Chapter 3: Things Heard Around Haven
Duke was attempting to fill out a budget form that was sent to him by the Haven Committee of Party Planning when he was stopped by the words that came out of Jennifer's mouth and forced himself to look up at her face.
"What did you just say?" Duke asked, the shock evident in his voice as the words that he thought that he heard her say towards him erased any other thoughts of finishing the paperwork in front of him as he brought his undivided attention towards the woman who was his girlfriend in front of him.
"Why is everyone under the belief that I am pregnant?" Jennifer asked, curiously watching as Duke made an nervous expression on his face as he thought over her words.
'Pregnant? Why would everyone in town think that she was pregnant...unless...unless someone spotted me purchasing pregnancy tests for Audrey and mistakenly thought they were for Jennifer instead.'
"Why is everyone thinking that I am pregnant...Duke?!" Jennifer asked, again this time impatient as she watched him remain quiet.
"I can explain..." Duke replied, trailing off nervously as he watched her consider his request for a moment before nodding.
"Talk." Jennifer stated, taking a seat across from him as he took a seat as well.
"Audrey is the one that is pregnant...I bought the tests for her to take in order to confirm her suspicions." Duke replied, after taking a deep calming breath in order to collect his thoughts.
"Audrey and Nathan are having a baby..." Jennifer trailed off, watching as Duke nodded and grabbed ahold of her hand and squeezed it.
"Yes...and she asked me to buy the tests so that she could avoid the prying eyes and ears of the town gossip and be able to let Nathan know before the town did." Duke explained, as he watched Jennifer nod in an understanding way as she squeezed back.
"Has she told Nathan yet?" Jennifer asked, still holding onto his hands as she made eye contact with him and continued to take in the information that Duke just relayed to her.
"She said that she was planning on telling him this morning..." Duke replied, glancing downwards briefly at his phone as it lit up with a message from someone, "...judging by what Nathan just texted me...I would say that she told him the news already."
"What did Nathan text you?" Jennifer asked, glancing to the phone that was resting near the paperwork splayed across Duke's desk near his closed laptop as well as financial information binders in regards to the Gull.
Duke picked up the phone and awakened it to search for the text message in question before he promptly found it and showed the message that Nathan sent him to Jennifer who gingerly grabbed the phone to look at the message closely.
On the phone, the message read: Audrey is pregnant. I can't believe I am going to be a father again when she and I have barely discussed the loss of James.
"Again? What does he mean by that and who is James?" Jennifer asked, giving the phone back to him as she watched him sigh and turn it off before placing it carefully face down on the pile of paperwork.
Duke sighed heavily as he thought carefully over whether it was his place to explain who James had been or is to Audrey and Nathan as he had only known for a few months that James had been Audrey and Nathan's grown first born son and even now that still boggles his mind. Then again, he is more surprised about the fact that Jennifer has lived in Haven for almost a year and she hasn't already heard about the MAIN secret that surrounds the towns' mysteries.
"James Thaddeus Cogan is Audrey and Nathan's oldest son...he is basically the product of an afternoon tryst that Nathan had with one of Audrey's personalities whose name was Sarah Vernon." Duke stated, watching as the look of curiousity and shock as well as confusion slipped across her face.
"Wait...when did this conception happen and how is James's related to both Sarah Vernon and Audrey Parker?" Jennifer asked, as the journalist in her was brought to life even while confusion continued to set in along with the curiousity.
"Remember how I told you about the fact that Audrey was a woman named Lucy Ripley back in 1983..." Duke started, watching her nod in acknowledgement before continuing what he was saying towards her "...well...she was also a woman named Sarah Vernon in 1955."
"Okay...how is it possible that Nathan slept with Sarah and conceived James nearly fifty-nine years ago not to mention two decades before Nathan himself was born...does someone in this town have a time traveling trouble or age reduction trouble that we don't know about?" Jennifer asked, a little intrigued as she digested the information she was given by Duke.
"Yeah...an old man by the name of Stuart Mosely...he has this trouble that sends people back in time to points of his memories...of when he remembered to seeing them. A few weeks before the barn incident happened...Nathan and I had gotten flashed back to 1955 where we had ran into both my grandfather and Sarah Vernon who we discovered was the nurse in charge of taking care of young Stuart Mosely who had just came home a war hero. From the moment that I saw Nathan lay his eyes on Sarah Vernon...I kind of warned him not to do anything that might screw things up for Haven in the future...basically the same warning he gave me. I was like 'Just because she looks like Audrey doesn't mean she is Audrey' while also suggesting that she was a killer...I watched her shoot and kill my grandfather." Duke began.
