Chapter Twenty-Six: Chocolate Milk
Rosa heard some commotion, which was, of course, started by Jake. She walked over to join, and found out that the Sarge was planning on getting a vasectomy. When Charles and Gina joined in, Rosa decided that she should too.
"Neither does your wife, I guess" She said as Jake high fived her, before Terry got threatening
"Anybody else? This is your last chance" He said
"Alright. No need to get so testes" Gina chimed in
"Guess you won't me manning the tip line" Rosa added
"Sergeant. Is this going to go on your sperm-anent record?" Charles asked
"Now playing, scrotal recall!" Jake finished, before the Sarge took a menacing step forwards and they scarpered.
Jake went off with Terry to a stabbing, whilst Rosa remained at the precinct. She went home, and was surprised when Jake wasn't there. She was more concerned that he had not come home all evening.
When she awoke the next morning, she became really worried. It wasn't like Jake HAD to stay at hers every night, but they just did. And if he wasn't, then he would usually message her to let her know not to worry that he didn't turn up.
She got to work, and waited anxiously for his arrival. Feeling a stab of anger and jealousy when she noticed him walk in, tired and in the same clothes as yesterday. She was evidently not the only one to notice.
"Uh-oh. Walk of shame. Same clothes as yesterday" Gina said upon seeing Jake.
"I slept at the Sarges' It was horrible" Jake said. Rosa calmed down a bit at the hearing that. After Jake and Gina had finished talking, he walked over to her.
"Morning" He greeted, making himself a cup of coffee. She sipped the one she had just made
"Morning" She replied
"So, I think I owe you an apology for not telling you I wasn't coming home last night" Jake said "I was meaning to, but Terry was with me all the time, and I couldn't get a moment alone. And when he fell asleep, he fell asleep on me. So, I'm sorry" He said
"Jake, it's alright" Rosa said
"No. It was uncool. Tonight. I'm taking you out to a proper date" He said, Rosa smiled
"I can't wait. Dress nice, I'll pick you up at 9" He said with a wink he walked away, and soon after, Jake and Terry walked off, and out of the precinct.
Rosa spent a day of painfully sorting
Jake returned a few hours later. Alone, and went straight to talk to Gina. Rosa tried to hear, but all she heard was Gina shouting good Luck to Jake when he walked off.
He disappeared out of sight, and it was only. a second later when she received a text
Babylon xx
"What's up?" She asked walking in, to see him leant against a wall.
"Please don't hate me. But can we push our date to tomorrow?" He asked
"Sure" Rosa replied. "Why?" She asked, curiously
"I need to help the Sarge. I'm sorry" He said, walking up and kissing her softly. A hand on the small of her back
"It's fine Jake. Seriously" She said.
"It's not. I keep blowing you off. And I don't mean to, but it's not fair to you" He said
"It's fine, seriously. Your putting your friend first. If anything that makes you even sexier" She said Jake smiled at this.
"I promise, it will be the best date of your life" He promised, before kissing her once more, and walking off, before poking his head back inside the room.
"Hey. One more thing. There's an extra something in it for you, if you go with Boyle tonight. Just to shut him up about it" Jake said
"What's the extra something?" She asked. He winked, and walked away.
Rosa endured a painful night, of pretending to like Boyle. To dance, to give a toast, and to pretend to have a good time. She wondered what Jake's something special was. Her mind kept running over ideas all night. It was the only thing to get her through the evening.
She arrived home at 1am, and soon found that Jake was not there either. Sighing, she got into bed and willed a good night's sleep.
She was a little less surprised when he came into work the next day, with Sarge after wearing the same clothes. Again.
"Still on for tonight?" she asked in the kitchen
"Definitely" Jake confirmed
"What's the special something? I suffered with Boyle" She said
"You're going to have to wait and see" Jake said before walking off.
-9pm-
At exactly 9pm, there was a knock on her door. Rosa, who had dressed up in a dress which Jake had picked out a while ago, met him outside.
"Wow" he said upon seeing her. She blushed at his praise. "You are. Stunning" He added
"Thank you. You're rather handsome yourself" She said, noting to his tux. He held out his arm
"Mi-lady?" He offered. She took it, and closed her door. They walked downstairs to his car, and he held the door open as she slipped inside. He got in the driver's seat. He had put some work into his old Mustang, and now, it was quite a nice car. Rosa, who worked on old cars during her spare time helped him. They drove for maybe 20 minutes, half an hour. Until they pulled up outside a lovely restaurant
"Where are we?" She asked
"New Jersey" He replied
"Why?" She asked, not thinking it was a bad thing
"I came here a few times whilst in the mafia. Thought it would be somewhere you would like to visit. Besides, not many people know who we are here, so I can do this" Jake said wrapping his arm around her "Freely. Or this" He said pulling her in so her chest was flush against his. He looked into her eyes, and tucked a lose piece of hair behind her ear.
"Or this" He whispered as his lips met hers. This was everything she wanted. Jake not having to hide. Kissing her, in the middle of the street.
"Perfect" She muttered as his lips left hers. They walked over and inside the restaurant. It wasn't Benny's but it was one like it. A nice restaurant, which Jake wouldn't get killed if he walked into.
They had the most delicious meal of her life. Jake was, well he was exactly how he was when they were alone. He was himself. He wasn't trying to make people laugh, or convince anyone of his intelligence. He was able to be himself. And that was the side that Rosa had fallen in love with. The gentle, kind, generous, caring side. The side which she felt honoured that he was comfortable enough to show her.
After their meal, Jake drove her back to her apartment where they walked inside.
"Jake, that was an incredible evening" She said
"You're incredible. And I'm sorry that I've been off lately. Rosa you are truly incredible. And I'm so, so sorry that I have not been appreciating it" He said Rosa smiled, walked over to him and kissed him. Deep.
That night, they made love. They took their time. Ever kiss, every thrust, ever moan was filled with passion. Rosa lost her mind so many times that night, she fell asleep in Jake's arms, and as they both had the next day off, his surprise was that the next day, he had plans to take her out as well. They spend the day walking around a old car exhibit at the local museum, then watched The Equalizer, which had just came out. And then that night, it was takeout and basketball.
Rosa was convinced that she had never been so in love with that man, and that weekend, he could have convinced her that he was feeling the same.
