Chapter 3
A Visit to Metropolis
It had been five months since Barbara and Kara had stopped Harley and Ivy. They had agreed to meet up in person for the week in Metropolis as Superman was needed elsewhere and had put Supergirl in charge of protecting the city. He had agreed that Kara could have help from Batgirl as long as Bruce allowed it, which he did.
As Barbara got off the train, she looked around the station, it was bigger than the one in Gotham and a lot safer. Then she noticed a woman with brown hair and glasses. Barbara looked closer at the woman and recognized the face. A smile came to her face and she walked over to the woman.
"Hello, Kara." Barbara said.
Kara looked at her in surprise "How did you know it was me?"
"I'm good at remembering faces." Barbara said. Kara gave a worried look. "What's wrong?" Barbara asked.
"Do you think anyone else has noticed?" Kara asked nervously.
"I don't have to worry. Most people don't about Clark secret." Barbara said, whispering the last part so that only Kara could hear.
"True, especially Lois." Kara said.
"Real, she still hasn't fingered it out since our slumber party?" Barbara asked.
"She saw him without his glasses and still thinks they're different people." Kara said.
"Your kidding?" Barbara said in astonishment. Kara gave her a look that said "I wish I was."
"How the hell she one of Metropolis' best reporters?" Barbara asked.
"She good at getting stories but her people skills are terrible." Kara said.
"Oh really." Barbara said.
"Yep." Kara answered.
"Well, anyway it's good to see you again." said Barbara.
"Good to see you too." Kara said. "So how have things been in Gotham?"
"You're not going to believe it but Harley and Ivy escaped a few months ago." Barbara said.
"No." the blond said in shock.
"Yep, we've tried to find them but so far we've found nothing." the redhead said.
"Well, you'll get them. They can't hide forever." Kara said.
"You got that right." Barbara said.
"Yep. By the way, do you have your outfit?" Kara asked in a whisper. Barbara nodded.
"Good, so what you what to do first?" Kara asked.
"I would like to go site seeing. What's the best Metropolis has to offer."
Kara thought for a moment about what would be a highlight of the city to take her friend to.
"Well, there's Metropolis zoo." Kara said.
"Sounds great so what's the fastest way to get there train or car?"
"Both." Kara said.
"Aright then. We'll that a taxi." Barbara said.
I could fly us there." Kara whispered in a jokey tone.
Suddenly the train started at an unsully high speed shocking everyone as they watched the locomotive speed down the track. Seeing this Barbara and Kara quickly got out of sight. They reappeared in the superhero outfits and took the sky.
"Look up there." a woman shouted
"It's Supergirl." a man said.
"Who's that with her?" asked another man as Supergirl flew after the train carrying Batgirl.
Inside the driver was tied up. He struggled to get free as a man dressed in a green superhero outfit with a red exclamation mark in a circle, came in.
"Gadzooks. Some despicable villain has tied up the train driver." the man said. Pointing a new camera at the driver.
"Sorry about this." a chubby man said, appearing behind the drive. He then ran over to the camera and got behind it to film the event.
"If someone doesn't this train then it will crash, taking the lives of thousands with it." the imposter said. "Luckily Superiorman is here to save..." That was when Supergirl and Batgirl appeared in front of the train.
"Cut." Superiorman said. "Why didn't you tell me that Supergirl was still in Metropolis?!" he asked the fat man.
"But, you only told me to tell you when Superman had left." he said to Superiorman.
"Who are you?" asked Supergirl.
"I'm Superiorman. Metropolis newest and greatest hero." the egotistical man said.
"By putting people in danger?" Batgirl asked retrocial.
"Look doll, why don't you go make dinner in the kitchen." Superiorman said.
Barbara's face turned red and she let out a small grown.
"Actually, that's Batgirl. She's one of Gotham's heroes." the man behind the camera said.
"Just roll the camera again." the fake superhero said. "Now then I Superiorman will pull this lever and save the day." he said pointing to a red lever that said "Energy Break." He then pulled it but accidentally broke it.
"We dead." the tubby man said with fear.
See this the two women quickly got to work to try to stop the runaway train.
"So what's the plan?" Barbara asked.
"Working on it." Kara said flying down to the front using her super-strength to try and slow it down.
Up ahead Barbara saw the next station, another train was there waiting to depart. She also saw an empty siding. She got out one of her Batarang and waited for the right moment to throw it towards the switch. Once she thought she was close enough, she through the Batarang. It hit the switch and the points changed to the siding. The train when into the sidings and began to slow down. As it reached the other side of the station platform it stopped.
"We did it." Kara said looking up towards Barbara.
"Oh no you don't it was me. I did this I masterminded this entire operation. I was me." Superiorman said, then he noticed a few police officers standing behind him. "It was him, it was definitely Carl." he pointing to the fat man next to him.
"Um, What?" Carl said.
The officers went over to Superiorman and arrested him. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be used against you in a court of law."
"But it won't me, honest. I'm just an average citizen." Superiorman said as the officers took him into their police car.
"Tell to the judge." the officer said as she put Superiorman into the car, whilst another officer put Carl in.
"Thanks, Supergirl." an officer said. "And thank you, miss...um."
