Chapter Thirty-Nine: Windbreaker City
It had been three days since the break-up, and Jake was still acting heartbroken. He was so believable, that a few times Rosa had to pull him alone, and ask if he was being serious, of course he laughed and said no. But Rosa still had her doubts. But she knew how good of an Actor Jake was.
Jake walked into work the next day, carrying a box of things, and both Terry and Boyle tried to help.
"Well played" Rosa said to him that night.
"Oh my sweet Diaz, that was nothing. I overheard Sarge and Holt talking this afternoon. And let's just say that I shall being out the 'big guns' He said
"What are you on about?" She asked
"We're doing some training with Homeland the day after tomorrow" Jake said
"Oh God! What have you got planned?" She asked almost fearful. Jake trailed is hand up her side.
"Relax baby girl I've got it covered" He said as he leant in and kissed her. A kiss that Rosa knew meant that he didn't have feelings for Sophia. -The Next Morning-
"Damn it, Jake. I have to wear a turtle neck today" She complained

-Morning Briefing-
"Alright Squad. Every year the department of Homeland Security, runs a multi-agency Counter-terrorism drill. The team from the DOD had to drop out at the last minute" Terry said "Thanks to our stellar scores at last years' tactical Village-" Terry said
He was interrupted though by Amy shouting 'Nine-Nine' He continued as though there had been no interruption.
"They want us to fill in" He said proudly. "We are the only non-federal agency to ever invited to this event. This is a huge opportunity, and we are going to Nail it!" Terry amped up..
"Nine-Nine!" He shouted
"Yeah!" they chanted back
"Hey Charles. You know what I'm thinking?" Jake asked
"You're right. We should pack grapes for the road" Charles suggested
"No. This drill could not have come at a better time. I'm going to throw myself into it, and focus solely on getting a win, and not on whether Sophia has texted me back, which she hasn't in case anyone was wondering" Jake said
Once out of the briefing, Jake met Rosa in the evidence room.
"Believable. I'm impressed" She said
"Ye of little faith. Hey did you manage to get this Saturday off?" He asked. They had plans to travel up to the Berkshires on Friday night and have a weekend away.
"Fuck! No. I'll ask Holt today" She said
"Good. Because I want this" He said trailing his hands all over her body "For hours, naked and under me. Or on top of me. I'm not that fussy" He finished . She kissed him quickly before they had to break.
The squad all returned to their work at hand, open cases, catching criminals and all. And it was 7:45 when Terry called everyone back into the briefing room.
Ok all. I have confirmed our attendance tomorrow. It's a 9am start so we need to set off at 8am. I want everyone here at 7:30am. Understood?" Terry asked
"Yes" they all agreed.
"Ok. Dismissed" he said and they all walked out, finishing up and clocking out.
Rosa and Jake arrived home after opting not to join the rest of their squad in after Work drinks at Shaw's.
"I still can't believe that everyone thinks you're actually heart broken over Sophia" she said
"Why do you underestimate my acting skills so much?" He asked
"Because we've been together 14 years. Because I know your tells, I can pinpoint things that are out of place for you. Which I know is a challenge because you're erratic intentionally so people can't see minor differences in you" She said
"Well there you go. No one else has the history that I have with you, therefore they don't know my tells." Jake said
"And I wouldn't want it any other way" she said with a smile as he leant In and kissed her again. Teasing her way his lips
"Jake, have I mentioned how proud of you I am?" She asked
"Why this time?" He asked
"We wouldn't be Invited tomorrow if it wasn't for you, and beating the course record" she said
Jake smiled and laughed
"If I hadn't Of beaten it last year, I would have another year" He promise
"When did you get so humble?" She asked
"Oh I'm trying this new thing out. Do you like it?" He asked
"Not really" she replied
"Ok then I rule, I'm the greatest pass me my crown" he said
"Not better" she replied now smiling flirtatiously at him
"How about this?" Pressing his knee between her legs
"Fuck! Much better" she moaned as he rubbed it where she wanted him most. "But one thing first" she said as she dropped to Her knees before him

At 7:50am they started to board the minibus, when Holt walked out, stopping Amy and Rosa.
"Santiago, Diaz. Before you go. Both of you have requested to have this Saturday off but I need one of you to work" He said "Work this out, and get back to me" He said after Scully's comment
"Sorry, I can't reschedule. I have tickets to a TED talk on power poses and getting what you want by using your body" Amy explained.
"Well I can't reschedule my plans either. I'm having dinner with my parents" Rosa said, before Amy tried to interject with reasoning, why Rosa doesn't like her parents.
They arrived at ten to, and were amazed by all the windbreakers. Jake going through all agencies and enjoying it. Leaning in to Boyle's Cathart idea.
Jake was a bit pissed that he wasn't locked in a room with Rosa, and had to settle for being with Terry and Charles. It took some convincing, but eventually Jake and Charles were able to get themselves out. Terry refused to help them. But between them, they took down the two terrorist guys outside the room. Jake, who was always a brilliant marksman, took the gun from the terrorist in a way that would make Rosa proud.