"Wait...what?"
"Yeah...compared to my father who was bloodthirsty for troubled blood...my grandfather was similar to me in the fact that he didn't want or like killing the troubled." Duke explained, upon seeing the look of confusion etched across her face before continuing.
"So...anyway...apparently while I was trying to rewrite history by keeping my grandfather from getting killed...Nathan was doing a rewrite of history of his own with Sarah...and I didn't even know that he had slept with her until he confirmed that he had been the Colorado kid's father...from what I had heard...Audrey wasn't mad about Nathan sleeping with Sarah but from what I ALSO heard is that how Audrey found out about it was by being shown a memory of Sarah's via Agent Howard." Duke continued, glancing to see the shocked and humored expression.
"If I had been in Nathan's shoes...I would have been squirming and trying my best to get my love to stop watching." Jennifer stated, trying not to laugh as she took the scene and played it in her mind.
"My guess is...Nathan is probably lucky that it was just he and I who got sent back to 1955 and not he, I , and Jordan...because he was still in a relationship with Jordan at the time that he had that sexual moment with Sarah on the beach. From what I could see...the relationship that he had with Jordan wasn't real...he used her for information in regards to how the guard could help Audrey avoid the barn..."
"How did that relationship end?" Jennifer asked, genuinely curious as she leaned in to further listen to him.
"That relationship ended poorly...she attempted to use a young troubled girl named Ginger Danvers who had a trouble where she could manipulate your mind into doing her bidding...Nathan discovered her lie and when pressed about the reasons why she attempted to do it...she stated that the guard was planning on using Ginger to influence Nathan into manipulating Audrey into the barn...now obviously you and I both know how the events of the barn played out and so it didn't work out as Jordan fully realized that Nathan was WAY more in love with Audrey than he was with her and so she tried to find a quicker solution of getting rid of the troubles. Basically...that was what spelled out the immediate end of his and Jordan's relationship...and the end of him trusting the guard. Now you know and understand why Jordan had seemed SO bitter than necessary towards Nathan in the first moment that you met her..."
"Wow...did I hear correctly that she was referred to as a 'human taser' ?" Jennifer asked, immediately feeling less sorry for Jordan than she used to as she took in Duke's version of how events played out.
"Yep...her trouble was an unstable one where she released an electrical charge against anyone who accidently made contact with her bare skin." Duke replied, memories of what it was like to feel what Jordan's trouble had done to him when she accidently tased him after tazing Tommy.
"I am guessing there is some seriously major bad blood between he and the Guard since before the barn incident..." Jennifer trailed off, watching as Duke nodded his head in grim agreement before simultaneously writing some on one of the forms infront of him.
"Yeah...trying to get involved with the guard is one of the things that he regrets the most...second to getting involved with Jordan who he basically used in order to go undercover in the guard. He regrets Jordan the most because he had hurt Audrey in the process and hurting Audrey was the last thing that Nathan ever wanted to do...despite the fact that he was also hurting from her pushing him away and while he was with Jordan...Audrey started confiding more towards me and we got closer..." Duke replied, watching as Jennifer attempted to keep herself from being outright jealous.
"And did anything happen between you two?" Jennifer asked, calmly and carefully as she studied his face for any telling reaction of what he might say next.
"Something ALMOST happened between us...in a Colorado hotel room...we kissed but she had stopped it before things had gotten further and deep down I know she stopped it because of Nathan...and for which I was surprisingly okay with at the time because I had always had the feeling that Audrey harbored the same feelings for Nathan that Nathan had held for her and that was something that I had known for a while but it just didn't register until after we found Nathan dead the moment we came back from Colorado." Duke explained, watching as Jennifer took in the information that he just gave her.
"Let me guess...there is a troubled person who can bring back the dead and Audrey had you trigger the person's trouble in order to resurrect Nathan from the dead." Jennifer replied, watching as Duke's facial expression morphed from stoicism to surprise as he listen to what she just said.
"How do you know we did just that?" Duke asked, a tone of surprise in his voice as he looked directly into her eyes.
