***So...I am not quite sure when I actually thought up this piece...but I do know that this piece came to me after I thought 'I wonder how Audrey would react if she had been on painkillers...' and I couldn't but giggle at the prospect of writing Nathan dealing with Audrey loopy on painkillers.***
**In order for this prompt to make any sense...I am basing it around the time of season four where Audrey wakes up from surgery after getting shot and she is a little loopy from the pain medications the doctor has her under and she acts a little too honest for Nathan's comfort.**

Funny Things People Say Under Painkillers
Nathan watched as Audrey slowly began to become awake from her recent surgery and he couldn't help but feel a sense of assurance and peace as he knew that she would be okay. Though he noticed that she was a little groggy waking up which he knew was to be expected after going through a major surgery like she did and the doctors told him that she would probably be loopy from the amount of pain medication that they adminstered to her.
"Hey Audrey...how are you feeling?" Nathan asked, watching her open her eyes and give him the brightest smile that she had ever given him as soon as her eyes spotted him.
"I am feeling fine...no pain at all...almost like there wasn't a gunshot wound at all." Audrey smiled, grabbing a hold of his hand to give it a squeeze as he squeezed back.
"They uh...they have you on pain meds to help with any pain from the wound so you'll probably be a little groggy or loopy for a little while...but they said that you should make a full recovery...just take it easy for a little while to allow the wound to heal."
"You're hot when you are worried..." Audrey murmered, earning a bashful look from Nathan as he felt her thumb rub across his palm.
"Uh...Audrey...we have company here so you might want to cool it on the heavy flirting..." Nathan replied, gesturing with his thumb backwards to point at where Duke and Jennifer were quietly sitting in some chairs side by side.
"Don't worry Nate...I hear more from you two from below Audrey apartment so hearing her flirt with you like this isn't anything that I should be surprised about..." Duke replied, earning an embarrassed glare from Nathan as he saw Nathan's face burn up from embarrassment as he pondered Duke's words for a minute.
"Duke! You're embarrassing him..." Jennifer stated, glaring a little at Duke as she swatted a hand against his chest as she gestured towards Nathan.
"Well...it's the truth...given the fact that you two are not as quiet as you both think you're on any good night that my bar is open...you wouldn't believe how many excuses I have had to come up with to explain why there are female screams coming from Audrey's apartment..." Duke replied, placing his hands up in front of him in a gesture of defense.
''Duke!" Jennifer squeaked, backhanding him in the back of the head as Duke danced away from Jennifer's hand as it made a swiping gesture against his head.
"Uhh...Duke...Jennifer...I think it may be time for you to leave so that Audrey can rest." Nathan stated, before letting out a squeak at the feeling of Audrey's hand crawling its way up inside his shirt against his bare skin.
"Alright...bye Nathan...bye Audrey." Jennifer replied, hustling a protesting Duke out the door as Nathan practically had to keep Audrey's wandering hands off of his chest.
Audrey paid both Duke and Jennifer no mind as they hurried out the door with Jennifer shutting it on the way out as she busied herself with trying to remove his buttoned down shirt while Nathan gently batted her hands away from his shirt. Nathan had to keep from smiling at the way Audrey pouted when he grabbed both of her wrists and holding them down above her head.
''But I want you...'' Audrey whined, trying weasel her wrists out of his grip and return them to where they were placed on his chest.
''I know...babe...I know...but we're at the hospital and you're under the influence of anesthesia after having major surgery...so we can't have sex right now.'' Nathan stated, using one hand to keep a grip on both her wrists as the other cupped the side of her face.
"Oh...your no fun!" Audrey stated, an adorable pout forming across her face that Nathan couldn't help but smile at as he stroked the side of her face that he had cupped in his hand.
"Oh...I am plenty fun and you know it...I just can't be the type of fun you desire right now while you are dealing with a healing gunshot wound." Nathan murmured, continuing to smile as her eyes closed automatically as she leaned further into the warm hand of his open palm.
"I am so tired anyways..." Audrey murmered, yawning as she started turning onto her side and smiled as she grasped the other hand palming the other side of her face.
Audrey whined the moment Nathan removed his hand away from her face only to purr once she realized that he was trying to gather her up in his arms as she practically burrowed her face into the warmth of Nathan's chest.
"You're so warm...and strong...and manly...and so very much MY MAN...'' Audrey murmered, sweetly as she let her eyes close on a yawn while wrapping her arms snuggly around his waist as she began to relax against him.
"And you're the best thing to ever happen to me in a long time...did you know that, Parker?" Nathan murmered, softly with his lips pressed against her head as he soaked in the feeling of her hair tickling the skin of his lips.
Nathan looked down for a response from Audrey and found her peacefully asleep while slightly snoring against his chest and so he simply just pressed a lingering kiss atop her head. He smiled as she burrowed closer into him in response as he decided to close his eyes and sleep along with Audrey as he heard the footsteps of a nurse warily approaching them.
Nathan opened his eyes to meet the smiling eyes of the nurse who was checking up on Audrey's vitals before silently letting Nathan know with hand signals that she would be back in another hour with some food for the both of them. Nathan nodded and watched as the nurse left the room while he promptly shut his eyes and entered the world of sleep with Audrey.
Where he would remain in dreamland with Audrey before they were both interrupted by the arrival of food an hour later.
***This is where I will end this lovely story which took longer than I had anticipated in writing but I still enjoyed writing this story...nonetheless...and expect the third chapter of The Valentine's Day story pretty soon as no I never forgot about that story...I just got busy with school and am trying to balance the life of school as well as writing stories for my dear readers.***
