Chapter 7 – Intermission
Lord Fuse. The personification of Planet Fusion. The entity behind the war against Earth that would soon end in Earth's total and complete destruction, absorption and consumption. The cause of pain, suffering and death all over the world. No, not just the world. Countless planets have been laid waste by his forces. Each victory, increasing his power. Each defeat, increasing his bloodlust. And now, both mighty and bloodthirsty, Lord Fuse's fear-inducing figure was sitting on his massive throne. Several of his creations, his Fusions, entered the hall, bowed and stood before him in a half-circle. Compared to him, they were just flies and roaches, and yet they were the ones that carried out his tasks with utmost precision and ruthlessness. Most of the time. That was the reason his most trusted Fusions were called here – he was dissatisfied.
Fusion Demongo, Fusion Courage, Fusion Mandark, Fusion Doyle and Fusion Agent Six stood before him.
"Speak" – Lord Fuse proclaimed. His booming voice echoed through the chamber.
"But Master, we're still waiting for-" – started Fusion Mandark, but was interrupted by Lord Fuse.
"They have their tasks to carry out. You are the ones that have been called. Speak."
"M-m-my monsters have been scouring the island. I personally assure you, Master, I will f-fix... my mistake." – Fusion Mandark stuttered.
"See to it. Personally. Else I will fix mine – in letting you live."
Fusion Courage sniggered.
"Oh yeah? What are you laughing about?" – Fusion Mandark turned to him. "You almost failed your siege. If MY monsters hadn't helped out..."
"Your monsters?" – Fusion Courage retorted. "You're just a glorified middle man for-"
"Silence" – Fuse said calmly. He didn't even have to raise his voice – his terrified underlings immediately obeyed. "Both of you. I need not address what will happen if you fail again. You!" – he addressed Fusion Courage. "Hunt down the remaining men in the Fireswamps. And you!" – his soul piercing eyes were laid upon Fusion Mandark. "Take him down. Or take him out. This has gone on for long enough."
"Yes, my Lord" – both of them bowed out of the chamber. Lord Fuse now turned his eyes on the Fusions of Agent Six and Doyle.
"Demongo has finally made his move. His efforts must be halted. Track him down and follow him."
"Mastah, permission to speak?" – Fusion Demongo squeaked. Lord Fuse remained silent, which in this case meant approval. "I believe I should be the one to destroy my counterpart – I am the only one powerful enough to do so, and my power would double after-"
"No." – Lord Fuse proclaimed. "Have you not considered that if he defeats you, and absorbs your essence, his own power will double?"
"But my Mastah-"
"This is the final word. Your demise at his hands would be... Problematic. " – Lord Fuse now spoke to Fusions Six and Doyle again. "You may not be able to defeat him – so simply track him down. Reveal his secrets to me. But do not act on a confrontation."
The remaining Fusions also bowed out of the throne room. In the next room, Fusion Mandark and Fusion Courage were still arguing with each other. "Enough" – Fusion Six said and raised his blade towards them. "I don't think this is what he meant by fixing your mistakes."
"Yeah, you better get on it, Mandark." – Fusion Doyle butted in. You messed up big time with the airship. And to think it was your counterpart who designed it – you're supposed to have his genius, and yet it's your fault the attack failed."
"And the ship is being led by Tetrax." – Fusion Mandark retorted. "Let me ask you, where is his Fusion counterpart? Or did you forget that you two are the ones who allowed his demise?"
"That doesn't-" – Fusion Courage started, but Fusion Mandark yelled "SHUT IT!"
Doyle chuckled, Six and Demongo remained silent.
"Now, fruitless bickering aside, gentlemen, I have a request for you" – Fusion Mandark continued.
"Oh, look, Six, he has a REQUEST for us, and we're just gonna-" – Fusion Doyle was about to go on a sarcastic rant, but he was interrupted by Six.
"We're not catching your target. We have our own mission to do."
"I'm sure you do, but it's nothing like that. Actually, it's nothing at all. That's what I ask you to do – in case you come across him. Leave him alive. I will take care of him personally. And that goes for you too, Courage. Although, I doubt you could kill him, even if you wanted to." – Fusion Mandark chuckled. Fusion Doyle and Six left them to keep arguing, and even though none of them noticed how or when, Fusion Demongo was also gone.
