellars of the room before doing a big jump and caught herself on the chandelier.

Doll dropped her mouth in awe at what she just witnessed.

"I guess this is how Lizzy must've got her egg up here."Celia chuckled.

The two girls suddenly hear voices nearby and the door opened revealing Sebastian and Ciel.

"Young Master, how do you feel after giving such a reaction to your sneaky act?"Sebastian asked with a smirk.

"Shut up!"Ciel snapped.

Sebastian and Ciel sweat dropped when they caught sight of Celia hanging onto the chandelier.

"Hi."Doll greeted with a wave.

"Celia!"Ciel shouted. "What in blazes are you doing?!"

"Oh nothing, Ciel."Celia replied innocently. "I was just about to get Lizzy's egg and win this race."

"Lizzy, placed her egg up there?!"Ciel snapped.

"Since we found the egg first, looks like we won."Doll insisted.

"I'm afraid not, Lady Doll."Sebastian admitted. "Lady Elizabeth's egg must be in the hand of the person for them to be the winner."

Doll frowned. "Seriously?"

"Go get it, Sebastian."Ciel insisted.

"Wouldn't it be more better if you got it, Master?"Celia asked.

"Tch."Ciel scowled in defeat. "Go get a ladder."

"Of course."Sebastian answered.

Sebastian gets the stepladder for he and Doll to steady it as Ciel struggles to reach Elizabeth's egg.

"It's unsteady."Ciel murmured with a nervous expression.

"Don't worry, Ciel."Celia assured smugly as she carefully moved to the next part of the chandelier. "I'll get it for you."

"I am not going to let you win this, Celia."Ciel replied as he reached out his hand to get his fiancée's egg. "Almost got it..."

All of a sudden, a ladle gets thrown towards Ciel before it was warded off by Sebastian.

Ciel managed to catch the falling egg in the commotion and hangs on tightly to the chandelier with Celia next to him.

Doll quickly moves out of the way from being hit by the fallen ladder as Sebastian caught his master's egg and the other ladle.

"You came here after all."Charles Grey remarked.

Charles Grey and Phipps stepped into the ballroom.

"The Double Charles!"Ciel gasped.

"Them again?!"Celia retorted in annoyance.

"Sorry, but we're taking the victory!"Charles Grey declared.

Charles Grey rushed forward and Sebastian blocked his ladle against his.

"You!"Charles Grey scowled with an irritated smile. "I thought I killed you for sure! How did you do it?"

"How?"Sebastian repeated with a smug look. "I don't know what you're talking about."

Phipps lunges at Sebastian from behind with his flute causing Doll to block it with her parasol weapon using her free hand.

"You mere servants wouldn't be thinking about attacking us nobles now, would you?"Charles Grey mocked.

"In a game, your status means nothing!"Celia snapped.

"Sebastian! I'll allow it!"Ciel called out. "Break that egg!"

"I can't!"Sebastian responded as he dodged Charles Grey's ladle. "It would bring shame to the name of House Phantomhive! Please wait another 10 seconds!"

Doll blocked her parasol with Charles Phipps' ladle.

"10 seconds for what?!"Doll questioned.

"It doesn't matter if it's a game or not!"Charles Grey sneered. "I just hate losing!"

"And besides..."Charles Grey started.

9...8...

"I love toying with an opponent who can't resist!"Charles Grey admitted.

7...6...

Sebastian and Doll continued to fight off against Charles Grey and Charles Phipps.

5...4...

"My arm..."Ciel whimpered in pain.

Ciel struggled to hold onto the chandelier with one arm as Celia reached out her hand to help him.

"Just hang in there, Ciel."Celia begged.

3...2...

"It ends here!"Charles Grey announced.

1...

CRACK!

Charles Grey nearly breaks the Phantomhive twins' raw eggs when, out of the blue, Grey and Phipps' egg hatches, revealing a baby chick.

The youngest Charles stares at the chick in pure shock.

"Wha...what is this?!"Charles Grey demanded.

"Oh my."Sebastian said with a relieved smile. "It seems there was a fertilized egg mixed in the basket."

"What?!"Charles Grey shouted.

"I'm very sorry, but the rule for this game was "No matter what the reason, if the egg breaks, you are disqualified."Sebastian reminded. "Which means..."

"We lost."Charles Phipps finished simply.

"No...way..."Charles Grey denied.

Team Grey and Phipps: Disqualified

Sebastian helped Ciel and Celia come down from the chandelier.

"Phew..."Ciel muttered as he rubbed his tired hand.

"It seems that me and Ciel's teams are the ones left standing."Celia remarked.

"That's cool."Doll complemented with a small laugh.

"It's cute."Charles Phipps exclaimed.

Charles Phipps stared at the chick in silent admiration while Grey looked down in disappointment at their defeat.

"Still good work to you both, young master and mistress."Sebastian assured.

Ciel frowned. "You set this up at from the start, didn't you?"

"I can't have my master be embarrassed in front of his future wife, right?"Sebastian reminded with a wink.

"You are a sneaky one, Sebastian."Celia giggled.

Afterwards...

After the competition is over, everyone regrouped outside to eat an Easter feast and Ciel presented Elizabeth her egg.

"Here you go, Lizzy."Ciel declared.

Elizabeth blushed and hugged her fiancé in delight.

"You did it, Ciel!"Elizabeth cheered. "You got the egg first!"

"Yes."Ciel agreed with a smile. "As always."

"May this Easter Egg bring you lots of happiness."Elizabeth admitted.

Ciel smiled. "Thank you, Lizzy."

A warm smile grew on Celia's face, seeing the sight before which reminded her of the time when she and Ciel were young and celebrated the holidays with their whole family.

Prince Soma puts his arm around Ciel's shoulder.

"Of course, my best friend would win!"Prince Soma said proudly.

"I'll kill you if you break that egg, Ciel!"Edward warned.

"I'm sick of this!"Charles Grey retorted. "I'm hungry!"

"The food looks good!"Doll chuckled.

Celia smiled vanished when she notice Elizabeth taking off her bunny ears with a troubled look on her face.

"What's wrong, Lizzy?"Celia asked in concern.

"Hey Cece, we've celebrated Easter so many times. However, this year was the first time that I made my own Easter egg."Elizabeth admitted sadly as she remembered that Ciel forgot how they first start out their Easter celebration. "Exactly what happened to you and Ciel in that one month?"

Celia fell quiet, knowing Elizabeth was talking about that month.

The month when she and her twin brother lost their parents and got sold into slavery, where they end up in the hands of a sadistic demon-worshipping cult and endure endless abuse at the hands of their captors.

The Lady of Phantomhive quickly cast those painful memories aside and forces a happy smile on her face.

"Don't worry about that, Lizzy."Celia assured kindly and took Elizabeth's hand. "We'll talk about this some other time. But for now...let's enjoy our delicious Easter feast!"

Elizabeth smiled, taking in Celia's words before they went to join the others in the table.

Ciel looked at Charles Grey, who was busy stuffing his face.

"You wanted to give me something?"Ciel asked.

"Oh right. We didn't come just to play games."Charles Grey said while munching on some food and brought a letter out from his coat. "Here you go. A love letter."

Ciel and Celia has enjoyed their Easter celebration, but next they're both going to school!