"Duke...I am a journalist with a knack for reading people and not to mention this is Haven...a place where bringing people back from the dead is a possible thing to happen as well as the fact that Nathan was alive and well when I first met him...and most certainly not a ghost." Jennifer stated, with an amused look on her face as she watched him think what she just said over.
"Sometimes I forget that you're perceptive..."
"What about James? Do Audrey and Nathan know the whereabouts of their son since the barn imploded?" Jennifer asked, shifting gears over to the burning question that she knew was resting unasked between Audrey and Nathan since the moment they became a couple.
"I know James Cogan is alive somewhere out there and I know he managed to escape the barn somehow before it imploded into nonexistence...A week after we returned to Haven...I had promptly put a buddy of mine on the task of instructing James to find me at my home the moment he got to Haven and that I would let him know where to find either Audrey or Nathan." Duke explained, watching as Jennifer's eyes widened at the mentioning of James being alive.
"Do Audrey or Nathan know that you are attempting to find James for them?" Jennifer implored, watching Duke shake his head no towards her question.
"No...I don't feel that it is appropriate to give them false hope if it turns out that my contact cannot be able to successfully do what I paid him to do...which is to bring James back to Haven...bring him back into Audrey and Nathan's life again where he belongs." Duke replied, doing some finishing touches on the budget form in front of him as he swiftly signed his signature down near the bottom of the form.
"Well...I can't stay long as I am needed back at the Herald...Dave and Vince are wanting me to get things ready for me to cover tonight's town ball..." Jennifer replied, gesturing the incoming text message from one of the brothers displayed on the phone as she stood up and prepared to leave the office.
"You're working tonight...that is kind of going to put a damper on the plans I had for us later tonight..." Duke stated, incredulously as he leaned back in his chair to glance at her.
"Don't worry Duke...once I am done with what the Teagues need me to do tonight...I am all yours." Jennifer assured Duke, with a wink of her eye before blowing him a goodbye kiss as she opened the door and was gone within moments.
Duke smiled for a moment before putting his attention back to the papers in front of him and was deep in thought before being startled by the sound of his phone ringing, he sighed and took his attention away from the paperwork infront of him to look at the caller ID that read "blocked number" before swiftly answering it.
"This better be important as you are currently taking me away from very important paperwork..." Duke started off, a frustrated tone before changing it to hopeful when he heard what the person had to say to him, "...you found him? Where is he located and how quickly can you talk him into coming back to Haven?"
Duke waited a moment to speak as he listened to more of what his contact had to say in regards to finding James Cogan before replying.
"Okay...okay...call me back whenever you have officially talked him into coming back to Haven as well as letting me know when he will be arriving in Haven and instruct him that it is important that he comes back to Haven before November arrives..." Duke stated, before ending the call and attempting to put his focus back on the task at hand.
However, just as he was about to set his phone down to focus more on the paperwork, he felt his phone vibrate the usual ringtone and he instantly knew who it was calling him.
'Am I ever going to finish this paperwork...' Duke thought, a heavy sigh escaping him as he picked up the phone and started speaking.

Nathan walked out of the local grocery store carrying a bag full of groceries for Audrey as well as him and whistle a happy tune as he neared the driver side door where he promptly unlocked the door and got in, carefully placing the bag of groceries on the middle seat next to him before shutting the door and ensuring that all of the windows were up before he placed a call towards Duke.
He waited a while before he heard Duke pick up and silently chuckled when he heard Duke's heavy sigh as he answered and proceeded to wait for Nathan to talk first before he said anything, however, Duke started speaking when Nathan didn't say much since he picked up.
"Um...Nathan...it isn't that I am not delighted to hear from you this Valentine's Day morning...which believe me...I am delighted but I am just wondering what it is you want from me as I am still trying to finish the last of some paperwork that the mayor wants done before tonight's ball."
"Hey Duke...why is it that you knew that Audrey was pregnant before I did...why were you the one to buy her those pregnancy tests and not me?" Nathan asked, not exactly angry with Duke but simply curious as to why Duke knew about Audrey's pregnancy before he did.
'Nathan...I offered to buy the pregnancy tests after she stated that she didn't want the town knowing before you did...because you know how the gossip mill runs in this town.'
"Wait...how long has she been feeling ill like that?" Nathan asked, trying to think back to times when he witnessed her getting sick in front of him and came up empty.
