Chapter 2

"Come on, movie star! We're going to be late!" Madison yelled from the kitchen as she gathered her keys and purse to head out the door. Today was going to be her first doctor's appointment with Kevin. This sure was going to be interesting. Dr. Mason didn't know that he was about to be hit with the Pearson charm full throttle.

The press hadn't figured anything out as yet, even though Kevin's new film was getting some notable buzz so the media interest in him was higher than usual. They needed to keep this quiet for as long as possible. She wasn't ready for her life to be splashed all over the gossip rags, not until she had the courage to face her family. She had convinced Kevin that he should wait to tell Kate and his mom, until the doctor told them they had passed the first trimester. She was doing everything in her power to keep these babies safe and healthy and all hers until she had to share them.

Kate didn't know she had moved in. How Kevin planned to keep this from her was anyone's guess, but she was keeping her apartment for a couple more months. This arrangement was so new, she didn't want to risk not having someplace to go, when things didn't work out. Things never worked out and she was never going to be in that place helpless and hopeless again without someplace where she belonged. Realising that her thoughts were veering into the dark corners of her mind, she breathed in and out quickly, pushed away from the kitchen counter she was leaning against and started to walk into the living room.

Probably still lost in thoughts, she walked straight into Kevin and her face planted right in the middle of his chest. God he smelled good, was her first irrational thought, as his arms instinctively came up to steady her, and her second though was Oh no, sniffing that cologne is making her nauseated. Covering her mouth quickly with her hand, she stepped away and rushed into the downstairs bathroom, where she was about to lose the single slice of toast she was able to eat this morning.

Kevin sat on the bottom step of the staircase, as he waited on Madison who had just bolted down the hall. I guess this is what life is going to be like, women rushing off to puke as soon as he touched them, he smiled to himself at the thought. He'll take it. He looked down the hallway when he heard the door to the bathroom open.

Standing, he looked at a dazed Madison , and started towards her. She held up her hand in a stop motion, while she continued to stand at the bathroom door.

"You need to go back upstairs and shower."

"What?"

"Upstairs. Shower. Soap and Water."

Bewildered he continued to stare at the woman who had clearly lost her mind.

"No cologne this time, unless you want me constantly puking on those ultra nice shoes of yours."

Realisation dawned on Kevin as he looked at her, thinking she was over exaggerating.

"Common on, it's not that bad. This is some good stuff. Madison we're going to be late."

"I will go to this appointment without you, unless you go shower and come back down without that cologne. I mean it Kevin. I will not sit in any confined space with you and that smell."

Sensing a determination in her that reminded him of a superhero, he shook his head disbelievingly as he turned and headed back up the stairs.

"You know, you're crazy right."

"I'm fully aware. Now don't come anywhere near me, until you have washed that scent off you."

He walked into his bedroom, undressing as he headed to the shower. Irrational as the request was, he figured that complying was going to be a whole lot easier than arguing. Ten minutes later, having showered and used liberal amounts of soap to make sure that his very expensive cologne was no longer detectable on his skin, he dressed quickly and was heading back down the stairs.

Madison stood at the base, leaning against the post, looking a little pale and unsteady. Concern etched on his brow he descended quickly.

"Hey, are you okay? " he asked as he reached her and gently placed his hand on her shoulder. Her eyes were read and her face looked worried. This couldn't just be the nausea, he thought.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little drained I guess. It's been a rough morning."

She finally looked up at him at him and gave him a soft smile. A smile that caused him to smile back, that caused him to let go of the tense breath he had held, when he saw her a moment ago. Kevin didn't have time to wonder why that simple, stupid smile made his heart light, but he knew he was glad that it the simple stupid smile had reached her eyes. That's all that mattered. It was real.

"Thanks." She said simply as she moved for her bag which sat on the entry way table. "Let's go. I called Dr. Mason's office and let him know we would be a few minutes late."

" Great. Just let me grab my keys..'

"We're taking my car."

"No, we're not. No offense Madison, but when was the last time you had the oil changed?"

She looked at him blankly.

"Please tell me that at some point in that car's life it has been taken for a service check."

"Of course. Maybe last year or bef..."

"Stop. You will not be driving that car, until we've had it checked out. In the meantime, you can always use my car."

"Kevin, your car is a tad bit flashy for me."

" It's a black Audi. Get over it. I will not let you back in your car, until I've had it checked."

Incredulous, he grabbed the keys from her hand, and laid his other had on the small of her back as he gently guided her out the door.

She scowled up at him as she allowed him to guide her out the door.

"Let's just hope, you're not famous enough to be spotted by paparazzi today. I'm not having a good hair day." She retorted as they headed out to the garage.
