Running with Ghosts
The sun had just set in the Northwestern American desert as Wile E. started another one of his plans to capture the Roadrunner. He was once again trying to use an Acme rocket and roller-skates to chase the bird. He waited on the side of the quiet road for his prey to appear.
"Meep Meep." the Roadrunner said as he raced by.
Wile E. quickly lit the rocket fuse and blasted off after the tall, blue ostrich-like bird. The two of them raced across the sandy desert, under the night sky. Roadrunner suddenly turned left just before Wile E. could catch him. The coyote turned a few seconds later, now having to catch up with the bird again after losing a lot of ground.
As they ran a ghostly fog came out of nowhere. This did bother the two, after all, fog was very common at this time of year, so they just continued their chase. As they ran into the fog got thicker to the point where Roadrunner had to slow down in order not to trip on a rock or fall off a cliff, although it did mean Wile E. was catching up with him rather quickly. Just as Wile E. was close enough for the rocket ran out of fuel and he slowly came to a stop. The Roadrunner got farther away until he stop running. He looked round to see he had run into an empty old fashion west town. It seemed strange to him, as he had never seen this town before. The town looked like no one had lived in it for years with buildings that had rotting wood and windows with broken glass. The Roadrunner walked slowly, feeling uneasy as the fog gave the already spooky town an even creepier appearance. He crossed over a railway track that went through the town, he had just got the other side, when he heard Wile E. coming up behind him. Roadrunner began to run but found that he couldn't move. He looked down to see if someone was holding him but there was no one there. Roadrunner gulped as Wile E. reach him but just before Wile E. could grab him the coyote was knocked down. Normally Roadrunner would have just continued running but he was more terrified by the fact that Wile E. looked like he had just been hit by a train, only he hadn't seen a train hit the coyote.
As Wile E. got up Roadrunner realized that what was ever was holding him was had let go. He was just about to run when a wicked laugh filled the air. Wile E. and Roadrunner looked at each other in fear and nodded to agree to have a truce until they got out of this terrifying place.
They began to walk away, trying not to draw attention so that whatever was in this town wouldn't come after them. They had just gotten a few feet away from the railway track when suddenly three ghosts came out of a building and booed and hissed at them causing Wile E. to jump into the Roadrunner's arms.
The ghosts disappeared, cackling as they did so. Wile E. got down from the bird's arms. He and Roadrunner chuckled nervously and began to walk, faster this time and looking around to make sure that nothing was following them or that something wasn't waiting in the shadows to strike.
They walked in silents, then the laugh was heard again. Wile E. and Roadrunner looked around to see where the noise had come from. They were just about to start walking again when the laugh happen again only it was louder time... And closer.
They slowly turned around to see... nothing just the empty town. The two looked at each other and shrugged. They turned back to the direction they were heading in when suddenly a ring of ghostly blue fire appeared in front of them and blasted out of the ground. Wile E. and Roadrunner held each other in fear as the fire roared. When it finished, where once was a ring of fire stood in front of them a terrifying ghost horse that had bits of flash missing, but what truly scared them was the rider. He was the same ghostly blue as the horse and was also missing bits of flesh. He wore a torn cowboy's outfit, stood seven feet tall, and carried a sharp, sword. The ghostly cowboy grinned at them, chuckling to himself. Wile E. and Roadrunner turned pale and gulped. The ghost then raised his sword and swung it at them. They ducked and began to run in the opposite direction. Even though Roadrunner could reach speeds of over two hundred miles per hour, the magic of the ghost pretended him from going any faster than the twenty, Wile E. could only just catch up with him. The ghost chased them through the town. Closer and closer he got until at last, he caught up with them. He raised his sword, the two frightened mortals closed their eyes in fear, preparing to be beheaded, but just as the ghost's sword came close to them... it vanished along with cowboy and the horse.
Roadrunner and Wile E. stopped and looked back at where the ghost once stood. Wile E. let out a small nervous chuckle, that the Roadrunner later joined. They couldn't believe their luck. They just escaped certain death from a psychopathic ghost, something that they thought would never happen.
When they had finished laughing they stood there for a moment. Then they looked at each, both knowing that now they were safe their truce was over. They were about to begin their chase once again.
Roadrunner stuck out his tongue. "Mee..." he stopped. The two looked back and saw the town fade away. There was nothing left, no buildings, no objects, or anything that could have proven that there was a town there before.
Roadrunner and Wile E. gulped then looked at each other. It was safe to say that this was a night that neither of them would forget...
...But wished they could.