'She told me that she had started getting sick a month ago but she didn't think that she could have been pregnant until the symptoms got worse three days ago...she just thought that she could have gotten sick due to the stress of working a lot to protect the troubled. She claimed that she usually never forgot to take her birth control pill but that she had ran out of her usual prescription and had yet to refill it before the holidays. Why do I get the sense that she is only one who uses protection every time you guys have sex...because you are aware that the pill is only 99.9% at preventing an unplanned pregnancy...right?'
"Yes, Duke I am well aware of the pregnancy odds when it comes to using birth control but to answer your question...she is the only one that uses protection in the relationship because due to me being able to only feel her skin...I can't feel her with a condom on." Nathan replied, feeling a little shocked that he was revealing this information to Duke when normally he would be making a snide comment towards Duke about how his sex life with Audrey was any of his business.
'Wow...um...I didn't realize that she let you go in bare...most women don't allow men to do that and I thought that Audrey would be one of those women who make their men wear condoms...'
"She and I attempted to use a condom one of the first few times we had sex but I had trouble...you know...performing and so she kind of got impatient and practically yanked the condom off of me. From then on, it was silent agreement that we weren't to use condoms any time we had sex as it would hinder my performance."
'Had you two spoken with one another about the possiblity of having more kids despite dealing James's death? I mean...Audrey did witness you getting freaky with Sarah in 1955...which was how she found out that you fathered James...which I still can't believe you did during the time I was dealing with my grandfather.'
"We spoke about having more kids and she made it known that while she was open to the idea of having more kids it is just with the fresh wound of dealing with James's death...she felt that having another kid during a time when we were still dealing with the loss of James as well as the fact that we were still figuring things out in our brand new relationship that had just started and she didn't think it was an appropriate time to have a baby."
'Well...does she want this baby?'
"Definitely. You should have seen her when she told me that she was pregnant...she was literally beaming before I opened up the card and stared down at the stick she had placed in there with the card. She wants to have my baby...Duke."
'She actually placed the positive pregnancy test with the card...you know...some men would cringe at the idea of finding a stick that their girlfriend peed on...'
"Well...I am not like most men out there..."
'No...you definitely aren't like most men...you do know that the odds of whether or not you and Audrey's baby will inherit your trouble or whether it will simply inherit Audrey's immunity to the troubles is a 50/50 chance. You two might have to be prepared for the possibility of your son or daughter inheriting your curse...Nathan...as that is a strong possiblity of that happening. Though...the kid might get lucky and end up not getting your trouble...no offense.'
"None taken. Before I met Audrey...before she entered my once lonely life...I had given up on the prospects of falling love with a woman who would accept my trouble as just a condition and not for something that made me who I am as well as having a child of my own because I was afraid...I was afraid of passing down my trouble onto an innocent child. Now that she is in my life...my views on having kids have changed significantly. I wanted to be a father more than anything in the world...well...I technically am a father because of what I did with Sarah."
'Would it be okay if I asked you why would sleep with Sarah and take a long time to tell Audrey about it?'
"I slept with Sarah for various reasons and most of those reasons were because of the fact that I had missed how it was between Audrey and I...Sarah basically represented how Audrey used to be like before she started pushing me away. I didn't know about Sarah giving birth to James nine months after you and I left and Audrey had revealed who James's mother was...and I quickly did the math and deduced that he likely had to be my son."
'Okay...but how come you waited to tell her?'
"Because I didn't want to get hit in the face by her...nor did I want her to think less of me for impregnating a personality of hers and abandoning that personality to go back to my timeline in Haven...when I had no clue that I had gotten Sarah pregnant until Audrey told me that James was her son."
'Audrey wouldn't have hit you.'
"I know...but it just made me feel guilty because of how long I spent not telling her that I was James's father...I just didn't know a way to tell her that I was James's father without her thinking less of me."
'Audrey could never think less of you and you know it...she has been in love with you since as long as I can remember...maybe even since the day I met her.'
"Speaking of Audrey...I should really be getting back to her...I left her sleeping in our office with promises to return with something to aid her morning sickness...she got sick over the smell of my scents."
'If I were you...Nate...I would tell the Teagues to refrain from gifting you those scent baskets for the remainder of the first trimester...or possibly even the pregnancy.'
"Will do. Goodbye Duke."
'Bye Nathan.'