"Batgirl. Happy to help out." the woman in black said as untied the driver.
"Thanks." he said.
"You're welcome." Batgirl said.
"Well thanks again you two." he said before walking to his police car.
The two heroes left the scene, once again with Supergirl carrying Batgirl as the passengers in the coaches cheered.
After changing back into their normal clothing, Kara putting her wig and glasses back on. The two of them spent the rest of the day at Metropolis Zoo. They saw serval animals including Rhinos, Wolves, Cheetahs, Zebras, and Crocodiles.
"Aren't they adorable?" Babara said as they watched the Penguins swimming and walking around their encloser.
"They Definitely are and better the one in Gotham." Kara said causing Barbara to let out a small chuckle.
"You got that right." Barbara said.
"So are penguins you're favorite animals?" Kara asked.
"I do like them, but Elephants are my favorite." Barbara answered just before a penguin swimming next to them splashed the redhead.
"Guess he doesn't like second best." Kara said.
"Like someone else I know." Barbara said in a jokey tone as she wiped away the saltwater on her face.
"Haha very funny." Kara said.
"So which animal do what to see next?" Barbara asked.
Kara looked at the zoo's map and her decision. "I know which one but it's a surprise." They walk through the zoo until they got to the enclosure that had a small herd of African elephants which was made up of a bull, three cows, and a calf. Kara smiled seeing Barbara's face full of pure joy.
"They're beautiful." Barbara said in amazement.
"They are." Kara.
"Thank you." Barbara said.
"Glad you like it." Kara said. "By the way why are elephants your favorites?"
"Well, they're big and strong but also really gentle," Barbara said.
"Sounds like my cousin." Kara said as the calf walk toward them.
"It does actually." Barbara said she had yet to meet the steel but from what she had heard about him, Superman sounded like a really nice guy.
The baby elephant stood next to them on the other side of the fence, playing with a large pile of sand.
"Aw, she's adorable." Barbara said.
The calf threw some sand onto its back and accidentally got some in her trunk causing her to sneeze. Unfrontanly for Kara, the sneeze was in her direction and she got hit by a mix of sand and mucus. Barbara tried to hold back from laughing.
"It's not funny." Kara said seeing Barbara's face.
Then Barbara noticed that the sneeze had blown the wig a little exposing some of Kara's blonde hair.
"Kara your wig." Barbara whispered urgently.
Kara looked up. Noticing the blonde hair she quickly moved the wig back into its normal place. She checked around to make sure no one had noticed.
"That close." Kara said then she wiped off the snot from her glasses.
"Guesses elephants aren't becoming your favorite anytime soon?" Barbara said.
"You can say that again." Kara said. The calf stuck its tongue out at Kara before she went back to her mother. Both Barbara and Kara chuckled.
"Look like your not their favorite either." the redhead said.
"Well, you can't please everyone." Kara said. Then the two began to look around the rest of the zoo. They passed an enclosure with a small badger-looking creature inside. It hissed at them as they looked at it.
"Tasmanian Devil." Barbara said, reading the sign next to the enclosure.
"Looks like they're just as friendly as the one in films." Kara said as the creature bared its teeth at them.
"Let find a more friendly animal to look at." Barbara said. Kara nodded and two walked away from the ill-tempered beast as it growled at them.
They passed several more animals until they can to the enclosure that had two tigers. The two stripped cats rubbed their heads together and chuffed two each other.
"They seem to like each other." Kara said.
Barbara noticed two signs that had the tiger's name on them. "Bruce and Julie." she read. "I'm guessing that they're more than just friends."
"Better give them some privacy then." Kara said. They left the two love-struck tigers.
As the clock showed five-thirty, Barbara and Kara left the zoo and got a taxi to take them back to the motel where Barbara was staying for the week. Once they arrived they got out and paid the driver.
"Thanks." he said before driving.
"Thanks for the great day." Barbara said to her friend.
"Anytime," Kara said.
"You want to come in for a drink?" Barbara asked.
"Sure." Kara said. The two walked into Barbara's room and talked whilst having a drink. In the background, the T.V showed the news reporting the train event from earlier that today.
"Thankfully no one was serially injured. Authorities have taken the two men responsible in for questioning. We have been told marks the second time that Supergirl and Batgirl have teamed up. Several months before they stop Livewire, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn. The latter two escaped a few months ago. Now to Tara with the weather." the reporter said.
"Did they have to mention the escape?" Barbara asked.
"Hey, at least you've been looking for them. That's more than most people have been doing." Kara said now with her wig off.
"But still that's Gotham's new not Metropolis'." the redhead said.
"Good point." Kara replied. "But you got to admit we did a great job stopping that train."
"You got that right." Barbara said. "Superpiorman won't be playing superhero anytime soon."
"Well, he needs more training." Kara said.
Barbara laughed and was soon joined by Kara.
When it got to nine o'clock, Kara said goodbye to Barbara and left to go back home. The two of them had a great day and she was looking forward to the rest of the week.
Haft an hour later, Kara made it back to her house.
"Hi Kara. How was your day out with Barbara?" Martha
asked her adopted daughter.
"It was fantastic Ma. We to the zoo." Kara said. She told her foster parents all about her day during dinner.
