Chapter 33: Date Night

Nervous was an understatement for a lifetime. Tonight is date night. Alice couldn't stop stressing over the perfect dress, makeup and the fact she was pregnant! She hadn't planned on going dating while being this ginormous. She didn't feel like time was on her side. Sure there were perks and cons to being pregnant while dating. But Alice couldn't be happier. She couldn't wait for her bundle of joy. The months were getting closer to her due date. Lately heartburn had kicked her throat and chest. It was a pain in her ass.

She picked up her phone and dialed." Hermione, I need your help!"

"Why?"

"I'm going on a date!"

"A date?! With who?!" Hermione screeched loudly over the phone speaker.

"FP. He asked me out last night or and he told me that he loves me!" She pulled the phone away from her ear.

"He what?! Oh, my gosh! My best friends are in-love!" Alice smiled at her friend's over excitement.

"Yes, and yes! Calm down, Mione it's just a date."

She could hear Hermione basically telling her to shut up and let her have hope. "I need help finding the right makeup look. Could you come over and help me?"

"I'll be right over!" The phone beep, stunning Alice.

Ten minutes later the door bell rang. Alice traveled down the staircase and over to her door. "Coming!" She shouted before she opened it.

"Al, you need better shoes. You can't wear heels when your pregnant." Alice sighed.

"I know, I know! Ugh! This is so stressful." Hermione guided her toward the couch and she plopped onto the sofa.

"Al, chill, it's all going to work out."

FP came to the door, sweating like a pig. When Alice opened the door, FP's jaw almost fell to the floor. She looked stunning, breath-taking. He held out his hand. She graciously took his hand he offered and walked with him. FP opened the passenger side for her and lifted her up so that she could get into his truck.

Once they arrived at the restaurant the hostess took them to their booth. She came with two menus and asked what they liked to drink. Alice ordered water to avoid getting heartburn and FP got himself a sweet tea with one sliced lemon. Alice looked around the dimly lit room and smiled.

"FP, this place is gorgeous. How much did this all cost?" He waved it off.

"Don't worry about it, Al. It's my treat!" He announced as he ripped open one sugar packet and poured it in the glass.

The light fixture hung mid-height above their heads which meant that it wouldn't be in their way as they continued their date. The waiter came by two moments later to take their orders. Alice decided to try avoiding spicy since that upset her heartburn the most.

"I'll have the maple glazed chicken with a side of pickles if you can." Ignoring the look on the waiter's face Alice handed him the menu.

The waiter looked in FP's direction. "And for me, I'll have the steak."

"Medium rare, well-done or extremely well-done?"

He thought for a moment." Well-done."

"And for the side?" He started to pick up his pad and pen again, waiting patiently for the man to answer.

"I'll have the mash potatoes."

After the waiter disappeared, FP faced his date. "Pickles? Since when you couldn't stand them a few weeks ago." Alice sipped some water before she smiled.

"Baby loves pickles, FP. I can't deny her what she wants."

"I guess you can't." He chuckled.

When the food finally made their way to the table, Alice's stomach growled, causing FP to shoot a look in her direction. He chuckled at her when her plate barely left the waiter's hand before he set it down. He shot the guy an apologetic glance when he gave FP his steak. He grabbed the steak knife and made a diagonal cut along the side before popping it into his mouth and began to chew.

"Anymore prank wars at Jones casa?" Alice broke into conversation watching as FP enjoyed his steak.

FP shook his head." Not as of yet, but I'm sure my kids have something cooking up in their heads."

"Yeah, I'd suppose. Polly loved teasing Betty when they were JB's age."

"My son is almost an adult. I'm afraid he'll never get out of this phase." He plopped another piece of steak into his mouth.

"Oh, let's hope so. I don't think Betty will put up with his childish shenanigans." A light chuckle left the tip of her tongue.