Nathan listened as the line went dead between he and Duke as he placed his phone in his pocket before putting his seatbelt on and putting the Bronco and drive as he made his way back to the station.
-Haven-
Back at the station...
Laverne walks silently towards the locked shared office of Audrey and Nathan with a bowl of soup in her hands as she stops in front of the locked door to carefully grab ahold of the set of keys in her pocket, balancing the bowl of what looked to be homemade soup in her other hand as she swiftly unlocked the door and softly made her way in so as not to wake Audrey up on the couch.
The sound of the door, however, wakes up Audrey who opens her eyes to the sound and lifts her head up and looks around in search of whoever it was residing in the office.
"Nathan...?" Audrey asked, groggily as she looked around the room from where she had been laying on the couch in confusion.
"It's just me hon..." Laverne stated, softly while carefully placing a covered bowl of homemade soup onto an open area of space on Audrey's desk before coming over to sit down near where Audrey was laying on the couch.
"Oh...hi Laverne...how are you doing this fine Valentine's Day morning?" Audrey stated, yawning as she moved away from where she was laying down on the couch.
"How are you feeling?" Laverne asked, a knowing smile crawling across her face as she took a good look at her face.
"I feel..." Audrey began, unsure of how to finish the statement without revealing the secret that she only just told Nathan about this morning.
"Pregnant?" Laverne replied, chuckling slightly as she watched a surprised expression fly across Audrey's face as she took in what Laverne just stated.
"How did you..." Audrey replied, a surprised look flying across her face before recognition dawns on her in a knowing smirk as she resituates herself on the couch.
"Audrey...a woman doesn't have more than one child and not be able to tell when another woman is pregnant...that and Nathan told me on his way out to get you something to help your morning sickness." Laverne stated, watching Audrey's facial expression change from a knowing smirk to concerned as she took in Laverne's statement.
"Nathan told you?" Audrey stated, in a slightly concerned tone of voice as she glanced at Laverne who took a hold of her hand and squeezed it gently.
"Don't worry hon...I am not going to say a word about baby Wournos until you guys are ready to annouce your pregnancy.'' Laverne replied, watching as Audrey's eyes change from slightly concerned to intrigued as she scrutinizes Laverne for a moment.
"How many babies have you had?"
"Five. The oldest is 28 and the youngest is 14 and yes...it can prove to be quite a headache at times when you're dealing with a teenager that doesn't wish to acknowledge that I am the mom and mom rules the house...meaning anything I say goes." Laverne stated, chuckling as she watched Audrey's eyes go round with surprise.
"Wow..."
"I know. Take it from me...the labor pain endurance improves after baby number two." Laverne stated, watching as Audrey chuckled a bit.
"I don't remember my pregnancy with James as Sarah Vernon...in case you are wondering...I wish that I did remember so that I could be able remember what it felt like to hold James in my arms whenever he was born. It kills me that I don't have no recollection of what it was like to give birth to mine and Nathan's son as the only memory I have of the concept of James is his conception inside Sarah's car." Audrey stated, clutching a throw pillow to her stomach as she laid back against the couch.
"You actually witnessed Nathan getting down and dirty with your 1955 former self in a car?" Laverne stated, almost falling out of her seat as she absorbed the information that Audrey had just said towards her.
"Yep...my old boss actually transported Nathan and I to the time in 1955 where he knew Nathan would know about...and I swear the look on his face when he watched me watch him have a fun time with Sarah in the front seat of her car...was something that I will never forget." Audrey stated, a chuckle forming as she said the last sentence and looked up to see Laverne trying not to laugh.
"Did he think you were going to smack him for sleeping and impregnating Sarah before abandoning her to go back to Haven in the present?" Laverne chuckled, shaking her head as she shifted in her seat.
"Apparently...he did because he was acting in the usual please don't hit me that men usually tend to get when they think that they have screwed things up somehow with their wemon. But...I would never have hit him...I swear." Audrey stated, chuckling as she curled up on the couch and laid her head back down on the pillow while continuing to look at Laverne.
"So...when do you believe you and Nathan conceived this bundle of joy?" Laverne stated, crossing her legs as she laid back in her chair and looked at Audrey.
"To be honest: I have zero clue. I mean...Nathan and I have been going at it since the day we started our relationship and the only protection that we used during that time was birth control." Audrey replied, turning over onto her back and staring up at the ceiling of her and Nathan's shared office.