ROSA! That was where he was going next. To get her out. He took out two terriost guys and kicked down the door.
"Hi-YAH! Door kick" He said as he ran in
"What's up, dude?" Rosa asked as Jake walked straight up to Rosa and released her. Charles going to Amy.
"We're freeing you guys" Jake said "Look. We came here to win and they're not even giving us a chance. I think it's fair to say that no one in America has been discriminated against more" He said
"Buddy" Rosa interjected
"Yeah, that's my B. Adrenaline talking, so you guys in?" Jake asked
"I don't know" Amy said "I don't want to get in trouble" Amy said. Jake didn't even have to ask Rosa. He knew she was always up for a bit of firefight.
"Wow. You sound like a real Terry" Jake said, before making a topless comment which he quickly took back
"Look. You two are still arguing about who gets Saturday off, right?" Jake asked, they nodded. He pulled out two guns, and gave them one each
"Highest body count wins" He said
"Done!" Rosa agreed.
They met in the basement, and Rosa watched as Jake got threatened. She caught his eye. They did a drill like this back at the academy. She goes to lower her gun, shoots the guy in the leg, then the chest if needed. Jake nodded to her to signal 'go' when Terry appeared from no-where, and saved the day.
"Alright Sarge. You decided to be cool" Jake said
"I'm always cool. I also couldn't spend another second of listening to those ATF wads bitch and moan" Terry said
"This drill is over. Let's get the hell out of here. Drinks on me" He said
"Nine-Nine" Amy chanted which they all agreed. Jake took the opportunity to pretend to see if Sophia had messaged him back, until Charles piped up.
"I don't know Charles" Jake said "I mean. They're the good guys. And that would make us..." He said lowering his voice and looking down "The bad guys. Noice" He breathed in that low voice that made Rosa bite her lip, which didn't go unnoticed by Jake.
"Oh, I'm in" He said again in that low deep, sexy voice. Rosa missed what Charles had said "I'm in all the way to Hell" Jake said.
"Let's go squad" He called
"What's the plan?" Terry asked once out of earshot.
"Sarge. You go out and get Kendricks. I'm going to come out with some demands" Jake said. The rest waited inside as Jake walked out, walking back in a minute later
"We're not waiting one second. Those demands were a ruse" Jake said, ignoring Scully's comments "We're not going to hang around like sitting ducks, we're going to take the fight to them, like some waddling ducks" Jake said. Rosa looked on Jake with pride and desire. She truly loved that man, and she was caring less who saw it now. "If the waddling was super-fast and cool" Jake said
"Ok. Let's destroy some good guys" Jake said.
Rosa and Amy watched from the door as Charles and Terry were killed, leaving Jake as the last man standing. Rosa genuinely thought that he had never looked so desirable. She had all intentions of ravishing him later
"Kendricks. Come out. It's just you and me!" Jake called. They watched the interaction between the two. Rosa watched as Jake got shot, and anger filled her. Jake had won rightfully, and if he had shot, and hadn't given the second thought into shooting him, he would have.
"Interesting tactic detectives. Show up at your first inter-agency drill and mess the whole thing up" Kendricks scalded
"Less of a tactic and more of a series of incredible events" Jake said
"And what was the most incredible event, when I shot you in front of all your friends?" He said "I knew it was a dumb idea to invite the NYPD to a federal drill" He said
"Seriously man. You took all our guns, taped us to a bunch of chairs, called us fat, and we still took almost all of you out. Next year we're winning this thing" Terry said
"Oh, you're not coming next year" He said before he went on to explain about how they weren't a federal agency. Jake then explained hoe the day was a total win as he hadn't checked his phone in forever.
By the time they arrived back at the Precinct, it was gone clock out time. So, they left. Stopping by the bar for a few drinks, Jake and Rosa didn't get home until 11pm.
"Something about watching you run a terrorist group that just makes you so hot" She growled with a wink as he leant in and kissed her again. Closing the bedroom door behind her.
-The Next Morning-
Amy walked up to Rosa in the break room, and announced that she told holt that she could work Saturday
"Wait, why? You won fair and square" She said
"I mean, I murdered you. That was pretty shady. Also, it was crazy assertive, and I feel like maybe I don't actually need power pose training" Amy said
"You don't" Rosa said "Mostly because no one needs Power Pose training" She said "The dinner with my parents on Saturday is to introduce them to Marcus" She said, thinking it was a good excuse
"What? Why didn't you just tell me? I didn't know things were getting that serious?" She said
"Yeah, it's very embarrassing having feelings. Anyway. Thank you" She said
"You're welcome" Amy replied, before making a comment about Rosa being in love. Rosa was able to shut her up quickly with a power pose of her own. Amy was right. But it wasn't with who she thought it was with.
Jake had decided to finish with Sophia, by dropping her box to her. It was planned. She was to walk in as Jake left. Planned because Charles was still sceptical. It proved better when Charles saw Sophia walk in, and watched Jake and her interact.
