Chapter 1
A Friendship Blooms
Barbara and Kara were at the former's apartment. They had just finished watching the news, about how they as Batgirl and Supergirl respectively, had just defeated Livewire, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn. Barbara had invited Kara over for a slumber party to celebrate their victory.
"So what do what do you want to do first?" asked Kara, as Barbara turned the Television to the video setting.
"Well, we could watch a movie or play a game?" Barbara said. She walked over to a shelf that had several VHS.
"What kind of movie were you thinking of? Kara asked.
"Cheesy action flick. Anyone, in particular, you what to see?" replied Barbara.
"What you got?" Said Kara.
"Well, there's this one," Barbara said, picking up a VHS box and showed it to Kara. The box cover had a grey rabbit dressed similarly to Batman and a black duck dressed similarly to Superman.
"Batrabbit vs Superduck?" Kara said in amusement. "That's an actual film?"
"Yep. So do you want to watch it or would something else?" Barbara asked.
Kara thought for a minute as she looked at the video. "How cheesy is it?" she asked.
"Really cheesy," Barbara said.
"Alright then, Batrabbit vs Superduck it is," Kara said. Barbara put the VHS tape into the machine.
The two watched a so bad it's good film, laughing at the terrible dialogue and corny acting. They spend the rest of the night chatting about random things and playing charades something which Barbara seemed to a pro at, whilst Kara seemed to be mediocre at best.
"Rabbit eating a carrot? No that's four words. um.." Kara tried to guess what Barbara's charade was. The timer pinned before Kara could say her next guess.
"Times ups," Barbara said.
"What was it?" Kara asked, disappointed that she couldn't get the answer.
"Bugs Bunny," Barbara said smugly.
"Ok then, guess my one," Kara said before she started her charade.
"Two words, first word," Barbara said as Kara a small jog on the spot. "Roadrunner," Barbara said with confidence.
"Are you sure you're not cheating?" asked Kara, frowning due to the redhead getting the answer right in less than three seconds.
"Nope. I'm just really good at this game." Barbara again said with confidence.
"Are you sure it not because I'm a rookie at this," Kara said with a small laugh.
Barbara laughed as well before looking down at the floor.
"Is something wrong?" Kara asked.
"Hm, oh nothing," Barbara said.
"Are you sure?" Kara asked.
"I was just wondering, what was life like on Krypton? You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." the redhead said not trying to make blond upset. Kara hesitated for a second before she began to talk about her past.
"Well actually, I'm from its sister planet, Argo. It was a great place to live. It was peaceful and full of great people." Kara said with a small smile. "I had lots of friends, we used to hang out quite a lot. Just doing random stuff." her smile slowly turned into a frown "And my family were just wonderful." Tears were beginning to form in her eyes. Barbara gave her a hug to comfort her.
"I bet they would be very proud of the person that you are," Barbara said. Kara looked at her with a small smile as tears rolled down her cheek. "Thanks," Kara said.
"What are friends for," Barbara said.
"Is it okay if I ask you something?" Kara said as she wiped away her tears.
"Sure." Barbara said.
"What was your favorite thing you did when you were little?" Kara asked.
"That's easy. It going to this small ice cream shop downtown." Barbara said.
"Really?" Kara said in a tone that was somewhere in-between confused and amused.
"I know it seems strange, but I loved going there. I used to go there at least once a week every summer. It got to the point where the shop owners even remembered my name." Barbara said as she thought back to her childhood. "I would get chocolate, my dad would get vanilla and..." she paused for a second before her tone turned sorrow "... and my mum would get strawberry.
"What was your mum like?" Kara asked genuinely.
"She was just... amazing. She was always there for me when I needed her. She comforted me when I got scared during thunderstorms, told me bedtime stories, take me to the park, and pushed me on the swings." Barbara said, trying to hide the sadness in her voice.
"What happened to her?" Kara asked.
Barbara hesitated for a second before she continued. As spoke her tone of voice got sadder to the point where she could no longer hide it form Kara. "One night we were driving with my dad. We were coming home after a meal out when out of nowhere this car just drove straight into us. Me and dad survived with only a few injuries, but my mum…" Barbara couldn't finish as her eyes began to water.
"I'm sure she be proud of you and what you have been doing for Gotham." Kara said as she put her hand on Barbara's shoulder. Barbara gave a small tearful smile, which Kara returned.
"I guess your right." Barbara said as she removed the tears from her face.
"And I know that she be proud of what you did tonight." the blonde said.
"I can't argue with that." Barbara said she was being to feel much better.
"Yeah. She be happy knowing your Gotham's second-best hero." Kara said.
"Who the first then?" Barbara asked in confusion.
"Me." Kara said.
"You only saved the city once." Barbara said with a laugh.
"Just goes to show how great I am at it." Kara said teasing the redhead.
Barbara grabbed a pillow and swung it at Kara, it hit the blonde right in the face, knocking her to the floor.
"Looks likes Gotham's number one was taken down by a pillow." Barbara teased with a smirk on her face.
Kara looked at the redhead with a smirk. "You asked for it." she said grabbing her own pillow and began her counterattack. Their pillow fight lasted for about twenty minutes, ending in a tie. After that, they went to bed having learned more about each other. They both knew that this would be a night that they would never forget.