"You do know that the pill is only 99.9% effective against preventing pregnancies..." Laverne replied, thinking before stating, "...and the only thing that could possibly make the pill fail is if you had been taking some form of antibiotics."
Audrey thought for a minute as her brain quickly digested the information that Laverne had just fed her when she suddenly sat up so quickly that she almost flopped back down on the couch from a wave of vertigo that passed over her.
"Damn...I just figured out when Nathan and I conceived...back in mid-November to early December...I had been taking antibiotics for a mild infection I had developed from a recent gunshot wound I had sustained two weeks prior. We were advised about not engaging in sexual activity during the time I was taking the antibiotics...then one thing lead to another after Nathan and I had arrived home to his house after leaving the winter ball..." Audrey took a breath before adding, "...which means that I am most likely a little farther along than I had been thinking."
"How far along do you think you are?" Laverne asked, her eyes glancing directly at Audrey as she got comfortable in the chair she was lounging in.
"At least two months..." Audrey replied, suddenly feeling sick as she slapped her hand against her mouth as she frantically motioned for Laverne to grab the trash can by her desk.
Upon seeing the pale look come across Audrey's face, Laverne immediately grabbed the nearest trash can by her and placed the can in her hand while moving bits of her hair away from her face as Audrey groaned pitifully into trash can in between puking up the contents of her stomach.
"I am not too late with the ginger ale and crackers, am I?" Nathan asked, startling both the women as they glanced up to see him standing in the doorway, holding a bag of saltines and ginger ale.
Nathan immediately went to Audrey's side upon seeing the pale look on her face as she gripped onto both sides of the can for dear life as she resumed puking into the can while relaxing a bit at the feeling of Nathan rubbing his hand up and down her back as she whimpered into the can.
"I'll just go search for a cup to put this in..." Laverne stated, gesturing towards the big bottle of ginger ale that Nathan had placed down along with the saltine crackers which she immediately placed in his free hand, "...try to get her to eat these in the meantime...it will settle her stomach enough to where she isn't puking so much."
Nathan briefly nodded as he placed the crackers on the open spot on Audrey's right as he gently swooped her up into his arms as he heard her exhale and relax against his chest as she lets go of the garbage can and groaned as the can made a plop as it slid from her hands and landed on the ground. She whimpered as she curled into his embrace and settled there with her head resting atop where his heart was beating steadily against her ear as she closed her eyes in vain in order to beg the world to stop spinning.
"I can't wait for this morning sickness to go away...it sucks that I will have another month of dealing with this horrible morning sickness." Audrey groaned, clutching onto Nathan's arm for dear life as she felt him plant a kiss on the crown of her head.
"You're the smartest and most strongest woman that I have ever known to fall in love with...and I doubt morning sickness is going to bring down such a tough woman like you." Nathan whispered, near her ear as he heard her chuckle against his chest in response as she cuddled even closer to him.
"Psh...you're just saying that just because you have to say it due to the fact that I am carrying your child...and apparently been carrying it for maybe about two months." Audrey chuckled, burying her face into the soft fabric of his light red henley as he tightened his arms around her frame protectively before halting slightly as his mind registered what Audrey just claimed.
"Are you saying that you think you're two months pregnant instead of only one month?" Nathan stated, his brow furrowing as his mind pondered what Audrey was suggesting.
''Nathan...we have been sexually active with one another ever since the first night we had sex and not to mention the fact you are the only man who has gone in me bare...'' Audrey trailed off, glancing up to find Nathan flashing the world's dirtiest smirk that she had ever seen him give and she couldn't help but chuckle.
"It was the night of the winter ball...wasn't it?" Nathan stated, chuckling as he continued to hold her snugly in his arms.
"You're pleased with yourself...aren't you?" Audrey stated, a look of amusement flying across her face as she felt his arms tighten slightly and protectly around her.
"Well...I could lie and say no I am not...but then that would be a lie...so fuck it...I am pleased with myself." Nathan replied, not missing the way Audrey simply giggled at his response.
"You're such a man!" Audrey replied, playfully swatting him on his arm as she again started feeling drowsy from the feeling of warmth that began to envelope her whole body seeping directly from his body heat.
"You know...it is okay if you want to take a nap before lunch...I will have Duke drop off some food for us to eat." Nathan stated, hearing Audrey softly yawn in his arms as she turned her body in order to rest her head directly on his arm.
"Okay...just as long as it isn't greasy or seafood as I am not sure if I am allowed to have lobster while pregnant." Audrey replied, yawning as she closed her eyes and relaxed her body.
"Don't worry...I am pretty sure that Duke will cook up something that will go along with the saltine crackers so that you and the baby get some food...and we'll ask the doctor whether or not eating lobster will do any harm to the baby...speaking of which...have you scheduled an appointment with the doctor yet?" Nathan replied, getting sleepy himself as Audrey's body heat radiated onto him.
"I have one set for tomorrow morning at 9:45 so please let Dwight know before the end of tonight or have Laverne let Dwight know that we'll be a little late getting in for work..." Audrey replied, nuzzling into the crook of his arm as she began to relax deeper and deeper into his warmth.
"Don't worry about it...Audrey. I will make sure that Dwight knows before the night is over with but what do I say if Dwight questions why we're going to the doctor? Audrey?" Nathan asks, hearing no answer from her as he glances down to find her peacefully sleeping and snoring away in his arms.
'I think I am going to let her sleep as I know that we both won't be getting the simple luxory of sleep as soon as baby Wournos makes his or her appearance in seven months...I find that oddly...I will be looking foward to losing sleep from getting up with the baby. Though...I don't know why.' Nathan muses, laying a soft and gentle kiss upon Audrey's head as he felt the tightening of her arms around his waist as well as the sigh of contentment escaping her mouth.
He allowed the future thoughts of him holding their little bundle of joy moments after Audrey gave birth, and in his thoughts, the picture of a little baby boy bearing the facial characteristics of him except for the ocean blue eyes that he would most surely inherit from Audrey.
He allowed all of those future thoughts come to his brain as he too drifted off into the land of sleep with Audrey as unbeknowest to the both of them, Laverne had walked back in with a paper cup in her hand and was just setting it down upon Nathan's desk when she snuck a peek at both Audrey and Nathan peacefully sleeping on the couch. She smiled to herself as she took a moment to study them both before her nose picked up the putrid stench of vomit coming from the trash cans of Audrey and Nathan's desks.
'I may as well clean both of these trash cans out so that Audrey's doesn't have to be forced to smell her own vomit as she works...' Laverne thought, as she quickly and quietly swiped both cans up with both hands while walking as carefully as she could out of the office without waking the sleeping duo on the couch.
Once outside, Laverne carefully set the trash cans down at her feet before quietly closing the door to Audrey and Nathan's office and picking the trash cans back up and walking swiftly in the direction of the ladies restroom.
***A/N: And this is where we will leave the chapter finished at as I am not sure when I will be able to update for this story after this update gets published and it doesn't mean that I will abandon this story...I will never abandon this story...I will simply be putting it on a hiatus until I can come up with new ideas for chapter four. You will most likely read some smut between Audrey and Nathan...starting in either between chapter 4 to chapter 6 although I have yet to put everything together. I don't even remember when I began writing this chapter and to be honest: I wasn't even sure I was going to be able to finish it at all due to me being busy with school.***
**A/N 2: For any of the readers who have been wondering whether or not Audrey and Nathan will be giving birth to a boy or girl in the next seven months in the storyline...I decided a long time ago that when I had came up with the idea for this story back in middle school (such a long time) that Audrey and Nathan will be giving birth to an adorable little baby boy whose name is in the title of this story. Originally, I had planned on keeping the gender of the baby a secret from both you guys as well as Audrey and Nathan until you guys read the chapter of the baby's birth in order to make it be like some sort of surprise. I, however, decided that I was going to scrap that plan after realizing that I had already spilled the beans about the baby being a boy back in the author's note of the first chapter but was still going to go ahead with the plan of writing into the storyline of both Audrey and Nathan wanting to wait until the baby is born to find out if it's a boy or girl. I went with the second route because I felt that it just made much more sense then continuing to go through with the first route. So...basically the main thing is that y'all know that the baby that they are currently having will be a boy...but Audrey and Nathan have no clue if it's a boy or girl.**
*Please read and leave a review on this story...it doesn't matter which chapter you leave the review on...I would simply enjoying finding out what you thought about this chapter as reviews keep a writer like me going. Also...please expect to find the story The Best Morning of Nathan Wournos's Life in the nearby future as it is currently in the progress of being finished.*
